Can't seem to find anyone local (I'm in Glasgow) and asked about half a dozen repair places who flat out refused even if I provided the parts. I've had a couple of quotes from online repair places. One quoted £99 and the other quoted £48 - but with a possible 4 week turnaround which puts me off.

Surely for that kind of price, you may as well just buy a new one!?

That's exactly what I'm thinking! Thankfully it's still usable at least! Might even order the replacement screen and have a go at repairing it myself and order a new phone too. All going well my mum can have the spare - she's still on an iPhone 3GS. Seriously.

I bought this after seeing this deal. Anyway, my dog knocked it off the table yesterday and after it initially seeming fine (no cracks, working normally) I'm having some screen issues (lines and discolouration) and I've decided that a replacement screen is the only way forward however I'm struggling to find anyone who will attempt this.

Has anyone found anywhere that will replace their Note 3 screen?

i would imagine you MIGHT find someone local (that's how I read your request) if you had the parts.

seems tough to get hold of the right screen.

check out XDA where someone has linked to a couple of sites where you can get the screen.

I am wanting to buy this... what case and film did you buy to protect your phone? I have a virgin sim would it work with a virgin sim do you know? Thank you x
I brought the case and screen protector that you can purchase direct from Ali express with the phone. This phone is different to other note 3's because it's the global version and slightly bigger than the standard note 3. I believe it will work with all UK sims as all the bands are covered. I have both Vodafone and three sims in mine and they both work flawlessly. Hope this helps
Thank for you getting back to me... i jamp in with two feet... arrives in 21 days or so!
This case and tempered glass screen protector fit and are well reviewed. I haven't received them yet as ordered after the phone so can't comment on quality yet.

Voted hot but does it have NFC and will it work with O2? If not, anyone know cheapest Chinese phone which does?
No NFC, no to O2 and no idea what cheapest Chinese phone will do. Buy cheap, buy twice. Xiaomi are well made phones though NFC is fairly unusual.
Thanks. Shame. That's the stumbling block that prevents me clicking buy as I use Android Pay. Also a bit suspicious of Chinese phones that they have some sort of spyware on them which I can't shake from reading too much post-apocalyptic fiction.

I'm looking for some advice regarding which version to get. I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the choices. I'm technically competent and have installed custom ROMs on phones before. Can someone in the know breakdown the options I face please?
I got the phone mentioned on the deal. It has the international ROM so I didn't have to do anything but
just update when I switched on. Hopefully someone will answer as there are so many different versions,
each with some extras and some things taken off.

The S5 didn't have bad battery life, I had one for 2 years & it was no worse than anything else about at that time plus you could carry additional batteries if necessary.

Pretty poor performance by todays standards around 33000 on Antutu so similar in spec to LG G2, not a bad price though I think a second hand G3 or S5 would be a better bet.
Those were the 3 main options when I was looking at a used phone 2 years ago - got the Note 3 and was really happy I did. The G3 had REALLY poor battery life and overheating issues and the S5 had lousy battery life too - I need something with a solid battery when I travel. Recently updated to the Note 4 and it's a really good phone but they have a few issues. The Note 3 was bulletproof
If you were happy with it then thats great. My friends that had them complained about it, the reviewers said the battery life wasn't great and was one of the weakest parts of the S5. I could get 5-6 hours SOT with the Note 3 with no problems what so ever. Which is why I chose it.
Good price good phone

Far better options than this, but this is good value if you are after this particular model.

fits Redmi note 2 I believe too. but the button led are white not red
But the camera is in a different place on the redmi note 2?
Or am i being thick again
No your correct my mistake. I was looking for a screen recently for Redmi note 2 and I could of sworn they were advertising them for both models. ( I assume now it must only use the same LCD) as like you said the camera is on the opposite side.

no worries lol :)

I saw this as I do own a note 3 which the screen has been playing up on. ghost touches etc. though it seems OK now. However I bought from eBay for 14.58 as I didn't trust exchange rate to come in bang on. and as shkurti says the Kate edition is marginally bigger. The wife has one and my case doesn't fit as it's approx 2mm longer.

good stuff, has anyone noticed the auto dim feature does not work correctly.
Just to add here. The latest Global Dev ROM has finally received the United Kingdom locale. So the next stable release should have it too.
Has anyone on this thread done the sd card trick while still having 2 sims.

