Refurbished not new. Old computer keyboards can be very dirty even if they look clean to the naked eye.
True but a brand new replacement is normally around 25 quid if it really bothers you. Personally the worst thing about second hand laptops is the drive and battery condition as these tend to be more money to replace
Changing a keyboard on a Lenovo laptop is not easy. You can end up doing more damage than just changing the keyboard, thanks to the joy stick in the middle of the keyboard. Opening Lenovo/IBM laptops to upgrade is not for the faint hearted.
Not true, they are designed in fact to be incredibly easy to take apart, just one single screw holding the keyboard on most Lenovo Thinkpads.
These are the top business line. Costed over £600 when new
This deal deserves way more heat.

More like £1200

It's still a good deal.

Your not going to see the keyboard in the dark anyway.

USB3 for high speed video recording.

A few more usb2's for peripherals that you cannot control wirelessly.

Shame about the lack of bluetooth for those you can but it's a easy and cheap add.

Massive battery life so you can keep going all night.

12" nice and portable so it easy to take to site but not so small you cannot see your charts.

A fraction the cost of a toughbook.

Was looking at these a year or ago they were more than this.

Would be straight in the cart if I did not have other stuff going on.

They probably have Bluetooth, although not listed.

The Lenovo X61 range was built like tank, Lenovo X200/X201/X220/X230 models is built like crap, the lid split into two pieces meant the top part of the lid is prone to breaking off, the Lenovo X240 model reverted back to the standard one piece back lid.
They may not be as well built as the X61, but they are certainly not built like crap, in fact, they are still some of the toughest laptops on the market

Just saw this but when went to website back up to £229. Damn.
Ordered on Friday (31st) and given a RM Special Deliver tracking number. Number doesn't work. Contacted Very today and was told it will be in stock on Friday 7th! But they have taken the money and I have an email saying it's been despatched. Furthermore it's still listed on their website as "In Stock for delivery tomorrow"

Sorry it's a 100s: Blame tiny phone keyboards late at night ! I did upload a photo which hasn't appeared. Spec is 2gb RAM 32gb eMMC Atom 1.33gHZ CPU etc. I think colour is black only. Not what I was looking for but a really nice little machine, great price & John Lewis guarantee/service. What's not to like.
Do you know the John Lewis product code? May be on the receipt? I might ring up and get one put by if there are any left. Thanks

Not to worry I've found the product code

Yes I know it's going to be slow, has very limited storage and will struggle to do anything more than word processing...
However it is only £130 and has no bloatware on it either. Oh and has a year of Office 365 to.
Would suit a young kid off to school for the first time maybe.
Will need to add a USB stick to store documents, music etc.
There's 50 quid cashback at Quidco on top of this now - agree it's not the best in the world, but with the cashback i'm having one.
cashback is not showing up now :|
I've actually ordered one now due to Megaman's cashback spot! Ideal for my GF's 11 year old daughter first year at school.

Fingers crossed the cashback tracks :)

No Bloatware ? wrong it has windows on it with bloatware built in plus you will be a windows beta tester for MS (The latest update has killed lots of users kit and needed a full install and lost of data to fix so with windows you really must have backups.

For the same money and limited usage of this a good android tablet or chromebook would be a good alternative.

Any computer should be actively backed up, Windows or not, ideally to a cloud service (so it's offsite).

Advise if you have the time or don't have the money, you can take a supply from another laptop with same voltage and equivalent or more amperage and solder on the connector from an old one. Amps are pulled not pushed so you just need to find a voltage match with more or the same amps. I've been doing this for years with old supplies that I have in a box. Just make sure the polarity is the same with a multi-meter and you're golden.

Agree with above better off buying a charger specific to your laptop: Leicke PSU

Yes but you'll find some sneaky companies like Argos refurb will send you laptops without power supplies and you discover they are no longer made by the manufacturer, ie some Lenovo Ideapads. Then give you a refund that doesn't cover the cost of a universal adapter. Good deal. Heat.

Good luck with this, mine lasted 10 minutes before it blew the wifi card. Known problem although Dell denied any knowledge of the issue.
So you logged a call and got it fixed? XPS laptops come with 1 years premium support as I found when I had a small issue with my Outlet XPS 15.

I sent it back for a refund. At first they were going to send out an engineer, then reneged. Lovely laptop, but far too many owners have had Broadcom wifi issues.

