Was it ever out of stock anywhere?
The the lack of games means other than the initial release purchases I doubt there's a queue of people lining up to buy now.
No never, I don't understand the back in stock posts. Amazon pre-orders sold out but you could pre-order elsewhere. HMV had it when others "sold out" Amazon got more stock and then Nintendo sold direct. There has never at one point been a stage the console was not available from a reputable retailer.
Sorry where is it in stock then?
There are the odd occasions that amazon get them in and then like this tesco will get some but they they sell out again.
I've just checked the following and all out of stock
Amazon
Tesco
Game
HMV
Very
Obviously I haven't checked every retailer that might sell them but on the whole there is very limited stock and as soon as someone gets them in they are selling out again.
In stock at Game now.
Both the Neon & Grey appear to be OOS at Game at the moment.
Shows in stock to mehttp://www.game.co.uk/en/m/nintendo-switch-grey-with-mario-kart-8-deluxe-2018829

Banner link goes to many in stock bundles.
Also in stock at the dreaded shopto http://www.shopto.net/nintendo/switch/SWHW02-nintendo-switch-neon-red-neon-blue
Yeah that's a bundle tho so you can't buy the console on its own. I think the point being made is that it has actually been out of stock for the majority of the time since it was released - i.e. it might come into stock somewhere but it generally sells out soon after. Saying that, I don't particularly see the point of posting that it's in stock at a particular retailer.
Shopto is console only in stock. Point I was making is it is never out of stock but I was proved wrong for a short period where It did actually go out of stock. Seems they are back and coming back soon to other retailers. I personally am wating for a price drop, I think Nintendo are asking way too much. I can't get what I need from it for under £430. I will get one when it hits sub £225 for console and a game.
Ok, but the fact there is currently only one online retailer - shopto - which has stock of the console available to order (discounting game as they are forcing bundles) - & shopto only have the neon available as the grey is oos - doesn't really suggest they are coming back into stock elsewhere. It suggests that it's still fairly difficult to get hold of, particularly if you want to buy from a particular retailer. There is either a very limited supply or the switch is selling fairly well so far.
Personally, I bought mine second hand but basically new with Zelda for £250 on gumtree which seemed reasonable to me. You can wait for the console & a game for £225 if you like - there's no real reason to expect that to happen any time soon but I guess you don't mind waiting anyway.

True, I say it is coming back in stock soon because Amazon have on their listing more stock on 25th. Seems you got a good deal. I don't mind waiting, I have a feeling it will be that price a few months after christmas when sales slow and software rises. All the best.

I don't want to speak too early but so far so good with very. I have received my £20 off pro controller, £20 off Zelda due to arrive next Tuesday and 20% off switch end of June :)
Can I only use this code once per account? wanna order ARMS and Splatoon 2 (maybe even Crash trilogy).

It keeps telling me the promotional code is invalid

Nor me
Some more digging reveals that it only applies if you open a new credit account which might not be the best thing to do for your credit history
Unless you don't pay it I don't see why it would have a negative impact on your credit score, yes it would effect the total you could borrow from another lender based on the total amount of credit you have but if you pay it off and close it it should be fine.
how do you even make a credit account
dosent work for me how did you guys get it to work
nice one, just ordered splatoon 2 for £25 cheers op

Got an email from Amazon today (on release date) saying "We're still trying to obtain the following item..." very disappointed. surely they would have known yesterday so i could have ordered it from base instead.

I got the same email. I complained and they gave me £10 for the inconvenience. Doesn't help me get it for the weekend though.

I'm tempted to download it now, but I really wanted an actual copy.

It seems base have no stock either must have had problems from their suppliers

It's the only game worth playing on the console

I've seen this for £50 in cex! but Ive noticed a lot of pre owned in house games like zelda, Mario, yoshi etc are sold at ridiculous prices at Game and Cex just because they are Nintendo games. I'm after smash Bros on the wii u and it's still retailing around 35 quid pre owned.
Try Grainger, I think Smash is £25 used there.

Yes, it's ridiculous, the problem is people must be buying them or they wouldn't be that price! People need to start voting with their wallets, if it's too dear don't buy it. While there may not be that much choice on Switch yet virtually every other console has a rich library of excellent and sensibly priced games...

Lol, sure let's fund this vile company the price of £40 for a pre-owned product. Meanwhile the content creator won't get a penny for a remarkable achievement
Not sure what Game have done to be classed as vile, I've only ever had good customer service from them and the only complaint I have with them are their high prices.

As for the 'used sales mean no revenue for the developer' comment, you might want to look up how little revenue stores get for selling a new game and why. Without the used market bricks and mortar stores would have been out of business years ago.

Nearly £40 for a rehashed game, people are stupid enough to pay silly amount for this, should have been in the region of £20-£25. vote cold
This game is awesome .. my 5 year old niece and nephew played it using the steering wheels .. soo much fun
still way too expensive, waiting till its at least 30

I have a switch and a Wii u, already have mk8 on the Wii u, is this just a straight port of the Wii version or is there anything extra? Graphics same quality etc?