I received the black non flip case today for for my Kate 152mm model and it is rubbish. It does not wrap around the sides of phone (gap between cover and phone) and feels really loose compared to the other cases I've had for previous phones in the past
I got my flip version from same seller today it fits like a glove, just the job!

I think the one in that youtube video is the official case from the Taiwan MI store. Mention by a few people on this XDA thread who bought them using a Taiwan shopping agent (comment #64).

Looks like they haven't updated their exchange rates as when you checkout it comes to £119.61
Looks like your right, think it came up to to £103 last night but changed it at final checkout. still pretty cheap at £119 though.
Why has this been expired?
Also need to add shipping cost as it's not included

Best region to set the device to?
I don't think it really makes much difference whatever it's set as. UK isn't included in "Locale" during initial set up, but recently MIUI Global updates has changed "Locale" to "Region" and UK is an option for it: http://en.miui.com/thread-439389-1-1.html
thanks
is there a way i can get the notifications to actually display in the notification bar at the top? right now they arent :/ i have to pull down to see them
Settings > Notifications & Status Bar > Show notification icons (toggle it to active)
Menu path might differ slightly depending on MIUI version but it should be there somewhere.
Thanks. How do I display sim card contacts? Can't seem to find an option
Open Contacts app. Long press Menu button (bottom left capacitive), Display Preferences > Show SIM contacts.
thanks i was being an idiot. i'd read somewhere the contacts & call uses the same app so I kept looking for the option in call.
sorry for all the questions lol.
also wondering if there is a way to make the icons/text on the notification bar bigger? they are quite small in comparison to the size of the screen.
enjoying the device though. wish more people would give imports a try
No size customisation for the notification bar but you can change the size of the notifications themselves (in pull down menu) by going to Settings > Display > Text Size.
Themes can change the notification bar icons (battery, wifi and mobile signal etc). Some imitate the look of stock Android or iOS and might be more visible than others. You can change it without applying an entire theme. Go to Themes app, profile symbol (top left) then "Customize theme". It's the "Status bar" one.
i'll try that.
i'm running arrow launcher with pixel icon pack
Custom launcher icons will be separate from MIUI system. The icons you see for notifications and in recent apps panel will still be the MIUI theme icons. If you search for 'pixel' in theme app you can download and apply icons so your notifications blend in better with your launcher icons.
Think I'm using the pixel MIUI theme
Also was wondering why some settings reset on system reboot eg I have to reactive fb messenger chat heads whenever I reboot the phone. There are other too like date and time needs changed to use network default instead of selected local again Everytime I reboot the phone. Is this normal? It's a hit of a pain having to go through and adjust all the settings every time the phone gets rebooted

First time I've heard of that happening and I've never encountered those issues, but after searching forums, the time reset bug does appear to be common for quite a while:
http://en.miui.com/thread-357961-1-1.html
There doesn't appear to be a fix though except one person mentioning a root tweak.

whats the thoughts on these phones from anyone that has one of these?
i just received the one of these I bought & honestly i'm impressed! more people need to consider importing devices. the build quality is good, design is nice with a premium feeling. it's fast & smooth. for the price i think you'd struggle to find anything better tbh. possible a used honor 7 on ebay but it scores substantially lower on antutu

Anyone found tempered glass that fits? My standard glass cover was cracked on arrival
Mine arrived yesterday and so far so good. Had 53% battery at first so charged to fully before turning it on and literally took me 5 mins to have it set up. It looks really classy and really quick so was worth the wait in the end!
taiko
i think you are best selling the gigaset one.

Why do you say that?
If anyone's after one of these before Christmas I'm selling one (silver 3GB / 32GB model).
It's in fantastic condition and there's not a scratch on it.
Boxed with all original packaging.
Comes with gel case (although a bit tight fitting as it's for the non-global version of the phone).
Tempered glass screen protector fitted (slightly short as it's for the non-global version of the phone).

Please note the following:
- buttons at the bottom (Menu, Home, Back) don't light up for some reason, but you can see the outline and they work absolutely fine
- when using my wired handsfee kit it didn't detect the microphone for some reason (the microphone on the handset itself remained active). A microphone on a bluetooth handsfree kit DID work as expected.

Great phone but as I use the wired hands free all the time I bought another of the same phone!

