The biggest rip off holiday ever for families at school holidays, and they even have the cheek to charge extra for using a credit card.

Totally agree. Great price off peak mid-week, but the price hikes for holidays or weekends is shocking.

Really recommend this. We went to De Kempervennen in school Easter holidays. We're a large party of 10 and there are villas there that accommodate all of us. With an early bird discount we had four nights there & then 4 nights in Bruges with ferry fare for less than a mid week February half term break at a UK Center Parcs. Turns out Netherlands don't have a school break at Easter like we do, so no premium rates. Very similar in appearance and content to UK sites but De Kempervennen also has a petting farm and a snowdome for skiing. With our booking we could also visit another CP nearby just over into Belgium.
We used to do this when my children were younger - it works out much cheaper than booking using the UK web-site.
I've already booked this week to take my little lad .... tunnel was £129 last month.

looking forward to it!

Not sure why this is so cold. Good price for Center Parcs in the Easter holidays.
I went last May school holidays and for a 3 bed central log cabin in Sherwood Forest, Monday till Friday it was £359 but I wouldn't ever go back it's not great it's very overpriced and quite dated.

Personally I think that's a good price for a week!! We do centre parcs but always go out with school holidays as it's soooo expensive!!

Booked! thanks! €804 for 7 days from 26th august all in. Premium 3 bed cottage. Free location choice - actual cottage picked from the map. 3 free activities still to book!
This is much cheaper than i paid last year for 4 days!
Next time check the european sites as they are usually even cheaper (for example centerparcs.be is 762 euro) others may be even less .be .fr .de .nl
Sounds good, but I think I would rather pay the extra €40 to make the booking in english - my French etc is not good at all :)
First you sign up in the .com site, then you browse in the .be site, then at point of payment you log (at prompt) in using your .com details and hey presto its all in english, except the price...

Noted! Thanks :)

just checked credit card statement was wrong on price eurotunnel plus 4 night stay £600 not £800 as stated. pretty good for school holiday
g8spur
Week before the school holidays = £300
During school holidays = £1200
Bloody con men.
One way to look at it..... or, they make the money when they can, so that they can continue to operate; as charging just £300 on a limited supply of units on the few times they're full means that they don't go bust. And it also allows them to pay all the extra staff they bring in just for the peak periods, which is nice.

That's very nice of them
Carmarthenshire have changed there dates to align with England.
fresia
Unified dates! Haha
This is so they can also start to raise money through fines for parents who have no alternative but to take a holiday during the term time. Wales currently don't fine, but are also planning to introduce it from next year as far I understand.
The staggered dates allowed some parents the chance to save a bit of money (which is in short supply for working families) Shame they are planning this,

Don't blame the education system because CenterParcs is an expensive holiday

The taxpayer cost of absent pupils taking unauthorised holidays during term-time far exceeds the proposed fines imposed. So they're not 'raising money' in any shape or form - education fines arent speed cameras fines.

The warning system and penalties are being imposed because state-funded education simply had enough of large chunks of children missing from classes, affecting their progress, undermining school results and lowering the morale of teachers, who are left helping little Johnny catch-up on the curriculum after two weeks in the Algarve, whilst the other children who were in attendance lose out on that teachers time.

All holidays are luxury, non-essential purchases. Some can afford regular ones. Some can afford the occassional one. Some can afford lots of extravagant ones. Others take cheap ones. That's life - its the same with other purchases - cars, clothes, food. I have two children in state education and have the utmost respect for the teachers and governors involved, as I see genuine value at work for my taxes. Its not there to be abused, its there for my childrens futures.

Just got back - had a great break - call me 'tight' if you want - but spent less than 100 euros all week - took my own food - BBQ every night!!! - Lidl + Aldi just within 10 min of the park - so got fresh salad / bread and wine etc..
People even OK to take their own Cans of beer / pop / sandwiches etc.. in cooler box's inside the Dome.
Not sure if they allow this in UK CP's but could be wrong??

