2012 Model, I wonder if the Li Ion battery will have deteriorated after 5 years?
Lithium batteries lose around 5% chargeable capacity per year even if not used and at ideal storage temperature. If it was 15 mins in 2012 it will be 11.5 mins now. Probably closer to 10.
And that's if it even worked 15 mins to start with which many people say is wildly optimistic.

Thanks for that info, assuming the stock they had was made in 2012 that would be interesting. Real possibility that they made them for a few years. When I worked for Philips they normally estimated how many items they would need for a certain period of time and then warehouse them. Once sales pattern was established they would make more batches upon demand.

I've got one sitting in front of me right now, and I've had it for about 3 months now. When we first got it, normal suction (which is more than powerful enough) lasted at least 20 minutes. 3 months later, I still get a good 20 minutes. You don't start off with 15 minutes suction, spreading that around the forum is nonsense and FUD.
Every single time there is a thread about Dyson handhelds people like you come out of the woodwork saying 'moh only 15/20 mins suction is useless, it's no good'. It's more than enough, not once have I ever run out of juice on a vacuum around the house, not once. If you do run out of battery, you're not using it the right way. It's obviously not designed for 1 hours vacuuming sessions, I think that's plainly obvious. It's the same mentality as calling a laptop useless because it can't last an 8-hour flight on battery, and saying your desktop is better.

The technical details of this particular vacuum does state 15 minutes so no none is "spreading nonsense" around the forum. The model that lasts 20 mins is the V6 range

Sorry, did you even read my post or just jump to conclusions about what you thought I was saying?
I made no comment at all on Dyson or whether the product was any use or not. I was simply stating a fact about rechargeable Lithium batteries, of which I know a considerable amount about seeing as how I have been actively working with them since before you even knew they existed. ( Unless you were in Lithium R&D back in the 90's in which case you might know more about them.). Next time, please don't tell me I said things I didn't and then try to have a go at me for saying them.

more overpriced, poorly manufactured crap from Dyson!!! cold from me....go with the vax or shark alternatives every time!!

I've had 3 vax one burned my carpet and the others broke within a year.
Fantastic Vacuum cleaner , suction is far far better than my previous dyson dc27.

Paid £184 for mine from Dyson Ebay Outlet when they had an offer on it back in November.
The first one I was sent smelt of wet dog , the second made a strange noise when it was powered off so eventually I was sent a brand spanking new one , which of course automatically gets a 5 year warranty ...... worked out really well in the end and really really pleased with ours , I must say the performance is fantastic on our carpets / rugs.
We do have a lot of laminate floor but we brush and mop this so hard floor performance doesn't make any difference to us anyway ;)

Does anyone know how many heads these come with? The standard amount or less?

If you scroll down on the link under item description there's a what's in the box description which shows what's included
The Absolute is better than the Animal, I took this from the dyson website

The Dyson V6 Absolute cordless vacuum comes equipped with two Dyson-engineered cleaner heads. Invented for hard floors, the hard floor cleaner head removes fine dust and debris on hard floors. The Direct-drive cleaner head provides 150% more power than the Dyson V6 Animal vacuum. Dyson V6 Absolute uses patented 2 Tier Radial™ cyclones, an efficient post motor filter and a sealed system to ensure that the air that leaves the machine is cleaner than the air you breathe. Extra Dyson-engineered tools for homes with pets.

Products are made cheap. We are in a throw away society

I disagree with all due respect.

Products are not being made cheap

But

Repairs cost is ridiculously high for end users which force them to buy another instead.

Had 3 Dysons - none of them needed repair. Handed them over to the kids, and still working.

This is quality and you get what you pay for
Great find - thanks!! Got the V6 Absolute - delivery tomorrow 8)
foxeymoxey
The Absolute model is available for £188.99 and the motor is far more powerful than the animal, also get a few more attachments. Mine came in the retail box and had a 2year guarantee rather than the 1 year advertised.

