I bought two of the kindle HD fire 7 insore at Tesco for £34 on Wednesday, bought the last two :)
Lucky wanted one for mums birthday but was £80+ Doubt I'd find a deal as good as yours before Xmas. ><
May grab the newer (lower spec) model for £50 of Amazon
I went in to buy the £49 one, couldn't believe the price when the lady scanned them. Should be national deal also because my friend picked up one from another store half hour away, same price :)
pre order the new one from Amazon, only 49.00

I'm not 100% sure but for £50 it's a kindle and decent spec for a tablet unless you want to use it for multi function purposes
Fire HD7 from 2013 (3rd gen) doesn't have any cameras. I've got one. It's good fast tablet. But I wouldn't get on unless you're on Amazon Prime.
The new Fire is 7" with two cameras and sd card slot and up for sale at £49 but the Kindle fireHD from 2012 has only a dodgy selfie camera and no sd Card slot.

Why can't I find a case for my tablet when I search for Amazon Fire HD 32GB 6th Generation?
Your response is to push the Fire 8 5th Generation at me!
Great value if its what your looking for. but when you consider that you can return it up 31st of January 2016 and get you money back you money back What other store would give you that? and you have 3 months to pay for it I have bought many items and returned one or two one being a very expensive camera only to find that it did not live up to MY expectation again once with a Carpet cleaner which was collected free of charge . its a shame that there was not more shops that could offer the same service as QVC

good deal.. seems cheaper than anywhere else and if you don't like it send it back.. what's not to like..fail to see why its cold. I've shopped at qvc for years and any probs with anything they take it back - no questions asked
don't know what the issue is with it being from QVC. Don't buy much from them, but why would you pay more to get less from Amazon.

The amazon fire tablet is. A windows and an android tablet. I hate android. I like windows. Does it work like a windows tablet? What does the android part mean then? Please help, as I'm concerned and thinking of buying it, if it's more like a windows tablet and the android doesn't interfere with that fact. Thank you
It has a 7 hour battery but takes 6 hours to charge? LOL
Did you get your fire tab? I've been having a few issues. Mayday is advertised as being in these tablets but I can't find it anywhere. Also when trying to "buy" any of the free Amazon Underground apps I get an error 500 eg. try with Threes or Goat Simulator. Am I alone in these problems or are they widespread?? Feels like fire os5 isn't quite ready for launch.
Gift card deal is also worth doing ;)
What is a deal is doing the buy £40 gift card get £10 free promotion making one of these £40. I was going to post it also but felt it might get cold. Just sent the gift card to myself and got the promo credit. Awesome price.

tutu helper app is similar to amazon underground app which is really useful to download thousands of applications for free. You can install tutu helper from http://tutuhelperappios.com. I hope this is useful

Lots of permissions, I would stay away
Nothing unusual. All you're agreeing to is an ad from Amazon when the game opens
huusshh
Since this app was installed on phone, I can now purchase via the underground website on the PC browser... now I deleted the ap from phone, why?
I don't mind the permission, nor do I mind the budding salesman from underground dept coming to do my dirty laundry - I buy both side of the argument.
However, when I read the comment about any virus attack, that got to me - if I was a one of those criminal mastermind my number one priority will be a virus that targets this particular app!!
Anyway. I'm quite happy to purchase via the website, and let the app sit tight there until I need them, my MOTO G is running out of space - but it's good to keep them safe for rainy days ;-)

You can purchase apps via the Amazon website, however, if you want to install them on your phone then you will have to re-install the Amazon Underground app.

I haven't seen any comments regarding viruses, so I can't comment on that... can you please provide more detail?

I think the analogy of permission in apps is like this, before you have door to door salesman to sell you things, salesman only knows you from what he sees outside your house. Then the salesman gets permission to listen in your phone, then your security camera, your conversation and mail, access to your wallet, sockets in your wall, use of your toilet, do dirty laundry cleaning, do time and motion recording of when you open your fridge, when you put your kettle on, when youfinger or tip toe around your house or tablet...some then says, well I have nothing to hide, salesman is from a reputable company, has a thousand word terms and conditions that I have never be bothered with, so may as well have these freebies. By the way , permission to add an ankle tracking device to each one in in your house called advertising ID, but of course you can change your ankle tracker any time. Lastly, I introduce my buddy salesman to you, he is from our underground department, a special branch at Guantango HQ, special law on consumer protection there.
I assume that you don't actually use a smart phone then, because Google/Amazon/Apple/etc (depending on phone) have all the permissions they want baked into the OS.
Also, I don't think Jeff Bezos wants to know about when I use my kettle or go to the toilet (or finger around the house???), or even to eves drop on my calls, but I will welcome any salesman that wants permission to "do dirty laundry cleaning".
I think you need to reel in the paranoia... I don't think that the Underground app will be cataloguing your life.