Remember that the RAM is soldered so you can't upgrade.
Have seen the same spec on Dell Outlet but with 8GB and 256GB SSD for as low as £680 but usually more.

Should have been i7 with at least 8GB ram to even consider it. Also 256GB SSD, IPS screen.

Stupid statement. It's the specs you look at and not the price. Put another 100 on top and at least get an entry level netbook with 250gb hdd and 4 gb ram. That's closer to the minimum specs nowadays.

Noooooooo! Been lurking on the frontpage for months but had to comment. You can get a 2nd gen i5 laptop for that price if you look carefully, my Dell E6220 (12", 7x+ faster CPU - i3 2330M) was only £39.99 and my ThinkPad X220 (12", 10x+ faster CPU - i5 2550M) was £64.
Looks like its back to the drawing board for me then!
I have this one as well. it crawls with windoze 7 on it. Not that much faster with Lubuntu. Sorry but a waste of money.
I have this exact netbook and this is really not what you need. It is old and very slow. Windows was never any good on it and upgrading it to 2GB doesn't make it much better. It's better with a more lightweight Linux OS installed, but still pretty painful.

You probably should be looking for a refurbished Chromebook instead...
False economy with tablets available around the £50-60 mark and full on hybrid devices not much more.

Single core, none touch, low resolution, mechanical drive and bulky.

Anyone know the weight on this?

According to the results of a google search, 2kg
I'm not of a technology mind.lol
My daughter needs a new lap top for school etc. Would this be a good buy? Thanks.
I'd say she would be better off with a larger screen. 12.5 is great for being portable but if it's just going to sit on a desk or her lap 99% of the time then something 14inch or larger would be best. What is your budget?
The main thing's would be battery life with it not being connect to the mains and speed of the laptop.

Has anyone who bought one tried peeling the sticker off the right hand palm rest? Does it come off easily without making a nasty mess?
If not, use some WD40 on a tough paper kitchen towel to clean any glue residue, it works well for that, then wipe off the slightly oily residue of the WD40, first with any dry part of the paper towel, then with some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol - not surgical spirit though, as that usually has castor oil, so leaves an oily residue of its own) on another kitchen towel - or if you can't find any pure isopropyl alcohol to buy (it's a useful solution to have around for cleaning laser lenses of various devices, actual lenses on cameras and other glass parts where you can't have water or water residue) then use a tiny bit of washing up liquid on a cotton bud (or your fingertip) and wipe it off with a thoroughly wrung out cloth or yet another paper towel (so moist, but obviously not dripping with water at all).

Hi. Need a new laptop for my daughter, Year 7, for school. Don't need anything fancy. Any recommendations, please?
Yes.
This!!
I'd rather get a refurb ThinkPad X220 like the one I'm using now. 2nd gen i5 which beats the 4200U for performance, upgradable, excellent keyboard, and basically indestructible. I use it for school work (year 10) and it's much better than this (which is essentially a tablet's components stuffed in a laptop).
The laptop posted will become infuriating to use, honestly. Get something a bit more powerful - I recommend going refurbished. The only thing you'll miss out on is Office, but there is plenty of free alternatives including the Office Mobile apps on the Windows store. Otherwise just spend a bit more and get an i3 laptop for around £250. It'll be worth it in the long run.

mine arrived today, around 10 am. ordered yesterday around 2pm. laptop in mint condition, the only thing which indicates that laptop is not new, small scuff on the panel which hides battery. put ssd in it, just flies now.

In the Christmas just past, the seller did 30% off everything.
When the deal first started, there were so many good refurbs at very good price. They were so tempting.
The stock went very quickly. The next day I check, the price was not so good, it may be seller deliberately increased price or all good ones are gone.
If you need a laptop and do not mind refurb, and close to black Friday or Christmas, it does not hurt to check the seller out at those days. You might get yourself a very good deal.

If I recall (as I was also after one at the time) there was excess stock of inspirons and business range. The one I was after went very quickly so passed in the end, but I don't remember price being increased. Some identical models were cheaper than others because of physical defects like large scratches or random missing bezel
Not sure how many this helps, but mine has arrived this morning, looks in pristine condition and actually has windows 10 home loaded onto it, pretty much bloatware free, just without a valid licence key.

They arrived today.
I am VERY happy with them and my kids will love them.
They have a 250GB hard drive and one had a stylus so better then advertised as well.
For under £50 (if you order two) - they are a steal :)
OP ignore all these so called experts and hear sayers. To many techo-snobs these days.

