Are these those 'Sharp tap' to open safes?
I think thats on some of the electronic ones, not sure if the same trick works on these.
You could Belt one of these with a hammer and still wouldn't open it. Really good for the price.

I would keep your money and save it for a better one like "chubb" as these cheap safe's are so easy to get into!
And your insurance companies are more likely to favour a more recognisable brand.
I wouldn`t tell my insurance company anything as they only use it as an excuse not to pay out.
Can you link to a better one that you recommend
http://www.chubbsafes.com/select-your-safe
If your going for one just remember the heavier it is the less likely they are to carry it off and don't go for the ones with the digital keys they are easily hacked or even the batteries in them die!
Sorry guys at the end of the day you get what you pay for.

+1. The heavier, the better.

Protip. A lot of the time the ones in the rooms they forget to reset the backup unlock code of 0 0 0 0 on the digital ones. Hopefully that'll save you from lugging around a safe on holiday!
Thanks, will give that a try

A pro thief told me he loves to see people having a small safe in their house, don't need to look around, just take the whole thing.

So buy a safe as a decoy, put a brick in it for them to take and carry on hiding things under my mattress?

well I keep only old cheque book in my one not any valuables but it's there so look 4 nothing else and nowhere else....
And on top of nothing pricy in there it will take good 30 minutes to pull it off the wall but best of luck

Put a brick in it, leave it somewhere obvious. Thought you were getting gold? Enjoy your £18 safe that you probably destroyed in the process of getting it open.... Wish you'd grabbed the TV now? hahaha

Cant believe i keep falling for this. I got so many bricks now :-(

So we were burgled a few weeks ago. They ran around the house with a metal detector looking for Jewellery and safes... everything I didn't put in the safe but in a plastic box was left behind as they took the safe thinking they had the jackpot.
So unless you plan on bolting safes to the floor (in which case you are probably invited them to come back better prepared in the future as they now know the layout of your house) - I'd stay clear of safes, unless its just to store stuff away from nosey house-mates

Have used these forever and can't fault them.

I know it's not an option, but it does show Corelle is expensive because it's a US import, not because it's super quality.16 piece set £25 on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Corelle-Livingware-16-Piece-Dinnerware-Service/dp/B0000DASUA/ref=sr_1_3?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1457945542&sr=1-3&keywords=dinnerware+set.
I haven't had a thorough look to see if there's US options but tried a few. The set I like, Memphis, Amazon US sells for approx £30 + over £20 P&P, then import taxes on top! Comes to just over £70! I'd assume ebay US would lump import taxes on at checkout too.

Can't comment on the quality but there's a lot of great reviews out there. Some are hinting that now World Kitchen own Corelle, versus Corning, the plates may have a slightly different formulation/manufacture method (?) but other reviewers dispute this. World Kitchen state that some of their designs are for the Asian market, so for those, the base plates are made in the USA, and the designs applied in Malaysia. Maybe that's where the confusion comes from.

Argos don't mention the 3 Year Guarantee Corelle offer (doesn't apply to the stoneware mugs, though), but I'd assume it applies to every customer. Much more variety on Amazon US, but you'd expect that.

The only thing that concerns me is that the dinner plates may be a tad small, re the comment earlier in the thread.

"The original break and chip resistant glass dinnerware. Trust that it can stand up to the rigors of everyday life and still look great. 3 year replacement warranty against breaking and chipping!
Corelle takes pride in its manufacturing excellence. Vitrelle glass is made and thoroughly quality tested in the USA in Corning, NY. Corelle is manufactured with nearly 70% of recycled glass. Additionally the design pigments used are food safe and FDA approved."

I'll add this from Amazon US too, as it sums up Corelle nicely in illustrations:
http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/aplusautomation/vendorimages/a20c1027-a049-491d-9901-fdd68235109a._CB320680134__SL220__.jpg
3 layers of Vitrelle Glass
The 3 layers of glass are thermally bonded together by laminating a top and bottom layer of clear skin glass to a core center layer, which creates dinnerware that’s lightweight but strong, thin but nonporous.

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/aplusautomation/vendorimages/01da2be4-3ce2-4553-8dfc-c3b2f7fe5a40._CB320680128__SL220__.jpg
Break & Chip Resistant
Vitrelle is a unique, tempered glass that is resistant against breaks & chips. The special glass makes versatile Corelle dinnerware as thin and translucent as fine china, yet dramatically stronger.

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/aplusautomation/vendorimages/96b57337-2779-44d0-8eff-0fff3e1b5f67._CB320680153__SL220__.jpg
Space Saving
Vitrelle is lightweight and thinner than typical ceramic plates—when stacked, Corelle takes up less space in cabinets than conventional ceramic plates and bowls.