I'm pretty sure the motor power is the same in all the v6 models. I think some versions come with more powerful attachments, but not more powerful motors

Read the reviews - this sucks .... or, rather, it doesn't!!
Save your money, it's been replaced for a reason.
If u read the reviews of any good value Lightning deal u will find out the only good reviews they have are paid ones
How do lightning deals be paid for? Just curious, I thought a lot of them are sold by Amazon.
He is referring to the reviews for lightning deal products; review for items sold on Amazon are often paid for with free products or heavy discounts in exchange for the reviewers "unbiased" opinions (_;)
So who exactly "pays" or gives the free product? Amazon themselves? Or other sellers?
I believe it's mostly Amazon, but others do that too. Alternatively, there are people out there who make a living off reviewing new products.
Wow, I didn't think Amazon wouldve paid for reviews, abit low, on the other hand, I it but loads of stuff from Amazon, never got offered anything for free

Not any more anyway, only if you're Amazon Vine, which is kind of OK as you need to review tons of stuff (having paid full price before they let you into the program). The days of cheap phone cases and other stuff having biased reviews is over.

Back to the PAD1200 vacuum cleaner, I got one and returned it. Looked great but it was the most anemic thing ever, I took a video - couldn't even pick up a piece of fluff off a car mat. Not to blow my own trumpet but I have the highest-rated critical review on there and can tell you that having paid full-price for it, I wished I'd never bothered. I ended up replacing it with a much more expensive Dyson DC34 and didn't resent paying 5 times the price as it is infinitely better. I guess if you have lots of small loose bits in the car it's ok but for anything worse (e.g. sticky stuff with a bit of cling like fluff) don't even bother. My only advice to you is to buy it from Amazon direct only, knowing you can return it without expense when you see how poor it is.

To save you having to find the review, here is what I was trying to suck up - not exactly substantial is it!

Got it. Great deal. Had to ring up to tell them and they logged a case and asked me to call them for a 10% refund once dispatched. Done this via Quidco and received a further £15 off! Thank OP.
Cheapest price you can get it for currently. Heat added.
Hot for those who can afford it and appreciate such a revolution in the blowdry market.

Let's take a moment to appreciate how GOOD this dryer is and how much SENSE its functions make + it's on a discount relative to its RRP.

Check all the professional reviews about this and its unanimously a better hair dryer than everything else they've used; like iPhone of the smartphone world when it was first released in 2007, the dyson supersonic basically reinvented the blowdryer.

Functions to appreciate that NO OTHER blowdryer has today:
- Location of fan is in the handle - The simple placement of the fan in the handle makes it so much less strain to hold a blowdryer. Anyone who has used a blowdryer for more than a minute knows the feeling of the having the balance the blowdryer with more wrist strength the longer you blow.
- Magnetic attachments - Also seems like a no brainer... Most blowdryers just use a plastic rim and snap on which loses fitting overtime (some don't even fit well the first time and leaks air).
- No metal heat grill - If your hair touches the grill; you know your hair is instantly damaged... but its faster to dry the hair the closer you put it to the grill. Damaged hair sucks. Most of us dudes just don't understand this. Ever look in a mirror and notice that 1 weird looking hair that is out of place, extra long, sometimes frilly, and without thinking the solution is to pull it out? Now multiply that by a hundred for long hair when it gets damaged and pulling them is not a solution; you're stuck with hundreds of strands of annoying crappy hair thanks to a blowdryer.
- Dynamic temperature adjustment - Blowdryers don't do this. You set it to hi, lo, or cool and that's the constant temperature it blows without regards to your hair. Blowdryers have no concept of the temperature that is actually blowing on your hair. The dyson monitors the temperature outflow and adjusts dynamically if its too hot.

Yes, this is a very premium price for personal use, but this is also not paying for your everyday blowdryer. I personally don't own one, I just appreciate how big of a leap it has given to the blowdrying world and maybe some of these innvocations will trickle down to cheaper products in the future.

