Exactly WAS £379 (5 Years ago)
This phone is the cousin of Blackberry
It was a great phone when it was released FIVE YEARS ago. However, if you get it now you'll have no end of problems. Great OS but since HP stopped developing and supporting it, you're truly on your own when things don't work as they should, like Apps trying to update and freezing the phone, apps not updating, OS trying to update and freezing the phone. I could go on. The only consolation, there is a great WebOS community out there, so plenty of people who will try their best to help you.

Good luck to anyone who buys this, you'll need it. Great tech project, not a pick up and go phone anymore. : (
still an okay phone

Good price for it although the lag is terrible when I played it on iPod Touch 5 I'm surprised Gaijin Games haven't updated it since November. It's a shame about the lag as I do like the Bit Trip Run games it's one of the few runner games that's actually good.

Nice price but beware the IAP model the smartphone/tablet version features!

So they added that after the reviews were done in an update ? (Just looked at a few and they all said there was no IAP) That is particularly slimy.

Reading all the comments it is not yet clear to me if this Philips CMD310 unit can work with an Iphone 5 with adapter ? Also can an external mic being used ?
Fitted mine yesterday and it works fine. I don't want mine on permanent live as worried about battery drain. I don't think that will stop the stations from being forgotten though or at least it didn't on CD head unit I removed which this replaced, that certainly wasn't permanent live connected.

The quality with the "Max on" setting is really good and the BT streaming works well. I tried a call and the quality of the sound and the mic is really good for the money.
its stuck.
will the cable swap fix the lack of saved stations and last volume setting? for next time.
Try the flat metal thing that was in the bag with the screw and the rubber cap. I couldn't remove mine either but realised I hadn't used that and it fits perfectly down the side where the retention clips are on the cage. You will need to remove the plastic bezel first if you have already fitted it.

It might be for something else that I missed but it did the trick. I expect there is a guide somewhere if it doesn't work for you. Hth

Installed mine today, Had to swap over the red and yellow wire to get a continuous live in my Octavia, but plug and play in OH's Picasso.

Superb for the money, very happy.

In the end OH said the stations didn't keep after leaving the car longer than an hour, so i have now swapped over the wires in her Picasso to.

Really? That will fix the saved stations being forgotten?

How do you remove this stereo? I loose fixed it then put on the rubber and screw, gave it a good shove and now it's stuck fast :( I felt resistance from all the wiring but push or pull it didn't budge, so just forced it in as best i could.

Most probably as its an apple deal lol, I'm not sure why as its a comparable price to an S4 or HTC one contract and it has decent minutes and data.
S4 and HTC1 deals on this tariff have little or no up front costs, have a cold vote for talking nonsense.
Wow people on here are Angry, Htc one is £31 a month on the site above 4 x 24 is. £96 on three mobile (with its auful coverage and incredibly rude customer service I just left a 2 year contract with them never again lol)A decent network like t-mobile/ee is £32.99 a month making it £6 more a month 6 x 24 is £144 you also have to take into account that come two years down the line I doubt there will be much resale value in a Htc one (I got about 40 quid for my Htc desire) where as I just sold my 4s for £150

I sold my year old HTC One within the last month for £312. I am only angered by your bedwetting response to your deal going cold and the utter nonsense you have spouted to justify the general Apple users view of "I am right, everyone else is a tramp".

Here is the same deal for a HTC One with £24.99 up front costs - http://www.mobilephonechecker.co.uk/external-links/HTC_One/T-Mobile/Buy_Mobiles/1989593

Here is the S4 on the same deal with no up front cost - http://www.mobilephonechecker.co.uk/external-links/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4/T-Mobile/Affordable_Mobiles/2673123

Oh and while you are chomping on your humble pie you can pontificate on the fact that every network gets ad press on here from someone, all down to personal experience. I have found Vodafone, Three and O2 all to be fine in recent years.

Does iPhone 5 specifically work on the cheaper tariffs?
I was under the impression that only 4GEE can bring out 4G capability of it.
For iPhone 5s and 5c, the options are much more: O2, Tesco, Three and Vodafone.
My EE 2 year contract contract expires next month so I looked on their site this morning and found a 30 Day Rolling Contract Sim - 1000 minutes cross-network talk, Unlimited Texts, and 3000Mb Data for £18 a month. A quick 5 minute phone call and it was set up. Cushty!

Have voted hot too and I am no Apple fan, 12 month deals just make sense but again always go cold on HUKD.

To be honest this site is no longer the benchmark of good deals. Lots of stuff gets jumped on and voted cold just because people don't the companies or have favorites. Deals should be voted on based on price not taste or wants. Seen some decent deals get slaughtered and some okay deals get a lot of heat.