Graphics get a boost (docked), battle mode is much better. Tracks are all the same but include all WiiU DLC. And other very minor tweaks. That's it! It's an old game but still tremendous fun. Whether existing WiiU users need to upgrade really depends on how much you value the portable aspect.

Remember the days when a console just sat quite happily on it's own, straight out of the box without any need for additional stands?
I don't recall the Gameboy, DS, PSP sitting happily on their own.
How is that even the same?
The above mentioned were all predominantly hand helds. The switch is supposed to be a console and a hand held.
But if you like getting ripped off paying for extra stuff that should be standard, crack on.

The Switch comes with the stand straight out of the box, you don't have to purchase extra stuff oO

Got one, it's really nasty quality.
Makes the standard dock look premium.
You mean this £10 stand isn't the quality of the £70 TV dock? Shocking.

£70 LOL

Genuine price. They are selling them separately soon in the US at that price point.

dunno what country you live in as uk stock has been as rare as finding unicorn poop!
Amazon prime NOW has them in the birmingham region for rrp as i got mine last weekend via that after waiting for stock on standard amazon.

I must have missed all those posts don't know since the post would have hit 1000 degrees surely?
Up until a couple of weeks ago there was plenty of stock as long as you didn't mind where you got it from. Since then though yeah it looks like stock has become more difficult to find. If anyone wants one, just check Nowinstock instead of solely relying on this site, it comes and goes but should be able to grab one within a few days.

Does anybody else hope that Nintendo does an official "SNES" designed Switch+Dock (in the EU/JAP colour scheme), after seeing that one-off modder's Switch? Looks insane!

Have a look at the custom switches Colourware are doing, look amazing

the rds industries (big Ben in the uk) cases have compartments inside for the game cases included with their switch cases - they look brilliant and have had great reviews. ordered myself the mario kart one from Amazon Spain for £20

you should check them out if you haven't seen them

Damn thought I would have a few weeks to decide if I want these or not. Looks like del will be 10-14 may now as just got email.
To add on to what I said here about having the comfort of playing in bed lying down, with the joy cons, I can play with my hands in whatever position I feel comfortable with at that time - I even gamed for a while with my hands under my chin because I felt like it ;) I have a pro controller too but you can't do it comfortably with it.
Stelph

Gotta say I find this pricing obscene and I am a switch owner before anybody kicks off. The pro controller is pricey too but at least better quality than this. These should be £35-40 in my opinion. Yes it's a good price for the product so voted hot but overpriced product
Im kind of torn really, I agree they are quite expensive but then they can be used as two separate controllers for multiplayer games which standard controllers cannot - Nintendo should be bundling them with the controller holder for this price tho

If the Japanese media is to be believed, the estimated cost of Joy-Con controller is $45 each.. you can't really expect Nintendo to sell them at a loss though..

The cost of parts on a DualShock 4 in 2013 was estimated at $18, while the Xbox One’s controller was only $15.

Where do you pur the screen bit when doing that?

Not real a deal it's rrp

Yes but it is a fantastic, groundbreaking and innovative game which is a must have for any gamer. On the switch.

On any other console, it is a mediocre piece of bits and bytes that's hardly worth your time.

Yeah I bought it when it went live, it's more it's a deals site and this isn't a deal it's rrp =P

It's like me posting persona 5 on psn RRP, saying it's literally the best game I've played in years

Kudos for shin chan though =p

It's a good game on any system.

Isn't it like an hour long or something?

There are four worlds, and three unique characters, so three different playthroughs. First playthrough will take maybe 90 minutes. But you'll be speedrunning in 30 mins by the third. It's a really fun game, and the cost of a posh pint (and longer lasting).

Well, a large proportion of people when posting deals just copy/paste blurb from the relevant listing - although HUKD guidance asks that people not do so, this is pretty much the same thing.

Is anybody having issues using these 5% discount codes? It won't let me use any codes in my account now. Oh well, I'll just open a new account.
They changed policy recently and now only allow the code to be used twice per account.
Really? Forever? If that's the case then I guess I'll just switch to electronicfirst, seen a lot of listings for it here so I guess it's been tried and tested
Sadly yes. Of course, there's always the new account route, inconvenient though that might be.
It's not usually something I go so far as to do but I would consider it if there weren't ready alternatives. Thanks for the info!

Ordered, watched many reviews and this has everything I want. (Hard Shell, Room for buttons not to squish, handle, Game cases, Pouch for USB C and a cool design) If going to spend so much on the handheld I want it well protected for the sake of a fiver more.

I've been using this case for a little while and it's good! Hold's the Switch well, has a pad to protect the screen, and also holds some headphones, a USB-C cable, the joycon wrist straps and my powerbank. Perfect! :)
EDIT: Noticed that it's around £19 now, and it was about £14 when I ordered it 2-3 weeks ago so maybe it'll come down in price again.
Available and cheaper here £12.99 with free delivery ;)http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Orzly-Protective-Carry-Case-Cover-Pouch-for-Nintendo-Switch-Console-Black-/152448724161?hash=item237ea6ecc1:g:NkwAAOSwmgJY3ko-

It's not some random other case though is it? They provided a link to an identical case (not the OP) but a lot cheaper.