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/aplusautomation/vendorimages/68ab0f2b-43cf-4ac5-8a5a-8e9cc728bdea._CB320680144__SL220__.jpg
Microwave Safe
Vitrelle is microwave safe and even safe for oven use up to 350 degrees

I wouldn't bother with a safe, the thieves would know exactly where to look, unless you keep it as a decoy, in that case it's perfect, keep your valuables stashed under the carpet and let the thieves run off with £60 worth of metal.

Now we all know where to look!

Do the switches control the USB ports or are they permanently on racking up even more profit for the energy companies? I've answered my own question by looking at the pictures,as ReflexReact states they are permanently on.

British General 822U-01 2 Gang 13A Switched SP Socket with 2 x USB

Features:

2 gang switched socket with outboard rockers
2 x Type A USB sockets - 2.1A total output, 5V
Stylish modern profile
Covers to conceal fixing screws
Colour coded terminals with backed out captive screws for easy installation
Twin earth fitted as standard
Supplied with optional 10mm spacer for 25mm box retrofit
USB charger stand-by power made when not in use

They go into standby mode when not in use, which i would imagine uses no or VERY little power when not in use.
I would think they will be "on" as in available all the time but only using any significant leccy when current is being drawn, i.e. when you plug in a device to charge.

...so light enough for somebody to carry it from your property & break into it at their convenience, as long as they can remove the safe from wherever it is attached. Given the external dimensions (250 x 350 x 250mm), I expect that would not be too much of a job with the correct tool.

Mind you, if there was a flood or a fire, & you needed to open the safe to retrieve the contents quickly, being able to remove it from the mounted position may be a benefit.

If submerged in water, fingerprint recognition to gain entry may prove useless anyway.

u can't open with a bang on the top unless u got superpowers he or she talking crap I got one ane they work fine theve got 2 steel rods that go through them when locked. for 20 pounds awesome buy even if u just keep it in a place where you would think of looking mine is under the sink loli keep my passport and keys to my car if u got diamonds and gold ect obviously get a better safe but its a hot from me as I tried banging it and I just hurt my hand lol dont listen wot everyone puts on here try for urself.
Not just this, get a sewing pin and theres holes in the bottom, and can put it through there and reset the safe
Or just get one of those dummy electrical sockets? No one will look for it let alone find it. Surely that's better. Either that or get both. Leave the safe empty and they will steal that be too late when they find out it's empty. Lol.
What goods a safe when you can just pick it up & walk off? lol
So its a double blind, you leave it empty all but for a tracker ergo valuables are safe but thief lair is found.

I had a small safe like this one at home. Guess what was the first thing the burglars took? :|

Hope you didn't lose anything of to greater sentimental value? Out of interest, was it secured to the floor/wall,did you make an insurance claim? Did they payout?

Nothing of sentimental value. It was on my table serving as a private space as my drawers don't have locks fitted. I had my cheque books, credit cards, etc. in there so in terms of value I did not lose very much so not much to claim.

My point was that you need to think what you are going to use this for first. If you are going to put valuables in it you must first think about an ingenious way of hiding it because as I said before if the burglars find it, owing to its light weight, it would be the first thing they will take with them. They would then have enough time afterwards to break into it. If you insist on using it for valuables, put a cheap mobile with good battery life in using the sim inside it as the tracking device! (_;)

Any sub-100kg safe is worthless without being bolted down. Any sub-500kg safe should be bolted down.

I received mine yesterday. It is an unbranded beige safe with no manufacturer logo anywhere. The Amazon listing doesn't state its branded. The photo on HUKD is not the same as the Amazon photo, look at the latch bolts, they are more robust on the HUKD photo. Seems reasonable quality for the price however the back panel in particular seems extremely thin and easily flexes to the touch. There is no mention, not sure if their should be about £1k cash or £10 valuables protection. Paint seems poor the one I received was chipped around the key hole prior to use.

I searched around and found the little safe company also trade on ebay & amazon
This safe is not the Rottner safe as in the above description and title

the following are links to both safes to look at.

this unbranded safe is the deal

the following is the link to the Rottner branded safe at a higher price.

they look similar and both have similar ratings

Gary sounded like a nice fella didn't he?
I see they should have been £1,581.00, not £1.58!! Gary from the company said they were victims of a scam......

I bought mine from a Tesco store, down from 50 to £30. Very occasionally they have them at Lidl or Aldi (not seen for a while)

be careful to buy the one that's "media safe", the standard ones are only good for paper and won't protect CDs, DVDs and tapes.

That's a very good point, while this suggests you can store media in it in Amazon's description, they call it a document safe, and according to the Sentry website this is NOT suitable for storing plastic media.

Fire proof for half an hour, how long does a typical house fire last?