Hot from me for a short term contract. Obviously you pay more for the convenience of 12 months.
If the TCB is guaranteed, this surely merits not going as cold as it appears? Seems that no matter what Apple deal appears, it gets voted cold on HUKD. I'll be the first, have some heat.

My wife has the iPhone 4 and upgraded to IOS 7 with no issues at all, so i assume this cant happen to everyone with an iPhone 4.

That said the iPhone 4S is only £30 extra, so if you afford that, it would be money well spent on a better spec phone.

DONT BUY!! It doesn't fit into iPhone 5 cold cold cold!!!
Cud do wi summit for free for a change av got nothing
Using this adapter with an old style iPhone cable it charges much slower, than using a lightning cable I used an app to test the output and the adapter was outputing around 150mAH while the lightning cable was outputting 500mAH
Yeh same prob here, fine for the first uses.
Bought about 5 of these and they work brilliantly for a few weeks then they just stop working out of the blue. I didn't even get slow charging or the accessory not recognised message. I opened one of them up and it looks like the connection between the lightning connector and the board is very lightly soldered so the connection will break very easily. I'd say get one for a quid but don't solely rely on it in case of an emergency.

Looks a good deal. Cheaper than the discounted £25 I'm currently paying without a TIVO box.

But it's £20 + £15.99.

We've just signed back up to Virgin, but not being installed until May.

Quidco had £200 cashback on offer 2 weeks ago, plus Virgin had £75 automatically off your bill on their website (doesn't spoil cashback as no codes were used.)

We opted for 200 TV channels, 30mb broadband & just a phone line. 30mb has already become 50mb too.

£35.49 for 6 months, £54.99 for 12 months thereafter. Minus cashback & discount makes that £597 approx.
£10 extra in total than quoted here for a lot more channels.

So I choose to vote cold, as if you wait for the right time, you can get a decent amount of wedge back. When they anno
The red hot sale has been on for ages, been ending soon, numerous times, it's irrelevant.
That's a good deal, although I'm not sure I'll qualify as an existing customer. To be honest I don't really watch the TV that much or really use the phoneline. Originally I got the phoneline because the BB was cheaper with it and the TV package was a freebie, but my bill still ended up being around £33pm. When they annouced last year that you no longer need a phoneline to get a cheap BB price I called them up to cancel my phoneline. I was offered to keep my package for £25pm for 12 months which I took as it was only about £3pm more for just the BB. If I can get a better deal, I'm all ears.

People are always posting holiday deals that I am not able to take due to prior commitments. I have even seen a few ps3 game deals allowed even though I have a 360!! How is that of any use?! I just keep voting them cold and hope the mods finally sort it out...

The deal might suite some one else. You should not vote cold just because it does not suit. You should only consider value and whether if the deal is good when judging.

OK, so it wasn't that funny, but it was surely obvious I was parodying the first post? oO

We just swap between Sky & Virgin every time a contract ends, sometimes sooner if a price rise will trigger an exit.

Last time we left Virgin we still had 11 months left, exited without penalty.
Went to Sky & got £210 cashback, £100 M&S voucher;
put phone with BT & got £80 cashback plus £25 Sainsbury voucher.

Nearly a year later & 'hello Virgin' again. :D

they have it on orange also for £2.99,again you have to pay for a top up though, and it'll be one of those card packs that aren't an actual voucher
This also has to be purchased with £10 of airtime so your choice might depend on whether you are already on TMobile or Virgin, as that way you could add the credit to your usual phone and just have this one unlocked cheaply to take another sim.
If you are going to/already have tmobile payg anyway it's worth a punt.

Just bear in mind it's locked to tmobile.

where and how much for a trusted unlock code for this phone?

This is where you need to be careful...sometimes these sort of little phones cost more to unlock than the actual value.
Its always better to buy them unlocked from the likes of CPW or Phone4u.
Avoid buying from network providers directly.
Unlock codes could cost over 10 quid and takes up to 3 wks to be processed .

Thanks for that, just as i suspected then.

You haven't read the entire thread or understood the value of the phone, tell me where you can get a gig of data and unlimited minutes/texts for £7.41 p/m because that is the cost of the contract minus the cost of the phone?