Just bought refurbished one from Dyson Ebay for £175.99. Should be like new. Only downside is two year warranty. If something should go wrong after two years I can fix it myself or call out a Dyson engineer for a flat fee of around £80. Don't forget that from 1 Sept 2017 the max power for vacuums is dropping from 1600 watts to 900 watts.

I have one and it's a waste of money, no resale value and the hose is really fiddly to use. would not recommend and went back to a 40 quid Samsung bag less which is much lighter and easier to use.

Resale value who buys a vacuum for resale value. You must make a packet from selling your £40 Samsung vacuum.

Got mine today, performed very well indeed on first use. The way the heads pivot and and angle was very nice too. The only time I had to knock it up to Max was when using a crevice tool on some well worn in dirt at the base of some table legs. Pretty quiet too, comparable to a hair dryer on max.

My only minor criticism is that it felt a little uncomfortable to hold after a while, maybe I'll get used to it, but it felt like I could end up with a blister at the base of my thumb if I used it for too long. Would benefit from a lock so you don't have to squeeze the trigger constantly. Also, part of the drum that collects the dirt was a pain to empty fully, had to poke the dirt to dislodge it.

It's a shame the dock can't accommodate all the tools as well, but that's not really much of an issue.

Its the same machine without the tools really as the animal but as I've said before phone dyson they will give you the tool kit for free over the phone 2 years guaranteed and for £199.

Absolute has the 50w motorised head as opposed to the standard 20w which the Animal has. Obviously this will affect battery life, so you've got to consider the options carefully. I went for the V6 Total Clean as an in-between which has the 30w head, again via dyson/eBay (could be 35, can't remember).

Wrong, from Dyson website all v6 have 20min normal and 6min on high suction so I would assume the powerful ones have bigger batteries, hence the price

Wrong

http://www.dyson.co.uk/vacuumcleaners/cordless/dyson-v6/dyson-v6-total-clean.aspx

Look at the features section. Up to 16 minutes with the motorised head attached. Some of us do read up before we buy you know.

I never said 20min was for motorised head, normal head...
And using motorised head will be 16min whether it's basic or absolute.
Did you just feel like saying I was wrong because I said your comment was???

No, just because you are lol. Without the motorised head fitted, they all run for 20 mins. The motorised head on the animal is only 20w, and you still get 20 mins when using it. With the total clean it's 35w and gives you 16 mins, and the absolute is 50w and gives you 14 mins. They don't have different batteries, as per your assumption earlier. I'm not being arsey bud, just trying to keep the info right for people to base their decisions on. You are right in that they are very similar machines, bar they just have differing tools/heads that come with them that in turn affect how long they can operate between charges.

My bad, looks like you're right. Cheers

Cheers bud, glad you're enjoying your absolute, nearly went for that model, but went for total in the end and am very happy with it. :D

Hi klw101,
I asked for the V6 Absolute, was £249.98 & they knock off £10 as an existent Dyson owner, and they gave away Dyson handheld toolkit worth £56.
Anyway I managed to get the Total Clean from the outlet for £176.79. It looked like a new, just the box not the original retail one, registered online for 2 years. Very happy with it.
Hello coconutoil,
Is it from their EBay outlet? Thanks

Total clean was from ebay dyson-outlet (its out of stock now).
But the absolute was direct from Dyson.co.uk

Thanks.

Hi klw101,
I asked for the V6 Absolute, was £249.98 & they knock off £10 as an existent Dyson owner, and they gave away Dyson handheld toolkit worth £56.
Anyway I managed to get the Total Clean from the outlet for £176.79. It looked like a new, just the box not the original retail one, registered online for 2 years. Very happy with it.

sorry I ordered by phone and just asked !!
Hello, how much did you get the v6 total for? And are you happy with the purchase? Thanks
£138 and it came with a free toolkit value £56 which is useful
we only have it about a week but it's much handier than getting a big dyson out as we have a dog and vacuum all the downstairs wooden floors daily.
for any may the dog lies on the motorised head is absolutely brilliant.
Miles better than any other cordless except possibly the dyson v8 !!
I would buy another tomorrow if I needed it.