Well no, LOL, that's the point - it's not identical...

What device did you use to post this? Chances are it, or at least parts of it, were made in China or Hong Kong or thereabouts. After Brexit, everything will have to come from China so get used to it! Or maybe we can start manufacturing them in the UK, in which case they'll be £19.99. Or we could always get UK children to make them in sweatshops...

You're talking absolute nonsense. There's protection built into modern devices these days that prevent these sorts of things, e.g. devices only pull the power that they require and no more.
I've been using a cheap car charger for 6 months in my car and I've never had an issue.
To anyone who isn't knowledgeable with this stuff and wants the above item, don't listen to unfounded claims.
Can it cause damage? Yes. Will it? Probably not
Ha ha "built in protection" yeah I'm sure little Jimmy Wong tests every one of these, although he makes 500 a day and is only 6 years old. Jog along.
He means there is built in protection in the devices you are charging, i.e. your phone, tablet, Nintendo Switch, etc., because those devices are obviously more sophisticated and built to higher standards. These chargers are simple devices that have two jobs - enable you to plug USB cables into your cigarette lighter socket (because obviously they wouldn't fit otherwise) and step the 12v from your car's battery down to the 5v required by USB-charged devices. They're so simple you could make one yourself with some basic components (resistors, capacitors, etc.), but low quality ones may do a poor job of regulating the voltage, and it's possible that a voltage spike could damage the device but a good device will be able to manage that. Major problems occur when there is too much current, which would be a problem with your device rather than the charger, because, as Bradders said, the charger only provides the amount of current provided because it is down to the device being charged to 'pull' the electricity from the charger.

It's very simple. You buy something directly from China, then generally speaking you are at the mercy of their safety standards.
So; what safety standards do these devices conform to? They don't have to, and therein lies the problem.
It's not say that they can't work perfectly, they can and many do I imagine. The problem is that you're relying on some nondescript, heavily profit motivated Chinese company to regulate itself.
One thing Britain prides itself on are safety standards which have come about by learning hard lessons in the past. Well, the more people import stuff directly from China, the more we go back on them.
They do technically have to conform to safety standards if they are to be imported to/sold in the UK - they should be CE marked to indicate compliance with EU regulations, regardless of country of manufacture. However, obviously this is difficult to regulate and manufacturers can 'self-apply' the CE marking, with some Chinese manufacturers even cheekily labeling their products with 'CE' and claiming it stands for 'Chinese Export'. These chargers are labelled both 'CE' and 'FCC' (to indicate compliance with US regulations), which of course could mean nothing, they're just letters written on plastic, but again these are not complicated devices, they contain such simple components that it would be almost impossible not to meet EU safety standards.

This is a disgusting state of affair if a controller is getting heat at £55.

May be the cheapest and no disrespect to the OP for finding this, good job as some people will need this for themselves or their kids BUT looking back when we were young £15-£30 was the price range we would go to ...

its not the way of the times, its the companies and Execs looking at the games market and feeling how to rip off the consumers to the last penny, this is why i stopped purchasing most stuff now to do with accessories, they are a rip off and once people understand and vote with their wallets the prices will remain lower.

plus its nintendo, Seriously, why do they feel that everything needs to be stupid expensive ALL the time.

Sorry auto-correct, meant to say : good deal OP, nice find

Im not sure we can compare modern controllers to the £15 Megadrive or SNES pads used to cost 25 years ago. plus, you know, inflation.
I distinctly remember the DualShock 4 - with its 5 hour battery life, peeling analog sticks and squeaky triggers - being £54.99 upon release.

This thing has HD rumble, gyro controls, NFC/amiibo functionality, a 50 hour battery life and a really nice build quality. What's the problem?

I think we can safely ignore the people who don't know how much premium controllers cost or why, because they've probably never used one. Some people are happy with a wired Afterglow or a second hand madcatz, it's a personal choice. Excellent reviews for this, and I have the Elite, which was about 100, and also a brilliant piece of kit.

Were you that kid who when you went round to their house you had to use some nasty £10 controller?

Has anyone had their order confirmed yet? Mine still says pending - not sure how long grainger games normally take to process orders.... probably just me being impatient! :)
Leonintelex
Total bargain, I paid £60 and initially thought it was overpriced until I opened the box.
The design is very good and it has a very premium feel to it. Playing BOTW and MK8 is a real pleasure and so much better than the joycons.
The one thing that seals the deal is HD rumble. I can't begin to explain how much better this is than traditional rumble. I was sceptical at first but after playing tumbleweed.. I'm 100% on board. Trust me £55 is cheap, ignore the haters.

..for a Nintendo peripheral maybe, but Nintendo doesn't exist in a vacuum. £55 for a PS4 or XB1 controller wouldn't be a good deal, so I don't regard £55 for this as a good deal, cheapest or not.

Super hot! Cheers OP, ordered.
Paid this on launch for an unbranded glass protector. Brilliant value at this price for a brand. :)
I think this is unfairly going cold, it's a really good price, especially with prime.

There are probably cheaper options, but Spigen accessories are of excellent quality and apply with no fuss. I've used them on every recent smartphone I've had and rate them incredibly highly.

