It would entirely depend on the quality of the cable if it was a deal or not, if you think all audio cable is the same you are mistaken. If you think it cant cost a tenner for a 3.5mm cable you must not have any decent quality gear. You may be able to get similar looking cables for a quid but they will sound horrible. Not sure what the quality of these are like but it's doubtful that a pound shop version is going to sound anything other than terrible compared to something that details at ten times the price. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
Two quid fifty for a 6ft aux lead? That's -just about- reasonable. But I have bought a perfectly good 1-metre one from the poundshop before, so by rights it's only *really* worth £1.80.

Little wonder they weren't shifting at £10, there are a lot of mugs in the world but very few who are THAT thick.
surely no-one savvy enough to frequent this site could possibly see this and think 'deal'
cheaper on the bay.

would transfer speeds be faster connecting my phone through the type C port on the laptop or would the micro USB on the phone be the bottleneck?

This isn't going to magically increase the speed of the connection, no. In fact this is just a form factor change, it's still a USB 2.0 connection.

Would this be a suitable replacement for my damaged Fanny Wang headphones? The lead has been crushed by a chair and no longer works.
Amzaing deal for a premium quality cable.
Nice price if it is indeed a decent OFC cable (though according to audiophiles there's a HUGE difference between a 99.99% OFC and a 99.9999% OFC cable).
Cables in general are a slippery slope when it comes to your budget..not sure if the man on the street can hear the difference between this and http://www.futureshop.co.uk/nordost-blue-heaven-35mm-to-35mm-minijack-ikable-1m-p-9414.html#.V4PEFPkrK00

I bought a few and to honest they are worse then the pound shop ones one never even worked from new and other broke after a few days
these are located on what we call pound aisles, not a new thing we had them for ages and they very poor quality, we get most back
these are 'charging cables' not data cables. They don't allow sync, only charging like the generic poundland cables. My local Tesco has had these for some time.

I've never seen one in the Pound Shop that has 3 types of charger (old style iphone/ipad, lighting & Micro USB).
I guess a lot of people see the word Primark and vote cold :(
I speculate that as it is "retractable" then it is too much "effort" to pull it out or too much(or too little) pulling could mean cable is too weak or retract mechanism breaks or jams.

If anyone votes cold because it's too much effort to pull the cable out, or they think by it being retractable it could break then they need their heads testing.

By that theory every product should be voted cold as it "may" break at some point.... X)

Does anyone know where I can get the Optimate charger for a decent price? I just bough a bike that has the Optimate cable connected to the battery and hence just need the charger bit now.
Just to clarify the cable connected to your battery is not an Optimate cable, there is no such thing...you may have an Optimate branded cable of either an SAE or TM connector but that fly lead can be changed or converted to any battery charger that you wish to use.
Ah ok. Thanks. Do you know where I can get a suitable charger?

That's an awkward question to answer without knowing your bike battery and whether you intend using the charger for other uses such as a car as well. Also depends on what fly lead you have connected to your battery, you have not said which type and if you are willing to swap the leads connected to your battery for TM or used a converter to TM if you intended on using this extension lead.

Sorry, you really are going to have to be more forthcoming with details for an answer.

Only suitable for the older Optimates with the TM connection. This was phased out about 2 or 3 years ago. All new chargers now have the SAE connection.
I thought I made it clear in my heading it was for TM connections in my opening paragraph. Upon saying that if anyone using a TM connector wants to swap to an SAE connector there are adapters to do so and vice-versa, although it's not an 'upgrade' just a different connector with the same positive and negative terminals.
Yes, and I was just pointing out how old the charger would have to be. Many people aren't aware that the TM connectors aren't on the new chargers. A charger purchased within the last 2 years at least is likely to have the newer SAE connector.
Not necessarily...my Oxford Oximiser is new. I posted this deal for those that have TM connectors and made it quite clear also in my first post exactly what connector a TM is.
It is useful for anyone that has TM connectors at a stupidly low price. Hence why I posted it, it is not just for older Optimates, although there still are plenty of older Optimates for sale on the likes of Amazon etc with TM connectors I would think anyone interested in purchasing this would check what connector their charger has before purchase. I have however amended the heading to clarify although I thought I had given enough explanation...sorry if you feel otherwise and do not think it is a good deal.
I didn't say it wasn't a good deal.
You did not say or vote it as a good one either, just criticised that its for 'older' chargers by one brand.
I didn't criticise anything and I haven't voted either way. They're clearing out old stock that's why it's so cheap. I simply pointed out it was for older Optimates. I work in the trade and the amount of people that assume all Optimate products fit their chargers is unbelievable. I was trying to help people but you've obviously got it in your head that I'm slating the deal which is incorrect.