This phone has actually improved all the faults that was considered on the Z1. Z1 is still good though

I would like to see one before I order - its the new subpixel arrangement that will be interesting. If Sony have sorted the screen issue then I think they will really start to eat into Samsung, because the phones are so much better looking than the Galaxy S series.
My thoughts exactly. I was hoping for a re design for the S5 but as usual Samsung stuck to their usual plastic pebble rubbish. Personally s2 was the best design in the galaxy range

How Apple Changed the Mobile Market with the iPhone

In 2007, having already revolutionized the computer and music player industries, Apple and Steve Jobs introduced the product that would come revolutionize the mobile phone industry. Initially met with contempt by competitors such as Blackberry, the original iPhone had sold 6 million units by the time it was discontinued in 2008.

iPhone: Premium Mobile Device

The original iPhone design combined the functionality of a touch screen iPod, a mobile phone and a non-WAP based mobile phone browser. These are all common place elements in today's market, so it may be hard to imagine how revolutionary the combination of these elements was for the time. Apple followed up with the iPhone 3G a year later, which brought forth high-speed connectivity and an app store that would become the standard format for almost all future app stores. The iPhone 3GS disappointed most users as it included little more than minor upgrades in performance and storage to the already existent features.

The next major upgrade would come in the shape of the iPhone 4, with a flat design, a high pixel screen and an integrated antennae upping the smartphone game stakes ahead of competitors that were slowing catching up with the next generation of mobile phone. By the time the iPhone 4S hit the market, Apple's marketing had done what it needed to make sure the public knew that the 'S' was now a standard marker for 'minor upgrade'. Thus, expectations were limited, as was disappointment in the limited number of changes on offer.

The first offering of the seventh generation saw little innovation beyond a severely slimmed-down design. The plastic-backed 5C arrived a little later as an attempt at a budget version of the iPhone 5. It was an attempt to compete with the low-cost android phones that were now common on the market at that time. Once again, the 'S' version of the seventh generation focused on upgrading the already existing features.

The iPhone 6/6 Plus and 6S/6S Plus dramatically revamped the screen size and resolution and incorporated the new iOS 8. These built on the previous generation but also saw the introduction 3D touch technology, which monitors how strongly you are pressing on the screen. This opens some interesting avenues, particularly for mobile gaming. The latest versions to date are the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus which feature an all-new 12MP camera and is resistant against dust and splash water.

iPhone vs. Android: The Big Question

Is iPhone better than Android and, if so, is the difference big enough to justify the extra cost? We're going to look at a few key categories to help breakdown difference between the two.

The Apps

At this stage, there really aren't many types of apps on iPhone that can't be found in a similar form on an Android device. In addition, as Google offers more freedom and less restriction when it comes to app development for its platform, there is more to be had when it comes to Android. Yet it can be argued that this creates its own issue for Android. A great deal of Android apps are niche and appeal to only the most hard-core residents of Geek-land. In contrast, iPhone apps are designed to be easily understood by everyone and straightforward to use. Plus, developers of top apps still tend to publish their apps on iOS first.

The Performance

Viewed through a purely functional lens, there is not much difference between the performance and speed of the top Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge in comparison to the iPhone 7/7Plus. That said, you are still likely to experience regular jerks and hiccups in Android device performance. It may not sound like much, but when you are using an iPhone, you do notice the silky smooth fluidity. But this is, as often in life, a matter of personal taste.

Updates to the Operting System

A regular complaint for Android, but one that still makes a big difference when it comes to choosing. When a new update to iOS comes out, you will very likely have access to it on your iPhone immediately. However, with Android, it may be years before you'll see your device updated. If you are not salivating over the thought of minor and major tweaks to your current OS, this may not be too big a factor. However, if something big does come along, you may be left out of the conversation about it in the office canteen.

The Most Common Deal-breaker: iOS

iPhone users commonly quote the operating system of the handset as the main reason why they don't switch to Android. While there are few stand out features available on iOS that don't have something comparable on Android, the difference here is in usability and smooth interface, which has always been a hallmark of Apple design. Again, if you are just looking for something that works, Android will get you there. The difference is one that seems to underwrite most of the differences mentioned above; that is that the iPhone usually manages to get you there more easily, with less confusion and minimal frustration. However, it is not all smooth sailing. Examples of drawbacks for iOS include an overdependence on the use of iTunes for music purposes and the absence of a default on-board file manager.

Fast Charging

Currently, iPhones doesn´t offer a quick charge function which a lot of Android devices feature. This means you can charge your phone for the day in a really short amount of time.

Which iPhone is Right for You?