I have in front of me an Acer Aspire One netbook, with a single core, single thread 1.7ghz CPU manufacture date 2010\05\22. I upgraded the ram to 4gb for £5 and a cheapo SSD installed another £15, both sourced from fleabay. Now upgraded to Windows 10.

It boots to Windows 10 in under 12 seconds (from cold, not sleep), and runs all the simple apps, browsing, media, emails fine. It struggles with more than a few multiple tasks, but with the SSD, just close them and re-open them, its nearly instant. It will never set the world on fire, but it is a perfectly usable machine.

oh and if cost is your main criteria then i would go for this:http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_252625.html

That is a nasty Chinese tablet.
It has no keyboard, is 1.5x the price and likely you would get nailed by customs too

Since when did netbooks have an overheating problem? Also, who's just bought a netbook?

Believe me, when assembling your netbook if you fail to connect the cooling fan up you will have overheating problems and no online seller will give you a refund whether you used paypal, Bitcoin or monopoly money.

I saw the deal for lenovo 700 11.6 inch here 464.99 pounds insted of 499 pounds using the code LENVC7 when I click the deal , I was diverted to Lenovo web site and they have their eCode . Going to the shopping basket the price is 499 pounds.
kindly explain this ? please and how to order this item with price tag 464.99 pounds?
Got mine. It's rather nice. It doesn't however have a backlit keyboard. Lenovo have now added "(Optional)" onto the product page - an admission of their previously poor advertising I do believe.. Lets see if I can get a few more quid off...
"No, there's no backlit keyboard... what do you expect for something this price and this slim?"

Lol - I expect it if they say they've included it - otherwise I wouldn't have expected it...
Spoke to the sales team, the website listing is the 'up to' list of features, but this specific version does not have that feature. Lol that's a new one for me, kinda misleading...
Anyway I asked if there were any other missing features, none apparently. Still tempted, but backlit keys would have been great for this one.
I've had one of these for a few weeks. They are excellent. I paid £540 for it and still think it's a bargain.

No, there's no backlit keyboard... what do you expect for something this price and this slim?

Hot? I'm using it right now and have been for an hour. As per usual, it's slightly above room temperature. I've coded on it for hours, I've watched a film on it and I've even tried to game on it for a couple of hours (Hearthstone was a bit choppy, but still far faster than my mate's last gen Core M).

I've never had it crash and it's always been plenty fast enough. Unless I'm really loading it, it feels just as snappy as my Core i7 desktop. The only problem I've had is the touch pad doesn't register two-finger-dabs for a right click without a 30 second Registry change... it's a common Lenovo/Synaptics issue.

It's a Chromebook so you just log into your google account on chrome so only one password to remember.

I sometimes randomly manage to get it charging. I'll bear this in mind. It has about 20 mins left just now but I'd like to be able to use it over Christmas (and longer if there's a solution!). I have a feeling they asked me to try this on the phone to HP though and it didn't work, might not have been this exactly though so I'm certainly going to try it.

So refresh, power and have it all plugged in first and ready to charge? Light should come on when I do this? How odd. I wonder how they found this solution! I really like it, just a shame about the charging problem. A new charger has fixed the problem, but they're working for less and less time now!
lesley74
Looking at this because I think I'm going to have to replace my HP Chromebook 11, as I'm having charging problems with it again. They sent me a new charger and it worked for a while but it has just gone out of warranty and the charger has gone on the blink again. Bought a new one and it's not working very well already. Looks like a common fault. Hopefully other brands don't have this fault. It's a micro usb.
Try and do a Hard Reboot with it plugged in -- Hold down the refresh button (over the 4) and the Power Button for 4 seconds, and release, does the charge light now come on and it begins charging? Used to have to do that with mine every few months or so i don't have it anymore but i think it was just this model that suffered from the issue due to the introduction of micro usb for charging a laptop for the first time.

Hi guys,
I've installed a Kingston HyperX SSD with 500 read/write. It's, according to crystalmark, 2.5x faster in processing data to the CPU.
I've installed windows 10 from scratch on the SSD and have defaulted to this drive as my default OS drive. The eMMC 32card is being used as additional storage.
Works wonders!.... impressive 10 hour battery.

I bought this laptop and tried to install a 2.5" HDD i had lying around but it won't seem to fit completely? One side is lifted and the flap covering the enclosure won't close. Not quite sure why... Does it need to be an SSD that will fit?