Well considering you came into the thread to criticise rather than vote then yes, it is useful for anyone that has a charger with a TM connector like myself, or for that matter anyone that wants to convert from SAE to TM....

As for them clearing out old stock, and you being in the trade, I am afraid you are wrong, because the item was out of stock a few weeks ago (as I was going to order in April) and back in again, do you work for RS Supplies to know they are clearing out old stock? Do you know that Accumate/Optimate have actually stopped manufacturing and supporting their chargers (some are still being sold with TM Connectors) with these cables?

I see you took umbrage a few years ago with people voting cold on your battery charger deal.....how about you actually think outside of the box and realise this is a bloody good deal for anyone that needs a TM connector extension lead, whether it be an older Optimate model or not. And as already said I am pretty sure the photos I provided as well as a clear description in the heading was enough, but I did also add that disclaimer about newer Optimates...but bear in mind this extension lead is not just for Optimates.....

Just because its branded Optimate does not mean that is all its compatible with as already stated. Tamiya connectors are used for many purposes from battery chargers to car connections to radio controlled cars etc.

So happens that as stated I have an Oxford Oximiser 900 their 3 metre OF705 cable with TM Connectors retails for £10, this Oximate TM73 2.5 metre usually retails for around the same price.

Holy, are they asking that much for them now? Remember looking for one ~5 years ago and they were going for $60+ on eBay.
Also, apparently RGB SCART is not quite as brilliant as component, but it gets pretty close

Any Gamecube ones? X)

As far as I'm aware, the PAL Gamecubes we get in the UK don't even support component signal (huge shame really). Also, the official component cables that Nintendo made cost extortionate amounts these days - you can only use these component cables on American 'cubes because of reasons, apparently.

The Wii + component cable combo is a great option, but if you absolutely must use the Gamecube (which is perfectly reasonable especially if you enjoy using the Gameboy Player, for example) I recommend getting a decent RGB SCART cable. I'm chuffed to bits with the one I purchased, a truly worthy upgrade if you like using the original Gamecube hardware.

Here's the one I purchased and recommend:

lol. Best thing to do if you want to play gamecube games on component is use the wii.

That's what I'm doing now. My Gamecube is only used for GBA games at the moment. 8)

My memory may be faulty, but I thought the Gamecube component cable didn't even work on PAL Gamecube consoles.

Agreed, it should be obvious to anyone who has ever looked in socket of their device, however there are some confusing sockets like this one of the left which looks superfically a bit like a usb c type except it has only one pin and is capable of supplying 2.5 amps or more at 20 volts
For extra bonus confusion, some USB C connectors are also capable of supplying several amps at 20 volts and are used for charging on a few newer laptops.

This deal needs heat for the hilarity.
How can people not know that USB type C cables are a standard in their own right?
They're not micro USB, they're not mini USB, they're not lightning cables, they're not Apple 30 pin cables, they're not type A, they're not type B, they're not parallel cables and they're not RS-232 Serial cables.
This is now a 'what they're not thread'.

That's the newer ThinkPad charging tip, and is almost the same size as a regular usb A type male
It's definitely nothing like usb c which is much smaller

OP btw is this usb 3.1 or usb 3.0 type c? The difference is 10Mbps vs 5

It has to do with not wasting people's time clicking on deals that are to all intents and purposes unobtainable. You will undoubtedly be familiar with the 'Tesco In-store Wild Goose Chase' meme on here? This falls into the same category. You didn't even bother to tell us where you bought yours.

What a pointless ill informed comment....
What makes you think I am ill informed?
Probably because your implying that Cat 6 will do a much better job in a Cat 5e situation.
Implying "much better"? Is that what your limited comprehension reads from my post?
Read it again. There's no "much better" in it. Networking has to be the most overrated 'skill' on the planet, it's glorified pipe routing. But if I have to do it I want to show that my cables are fully gigabit compliant via a standard rather than have to pull off some documented tests to show that, although they are cat5e, they can pass through gigabit.
If you really want to be a bargain hunting peasant, go make your own. Feeding 8 wires into a plug isn't the hardest, and it doesn't get any cheaper.