Agree about Woburn. Just had a different feel about it. Very hilly too. We went the 2nd week it was open and it was all lovely and new but once that appeals worn off, there's not much to go back for. Some may like it, but we prefer Elveden and Longleat. Would like to give a foreign one a go, thanks for deal. x
Hilly? This is a holiday based on activities and fun, a bit of exercise won't kill you.
Loved our stay at Woburn. Thanks for the post sounds like a good holiday.
We went to CP Erperheide over Easter. For the money it was fine, but it's definitely the smallest CP we've visited.

The pool area was also the weakest one we've visited. Not that many features and the changing area was very cramped. Nowhere near enough family changing rooms.

However, If you have children under 7, the Baluba indoor play area is excellent, and some of the evening entertainment was quite well done.

Overall, the place felt tired and worn out though. But for the money, compared to the elitist, extortionate UK CPs, not worth complaining too hard.

Last year, we did Lac D'Aillettes in France, two hours from Calais. That is superior to Erperheide.

Holland had NINE centerparcs.....

The robbing bar stewards should bring uk prices down first
The UK parcs are a separate company, bought by an investment fund or some such corporate company and just licence the name from the family run Europe company. AFAIK.

We love CP, try to go twice a year... Don't mind the price being higher, keeps out the undesirables and Butlins generally has a higher price hike percentage wise in school holidays (never been, never will) the Sub tropical swimming paradise is huge and free to use and if you pick the right activities at off peak times they're very reasonable.
Thanks for posting this Stacey, I love Center Parcs, but unfortunately cannot take advantage of these prices due to school holidays. For all those people saying it is a rip-off, almost all holiday companies raise their prices in school holiday times, it's not just CP. For us, CP is perfect because we can be at Whinfell in 70 mins from home, where my elderly mother (who doesn't travel well) can enjoy her only holiday of the year. To keep costs down, we don't eat out, we swim, walk, cycle, go to the playgrounds, take our own pond-dipping stuff, look for animals etc. and take advantage of what is included in the price, and maybe have one or two paid activities per holiday. If we all liked the same type of holidays the world would be a boring place. So keep up the good work Stacey, I think you do an incredible job helping people get a holiday.

Why Dave, and several other serial cold voters have it in for me I have absolutely no idea, and to be quite frank, I really do not care. I receive so many messages of thanks not only in the forums but by message each day that it is always worth while. No amount of badgering, pestering or cold votes will make me go away. There have been close to 50 hot votes on this deal and therefore, I know it is helping people irrespective of whether it hits that hot section or not.

is there really any need to call someone a 'silly cow' for losing their engagement and wedding ring?! honestly some people just don't know when to stay quiet when they're just so NOT funny
I'll wager 'Silly Cow' is extremely tame compared to what Hubby called her when he found out.
sarahpawsey21uk
Who stands and takes a picture like that of you engagement ring funny how you need a picture of you wearing said ring for insurance policy if you loose it
A lot of people take pictures of their engagement rings and things like that, especially because most people have got phones with cameras on these days so its very normal actually
Obviously some find it amusing that this lady lost her ring at Center Parcs.....her husband put a pic of it (which just so happened to have a pack of Kitkats in the frame) on Facebook with an explanation as to what happened and as people visit Center Parcs from all around UK and indeed the world, then his hope was that it might reach whoever took it....highly unlikely but hey, when you are desperate and youve explored all obvious avenues, you'll try anything!

Obviously the OP found it soooo amusing he/she had to put this post on here and call her a silly cow!

Just thought I'd ask - and try to keep on topic - how well do these burn? It's my understanding that these are compressed wood shavings, don't they fall apart whilst burning? I haven't had a proper log fire burning in our hearth in over 15 years now, I do miss the ambiance, but not the cleaning! Last holiday (without the kids) had a proper inglenook fireplace and all the logs you could burn - ah bliss! I'd love to holiday @ Centre Parcs - but I find it hard to justify the cost (I could get to DisneyLand Paris for a similar outlay!)
r40 - you seem to have it lucky - plenty of free wood! Do you use something like this to make your own paper logs? Thats on special atm - perhaps I should post it as a deal!
we get these for Center Parcs all the time. I pay around £1 for pack of 2 in Home Bargains (£5 for pack of 2 at Center Parcs).