Cost me just over £150 a couple of months ago, selling for £120 (sorry no offers)
Can be collected from London E4, or from near Cancery Lane in Central London during Tues 20th.
Or I can post for an extra £7 (after receiving the funds)

Went for the Mi Max for 148 via Geekbuying over this, just seems like extra phone for the money
However this is a fantastic deal for those who want a smaller than 6' screen, but still with good specs at dirt cheap
I would personally invest in the extra RAM and storage for a little more, get the 3GB, but that is more money, of course
Thanks OP, I was sorely tempted :)
No problem, I have the Mi Max myself. :)

Just off hand, how do you find it? is it cumbersome, and do you think it is a worthy upgrade on an LG G3?

Idk if anyone mentioned it, but faster shipping (ie. not standard) will most likely accrue fees/taxes of around 20%, so careful

These Chinese phones are like mini tablets. To make them work as a phone is a gamble.
World War 2 was won by Saturn and chocolate is formed by mixing sodium carbonate with dragon scales.
Sorry I thought since you were making up mindless nonsense then I might as well join in.
Like you selling Chinese **** here like it was gold
Well technically it is gold, didn't you read the description. Although other colours are available.
That is why there is no UK warranty, does not work correctly with UK networks , may come with viruses already installed.
Brains and knowledge definitely not your strongpoint.....
Trolling and ignorance though, you get an A+ for that.
Just because, I am telling the truth, I am trolling. You are selling Chinese rubbish here. If it was a decent phone, from a UK seller, I would had no problem voting it hot. But messing people around by selling foreign rubbish is just plain greed.
Let me guess, you would recommend an iPhone.
There are decent Samsung, LG, One plus, Huawei, HTC phones which are made for UK and come with manufacturers warranty. IPhone is expensive but comes with warranty and peace of mind as well. No need to waste time messing around with viruses and Chinese roms or banking apps not working.
You can run into viruses and app compatibility issues on any of the devices that you just mentioned.

Incidentally I once had an iPhone but it was bricked by an official iOS update. It wasn't even a week out of warranty and Apple wanted £260 to fix it. Where was the peace of mind that you mentioned then?
Yep, chinese phones come with descriptions like this (taken from the very page you linked to):
"Metal Texture with Original Feeling

It looks so beautiful!
You should feel it in your hand."

"Offering all what we have craved for."

"Display
5.5”full HD
1920x1080,403PPI
Supporting sun display, you can see image clearly under strong sunlight
Supporting night display"

"Touching Camera and Wonderful Trop"

"MIUI 8
Beautiful new system for beautiful
new samrt phone"

"Declaration:We will declare it as a lower price, but it is also necessary for you to pay tax if needed, we are not responsible for custom duty tax
Gifts:We do not accept disputes about free gifts, please be kind to understand it"

Worth noting this version isn't compatible with O2 4G or any of it's MVNOs (giffgaff, Tesco, etc).
With the exception of GiffGaff, I honestly can't understand why anyone would still be using O2 in 2016.
What's wrong with o2?
I can't get a 4G signal with anyone else in my house.
Their ridiculously overpriced and their customer service is poo. That's just two reasons from the top of my head.
Love the way you posted a phone with no specs... is this the 32GB version?
The Chinese seller also manages to avoid disclosing that info...

I've been using the 32GB/3GB version for a few weeks now and I can't recommend it highly enough. I immediately stuck CM13 on it and it's been flawless, does everything I want it to, completely lag-free experience. These cheap Chinese phones are a game changer, anyone who is still spending over £200 on a smart phone is playing a mug's game.

Or want a decent camera....

This is nonsense. It takes decent pics, I can barely tell the difference between pictures I take on this and those taken on iPhones, Samsungs, etc.

You must be blind then.

I've bought this phone, having serious problems with the microphone, I've searched the Internet and it suggest the microphone is switching from primary to secondary mic. There isn't a solution to date I can find to fix this. Nightmare. Otherwise it is a great piece of kit.

Easy to fix. It's a bug. Just record some video in portrait.
JesterP64
I have the 3gb 32gb version of this. Best phone I have owned. 4g works on o2. Camera is good, not better than apple or Samsung. Miui 8 is great. Two day battery. A silicone case fits just as do screen protectors with a small gap. My second Chinese phone and miles better than the better spec Umi super.
Camera is pants, imposible to compare with the camera from Samsung or Apple.