I don't need to be a bargain hunting peasant. I have all the cat 5e cable & patch boxes I can lay my hands on. This satisfy's all installation's I do.
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. The threshold is 90m for both, cat6 does run further at a gig. It's not the 'rating' it's the bandwidth as I stated before. Yes they both can run at a gig but cat6 is like the traffic on a five lane motorway as opposed to cat5e (a dual carriage way)
clthompson1979
Not really much point in having cat6 if you use cat5e patch leads (apart from future proofing) as it will run at cat5e spec. It's just the bandwidth that is different really 100mhz as opposed to 250mhz. To say it's easy to terminate yourself is misleading though. Cat5e can be thrown in due to high test margins, but cat6 is a lot more stringent and has more to it than you may think.

except that cat 6 supports gigabit on longer runs than cat5e does so every point. Also, can replace patch leads as needed. As for 100maze s 250, that's the rating of the cable,.sticking a cat5e patch won't change the speed the segment runs at, gigabit is gigabit whether over cable rated at 100, 250 or 500.

Apple Lightning compatble USB data and charge cable £1.00 @ poundland

May not be very new but have just noticed that PoundLand is selling Apple Lightning cables - for a quid. There is no obvious MFI certification on the pack but the one I bought works fine with my iPad

What speed does it charfe
On the contrary - by buying from a shop on the high street that won't be disappearing any time soon you can return to them with confidence if there is a problem.

There are plenty of good reputation online eBay sellers and I am the first to recognise that eBay has upped its game in recent years, but there are more risks on eBay - I bought a new item just a few days ago and it didn't have a CE mark and was supplied with a US to UK power adapter. That's illegal - new electrical items sold must be CE marked and be wired correctly for mains operation. I flagged this with eBay over a week ago and nothing has happened.

And my Poundland Lightning cable is still happily charging an iPad every night.

Dont do it, apple introduced this port because theyve sussed how to make a cable only they can make. These knock offs are awful.
That's such a throw away generalist comment. While you do need to be careful and I have bought much more expensive leads that didn't work, the Poundland one I bought does work. Better still if the store is local to you, if there is a problem you have someone to deal with instead of a fly-by-night online con shop.
And you'll raise a 'throw away generalist comment' with another throw away generalist comment of 'fly-by-night online con shop'. Good work :D

what rubbish it's a digital signal, it has two option work or not.
Well, not quite. Individual bits make it or they don't. I agree that people who claim to see a brighter picture via better quality HDMI are clearly delusional. I think my cable was just poor quality, enough that the signal was weak so one in billions of bits were corrupted which caused a dropped signal once every few mins. It did seem to be worse when I ran the cables close to the power cable to the TV, so maybe AC interference was enough to tip it over the edge?

I have had issues with similarly cheap cables in the past. Picture was normally OK, but occasionally I'd get a few seconds of black screen. I think it was failing the HDCP check as the problem only occurred when watching blu-rays or Sky, but not using my PC or Xbox. Swapping for a more expensive £10 cable (that was well reviewed on Amazon) made the problem go away. Swapping it back proved the cable was the issue, so it went in the bin.

Cheap cables are prone, joint issues, possible poor metal, bad quality plastic case design etc and those issues can cause problems for digital signals.

Anyone know what the energy cost difference is between the oil filled and the convector, and which one heats up quickest?
Looking for something for occasional use in the garage.
Thanks
There's a few threads comparing the two here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=2144401
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=2157237

If I had to choose, I'd go for the oil-filled radiator, because I feel they're safer. Some say they provide a steadier heat than the "blast" of a convector, but apparently both cost the same amount to run. The convector heaters heat up faster.

Re the Black 1.5kW Oil Radiator with 7 elements - "Also Known As GTIN UPC EAN: 5051259024762"
Not sure why CPC do this but on the other EAN link it's £26.54 (£31.848) http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-elec/cyn20-7black/1-5kw-floor-standing-oil-filled/dp/HG00919?ost=5051259024762&selectedCategoryId=&categoryName=All+Categories&categoryNameResp=All%2BCategories
They do it simply because overall it nets them more money. Those who aren't so concerned about the cost and won't hunt out the bargains will pay more; those who won't buy for full price but are tempted by the bargains will make them less money but more than if they lost a sale.
Cheers, I posted this as soon as I read the email around 2pm yesterday :) I do like making up lists :)

Would this be good for using as the charger cable?