Thanks a lot. I just called Dyson and was quoted £240 for v6 total clean :(

Excellent deal - ordered the cy22. They offered the discount immediately, didn't even check if I was an existing customer. Thanks for the heads up - great saving and extras.
The prices on their eBay site seem to change quite dramatically.
I posted a refurbed DC41 mk2 just over 2 weeks ago £159 delivered with a 2 year warranty, now its selling for £209.
I ordered one, the refurb is brand new in all but name, but you're only now saving £30 over a new one so maybe not worth the saving? But if you hang around for a few weeks they'll put on another offer.

Edited By: Infiltrator on Jan 09, 2017 14:55
I got offered the dc41 for £239.99 included one free attachment. I have owned 3+ dysons. i checked the website and the dc41 £239.99 was the price on the website after I put the phone down. That's great gd_meiser re guarantee - as long as the stick clicks you should be fine; if it's too battered you could send back under 30 day return and then get the Absolute for 188 (total cleans out stock at the moment).
Mine arrived, no items were in bags but all looked good as new, works great, registered B serial number (on separate 1 year guarantee form) and it came up as two years online (but no idea if it will be honoured in second year). Absolute is now on outlet for £188 which is also a great deal (but I went for Total Care for a better hard floor head).
Mine arrived today. The condition of the main unit is very used I would say, many viable scratches and chips. No attachments were sealed and the red stick also had a scratch.

I notice that when the stick is attached to the main motor there is a few millimeters gap, is this normal?

Upon testing the V6, it works very well and picked up loads of dust and dirt.

With regards to the warranty, I tried to register it online but it wouldn't accept it as it had previously been registered. So I only have a 1 year garantee :(

Edit: Just got the email confirming my guarantee ends in 04/01/2019, so 2 years, bit happier now :)

The animal has a larger head brush and uses an electric motor. It also comes with an extra head for sofas etc. We have it and it has been excellent. We bought it from the outlet. It's been really good.
What does the V6 use then? Petrol? Can't wait for their high revving V10 model.

They have just released a V8! don't think they will release a V10 due to EU emission targets...

;-)

Don't understand why people are voting this item cold. Just trying to understand if I have missed anything while purchasing V8 animal. Every review out there points that V8 is at least 15% more powerful than V6. Dyson redesigned some of the systems like emptying the vacuum etc. Do feel its a good price at 350 pounds. Is there any reason why this is being voted cold. Even other occasions when the price on V8 is lowered, it always was voted cold.

It's just people think it's too much money for a vac but like you say it's a great price for this model.

Had a play today with it and it is powerfull. Really easy to use and it worked great on our hard floors. It's the ease of use I've bought into just being able to grab it and clean something up quick and easy.

These are brilliant. Yes you can't do the whole house with them and you don't get the same power as a conventional vacuum, but they are so handy for little and often cleaning. House is much cleaner now we have one of these! (We got the V6 Absolute about 12 months ago)

thanks everyone for your comments, now thinking of getting a V8 model because the battery life states last for 40 minutes but the price is stopping me. Waiting for sales and a decent offer to come through.
Got mine for £189 (exchanged a faulty refurb for a new one) in the summer. Runtime is approx 15 mins, less if you use the max mode although I've never needed it. As you plug it back in after use I can't tell how long it takes to charge. I would say, not worth the full price, but if you can get it on offer like this and you don't need it to replace the work of a normal vac (which it won't) then go for it. Also, the dirt bin is small so fills quickly (partly due to how much dust it picks up tbh) and isn't as effortless to dispose of as the adverts suggest.
God knows, there's so many variants.
dr_joolz
Dyson resale value is terrible too, I bought a dc50 for 250 last year, and found it to be largely useless and impractical, wanted to flock it on ebay and Gumtree for less than half price and guess what no one wants it even tho it still has warranty till 2020 and have not been used much (very clean). Guess most people know it's a waste of money. So 250 for this I would be very careful… when there are alternatives that have the same design.