For mostly book reading, you can't get much better than the Kindle Paperwhite, which Eink with a backlight. The PPI is also really high, so text is really crisp.
This device is a porky little fella and your wife might notice it's weight when reading for longer periods.
Cheers for that. Any recommendations for a cheap e-reader, Kindle is about £60 at the moment, dont really want to pay that much if I can help it.

My wife's just broken her old kindle e-reader.
Would this be a good replacement or would she be better getting another kindle (she uses it mainly for reading books)
I've just ordered 2 16gb versions one in Cobalt Blue and the other in Citron (Yellow) from John Lewis for £99.00 and they will price match it at £89 meaning I get £10 off each device.
You can sign up for a developer account for free (Google it). You sign in with your Amazon account and then you request to test your apps on fire OS 5. They send you an email once you link your fire tablet and you get promoted to do a software update.

It is official - so really easy to do. It turns off the silly carousel and is much more like vanilla Android (albeit with a Fire flavoured skin).

They can't be very far away from making it a public release, perhaps with some tweaks.

Forgot to mention that this also gets rid of the adverts on the lock screen (for now at least).

can this version be rooted?

If it comes with Fire OS 4.5.2+ (aka Saturn) there is no way to currently root it AFAIK.

Edit: This would be an astoundingly hot deal otherwise.

I really am astounded that this was cold.

Negative Amazon sentiment has made people miss out on a fantastically priced piece of hardware.
I bought two, one for me one for the wife. and we both love them to bits!
coleraine
whats the special offer with it.?

It comes with selected adverts on it when you get to the lock screen. You can remove the, by asking Amazon CS to remove them.

Just out of curiosity, I read the reviews on Amazon for this device. Clearly there are a lot of happy, contented users out there. However these days, I tend to read the 1-star reviews first as these are the ones where folks tend to tell it like it really is. And wow, there are A LOT of 1-star reviews which have titles like Very Disappointed, Nice Present But Terrible Device & Huge Disappointment!!! Things that seem to upset people is the paucity of apps on the Amazon Store (vs Google) and the fact that when the tablet breaks down (and it seems they do with surprising regularly) your own tablet isn't fixed as such but instead you get sent someone else's refurbished tablet.
I looked at the high level specs (the FHD+ screen, the Snapdragon 800, the big battery) and thought maybe I ought to give this a second look especially at this low price. However the outpouring of vitriol in some of these reviews has convinced me to stick with my trusty Nexus 7...

I too tend to look at the 1 and 2 star reviews and have often been put off buying by those reviews. Like you say these are the ones that tend to be the most critical by people who have bought the product. I see Amazon have started to say now if it's a confirmed purchase as anyone may write a review whether purchased or not. I like to look on REVOO for genuine reviews as at least on there you cannot write a review unless you have purchased it. I remember reading a review for a 22" Samsung tv once which a few people had said the sound was awful. I ignored the handful of negative reviews and bought the tv. The 1 star reviews were right and I returned the tv and purchased the older LCD model which had far better sound. Another review I choose to ignore was for a dishwasher were a few people had said the trays were designed all wrong and the plates fell over because of the badly designed racks. They were right too. Recently I purchased a satnav that was on offer at Halfords which I hadn't reviewed. I went on Amazon and REVOO to see quite a few people had slated it and I didn't even take it out of the box and returned it for one which was a little more but had good reviews. The good reviews were right as the satnav proved faultless on a recent trip to Germany and Austria. I still may ignore some negative reviews as some people's expectations maybe too high for the price. Recently I purchased a 'genuine' Samsung case for my Galaxy S4 which I had given to my wife, a pink one of course. Out of more than 600 reviews more than 100 were one star but for £3.54 it's a good case and well worth the money plus the wife likes it !! At it's original retail price of £24.99 it may have been not as highly rated by me so a little common sense perhaps is required when writing and interpreting reviews. As for the kindle, well my wife liked the last one she had but it was sooooo heavy it made her neck ache. I am not sure who makes the Kindle but Amazon may have done better by going with a big name and advertising the fact as Google do with their Nexus.

Saying that my sister has one of these and she loves it. It has a very nice screen.

Why is this live again? This was confirmed a hoax by Tesco themselves on Twitter last night.
i suspect HUKD would need to see the tweet as proof before actually removing the deal alltogether.
that said, there have been plenty of other similar hoaxes over the years that haven't been removed
If they wish to see the tweet as proof all they need to do is scroll through @Tesco timeline to 21:21pm on 3.8.15 to find it.

that's easier said than done considering tesco get tweets every few minutes. it took me nearly 20 minutes to scroll back on their timeline to just 7 hours ago ..

I followed the advice on here and contacted Amazon about those annoying adverts. They wanted to charge me £10 to remove them! However before I could say "then I will return the Kindle for a refund" the customer service advisor said they'll remove the adverts and waive the £10 charge.
Sideloaded various apps like Kodi, Google Music, Sky Sports and Google Search. Wish you could access the Google Play Store without having to root the tablet though.