USB 'A' (rectangle) at one end, USB 'B' (square) at the other end.

Not suitable for phones/tablets, unless you get a connector to convert the USB B end of the cable to Micro USB.

This cable is for, typically, using with printers, quite a few of which still come with a USB B connector.

Belkin make USB cables with rugged moulded connectors I find. They put up with a lot of abuse..

And amazingly they work apart from the worst postage time I ever have experienced quite like these cables
Mine have finally arrived
I bought these on 5th November and they still haven't arrived!
Got three of these from a deal a while ago, and while they're decent cables I'm not 100% confident about using them in my phone regularly - they seem to latch onto it more than I'd find comfortable.

Still pretty good cables though, surprisingly solid for the price I did pay for them.

wow... almost 6 quid for a cable... deal...
just go for an ebay cable. An adapter from microUSB to lightning costs a quid, and any size cable USB-micro USB cable costs as little or less.
Yes spend £500 in a phone then £1 in a cheap knock off fire hazard. Great logic.

a 0.5 amp cable is hardly a fire hazard
and the amperage is controlled very well from the charger
besides shielding, the cable has very little to do with it

but you keep thinking that you need to spend 10-20 on a cable that costs a few pence to make

Lightning cables are all rated 2.4A not 0.5A. Same cable has to work with a 12W iPad charger.

Voltage is regulated by the iPhone communicating via the chip in the cable with the charger. If either of the latter is not up to the job then you get inconsistent voltage applied and the dreaded "accessory not supported" message.

Worst case scenario: Phone overheats and combusts. Has happened but most likely the cable stops charging as the iPhone blocks it.
That is very nice!!

Is 5000 watt correct?
Well if it is you'll need a special power supply. 5000w works out at about 19A off the top of my head.
I don't know much about winches but I should imagine it will be 500w at a guess.

It is 500W - confirmed by picture on website but then again it is misleading as it shows it lifting an engine something you would 100% not want to do with it

Thanks got 2, good value for £3.99. I wouldn't lock my bike with one of theses alone but like you clearly state as a secondary lock used with a D-Lock they do a great job.
Some people seem to be posting links to YouTube videos, or making comments that are in no way related to the actual cable listed here, this one has armoured sections around the inner cable which hopefully should delay any attempt to cut it, and looking at the one in my hand at the moment, this does not seem like it could be cut with pliers. If anyone has managed to cut this actual cable with pliers, I would be very interested to know how, you can send me a personal message with details if you like.

I wouldn't say 78p each is a fair comparison, 2 of the cables are not a very practical length. more like £1.17 each as a guide?
I disagree.
10cm cables are useful for connecting memory sticks to my tablet.
The 30cm ones are good for connecting a battery pack to phones/tablets.
i'm in a minority to all those who disagree, maybe because i don't use a powerbank or have a lot of desk space around my pc to place any usb device close by. most of the time, and most people i know, the usb cables are hanging down from power sockets above the kitchen top or near the floor reaching above to a table.
but i live and learn.

funny...I download hundreds of gig's per month with no issues whatsoever.
Uploads are throttled if you upload large amounts during peak periods but Virgin apply no throttling or traffic shaping on the 50mb and up packages.

Downloads are nothing to do with upload speed. I get on average 10-12mb upload speeds at ALL times, which for gamers and anyone who streams content to the internet (not from the internet), is useless for the price we pay. I get faster upload speeds on my 4G EE iPhone 6. Just done a speedtest on my phone and got 56.78 Download and 23.65 Upload while using mobile data.
pothole
This may be free, but VM have planned a 6+% price increase in December.
You don't get nowt for free with VM
I had them for the last 14 years so I know of old what they are like..Incoming price increase inevitable!
Does it come with the free crap VM customer service call centres and people that don't have a clue when you get a problem..and the Throttling at peak periods which they do but won't admit too1

Easily fixed....just use your own router with the Virgin one set to modem mode. Yes more expense I know but at least you then have a fully functioning router you can configure how you like rather than the thing Virgin like to dish out

This wont help with automatic firmware updates and reboots, they will still get updated and reboot automatically even in modem mode.

No issues here, its actually faster now than ever before, I now mainly get sub 25ms pings to gaming servers in Europe. Also I get above the advertised download speed of 152mb/s.
My main gripe is they seem to roll out router upgrades about 01:00 in the morning without notice, so if your gaming at that time, you get kicked as they reboot your router to activate the new firmware. :D