Probably because people want the hand helds rather than the uprights these days

Argos are selling the V6 flexi model for 189.99
There are 5 versions of Dyson V6: Absolute (pink), Clean (red), Fluffy (blue), Animal (purple) and Standard (White). I bought the V6 Absolute but I want to share my experience here to help you decide the right version for you.
The difference among the Dyson v6 versions:
Standard - has a 20w motorhead attachment, this is the weakest of the series and a crevice tool
Animal - same motorhead attachment as the standard. In addition it has a mini motorhead for pets
Fluffy - has all the above and one additional soft brush attachment specifically designed for bare / hardwood floors
Clean - has all the above but a more powerful 35w direct-drive cleaner head - which replaces the standard 20w motorhead.
Absolute - has the mini pet tool as above, a more powerful 50w direct-drive than the Cleaner, and oddly, a very plain / simple attachment with silicon wipes for hardwood floors instead of soft brush attachment. In addition it has a Hepa filter at the motor exhaust - this also makes it a little heavier. All this will make the battery work a lot harder than the lower end versions.

Thanks a lot, I remembered reading this b4 on another thread. I bought the v6 absolute in JL for £250, is this worth the extra £50 or should I get them the pet to save £50? It's for my parents to make life a not easier. They don't have pets, live in a 3 bed house, the flooring is a mix of tiles, solid wood and carpet. It will also be there main vacuum cleaner.
Thanks in advance for your help
As they have mixture of hard and carpet you'd be better off getting the total clean. It's only available from dyson or Curry's, the head for carpets is a lot better (slighty not as powerful as the one with the absolute) It's the hard floor attachment that really sets it apart. If you ring dyson direct you should be able to get it for £10 cheaper along with some free tools.

Thanks for the advice. I really prefer to buy from JL as I can get the extra accidental damage added on for only £15 - it's for my parents so I think this will make my life easier. But I'll look into it a bit more

I bought the absolute from John Lewis last week, but put it a side to see for better deals after xmas sales. But didn't know curry's made it for £160 on boxing day,, was that online or direct from shop?
It wasn't the absolute. It was the basic Dyson v6. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dyson-v6-cordless-vacuum-cleaner-169-tesco-direct-ao-very-currys-john-lewis-argos-2556720

Dyson is one of the UK's most famous manufacturing companies, specialising in bagless vacuum cleaners and dryers. If you need to find an efficient vacuum or you want to invest in a top of the range hair dryer, Dyson is the company to visit.

Bagless Vacuum Cleaners, Futuristic Hand Dryers and More

Dyson was founded in 1991 by the inventor James Dyson. In the 1980s, Dyson had encountered frustration when using conventional vacuum cleaners, finding that their bags became clogged up, compromising their suction power. In response, he came up with a new design that relied upon a centrifugal "Cyclone" to generate suction. Eventually, he attracted funding to put his ideas into practice, and within 10 years his DC01 design had captured around half of the UK vacuum cleaner market and cyclone-based designs were here to stay.

What Are Dyson Products Used For?

The core of Dyson's business remains its selection of vacuum cleaners, which are used on domestic settings and by professional cleaning companies. Their hand-held vacuum cleaners are also commonly used to reach hard-to-access corners of the home such as gaps between cupboards or underneath beds.

In addition to its famous cyclonic vacuum cleaners, Dyson also produces hair dryers that are becoming more and more popular with ordinary consumers, professional stylists and hotel chains due to their low noise levels and reliability.

Dyson AirBlade dryers have also become a common site in toilets across the UK due to the perception that they are more energy efficient and more hygienic than ordinary hand dryers.