It may be 99p a villa now but they'll have you for every penny in the holidays.
Elveden has 2 night break specials starting 19th October, remember accommodation other than the hotel has your own kitchen so you can cook your own food if you want to therefore the break is as cheap or as expensive as you want to make it. just come back from a week at Center Parcs and judging by the number of kids there I don't think many people worry about whether it's a school holiday or not :(

My missus and me never worried about taking our children out of school during term time, once a year.
We ALWAYS asked for premission to remove them in order that we could take a holiday. Other than this the children had a good attendance record, so we didnt feel guilty at all.

I think that the school only once complained.
I wrote in reminding them that quite a few children were removed from school before the Christmas holidays started and did not return until the second or even third week of term in January.
They then agreed to my request to remove our children for our holiday
Job done!

great deal but we're back at school on 4th Jan
Voted hot as this is an excellent deal for those with children in schools with a late return in Jan 2012 - unfortunately my local authority dates are the same as the rest of the UK.
We had always thought CP was overpriced but we took the plunge several years ago now and generally go for a break each year. We are probably not one of their biggest spenders as we generally take all our food and drink and self cater. Also we don't do all the extra expensive activities. We take our own bikes and my children are happy to cycle, walk and swim. Also it is a few hours up the road with very little hassle getting there. We always arrive on the first day at 10 am and leave on the last day late pm - to ensure that we get our money's worth!
My children all say CP is their favourite holiday destination - even over and above Florida! (Not at all cheap despite using airmiles etc - that's another post tho'........)

I can show you a deal for a family of 6 staying in a Golden Oak Cabin for as little as £226 for the dates you have given in various locations....its a log cabin with hot tub outside and wii inside for the kids. Yes its not Centre Parcs and doesnt have all the expensive activities that Centre Parcs does....but it fun in the forest....http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/fancy-a-winter-break-in-a-log-cabin/775995
That's a really good deal too but not really comparable with Center Parcs - different places but each available on excellent rates for that week.

I said it wasnt centre parcs...but your request was to find somewhere for 6 people in executive accommodation for less....and I did. :p

This morning I loaded up my car with free firewood from the beach. It should last me for a week or so. I hate to think how much it would cost me to buy a week's worth of Instant Lighting Firelogs. Cold I am afraid.

P.S. Their firelighters look a good deal though.
£1 in home bargains and great if you are not used to lighting fires from scratch. I cut them into 4 pieces and use them along with wood. Easily light a fire for 25p.
I was under the impression that everything at centerparcs is about 3-4 times the price it should be. Is this not the case?
Jeez, all that wood in a centre parcs location, surrounded by tree's
would've thought some twigs & a few logs would be easy to locate, or even for Centreparcs to sell logs by the bag?

"can't see the logs for the tree's" oO
Definitely HOT! FWIW, these logs come in various sizes, and the Center Parcs ones are the largest. I have no idea what size the Aldi ones are, but even if they are the smaller ones this is still a great price. These are typically available from garden centers and DIY stores, but rarely much under £3.

If folks don't know about these then they burn for AGES - i.e. 3 hours+ for the biggies. Sure not as cheap as a bulk delivery of logs, but EXCELLENT value for the convenience - say in chinineas or at CP. Haven't seen them as cheap since Home Bargains had them 3 years ago.

Defo HOT - and even hotter when you light them! :)

Hi there,

We went to a Forest Holiday Silver Birch cabin last year, we left after 2 nights - it was filthy, the toilets were totally disgusting, there was a filthy mop in the cupboard stinking the whole hall out, there was someones sock under the bed, blood on the sheets in the kids room. Hairs in the freezer and a toenail on the dining room chair, there is more but I'd best leave the moaning there!! When we told the Manager, he got a team in to clean it from top to bottom even after the massive clean (during which time we had to vacate our cabin for a whole day) it was still disgusting when we went back in. So we left.

I wouldn't recommend at any price. Sorry.