Can't believe this went cold when the next best price is £49.99. I mean I'm not happy about having to buy it again after having it digital+DLC on WiiU but this is a great deal for those of us who want it.
Pretty muc why it went cold, it's a full price re-release, albeit enhanced and a big screw you to anyone loyal enough to buy the full game and all dlc on the wii u as there is no incentive whatsoever for wii u owners to get the switch version, great way to reward loyalty Nintendo (_;)

It just seems messed up to hide a good deal and have people pay the 12.6% higher price because some of us had already bought the original game on WiiU or you would prefer to buy physical.

There is still incentive to re-buy purely to have the game on Switch like I did and the game is reportedly selling better than the original, so why hide the deal and have people who are going to buy it anyway pay more. It's just stupid and petty voting it cold.

fair do's Nintendo know how to take the **** out if their loyal fans. Mario kart 8.1 AND more expensive on digital?! no thanks.
Because Microsoft and Sony always charge less for digital compared to physical

A whole new platform deserved a whole new game, or at least a handful of new GP courses. As someone who's already paid out for mk8 on the wii u I find it difficult to get excited about parting with forty quid for more of the same. You go for gold though by all means.

The best multiplayer kart game ever, yes. The best single-player kart game would still be Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (PC version). (_;)

People sit and complain about consoles being not up to their standard, well how about you spend years building every inch of it to try make it good for your fans, because I can guarantee you'd do half the job if even any of it, these people work their asses off to produce this, give them some credit because you couldn't do any of it ❤️

Does the average poster in HUKD threads criticising/defending brands and products strike you as an expert constructor of electronic devices?

Calm yourself Beryl, what a bizarre comment oO

Surprise surprise the Nintendo Defence League are still obsessively talking about the Switch's handheld credentials as regards it's lack of power when compared to Playstation and Xbox.
...and the two year old Nvidia Shield on which Switch is based! Both mobile devices feature the same old Nvidia Tegra X1 processor and while Shield runs at the full clockspeed, Switch, despite being a more recent product released at a premium price, is massively downclocked even in docked mode.

You're spouting mainstream console propaganda Kirst, thus your skewed opinion stating technical spec facts are not welcome in here (_;)

Who cares about these console/pc fan wars. The thing is selling out still and really gaming should be judged on enjoyment not technical specs.
Selling out still, erm seen it in lots of places be it online or the high street so I'm sorry it's hardly the Ocarina of Time Link Amiibo is it?
Hate to break this to ya but when you're releasing a new console three and half years after your current competition it should have at the very least the same amount of 'va va voom' but in reality it should have loads more horse power.
I bought a Wii U and I loved many of it's games, I still do, but I'm sorry I don't see this as a step forward and no doubt in time I shall buy one but I refuse point blank till there are more games, till there's a bundle with a decent game I don't already own and a pro controller for this sort of money.
No doubt you or one of the rabid Nintendo Fans who loiter around in these threads to defend the Mushroom Kingdom will lob the old chestnut in of "you'll be waiting a long time then" (_;) well not a problem as I'm a patient kind of fella, if that bundle don't materialise then I won't become a Switch owner, it's awfully straight forward.
Selling out on the same day apparently according to gamestop. Its exceeding expectations: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-05-01-switch-shipments-selling-out-same-day-gamestop
I don't own a switch, I never bought the Wii-U so I'm hardly a rabid Nintendo fan lurking. I don't actually know what amibos are or do. :P
I mostly choose to just game on Xbox one these days. Nintendo's last 3 consoles have never been about pure technical power, they have always been about the games. I do wish Nintendo would make a more conventional console but that's not their way and really we have xbone and ps4 so maybe its good to see something different.
Like you I plan to pick up a Switch at a later date.

I think you'll find my wording did completely dissect you from the HUKD division of the NDL if you wish to look at it again, I have managed to upset all 'da mushroom mass-if' in here so I do know you're not someone I recognise as one of them.

That article is not about everywhere, yes it's doing well across the pond in septicville, it's doing well in Japan but that is their manor after all and as someone else said above it's doing well across the channel in Juncker's Euroland, namely Mutti Merkel's region.

I can confirm having lived in Germany and Austria there is almost toxic hate towards Xbox by a significant amount of gamers, many a time you hear them talking about the "English and their Xboxes" with genuine disdain.......it's all about Sony and Nintendo round that neck of the woods.

It has clearly had a better start than the Wii U did, of that there is no doubt but it seems we are already getting chatter from 3rd party devs saying it's not really what they expected and we're probably ending up at Nintendo being totally reliant on in-house titles to sell the system to the punters.

That policy did not work too well for them with the Wii U did it, and of course the Nintendo Fans will say it's all about Nintendo's own IP's and yeah I get that myself BUT the vast majority of consumers don't. The types that only buy one console do so for the sort of games the Switch won't have, my life even the FIFA game coming is meant to be PS3 spec. They also quite possibly look at it as an option for another DVD/Blu-Ray player, in the case of the Xbone S a 4K/UHD one, which again Nintendo have chosen not to pursue.