The company also manufactures air treatment products like humidifiers, purifiers, fans and heaters, which are a good option for people who require steady temperatures and clean air for medical reasons.

dyson technologyDyson's Vacuum Cleaner Range

The range of products available from Dyson includes the following categories:

Cordless vacuum cleaners – Both the Dyson V6 and the Dyson V8 are cordless models of vacuum cleaner and represent a step forwards in terms of convenience and ease of use:

The V6 – Comes in four varieties, all of which are designed to be hand-held. The Absolute is the most powerful of the four, offering 150% more suction power, while the Total Clean offers 75% more power. All varieties can be fitted with direct-drive cleaner heads to deep clean carpets and hard floor cleaner heads to glide across smooth surfaces, and the attachable wand provides extra range. They can be emptied at the press of a button, contain 20 minutes of cleaning power at full charge and can be put into "Max mode" for 6 minutes of intense power if required.
The V8 – An updated version of the V6, offering twice as much suction as the V6 Absolute. Also includes handy wand and cleaner head attachments, and has been finely balanced to make it more comfortable to clean corners and ceilings.
Both the V6 and the V8 come in an "Animal" variety which has been specifically engineered to deal with pet hair. It features a special attachment and powerful motor to generate the extra suction needed to clean fur and hair from carpetsvacuum cleaner product range and smooth surfaces alike.

Robot vacuum cleaners – The Dyson 360 eye is one of the most advanced robot vacuum cleaners on the market. It is designed to be left alone to clean the floor without any input from the owner, calculating the most efficient cleaning path as it goes. It can also be controlled remotely using a smartphone app, allowing the owner to start cleaning before they get home from work. It will even head back to its docking station when it needs to charge.

Upright vacuums – The best-selling part of the Dyson vacuum range, their upright models include:

The Cinetic Big Ball – The most powerful upright available from Dyson, the Big Ball requires no filters and hardly ever loses suction power. It also filters air incredibly efficiently, expelling far less dust than any comparable model.
DC41Mk2 – A slightly less powerful version of the Cinetic Big Ball. As with its more powerful cousin, it uses a ball system to give it a wider range of motion, allowing the user to position it easily with the wrist alone.
DC40 – The least powerful of the Big Ball range, the DC40 is just as manoeuvrable, lightweight and capable of deep cleaning carpets and ceilings alike.
Small Ball models – Smaller upright vacuums with a smaller ball that can be lifted with ease. Retractable wands make it even smaller and more space efficient.
Cylinder vacuums – Instead of placing the cyclone and container on the spine of the vacuum, cylinder models keep everything in a unit close to the floor. Dyson's Cinetic Big Ball and DC39 Multi Floor cylinder models have the same advanced filters as their upright models, just with a different layout which might suit some users better.

Other Products from the Dyson Product Range

Along with upright, cordless and robot vacuum cleaners, Dyson also manufactures plenty of other handy products that are regularly featured on the HotUKDeals listings. These include:

Hair Dryers – The Dyson Supersonic is a revolutionary new hair dryer design. Radically departing from conventional designs, it consists of a handle and a ring-shaped nozzle that blows warm air onto the user's hair. Using a Dyson V9 motor, the Supersonic blows air six times as quickly as conventional dryers, is extremely quiet and one third as heavy.
Air Treatment – Includes a range of different household products to clean air and regulate temperature, including hot and cool purifiers, no-blade fans, heaters with jet focus control and humidifiers.
Lighting – Dyson offer the cross-shaped Csys table lamp, which allows the user to train 8 LEDs on their computer or documents, creating a 648 lux light source. Also features the C-Beam suspension lights.
Hand dryers – Includes Dyson's popular AirBlade technology, which creates a 430-mph jet of air and reduces energy costs by 80% compared to conventional hand dryers. AirBlades come in a variety of different sizes, with large models for restaurants and hotels, and smaller wall-mounted varieties that could be used in the home. There are also tap-mounted models that can be integrated into modern bathrooms, providing a hygienic alternative to towels.dyson keep cool this summer

How to Choose the Best Dyson for Your Needs

The vast majority of customers reading this buyers guide will be looking for the right Dyson vacuum cleaner, so how can you choose the ideal model for your needs? Dyson cleaners aren't the cheapest on the market, so picking the right variety is essential. Here's what you need to bear in mind when you make your decision.