Depends how much petrol is used ;-)
Polly_P;8636296
Not really, say the safe is in your bedroom and the first starts in the kitchen, the fire may be out before it gets to the bedroom, its better then all your important stuff burning :)

Well if the fire is out before it gets to the bedroom my stuff would be safe anyway.
Broadsword;8636257
Yeah still available just out of stock.

Fire proof for half an hour, how long does a typical house fire last?

Seems a waste of time if that is the case.

Why would a thief come on hotukdeals when they never buy anything, just steal?

So they can look at things to steal!
all though there is a small chance of abuse this is extremelly unlikely as the software is open source so if someone wanted to abuse the software someone would have to approve the updates to the software coding that would enable abuse. i think the chance of getting your hardware back outweigh the software being abused:

See http://www.geek.com/articles/apple/thieves-caught-on-stolen-macbook-webcam-20080513/

The software in the bcc article is different to the prey software as one is controlled by an admin and the other is controlled by the user so that kind of abuse would be impossible unless as stated it is written into teh coding - which i think would never happen
An example of it's (mis)use: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/8523807.stm

Not sure if this is the software or not - but the idea is the same
shadowdogg;7924613
The ironic thing is by you guys publcising this - you've just totally reduced its chances of being useful.

Why would a thief come on hotukdeals when they never buy anything, just steal?
royals;7921554
exactly but i have no sympathy for the poor sap unless they paid market or near market rate for a half decent laptop......if someone paid £20 for a laptop, they should be charged too as they MUST know that £20 for a laptop is cheap and must have been stolen
as for burglars they are just pure lowlife scum....i hope out of all the stuff they stole from me they snort it up their nose and suffer a slow and painful death...lucky for them i wasnt in

Scum yes, but at least they gain from the burglary. What I really can't stand are mindless vandals who cause misery and destruction and do not even financially profit themselves.

When it comes to accidents that could put your precious little one in real danger, having the right safety knowledge is all-important. Our Babysafe courses are back for 2009! Call now on 01733 385174 to secure a place.
Celebrity mum Terri Dwyer gives her support to the campaign

http://www.tesco.com/assets/babyclub/content/images/body_images/babysafe_content.jpg Actress and TV presenter Terri Dwyer, third left, launches Tesco Baby & Toddler Club BabySafe campaign. Geoff Caddick/PA.

For the past two years, Tesco Baby & Toddler Club has been working tirelessly to improve the first aid skills of parents and carers through our free BabySafe seminar programme. Over 3,000 mums and dads have taken part.
This year, celebrity mum, Terri Dwyer, has teamed up with Tesco Baby & Toddler Club to launch its BabySafe campaign.
Terri says: “As a parent, you never know what can happen so attending a first-aid course, whether to update or learn new skills, is a must-do for anyone who cares for a baby. The Tesco Baby & Toddler Club BabySafe programme, which teaches these valuable skills for free, is a great initiative.”
The FREE BabySafe seminars have been especially designed to help parents cope with babies and young children in emergency first-aid situations.
About the seminars

Each seminar covers a range of different life-saving techniques including basic resuscitation, what to do if a child is choking, dealing with burns and scalds, spotting the signs of meningitis as well as car-seat safety advice.
The two-hour course also includes a practical session with RLSS volunteers, enabling participants to try out their skills on dummy babies and children. So if you require a refresher course or simply feel you lack confidence in emergency first-aid, please do join us!

From November until the end of March, eight FREE BabySafe seminars will be held at select towns throughout the UK. Everyone who attends will receive a free ‘goody bag’ packed with useful products and a free life-saving skills DVD.
Each workshop runs from 7.00pm to 9.00pm with a break for refreshments.
Mum and dads love it!

Everyone who has been to one of these events has said that they would recommend it to friends and family – so we hope to see you there.
Here’s just a few things some mums said about our last BabySafe events.
“Very, useful & informative. An enjoyable evening.” Lynne Greenfield (Tyne & Wear)
“Brilliant…the manner of the evening was lovely & they put you at ease. I came away with a good knowledge of techniques which I learnt from the hands on approach part of the seminar.” Claire Kirby (Northumberland)
“Really useful, especially the hands on experience. Feel like I’m more likely going to remember what to do, than if I’d just read about it.” Katie Danuar (North Humberside).
How to register

Below are the dates and locations of the eight BabySafe Workshops. Each location has a two-digit selection code. All you need to do is call 01733 385174 and punch in your selection code relevant to the area and location of the workshop for you and whoever you would like to go along with you. If you have a Tesco Clubcard, please have your Clubcard number ready for the end of the call.

Very much doubt it. You also have to find a suitable place to put it - out of sight but with something secure to hitch it to. I've had something similar to this for about a year now, unfitted as seats don't have enough space to put it underneath and everywhere else it can be seen (estate car). If it can be seen you might as well have a big sign saying 'valuables here, go home and come back with bolt cutters!'