Just new here today, sorry if this post is 'inappropriate' in anyway, I just wanted to make people aware of the trouble I had - it was in Strathyre.

Clearly other people are recommending it and I am only one person with one bad experience - I probably shouldn't have said anything at all.

Apologies.

Hi

We just got back home from Strathyre and our cabin, a Golden Oak wasn't particularly clean either. Luckily, one of the cleaners happened to be in our cabin just after our arrival to put up a mirror that was on the floor and happened to have a cloth on her so was able to clean up the sticky sweet I had just stood on on the kitchen floor which must have been there for some time as it took her ages to get it all up, otherwise that would have been my job, and not a great start to a relaxing holiday! We did get some towels a few hours later as they had forgot to put some in. Two pillows were ripped with the stuffing coming out and the smell of the place wasn't too great. Luckily I had packed 2 scented candles, which I would recommend doing.

........... will write some more later when unpacked

Even worse if you are a teacher and never have a chance to take advantage of "cheaper" prices. Much cheaper outside of the UK if you can get there.

I swap cheap holidays for three months a year holiday!
Golaboots888;6759702
Whats wrong with raising the prices for peak season? No one MAKES people book it at those prices.

It's not the actual raising of the prices that we're complaining about, moreso the amount that they raise them by takes the michael. I understand the basic law of supply and demand means that school holidays are always going to be more expensive but not 360% FFS!

I've got no time for bad parents who hardly ever send their kids to school but you can't blame the ones that send them to school the whole year round then take them on holiday the last week of term while the prices are still cheap. If the government are serious about parents not taking their kids out of school for holidays then they should do something against there companies chasing extortionate prices.
lurrve CP!
Taksim_Red;6758687
Is that before the 300+% school holiday price increases or after?

Incidentally if you go to the one in Elveden forest (well it is Thetford Forest really) there's a Sainsburys just up the road toward Norwich, rather than the overpriced 'supermarket' on site.

If you head toward Brandon from the main entrace there are a couple of fantastic cycling tracks in the woods on your right.

Wow! Thanks jojo1978. I didn't know about the clubcard points as last time I looked they could not be used at CP. There's another cheap evening meal sorted...

Ive also seen on the Tesco Clubcard section that for £6.50 in Clubcard points adults can get 1 Longleat Safari Park Passport Entry Token so there is another days' outing sorted for FREE whilst we are there.

Boo Hoo to those of you who have dissed how expensive it is once you are there. Deals like spending your Clubcard points help proove otherwise.

I managed to book a new woodland lodge at whinfell for 4 bed 2 storey detached for £450 a few days ago just after this post was posted so thanks to voucher boy for the post. Have checked the website today and the price has now gone up to £550 so you do really have to get in early, luckily my children break up that week. The only thing is dont think I can wait a year to go so will be looking around to see if any other deals come up, stayed at Sherwood in January in one of the new woodland lodges and they are really lovely would recommend paying a bit extra as they are all still quite new.
we booked when the prices were lower ( thanks to someone posting this link :) ) as we in Bridgend have the earlier holidays

booked a 3 bed comfort plus @ Elveden for £309 ( is £659 for the week after!)

been to Longleat twice before, but this was much more expensive! lol
so going to try Elveden this time

will share the cost with 2 friends ,so even cheaper :)

Bluestone is near when I am from, and don't know what dates you are looking at ..... but very expensive / more so than CP's from what I have searched for ( school holidays / weekends)
sorry guys but it looks as if they have now put up there prices to reflect wales easter half term aswell as englands!.....................................

Still better priced than Sherwood - prefer longleat but bit hilly but got the road train and Elveden don't like the plane noise...

Just tried to book one, all gone now :-(
But it is £30 more !
at Longleat its not a hotel, it is a lodge!
The Elvedon executive 1 beds are hotel rooms with no cooking facilities..
They always have the lowest demand for these. You can't even cook yourself breakfast.
They are not really the usual Center Parcs experience - no sitting outside your apartment feeding the birds , squirrels and ducks.
Thought Id Shout It As Its Such A Great Deal Lol