The first thing to do is to establish whether you need to upgrade your existing vacuum cleaner. If you have an older Dyson or you aren't sure which model you are currently using, find the device's serial number. Now, give Dyson a call on 0800 9540154 or send them an e-mail [email protected], and they will let you know which version you have.

If you have a more recent model, there may not be much point in upgrading just yet, unless you want to change from cabled to cordless. If that's the case, read on.

You'll need to choose between cordless and cabled vacuum cleaners. Cordless models like the V6 and V8 are great for reaching awkward spots and dealing quickly with minor spills. If you just want a small vacuum for your kitchen or living room that packs away nice and compactly, a cordless model will be perfect.

dyson vacuum cleaner robotHowever, despite their impressive motors, cordless Dysons won't be suitable for large rooms, especially with thick carpets (and pets leaving their hair all over them). If you need to clean a large household space, go for a cabled model.

If you do go for a cabled model, should you choose a cylinder or an upright variety? The differences between the two can be substantial. For example, Dyson's cylinders are slightly quieter, are more suited to dealing with staircases and are lighter than upright models when fully loaded.

Upright Dysons tend to be much better adapted to moving across large flat floors, they are a bit easier to store away and also come with a slightly higher capacity. The Animal models are also better at picking up every last dog hair, but the differences aren't huge.

If you have a pet, choosing an Animal model makes sense. You won't get a noticeably different vacuum cleaner. However, you will receive a set of attachments that are perfectly suited to cleaning areas where pets are present. The Tangle-free Turbine on the Animal models really does make a difference in collecting hair from carpets, which could help if you, members of your family, or visitors suffer from allergies.

Other things to look at include the noise rating of your Dyson (around 80db is acceptable) and the weight (look for vacuum cleaners that weigh in under 10kg). Not all Dysons meet these criteria, so keep your eyes peeled.

Pros and Cons of Dyson Products

Although Dyson's vacuum cleaners are technologically radical and innovative, they aren't without their critics.

On the plus side, the cyclone technology that they use really does result in improved suction over longer periods of time. The Big Ball technology used in more recent varieties also makes them easier to position and carry than comparable rivals. New brush attachments are excellent at dealing with pet hair and carpet dust, and the air filters on Dysons clean more dust out of the air than other models.

All of these are big positives. However, it's also worth remembering the negatives. For one thing, Dysons aren't cheap. Many models cost more than £400 (unless you can find a discount deal).

Dysons are also generally noisier than machines from other manufacturers. Every generation of Dyson seems to get quieter, but if you are worried about disturbing infants or neighbours, they still aren't the best make to choose.

Finally, Dysons are often thought of as cumbersome and heavy. They may be easy to move around on the floor, but all the gadgetry inside their motors results in hefty machines that can be hard to lift.

Before you make a purchase, think about these things. Are you the kind of person who is sensitive to noise and doesn't want to disturb others? Do you have any back pain or other problems that make lifting heavy equipment difficult? Perhaps most important, is your bank account healthy enough to warrant the expense? If so, Dysons tend to be top of the range devices and will be the perfect vacuum cleaner to go for.

dyson hair dryerWhat About the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer?

Although vacuum cleaners like the V8 are extremely popular, Dyson's Supersonic hair dryer has also been taking the beauty world by a storm recently, and many people will be wondering whether to take the plunge. At more than £300, it's not cheap, but is it worth it?

Given that you can buy cheap hair dryers for £20-30, you would think not. However, reputable consumer organisations have given the Supersonic complimentary reviews.

The major strength of the Supersonic is its heat sensor technology combined with its very focused, powerful air flow. The heat sensors are completely unique among currently available dryers, and allow the product to modulate its temperature to prevent hair damage.

Tests suggest that the Supersonic does provide a very focused, quick and hassle-free experience, so from a purely technical perspective, it's a market-leading hair dryer. However, with such a high price tag, many people will need to look for big discounts to make it affordable.