Contrary to popular belief I am not anti Nintendo merely anti their persistent inexplicable corporate policies and anti their lala fanboys/girls, only time will tell if the Switch becomes the roaring success the lovers predict or the abject failure the haters do.

What you're asking for is impossible though. The Switch has a custom Tegra X1, that's a top of the line mobile chip. Assuming Nintendo want to keep to the hybrid concept, for it to match the processing power of the PS4/X1 in an affordable portable small factor would have meant they'd have had to steal some tech from the future.

You nailed everything with hybrid concept, Nintendo always has to have some gimmick concept or other when a current gen fully powered standard console with standard control accessories would be just fine.

It's why since the launch of the original Wii they've alienated so many gamers, the casuals have moved on to Candy Crush and My Smurf Village so all that's left is the hard core Nintendo Fans who would still claim it's all about enjoyment and the uniqueness of Nintendo's IP's had the Switch been a 1991 Gameboy (_;)

It isn't a custom Tegra X1 it is the off the shelf chip without customisation and has already been pointed out it runs much slower than the chip is capable of. 150 gflops is the normal gpu performance for portable mode with 200 gflops for a fast portable mode (likely Zelda is using) and then there is 384 gflops for docked but the chip is capable of up to 500 gflops. There cpu's are run at half speed too, 1ghz instead of 2ghz even in docked mode. It most definitely is a powerful portable though, at least 3x the gpu power of vita, 4x with the boost mode. It's there abouts, about the performance of ps3/360, a bit less here, a bit more there but that is its performance level but as a portable. I doubt it will ever get the range of impressive games those consoles got, they had the best developers who have since moved on to ps4 and xbox one except for Nintendo themselves of course who will probably provide the majority of must have games for the system. As a wii u owner I guess I'm disappointed that Nintendo is now 2 generations behind its competitors when it comes to a home console (I don't do portable gaming as much nowadays), Switch is only a marginal upgrade on wii u and effectively the Switch delivers as a home console what PS3 and 360 delivered back in 2005/6 over 10 years ago. Games like Mario Kart and Zelda BOTW are often better emulated on pc with 4k resolution and 60fps, it's a much better experience emulated than on Nintendo hardware.

Hot from me. Thanks, just what I needed after a lightning strike took out two ports of my last one..
I'm using Hikvision cameras like THIS
I thinking of getting one of those to see what they are like and then order another if the range and angle is fine for my needs.
Are you using a NVR in your set-up? If so, which one.
Do you encounter any bandwidth issues on the rest of your network? I ordered a Hikvision NVR without PoE built in from a recent deal on here but now I am concerned whether I should have ordered one with some PoE ports.
Originally I planned to put the NVR in the loft but now I've read that is probably not a suitable place. Maybe the PoE switch would be okay there as I had a plug socket fitted up there ages ago. Then just run a cable to the NVR. Need to think of somewhere to hide the NVR but near to a power socket.

Great cameras, excellent quality, I am running two of these into a Synology NAS running their surveillance software.
Good night quality as well, I live out in the country so when it is dark it is pitch black.

I have never noticed any bandwidth problems on my network, I am running a NETGEAR GS724T-400EUS as my main switch.

Why is it very special?
I have this too. Plenty of power sockets for my TV setup, hides nicely behind my TV unit.
Good price but the price on these from CPC are up and down like a yo yo so worth keeping an eye out if every penny counts and your not in any hurry.

Heat added.
I use one of these for my TV/AV setup it works well and is well made. Having switches is a nice touch....

For me, saving £30 isn't worth the hassle of opening a credit account.
Takes like 2 seconds and can pay with Paypal anyway...
I think you're on the wrong site if saving money isn't your thing.

It's more the fact you have a credit account to your name. If they let you pay directly with debit card I'd be all over this, but would rather not have a credit account tied to my name, especially given I'll be looking for a mortgage in a few months.

I imagine that the vast majority of HUKD'ers either already have a Very account, have been refused one, or don't want one.

This means these type of deals with this "new customer" offer apply to "Very" few people.

I got my order in and I'm happy. I don't care if this gets down voted into oblivion.

Did this last time and paid via PayPal instead of credit account and it worked.
I got one before launch too because I was sure I would hate the joycons and never play in handheld mode... turns out I've only plugged into the dock twice and played exclusively handheld mode with my pro controller collecting dust :D
At least got it for cheap with this deal though and to be fair it is a really nice controller.
Use mine on the tv for zelda best way to play.
Sat in work at the mo playing 3 player Mario kart. A joycon each and 1 pro controller.

Pro pad is much easier for Mario Kart to be honest, I rarely use the thing in docked mode but have been doing it more recently.

