It's 120GB!!!!
Would think it hot for 240Gb, but cold for 120gb plus the wait. May as well see what's on offer in the sales in January from UK vendors.

will this work in an android tv box

No.
Don't purchase this expecting a 256GB device, it even says in the tech specs: 120GB MTS820

Cold for putting 2 year guarantee in title to 'win' heat. An item in this price range doesn't need it. Cheaper elsewhere with no extra charges
I've got 2 and both work fine with no buffering or crashing.
Had 1 for a long time and put up with the crashing and buffering. Bought a 2gb box and no comparison. I wouldn't want 1 for free.
It will stutter if it gets hot, which is does. Crack open the case and slap some heatsinks on it.
Any idea what the plan is for the UK and the gen2 version?

is the Jl one not the 8gb one and that's why it's cheaper? I am sure they are the same price as the Amazon 8 gb is 34.99 so it's only the warranty that's different. if people expect it to break in within two years why are you buying it as I know if it did I would still be expecting them to fix it as not fit for purpose.

I'm in before the storm comes. :D
Bought one during Black Friday for £39. Don't have a time machine to buy it again at that price now. :p
So this being the lowest available as of today with 2 years JL guarantee it's an excellent deal. Heat added <3
I rooted mine and flashed CM12. Now the device is very smooth and fast. Highly recommend.
Having real trouble finding a reliable guide on how to do this from Windows, can't find the ADB tools and stuff.
Have you got a good link with instructions and links please?
Is this my best option for a sub £50 tablet? Primary school kids, Spotify, YouTube, Homework browsing? I wanted the Android OS ideally.
Cheers, ordered
Just a reminder , for those with no local John Lewis , you can click and collect JL stuff from your local Waitrose .

Why cold :{
Because it's not the best price.
Because it's cheaper elsewhere.
Because it's not a deal.
At the time it was the same price as Argos and Amazon, A few hours later tesco undercut everywhere. Still a deal as it was £32.99 the day previous and also if you use quidco religiously like I do there was an extra incentive
Sure, I hear what you are saying, but since this isn't the cheapest price for this product currently, the heat this deal is (or isn't) getting is appropriate.
Its a cold deal, it's not hot!
It got cold before the tesco deal was up because it was the same price at Amazon and Argos

I think one of the reasons is "currys" kev. I've just experienced this in one of my posts.. Galaxy Tab reduced to £170.99 @ Tesco Direct (Reaches 70° heat).. 10 hours later I posted the Currys deal same price and end up being -143° which doesn't make sense to me apart from I think currys is a company we should steer well away from posting deals of lol.. Have some heat buddy (_;)

How annoying! Bought one from Amazon yesterday for nearly £35. Not even delivered yet.

Cancel the order if not yet despatched. Or ask for a refund on chat if it has.

Went on live chat and they refunded the difference straight away. Thanks for the advice.
Just caught a white evergreen on here, cheers.

Heard rumours of an updated version due out soon; seems everyone is selling of stock. Much prefer my Fire TV to the Stick I have; it's much quicker.

Wish they'd release it soon! Have a few people that could do with one of these and keep telling them to hold off. Also not sure if Amazon just releasing their video service to 200 countries overnight is a good thing for the supply of the stick ..... maybe in short supply soon!

Back up to £34.95 now.
If you want a good android experience you need an official Google TV OS device, i.e: Android that is designed for a TV box and menus that are designed to be navigatred with a standard IR remote control. The majority of android boxes all use a modified android OS that is intended for smartphones and tablets with touchscreens not for usage with IR remotes, hence they are difficult to use without a air mouse and keyboard.

These are devices such as the new Xiaomi Mi Box which is an officialy supported Google Android TV box, not officiallty released for the UK yet, you can get an American import version though.

The Nvidia shield is the other android box with the best support, but it has a price tag to match.

I agree with a few others in that kodi isn't what it used to be.
So if we want to get the stick fully loaded, streaming football, sports, movies, TV shows what is the consensus? Also need to get mine working with a vpn.
Don't use Kodi it's crap. Use direct streaming apps which are Mobdro and the obvious ones on rawapk.com (showbox, cinemabox etc etc).
while I agree Kodi is overrated and major main in the back to maintain functional,Mobdro is absolutely rubbish, very unreliable and usually very poor quality.should be avoided.