Cheers

OK, that is your opinion. Care to add value by explaining why? There are tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of machines of this spec or much worse (e.g. AMD E1) being sold, so clearly not everyone agrees.
bang on, so why does anyone buy them, if all you eant is a cheap, low spec machine, essentially for browsing and a little word processing, get a chromebook: cheap, great battery life, great start-up speed, no known virus.
Offline use? The option to print? The ability to use other USB devices? The list is endless - Chromebooks are simply not for me.

all lenovo windows machines do

Wrong.

They have been caught 3 times over the last x years on a few of their models. The major one was they installed Supafish on a few models which showed targeted advertising based on users habits, just the same as Google has been doing for years. The main issue was how they did it, using MITM technology that could be exploited by hackers. I actually believe this was intentional and 'suggested' to them by the Chinese intelligence agency so they could try to infiltrate other governments IT infrastructure (quite a few stopped using Lenovo machines after this issue).

The second issue was when they installed firmware based software that automatically downloaded drivers and Lenovo system software. They used the same technique that Sony used a few years ago to try and stop people playing pirated music, something called a rootkit. It was coined as a 'bootkit' and meant to be able to survive a total system wipe. It seemed to be for good intentions, in the event of a system failure/reinstall it would try to automatically reinstall drivers direct from Lenovo's servers using non personally identifiable information (machine serial, model etc). But yet again implemented badly, it could be exploited to open up your machine to attacks by 3rd parties.

The third time was tracking software installed on some laptops... Apple do this as well on phones, its for many good reasons and can be disabled. Their failings on these was not informing the user in plain English, and also not giving an easy way to remove them if you so wished, both of these have been now provided by Lenovo.

Its all Chinese whispers (excuse the pun!).

No longer available now, but, I would put this in the "fair price for what it is, marginally better than similar deals, and sensible option because you can spread the payments out" category

There are various specs for this model with the lower end version recently going for under £130. This is the higher spec with better processor and more ram.

I'm holding out for it to come down in price as it is an old model now but I prefer to have a laptop with a proper hard drive rather than using the cloud for storage.

Not voting either way as I think it should be cheaper.

This is one dog of a laptop.
If your mouse pad is not already faulty and your curser isn't jumping around the screen and then freezing it will happen soon.
My one went fauty within 2 months and Acer fixed it.
They replaced the mouse pad and the new one after another few months feels loose and ready to break.
Try googling 'Acer ES1-311 touchpad mousepad' to find many owners with the same problem.

Think your a little confused. The first netbooks had atom cpus and larger mechanical hard drives. This is a very terrible way of alienating anyone you give it to.

No, you're confused. Asus started the netbook trend in 2007 with its Eee PC 701 which used a 4GB SSD and an underclocked Celeron processor.

Models with Atom processors and mechanical hard drives followed later.

Ah sorry, had a look and your right. Completely forgot about that early model.

The 250gb mobile data per month is through a company called foggdata, who in turn contract 3 to provide it in the uk.
Yes, and the website says it includes all relevant countries, which seems to include France, Spain & Italy! Is my reading correct? "Your included monthly data package supports roaming in all countries where HP DataPass is available."
I read it that way too.
I think I posted this deal on the wrong day - there had been a post for an 11inch hp stream in the same colour for £149 the same or previous day that went hot, and I think people were assuming this was the same deal/lappy with a 2 inch bigger screen for £50 more.
Ah well, hey-ho!
Yep, morons & sheep effect! This can be had for £179 in the 11" version (with the data - £1.25/mth for 250MB possibly roaming data)! It is a question of £20 + lighter VS bigger screen (for me I would go 11.6 even without the £20 saving - I say that typing on my 2 year old 11.6" laptop, having preferred 13.3" but bought this due to price - never once thought that it was too small, except when trying to show two people something on it - three people huddled round it felt silly).
You should post it, maybe you could word the description better than I? Possibly get a better response.
Note: at £1.25 pm for 2yrs datapass, the 13.3 is £10 cheaper deal overall. Weird.
Sorry I did not make my point very well - the 11.6" is £179 including the data but I feared M&S may point out that it was already posted £30 cheaper, hence adding the £30 extra equates to £1.25 per month for the data (probably worth it if you travel to the countries it may work in a few weeks over the 2 years or if you happen to need data regularly but in small doses in the UK).

I doubt it, but if anyone wants to, go ahead - I think TCB was offering about 1%.