Sometimes I can't be bothered with the pad or docked so I just use the thing in handheld mode :P

I bought one last time. I got sent the wrong model, but that was quickly rectified by their very good (British) customer services. It works well for standard plugs, but I was unable to fill all the sockets because most of my equipment uses over-sized adapters instead of standard sized plugs. It was bought for my computer desk but I had to go back to my straight 6-way extension. Voted hot despite this.
Is a tower one an option for you? I bought a couple of ten way surge protected tower ones from CPC a while back, the sockets are angled with five on each side of the tower, so virtually any mains plug will go into them fine without restricting other sockets. Only issue I have with my tower ones is not individually switched, but you can get versions that are they just weren't cheap at the time I bought.
I might be able to get the tower to work but the desk has a false back to hide the cables, so in front would show all the cables and behind would be very difficult to plug in or unplug. The smaller tower could be an option, but ideally as the other poster mentioned, a straight 8-way is really what I want. Having said that I'm not desperate, I went for this because it was cheap and I liked the individual lights and switches.

I'm tempted to buy this. It's a lot of dosh £33 seems mental, but quality engineering, well designed for avoiding a jungle of cables very highly rated by owners.https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71WtAFMVsDL._SL1500_.jpg

I like that but £33 is a bit much.
Good deal, heat added, Be aware though that fitting 8 plugs on it depends on the shape of the plugs. I bought one for my external hard drives and found that once 4 were plugged in along the bottom none could be plugged in along the top as they clashed. It's a shame you can't get 8-gang individually switched surge protected in a continuous strip, 6 is the maximum it seems then you have to go for this design or the towers.
I'm not sure I'm a pro elec fan. Had just a 3way switched adapter from CPC and I heard it sizzling one day. Luckily I heard it.

nintendo switch logo Introducing the Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch arrived on March 1st 2017. After years of anticipation, the successor to the popular Wii U had finally arrived, but has it lived up to the hype? There’s no doubt that the Switch is an imaginative, ground-breaking gaming system, with a completely revamped controller and some of the best motion capture systems ever seen.

This buyer’s guide should help you decide whether the Nintendo Switch is the games console for you, and how to find the biggest Nintendo Switch savings.

Nintendo Switch: Impressive Entertainment at Home and On the Go

Nintendo has been releasing home entertainment products for over thirty years. Starting with the Game and Watch in 1980, they released the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1985, the handheld Gameboy in 1989, then the Super Nintendo (SNES) in 1991. The Nintendo 64 followed in 1996, the Gameboy Colour in 1998, then the Gameboy Advance and the GameCube in 2001. But it was the unveiling of the Nintendo Wii in 2006 that really laid the foundations for the Nintendo Switch.

The Wii Remote was the first mainstream system to offer motion capture technology, enabling users to play tennis or join virtual exercise classes. It was followed by the Wii U in 2012, which refined the technology, making it more powerful and rivalling Sony and Microsoft’s systems in terms of graphical power.

Finally, in 2015 Nintendo announced that the Wii U would be replaced by the ‘NX’. It took a further two years of refinement and development until the Nintendo Switch arrived, representing a blend between handheld and home-based gaming systems that had never been seen before.

How Does the Nintendo Switch Work?

What do Nintendo mean when they say that the Switch is a hybrid system? Isn’t the Switch just another games console with a handheld controller that hooks up to your TV screen?

Actually, it’s quite different. The Nintendo Switch has three main elements that make it unlike any other home entertainment console.

The console itself is the first element. This can be hooked up to a normal TV and used like a Wii or a PlayStation. However, this isn’t the only way it can be used. If you want to use it with your TV, you can attach the console to the second element, the docking station. But it can also be used like a tablet anywhere you like (though you’ll need to charge it periodically).

The third element in the Nintendo Switch package is the Joy-Con controller. This peripheral isn’t like anything gamers have seen before. The standard direction pad and buttons are familiar, but the way that the Joy-Con attaches to the side of the console is less ordinary. By attaching the Joy-Con, users can turn the mobile console into a gaming tablet of incredible power. At the same time, the Joy-Con is adapted for wireless control and motion capture, and provides some of the most impressive tactile feedback yet experienced. It can also be connected to a grip accessory, turning it into a normal gamepad. It’s an impressively versatile piece of engineering.

Nintendo have come up with three different ways to use their console, all of them with different needs in mind:

  • TV mode - With the Switch attached via an HDMI cable to any standard flat screen TV.
  • Handheld mode - With the Joy-Cons attached to the side of the console, allowing you to play your favourite games wherever you go.

By now, the hybrid nature of the Nintendo Switch should be fairly clear. For the first time, a system can be played on large flat-screen TVs, both with wireless motion capture controllers and standard gamepads, or taken around the home as a mobile tablet. In theory, this makes the Switch a promising gaming platform and a worthy successor to the Wii range, but do its specifications back up the imaginative thinking that created it?

How Does Nintendo Switch Online Work?

Using the Nintendo Switch also has an important online element: The Nintendo Switch Online Ordering Service which arrives in autumn 2017, with trials starting from March 2017.

If you intend to enjoy multiplayer games on your Switch, this is the service for you. Initially free of charge if you have a Nintendo Account, it will become a paid subscription after formally launching, and you can expect to find plenty of Nintendo Switch Online offers at HotUKDeals when this becomes a reality.

Additionally, Nintendo Switch Online features a few bonuses for users to sweeten the deal. For example, it will feature a smartphone app, enabling users to organise gaming sessions with their friends. You will also get a free SNES or NES retro-download every month, as well as exclusive offers on Nintendo Switch content; so it will probably be worth signing up.