Which iPhone you should buy will depend on what you are after and what kind of smartphone user you are. The most recent generations of the iPhone are similar in many ways but each version is designed to cater to a particular user group. For instance, the iPhone 5S is perfect for those who want something with the basic iPhone features and look, but at a lower price than the larger models. The iPhone 6 is ideal for those who want something that looks like the real deal but cuts down on thickness and price by stripping away some features. The 6S boasts every top of the line feature the iPhone can deliver, but with a 4.7-inch display rather than a 5.5-inch, those who want a phone for viewing videos and serious browsing may want to look at the iPhone 6 Plus instead. The latter is iPhone's first step into the so called “phablet“ market. The iPhone 7 brings in excellent performance and longest battery life ever in an iPhone. It is furthermore resistant against splash water and dust and features a

Siri - The Voice of Apple

Many people were blown away by Siri, the voice-controlled assistant that was unveiled in 2011. While not every version contains the software, if you are looking at older generations as a possible purchase, bear in mind that the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S all contain Siri.

Pros and Cons of the iPhone

There are pros and cons to buying an iPhone that you should be aware of before considering any version of the device. Here are a few of the most important.

Locked or Unlocked Phone

Due to their significant cost, carriers that offer iPhones as part of a contract usually lock them to their network alone. You can usually get them unlocked by contacting your carrier but you will likely have to fulfil a particular criteria before they will do so. iPhones you have bought directly from Apple will usually be unlocked however it is always worthwhile checking this with the vendor in question before hand.

Problems with Batteries

There have been several high profile issues with batteries throughout the years when it comes to iPhones. You can bring it to a store to get it replaced, but in most cases it will have to be sent to the repair centre. If you are still under warranty, or the AppleCare extended warranty, it is free, but if you are outside the warranty it will cost you. If you are using an older iteration of the iPhone it may be more worthwhile putting your hard-earned cash towards a newer model.

Do iPhones Take SD-cards?

Many have criticized the absence of an SD card slot on almost all of the iPhones. However, while you can't use a card directly, you can purchase an adapter that will allow you to use a microSD card for memory expansion

Security

One of the major selling points for Mac has always been the lack of viruses designed to attack their systems. To date there are no documented cases of viruses for iOS. As time wears on this may change. However, it is certainly the case that iPhones, like other devices, can be hacked remotely. One way to lower your risk is the familiarize yourself with the kinds of hacking software that is circulating at the moment.

Functionality

Bluetooth: Though there has been debate in some forums on this point due to issues with the transfer of certain files, it is undoubtedly the case that iPhones support Bluetooth, though you do have to manually activate it in your settings.

NFC (Near Field Communication): As yet, no iPhone supports NFC functionality. Apple have instead opted for their own version called 'passbook', which relies on geolocation technology rather than the NFC chip.

Choosing a storage capacity: Choosing the right storage option will, naturally, depend on how you use your iPhone. If all you want to do is text, call and stream, 16GB version may be more than enough. However, weightier usage such as storing video, photos and hosting a large amount of apps may mean a large capacity storage is the best way to go. There are a host of device that fall in the middle of the range as well. You'll need to decide where on the spectrum you tend to fall.

Which iPhone Do I have?

Deciding which model to upgrade to means knowing which model you currently have. If you have had it for multiple years, you may have forgotten which one you have. Identifying your iPhone model is pretty straightforward. If you look on the back of your iPhone, you'll set text in the format of "Model AXXXX". Match the model number to the number located on a checker page.

Accessories to Improve the iPhone Even More

There are a massive range of accessories available for the iPhone. Which ones you will need depends on how you want to use it, but you can seriously expand the usefulness of your device by taking advantage of what is out there. For all you fitness freaks out there, the running band is a must-have. A great set of speakers will bring out the most from the music functionality. Waterproof casing is a no-brainer for obvious reasons. These are all old standards, however, there are constantly new and exciting extras being released for the device, so keep an eye out.

Cheap iPhone Deals

You can purchase iPhones from Apple directly at www.apple.com and their new iPhone upgrade program allows you to pay over 24 months, similar to carriers purchasing programs. Other major online retailers such as Mobiles.co.uk, Mobilephonesdirect.co.uk, EE or Amazon often offer cheap iPhones for sale as well. Mobile phone service carriers are still probably the cheapest way to get your hands on an iPhone, though it will come with contract stipulations.

Upgrading effectively can often be a question of timing. If you got your phone from a carrier, they will likely have a set time you need to wait before being entitled to an upgrade, so check with them to find out what this timeline is. There are also times of the year like the Black Friday, Christmas or the January Sales when electronic products are cheaper. Also, it is good to keep abreast of upcoming versions, as you might find your iPhone is obsolete by the time you get round to selling it. For instance, the rumour mill has already begun on the iPhone 8 release later this year, so if you are packing an iPhone 5 or 6, now may be a good time to start thinking about offloading it.