You're simply wrong about that. Try the latest Mobdro (2.0.28) and you'll revise your opinion I'm sure. Mobdro is the only place I go to for live TV for free. If I was paying then I'd get an IPTV sub in Kodi or Plex and I'd try to get it in Plex, but I'm happy with free.

Am still waiting on Amazon to send me one I bought in the black Friday sale for £30.
Really? Mine was dispatched straight away. I'd contact their customer services, they're usually very good at resolving any problems.

Not sure if it's an issue. I ordered a blue one and it did say oos at the time with a delivery time of December 21st. But I just noticed it's back instock? Am wondering if they got more stock in earlier than expected or if they really are going to make me wait until December 21st.

Got one of these when it was £29.99, would definitely get another 2 for the kids if it went back down to the same price. I've flashed it with Cyanogenmod 12.1 (Android 5.1) and it's very impressive for the money. John Lewis has price matched, only matter of time until Amazon does the same.
I was thinking of doing that with cyanogen when they were reduced further recently (black Friday) but when I looked into it it looked like this was no longer possible (recent firmware update blocked it) and that there were some things that didn't work well with the device. Can you comment on how well it performs/what doesn't work and point to a guide that worked.
When the tablet arrives it will usually be on firmware version 5.0. Make sure you do NOT connect the tablet to the internet or it will update to a newer firmware that will block any attempts to hack it. Follow the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/development/amazon-fire-5th-gen-supertool-root-t3272695 and it should take no longer than 10-15 mins to do! The tablet I flashed with CM12.1 runs flawlessly.
Gutted! I didnt realise i could do this and have already connected mine to the internet - dont suppose I could do a factory reset and start again ... oh well i expect that is unlikely but remember for next time
Check what firmware it has, it seems to update 1 version at a time and doesn't go straight to the most recent one. It may be low enough for it to work. There are also ways to downgrade firmware to hackable versions but you need to be careful as you can easily brick the tablet.

Follow the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/development/amazon-fire-5th-gen-supertool-root-t3272695 and it should take no longer than 10-15 mins to do! The tablet I flashed with CM12.1 runs flawlessly.

Paid £35 quid for this last week. Seems pretty decent. A lot better than my chromecast which is pretty useless in comparison for similar money.
I currently have the google chrome. Can you please explain why this is better as I don't know if I will benefit from buying one. Thanks.

Well, the main reason I bought this was for a TV in my kitchen. I didn't want to run a cable from the loft aerial so I can use this instead. You can download apps to this and do other things like play games if you were so inclined. The chromecast I only use to send 'stuff' too, which you can do with this also as far as I know.

I use the TV Player app on this and it works well for my needs of a kitchen TV, not sure if I'd want to use it as my main source of freeview.

Also has apps like Netflix and YouTube to use on the TV rather than send from a device.

I've not used it for long but it seems to be pretty decent.
Also same price on Amazon.

Bought them for 19.99 and applied the 5 quid prime app thing on top to make it 15 in total - real steal at that price.
Ive heard people reference this £5 "thing" but no idea what it is. Please explain. Thanks.
So Amazon have a prime now app (available for iOS and android) and if they deliver to your post code and you make your first order you get a 5 pound off code for goods sold by Amazon - which is what I used to buy these. Please check if your post code is covered and take benefit from it, if it is -:)
Wow. Didn't know anything about that. Thanks for the info Matwalaboy. I will go check. :)
you are welcome - hope you can save that 5 pounds :)

Is amazon still producing fire tabs? I though they discontinued it as a failed product.. just like fire phone
For anyone who is considering buying a Fire its good value was even better last week ( I bought Two @ 49,99) where else can you buy a fire by buying it with three interest fee payment and a 6 weeks to return if your not happy with it.