Thanks for the pics. If I place my HDX screen up on a window sill then duck down and look at it at an extremely obtuse angle I can just about make out the grid lines. As soon as I reduce the angle they vanish completely. If yours are visible in normal viewing conditions at normal viewing angles then I wouldn't be too happy either. Could be that the screens are sourced from different manufactures and some are better than others - exchange it or get a refund.

@logindetails...Agree with you that the dark lines are only visible when the tab is looked at a tilted angle...

I haven't got those grid lines on mine, I would contact Amazon and ask for a replacement or refund, the tablet that you have is obviously faulty, I have never had problem's with mine, the first one I bought is now being used by my Son, after being passed from myself to my husband then my son and it is over 3 years old. I am ow on my third Fire HDX and I am truly pleased with it. I hope that you get things sorted, Amazon are brilliant with their customer service.

I can't see what size SD card it takes, and whether this is available to apps?

It says "4.5GB available to user", which is nothing once a couple of big games are loaded, and if it can't be expanded, it's pretty worthless.
Anyone in London can use the £20 off using primenow if they use that app and the code LONDONNOW
I had one of these and wouldn't recommend it. The software just isn't nice. Which is a shame, as the tablet itself is good.

I think these are the best because they won't be broken deliberately and unavoidably by a future Google Play Services update (The Xoom and 2012 Nexus 7 have already been messed up completely in that manner).

Only a matter of time before the same happens to everything else.

what tablet would be best for a gift for mum? she only really browses the net facebook ect on her phone but struggles with the small screen. any advice appreciated
lenovo s8 its a quality 8" tablet very fast as well and prices reduced to £99 everywhere now which is a bargain. if you would have ordered last week you would have got another £30 cashback as well but still good at this price and comes in blue yellow or black colour's
I thought Hudl2 is the best value for money

It is. Some Tesco bloat and some reliability and build quality issues but it's probably the best Android tablet at its price point.

Might be worth picking one up at this price
These are not great. I have purchased about 8 or so to test for work. They drain the battery when not in use. I don't think it is a rogue app, but the OS itself as it wakes itself up (at all hours) to try to show you an advert. This in itself is a good enough reason to ditch it. Heavy to hold, large bezels, horrible amazon skin (imho) and pretty poor battery life. I would look elsewhere if I could.

My Mum had the Fire HD and then I got her the HUDL 2 for Christmas and she said that there is no comparison, the HUDL is by far the better tablet due to how limiting the Amazon OS is.
I've just put Cyanogen on my sons Kindle Fire HD. He can't believe how much better it is.
Can I ask you a quick question: I have a custom operating system on my kindle fire so I can get google play, and I have installed cyanogenmod on my phones, but when I am reading up about installing on a kindle fire they mention you have to use a "fastboot" or "factory" cable, did you have to do this? I can't seem to find a straightforward guide on how to do it. Alternatively can you just install it directly using their website?
The fastboot cable allows you to root the Kindle but then you just use a normal micro USB cable for the next part. After this, its easy. Install an app and then point it at two .IMG files and then you have custom recovery. Then install the ROM you want to use.
Stupidly, I got hold of a cable but forgot I have already rooted the Kindle ages ago to get the Play Store on it. I had a few issues getting adb working but Googled my way through.
XDA has lots of info on this and I did plenty of reading prior to starting.

Ah I get you, my kindle is currently rooted too so the chances are I should be able to just install it using the app. Thanks for the help I'll do some proper reading into it.

Got one last Christmas, always wifi and screen giving problems, factory reset more than 100 times, spoke to Customer service no help, even my 3 years daughter don't touch it now
Brilliant tablet thanks
It has a normal screen so not the same as Kindle...
Aside from the front facing camera isn't the "new" hd7 a step down from the older hdx?
Seems a decent deal for a 4th gen. I've a 3rd gen and I'd avoid the 8Gb. Just not enough space there and there is no sd-card slot to add space.

Only really worth it if you are already an Amazon Prime subscriber. Otherwise there are probably better more flexible tablets for similar money.

Good price but I've found that screen protectors on a Nexus 7 2 play havoc with the touchscreen. I ended up binning mine and "just being careful".

A lot to be said for being careful. A lot of unnecessary products out there.

I've always used these plastic screen protectors and lived with the fact that they scratch and eventually become tatty, not to mention the difficult process of applying one bubble free.... but last month I switched to a tempered glass one (cost me £2.50 so not exactly breaking the bank) - what a revelation! No bubbles, feels great, no scratching... i'd definitely recommend the switch.

The 3M Vikuiti protection films seem to be a good compromise between cost and longevity. As for application, use the "hinge method" and bubble-free application is easy.

I THINK the more recent HUKD Deals of Kindle HDX Deals of late of not too much more then this is what's helping to put some off? .. perhaps .....

Maybe, but it would help if people expressed

Or argos' previous pricing of £99.99 which has been regular in the past

Technology like this should be going down in price, not up. So the word "previous" is very relevant. I won't be buying at £20 more than a previous price.
