The amazon fire tablet is. A windows and an android tablet. I hate android. I like windows. Does it work like a windows tablet? What does the android part mean then? Please help, as I'm concerned and thinking of buying it, if it's more like a windows tablet and the android doesn't interfere with that fact. Thank you
It has a 7 hour battery but takes 6 hours to charge? LOL
Did you get your fire tab? I've been having a few issues. Mayday is advertised as being in these tablets but I can't find it anywhere. Also when trying to "buy" any of the free Amazon Underground apps I get an error 500 eg. try with Threes or Goat Simulator. Am I alone in these problems or are they widespread?? Feels like fire os5 isn't quite ready for launch.
Gift card deal is also worth doing ;)
What is a deal is doing the buy £40 gift card get £10 free promotion making one of these £40. I was going to post it also but felt it might get cold. Just sent the gift card to myself and got the promo credit. Awesome price.

Lots of permissions, I would stay away
Nothing unusual. All you're agreeing to is an ad from Amazon when the game opens
huusshh
Since this app was installed on phone, I can now purchase via the underground website on the PC browser... now I deleted the ap from phone, why?
I don't mind the permission, nor do I mind the budding salesman from underground dept coming to do my dirty laundry - I buy both side of the argument.
However, when I read the comment about any virus attack, that got to me - if I was a one of those criminal mastermind my number one priority will be a virus that targets this particular app!!
Anyway. I'm quite happy to purchase via the website, and let the app sit tight there until I need them, my MOTO G is running out of space - but it's good to keep them safe for rainy days ;-)

You can purchase apps via the Amazon website, however, if you want to install them on your phone then you will have to re-install the Amazon Underground app.

I haven't seen any comments regarding viruses, so I can't comment on that... can you please provide more detail?

I think the analogy of permission in apps is like this, before you have door to door salesman to sell you things, salesman only knows you from what he sees outside your house. Then the salesman gets permission to listen in your phone, then your security camera, your conversation and mail, access to your wallet, sockets in your wall, use of your toilet, do dirty laundry cleaning, do time and motion recording of when you open your fridge, when you put your kettle on, when youfinger or tip toe around your house or tablet...some then says, well I have nothing to hide, salesman is from a reputable company, has a thousand word terms and conditions that I have never be bothered with, so may as well have these freebies. By the way , permission to add an ankle tracking device to each one in in your house called advertising ID, but of course you can change your ankle tracker any time. Lastly, I introduce my buddy salesman to you, he is from our underground department, a special branch at Guantango HQ, special law on consumer protection there.
I assume that you don't actually use a smart phone then, because Google/Amazon/Apple/etc (depending on phone) have all the permissions they want baked into the OS.
Also, I don't think Jeff Bezos wants to know about when I use my kettle or go to the toilet (or finger around the house???), or even to eves drop on my calls, but I will welcome any salesman that wants permission to "do dirty laundry cleaning".
I think you need to reel in the paranoia... I don't think that the Underground app will be cataloguing your life.

Just Saw the banner, was going to post, surprised this isn't hotter.

Odd deal really, the 64gb is good value though, once you are aware of the restrictions of these tablets.

I got a hdx a few months ago when cheap in Argos, brought it back after a few days. No Google play store, and the update meant it could not be rooted, etc. also found Iplayer app on it was very poor compared to my other devices (45 mins to download a half hour show...)
I bought a refurb previous generation Fire HD 32gb about a year ago for £89 to replace the £700 iPAD that Apple ruined with an OS upgrade that kept causing memeory problems. I have been very happy with the Kindle for browsing, SONOS controller, playing a few games, and reading books. This looks like a good deal. Heat added.
I'm not keen on these but got the wife a 64Gb HDX recently and she loves it. Have some heat.
not all that is amazon is good. new kindles so overpriced and their phone fire so not user friendly.
That's a lot for a tablet, considering it is so heavily restricted and limited to the Amazon Eco-System...
You can get many good Android tablets for under £100, might not have the storage but can easily add SD cards.

Data is a killer. I know you can use wifi hotspots but 500mb is a joke for this amount
Yeah 500mb seems too low for a phone that is designed to buy items from Amazon which could well include ebooks, films, music etc.

Still can't believe Amazon are trying to flog these. Do yourself a favour and get a £99 Google Nexus 7 from Sainsburys - far better and less bloatware.

Intrigued as to why you can't believe Amazon are trying to sell these?

2 nieces have these and at the time we were going to get ours one for Christmas, until we tried it they are so slow compared with ipads (granted cheaper but...). in the end the nieces ones never get used, ours used every day and the nieces are getting ipads for Christmas. Cant comment against other tablets but just glad we didn't get them.

Is it definitely this version? They were only released on 2 October, just over a month ago. If they are having so many problems with them why not take them back?

Not this version but just general advice on them, that said as someone said they have bloatway but at the time not sure it's the same today ever time you went say on the internet you had to go back to amazons server even just to search.

If you have an iPhone, iPod touch also worth taking into account that if you have apps you like you need to rebuy them on Amazon, this and the speed was the main reason we went for the iPad and to be honest I wouldn't go back.

Wasn't ours to send back :(

Still can't believe Amazon are trying to flog these. Do yourself a favour and get a £99 Google Nexus 7 from Sainsburys - far better and less bloatware.

Intrigued as to why you can't believe Amazon are trying to sell these?

2 nieces have these and at the time we were going to get ours one for Christmas, until we tried it they are so slow compared with ipads (granted cheaper but...). in the end the nieces ones never get used, ours used every day and the nieces are getting ipads for Christmas. Cant comment against other tablets but just glad we didn't get them.

Cheap it is, but also nearly obsolete. If you can get the Tesco hudl for clubcard points, I think that would be a much better deal.
Can't access to the deal..

They should do something about opening a store in london :(

No they shouldn't, who needs an actual shop nowadays?
Shop online
Enough of the Chav northern shops already down here.

Are you sure you don't need anymore? You sound awfully chavy.

Pretty sure someone posted this in the last couple of days but can't seem to find it on search.
So does that mean you voted cold here?

No, not voted eithet way. Tho if i was going to vote it would be cold, not due to it being a repost but due to it being rrp. This site is a deals site not rrp site.
I'm just trying to help...

You've been on here long enough, however I'll 'give' you a FYI:

Most RRP 'deals' on here are voted cold

Can anyone who has bought this deal whether this is a 1st gen or 2nd generation?

I think if you can confirm whether the back/side of the unit has smooth rounded edges, or is anglar. You can see what I mean if you do a google images search for kindke fire hd back.

Much appreciated

1st gen. October 2012
I got last one in Sudbury. Had to ask behind the CS desk for a stock check. Worth asking if you are going in anyway
Got a £10 off £75 or over on electricals voucher, received when buying food, the bare minimum...so not £20 minimum shop

Why would a refurb Kindle Fire HD be any different to a normal Kindle Fire HD? oO

It's not, but there were recent offers of a "previousmodelrefurb" kindle for £65 quid which this case is for :) I have no idea if the same case fits the newer model Kindle

Thanks OP - I get mixed up with what generation gadgets are (I have an iPad and a kindle, and would need to look up the model!) so this really helped me as my brother got the recent refurb deal too, so I know this will be good for him :)