I'm surprised by the number of people who are happy to let Amazon access all that it does on your phone and tablet for a few free games. Have you all looked into what Amazon is actually accessing via the Underground app or just blindly accepted all permissions?
A screenshot of the permissions is here, the permissions are quite lax (Contacts, SMS and phone identity being the most notable for me):
http://www.hotukdeals.com/freebies/amazon-underground-for-android-100s-paid-apps-for-free-2270829?p=25855349
It depends if you feel the games are sufficiently good to balance this (along with the security risk of allowing 'Unknown sources' for non-Amazon devices).

Mine arrived today, all good. Has IPS top screen and TN bottom screen, the other one I bought from Argos has two TN screens. The IPS is really nice when compared side by side.
How did find out which screen type you had? Did you have another 3DS to compare?
Hi,
Yes I have two of these limited edition ones and a none XL console but it's rather easy. Turn off auto brightness and put on brightness 3, change the skin to the black one. Turn the lights out so your in a dark room and tilt the console so you looking from the side. If the screen don't wash out and you can still see all the stuff displayed then you have IPS.
Ok i'll give that a go when mine arrives, thanks :)
please let me know what you get, there is a big difference when you coompare them side by side but you wouldn't be bothered otherwise.
Looks like the I got the IPS screen, wahoo!
Both top and bottom?
Nah, just the top. Bottom definitely TN.

Hey guys.
480 or 1060? In what terms should I compare the 2 and decide by then.

The 1060 outperforms the 480 in most games but you cant SLI 1060's if you wanted to where as you can XFire with 480's.

reading recent reviews, updated drivers has made the rx480 on par with 1060nfor dx11 games and much better in dx12. also, freesync monitors are much cheaper than gsync.
Yeh as others have said it is a good winter/Christmas card lol, also very noisy on load apparently

The two used ones came yesterday. They're basically new. Not a mark or spec of dust on them. All the new ones came today. Incidentally, the return address for them is a UK address. Looks like this was an incredible bargain.

Back on at that price again, so very tempted. My only problem is that I've only a pci-e 2.0 board, and I'm worried the extra power draw of the 480 is likely to dry it compared to he 1060 :/

The WiiU version is partially censored compared to the others.
You could just give CEX £10 instead, sure it's secondhand but I'd prefer that than having the French version. It doesn't matter to me as I already own it but for other people it should be a consideration.
Moreover, that seems to be the US version (on Amazon UK). Ships from the US and has the ESRB rating on the cover.

Which means it won't work on a UK Wii U.

Nope, same prices as last week - this is the 16GB version which is a tenner dearer
Except Tesco had the 16GGB for this price with a case and a 32GB micro SD card if you're a fan of time machines. ;)
What's the benefit of flashing with stock android over just installing the play store (which is very, very easy)?
You don't have the amazon bloatware on it and it's more customisable. Each to their own.

I have the HD518's and they sound good to me as they are my first decent headphones but they let too much noise in through the open backs. I can hear the PS4 fan through them still when gaming and if my family are in forget about relaxation. I am looking at some decent closed headphones to remedy this as I have just had to make do with a closed turtle beach headset I had kicking around for now to isolate any unwanted noise. I imagine the 558's and the 598's will be just as open so it's worth considering if you have a noisy household
Just returned these two days after getting them from Amazon. Horrible cardboardy sound, totally disappointed. At work, we have several sets – AKG K701 and Sony MDR 7506 (both sensational), as well as AKG K702 (so-so) plus Bose SoundTrue (crap), thus some decent comparison was made, but Sennheiser HD598 came across as trully awful. Just my opinion, of course.

thanks :)

Thanks for this, i was torn too, had the 558 on order and cancelled for these then i was thinking i would mod the 558 and maybe i should just buy them but one of the posts on that link:

"I wonder if Sennheiser has wised up to this and placed stickers on newer batches of HD558 to prevent the screws from being removed....else, warranty is void."

Cold voters could really do with posting a link to a better deal :(

People are voting cold, because they know this will not come back into stock at this price
Its backlash due to Nvidias price fixing tactics. But they're far and away the best around at the mo so they can charge what they want. And in that context, this is a good deal. (or would be if it was in stock!!)

I've always been Team Red, but my 1070/Gsync setup is just incredible and well worth the money.