Nintendo Switch: Basic Specifications

As with all gaming systems, hardcore players will want to know a little about what’s inside the Nintendo Switch before handing over any cash. With that in mind, here are some of the key specifications:nintendo switch console

  • Dimensions: 10.2 x 23.9 x 1.39cm (when the Joy-Con controllers are attached to the sides of the console)
  • Weight: 297g
  • Screen resolution: 1280x720p, capacitive touchscreen
  • Screen size: 6.2 inches
  • Memory: 32GB
  • CPU: Customised NVIDIA Tegra processor
  • Connectivity: Wi-fi IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1
  • Max video output: 1920x1080 at 60 fps (TV mode), 1280x720 (Tablet mode)
  • Connections: USB type-C, Stereo out, HDMI, Nintendo Switch game card slot
  • Battery life: Over 6 hours, with a 3-hour charging period

These specifications compare well with other consoles on the market, although Nintendo haven’t been forthcoming with detailed information about the CPU and GPU speeds. For example, the PS4 Pro has 8GB of RAM, well below the Nintendo Switch (and weighs about 3.3kg - much heavier). The only shortcomings of the Switch tend to be in terms of graphical performance. You can expect the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S to outperform it when handling first person shooters and other demanding titles. However, as these aren’t a staple of Nintendo’s range this probably won’t be a deal breaker.

What Nintendo Switch Bundles are Available?

Nintendo hasn’t just released its innovative new console onto the market on its own. Buyers can choose between a range of different bundles when making their purchase and it’s important to choose one that fits your budget and needs. Here are the major options:

  • The Basic Nintendo Switch Bundle - Comes with the Nintendo Switch console, the docking station and the Joy-Con controllers, and is available in grey or with blue and red Joy-Cons.
  • Legend of Zelda Bundles - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most exciting Switch releases, and is included in bundles of its own. If you want to save money on one of the console’s leading games, it makes sense to purchase a themed bundle which will often come with extra controllers and accessories like carry cases and screen protectors.
  • Mario Kart Bundles - Mario Kart Deluxe 8 is another exciting title (and great for families who want a fun multiplayer game to start with). Again, you can find bundles with extra controllers, which may be a good choice if you have a large group of children (or friends) who will want a piece of the action.
  • 1-2-Switch Bundles - 1-2-Switch is a great introduction to the features of the Joy-Con controller, as well as being a lot of fun. If you want to get the most out of your console and learn the ropes quickly, a bundle featuring the game could be just what you need.zelda breath of the wild

Always remember to shop around for bundles before making a purchase. Just because titles are bundled with the console doesn’t mean that you are guaranteed a good price. Often, you’ll find that buying the basic console is far cheaper. Then, by hunting around at the HotUKDeals listings, you can find cut-price deals on games like Zelda or Mario Kart, allowing you to pay far less than you would for normal bundles. So shop smart, and don’t be impulsive. You’ll probably find deals for the products you need if you look around.

Highlights from the Nintendo Switch Gaming Range

One of the key things about any console is the range of games available for it. But how does the Nintendo Switch measure up on this score? There are certainly some exciting games either available or on the horizon. Here are some of the favourites right now:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Zelda is a beloved Nintendo franchise and one of the most famous RPG series in history. The most recent incarnation sees Link battling against nemesis Calamity Ganon across a massive game world. In Breath of the Wild, Link has more terrain and dungeons to explore, more people to meet, enemies to vanquish and quests to complete than ever before. Universally praised, it’s one of 2017’s essential games and you can only purchase it for the Nintendo Switch or the Wii U. It’s a great reason for non-Nintendo owners to invest in a Switch. However, if you are a Wii U owner, there might be less urgency. Both versions are graphically similar and offer the same vast game world.
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Mario and Luigi have been locked in racing contests ever since the first Mario Kart emerged for the SNES in 1991, and every version has offered new features and innovations. The 8th version was actually released for the Wii U in 2014, but Nintendo have produced a ‘Deluxe’ version for the Switch with extra courses, vehicles, weapons and a new battle mode.
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - A gaming sensation since its release in 2011, Skyrim is coming to the Nintendo Switch and promises to make the most of its immersive controls and mobile gaming capabilities. Now, when you enter the Elder Scrolls universe, you can continue to play whether you are on the beach, on the train or in your bed. With months of gameplay on offer, Skryim will surely be a Nintendo Switch essential.
  • Super Mario Odssey - One of the Top games is another exclusive title to the Nintendo Switch. In Super Mario Odyssey, Mario leaves the Mushroom kingdom and explores in sandbox-style the Nintendo world.

Super Mario Odyssey: Trailer

Those are three of the most eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch titles and more are in the pipeline, including strategy games like Constructor, platformers like 1001 Spikes, and racing games like Fast RMX. However, while there’s a long list of scheduled releases, the actual selection of Nintendo Switch games is very small. Beyond Zelda and 1-2-Switch, very few games have been made available as yet, leading to sharp criticism of Nintendo’s development policies.