Ended up going with a tablet myself, so won't be able to confirm on the roaming. Did the usual spin cycle from 7" tablet up to 15.6" laptop & round & round many times! Chose the tablet based on info like the above - suggestions in another thread - a lot of good info is posted that way these days - I suspect largely to avoid the annoyance of seeing your deal get iced by the M&S!

EDIT: It also avoids the Hot Tab to Ebay vultures too! :)

Cons
Worst mousepad in the galaxy
Terrible dim super-reflective screen almost useless during daytime
Very disappointing performance in all web-browsers
Keyboard stinks
SD cards pop out of the sd-card slot randomly
Lousy battery

Got mine today as well - windows booted from fresh and office 365 code worked. Updating now. Great device as new and in original packaging. So now to sell my Linx 8 - I think - or maybe not - you can never have too many devices !
Mine didn't come with Office code. Where did you find yours please? Was it on a card in the packaging? When I click on Office it asks me to purchase a licence or enter code to activate?
Anyone else got/or didn't get Office code? TIA
Yes it was on an orange piece of paper inside with a proper windows type licence sticker on it. Sadly however mine now seems to have got the won't wake up problem - I cannot start it even after leaving on charge for 24 hours. Off back to Amazon if I can't get it going this evening !
Have you tried updating the BIOS? The latest version is 313 for the TA model, have a look at the transformer forums.
yes updated to 313 once it came back to life - thanks
How did you update the bios?
via the asus website - all worked seamlessly

Not working for me...says current bios does not recognise the new bios rom type

Got mine today, bashed box but pristine device, contrary to description! No office though :(
I bought one of these refurbs, great little machine, came as new in original box but I have had issues with random reboots and it won't switch on again for a while. Its being returned to amazon today within their 30 day period. They will probably just resell it again so be warned! I must decide whether to buy another t100 or get somrthing different
Me too, I hope the description of the scratches is pessimistic... it mentioned about 6!
Just picked one up from Amazon warehouse used/very good for £119.99. Got 30 days to send it back too.

Yes you get the bare laptop and psu in shrinkwrap - absolutely nothing else.
Condition was as new though.http://i.imgur.com/fLXhuW0m.jpg

I think it is Full HD. If you look up the part number listed on very (80HV002SUK) by "Machine Type - Model" @ http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/partslookup you'll see a Full HD LCD part.
I can confirm these are the full HD :)

So can I. Bought this a couple of months ago from Very and am (Very) impressed with it. Great build quality and runs really smoothly. Never liked windows 8.1 but is ok for a tablet like this though do use the keyboard a lot.

I think im going to go for this for about another £60 ish,
i know its not much of a deal but seems a bit better spec
your thoughts guys,http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/lenovo-flex-10-1-convertible-touchscreen-laptop-black-10106758-pdt.html

Save £60 and go for this one instead;

Lenovo Flex Ebay

The processor isn't quite as good - but you will have £60 to invest in an SSD which will transform the performance on such a laptop. In fact, there was a Hynix SSD available for £35 on HUKD earlier today which is probably still available. I don't like the retailer that sells it...but at £35, it's almost certainly worth a punt.

Dont know much about the specs etc, can anyone advise the main differance between this one and the posted one, apart from this is a refurb.
just want one for web, storing video files etc, not for gaming,
any help appreciated.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-10-1-Inch-Celeron-4GB-320GB-Touch-Laptop-/171523123521?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3
Looks like the one you posted is just a touchscreen netbook. The one in this deal is basically a fully functioning tablet with a keyboard dock. I have just received mine today and couldn't be happier with it. I used to have an Asus t100 and it was okay but this has a much more premium feel especially for the price :)

I vowed not to buy a 32GB eMMC tablet again. Not that I am in any way disappointed with my Asus T100 (writing this from it as we speak) - but just because the storage space is v.restrictive.

However, I have a £25 off voucher for Very - and a Full HD screen would resolve one of my only gripes with my T100. However, am I right in thinking that this Lenovo has some pretty awful speakers? Also, how is the touchpad (I assume it must be better than on the Asus).

Also, does the Lenovo charge via micro USB?

£4 is £4 at the end of the day, just annoying I bought it a few days ago lol :) it's worth £12.99 and definitely a bargain at £8.99.
Excellent case.
Actually the macbook air case is still at £12.99, the one you link is described as a netbook case. They look pretty much identical though, so not sure if there's much difference.

And that the price is now a couple of pounds cheaper than the price you paid?