When the trickle of games becomes a flood (mid to late 2017), the Nintendo Switch will come into its own, with a focus on high quality RPGs, puzzle games, sports titles and racing games. But until then, it may be sensible for Wii U, PlayStation or Xbox owners to hold off. All their systems have massive game libraries and a continuing stream of releases. Even if they aren’t as technically innovative as the Nintendo Switch, that’s a big plus.

For Wii U owners, it’s also important to note that the Switch is not backwards compatible with your console. This means that your lovingly assembled collection of games won’t work on your new system and you’ll have to wait for new titles to arrive (or keep two consoles working in parallel, a clumsy solution).

3DS owners might also be thinking about making the "Switch" to Nintendo's new console. Should they do so? Possibly, but Nintendo has made it clear that the Switch is not designed to be a 3DS replacement. The 3DS is more compact, has better battery life and is lighter - all of which make it preferable for mobile gaming. So, if you already have a 3DS and only really use it on the move, the Switch won't really make sense unless you have the money and desire to use both simultaneously.

What Kind of People Will the Nintendo Switch Appeal To?

This is the really important question, but it’s not yet an easy one to answer. Why not yet? Because the full potential of the Nintendo Switch hasn’t become clear. It could be widely embraced and lead to a revolution in home and mobile gaming, or it could be shunned and overwhelmed by new Xbox or Sony systems.

Assuming the Nintendo Switch performs as well as the Wii and Wii U, it will almost certainly be ideal for families with younger children. Nintendo’s titles are always pitched at younger gamers, with less violence and gore and accessible gameplay. They are also usually excellent multiplayer experiences, making the Nintendo Switch a possible focal point for group family fun.

If you are the kind of gamer who lusts after death matches and multiplayer carnage, the PS4 Pro or Xbox One S could be a better fit. There’s little chance of games like Resident Evil or Call of Duty carrying over to the Switch, or similarly adrenaline-fuelled games being developed.

Graphically, the Nintendo style won’t appeal to everyone either. For some fans, Link and Mario are like members of the family. For others, cartoony visuals and quirky sound effects won’t cut it. Make sure you are the kind of person who is in tune with Nintendo’s aesthetic before making a purchase.

Accessories to Enhance Your Nintendo Switch Experience

One of the important things to recognise about the Nintendo Switch is the importance of accessories. You simply can’t get everything out of the system unless you have a set of Joy-Con controllers, the docking station and the cables needed to hook everything together, and not all of these accessories are included in basic bundles. Here are some vital accessories that all Nintendo Switch purchasers will want to think about:

  • The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller - Essentially a classic-style gamepad, the Pro Controller may be useful for experienced gamers who can’t get to grips with the Joy-Con system. Includes advanced rumble and motion capture technology, making it fully compatible with the latest Switch titles.
  • Joy-Con Charging Grips - This handy accessory allows to clip together the left and right Joy-Cons, and also allows you to charge those controllers during play - ideal for long RPG exploration sessions.
  • Joy-Con Straps - These wrist straps attach to the Joy-Con controller, making it easier to handle and protect from damage during games that rely on motion capture.
  • Carrying Cases - The Nintendo Switch console can be vulnerable to scratches and damage, particularly when you use it extensively as you travel. The Nintendo Carry Case provides excellent padding for users to need to play as they move.
  • The Joy-Con Wheel - This handy controller allows you to place your Joy-Con controllers in a steering wheel which you can then use in Mario Kart Deluxe or other racing titles, adding a whole new gaming dimension.

These accessories aren’t always cheap to purchase. If you buy a basic package, you can easily run up large bills by adding extra accessories on an ad hoc basis, so try to find combo deals or bundles that save money. There should be plenty to choose from at the HotUKDeals Nintendo Switch listings.

How and When to Make Your Nintendo Switch Purchase

If you’ve made up your mind to buy a Nintendo Switch, the next step is the crucial one: finding the very best deals around. It’s easy to pay over the odds for gaming consoles, even from reputable companies, so be careful when you choose your bundle.

The first place to look is the Nintendo website, not to make a purchase, but to double check that the Nintendo Switch meets your needs. When you’re certain that it will cut it, head over to the HotUKDeals Nintendo Switch listings, where you will find the latest deals from the UK’s largest gaming companies.

You’ll see Nintendo Switch bundles from GAME, Currys, Tesco, Amazon sellers, eBay merchants, Very and Smyths - with grey and coloured versions all available to choose from. Check for cheap Zelda bundles as well, as you can save plenty of money by buying the console and the game together.

Remember to search for bundles with the right mix of accessories as well. If you want to play with five people, you’ll need extra Joy-Con controllers. If you intend to spend hours on Mario Kart Deluxe, the steering wheel could be essential. Shop around, wait a few days and see which deals come up. You’ll probably find a saving that cuts the price of upgrading to the Nintendo Switch.

However, you may also want to delay for longer. Black Friday in November is always a great time to find gaming deals. By then the range of Nintendo Switch games will be far higher, while the online multiplayer service will have started up as well. If you are upgrading from a Wii U, autumn could be the cheapest and best time to do so.

Either way, you’ll find a constant stream of the very best Nintendo Switch discounts when you bookmark the console’s HotUKDeals listings.