Can active help me out and give me a link that is literally idiot proof from start to finish on how to install the CM13 or CM14? Most of the installations don't start from the very beginning. I'll do it no problem if it's idiot proof and step by step (I find Kodi on Amazon very easy - that's my level of pickup, so I'm not an expert but not dumb either). I have mine here from Gearbest and have become a little worried about banking etc. Thanks to anyone who can help me.
I use stock miui, and have no problems with banking apps. Why do you want to change?

Yes, I went onto my bank yesterday using the Note 3 Pro. No problems as I thought. You know what it's like on here. Too many experts but sometimes someone genuinely helpful makes a comment or gives a link so I just wanted to check that my sister will be able to access her bank and card company as she does not have or use a laptop.
She will never get round to using most of the pre-installed apps - she's really a browser and a texter and that's why I didn't go for an imported Galaxy Note 4 - it would have been a waste of a phone for what she uses it for.

On the other side, I would like to root a phone and install a custom ROM just because I like to get to know these things and understand them more. It's the same when I started with Amazon Fire Sticks. I was forever pausing and rewinding a YouTube tutorial and now I don't even need to look on YouTube to install Kodi and Pulse. (for friends and not for sale on ebay by the way!)

I'm with you. I have stock, uprooted global rom installed and all my banking apps work fine, as Miui is a stock Rom on a mi phone. As CM is a custom ROM, some banks don't like it as they see it as a security risk. Same goes for any rooted phone, as the entire device is opened up and again, it could be a security risk, so some apps may not work.

Is this going to work on EE in the UK?

I recently got this phone and it's great. No issues so far. Did have to pay £20 import duty though. I'm on ID mobile which is CPWH and I think they piggy back the three network. 4G works too. No different to buying a phone over here just a whole lot cheaper. Had mine one week after ordering.
Did you order express delivery by DHL?

From what I've read it works in UK fine, its just that 4G does will not work on some networks, but I could be wrong

No UK bands. Big negative

It has 2100 MHz so you get 4G LTE on Three. I'm told they only use 800 MHz for VoLTE.

Anyone else's phone not arrived?
no, not complaining. I guess as I currently use a oneplus one I was expecting similar quality. the note is a nice phone, screen is crisp and muiu is responsive. it's just not as good quality. it's my expectations that are wrong not the phone.

by the way, I ordered mine with the silicon case and screen protector. the case fits although is a bit small so bends over the sides a little. the screen protector is fine except for a few mm top and bottom.

mine arrived after about 2 weeks, maybe slightly less. all working fine although I'm not sure I like it.

Does anyone know if this phone supports 3G(/4G) on both sim slots at the same time? I have a Three data sim and a Three pay as you go sim. I'm hoping I can use them both at the same time...

You're not going to find a dual active phone at this price. This is dual standby. Second Space on Miui 8 is useful though.

Can anyone advise how much faster, if at all, this hexa core phone would be compared to a quad core phone like the LG G3 in terms of loading web pages and having multiple tabs open? Would there be a tangible improvement in page loading times and be more snappy ?

Update:
Tried differrent SIMS but non of them worked. Flashed TWRP (bootloader was already unlocked - checked with FLASHER TOOLKIT V1). Updated to MIUI v8 (miui_HMNote3ProGlobal_V8.0.1.0.LHOMIDG_8976c33651_5.1.zip) what bricked the phone. Using fastboot_edl I put it into EDL mode, then used MiFlash to flash new (old ROM kenzo_global_images_V7.3.6.0.LHOMIDD_20160523.0000.23_5.1_global_aef179560d.tgz) same version as phone had originally - just to send it back. Took a while, but now SIM works. Even got the promt to update to v8 which it did and still didn't kill it. Since I got it sorted wife happy with the phone, Seems even smother then my nexus 6 (camera lagging a lot recently).

That's brilliant! So a software issue then. Glad you managed to fix it. I'm on the fence about getting one... Glad it's worked out for you. SM.

Yes, checked google first but mostly people are struggling with phone loosing network connectivity. Purchase made on credit card so this option still open. Connected to WiFi but no updates available. There is few ROMs I can try but don't want to mess with phone too much in case I will have to return it. Just trying to find out is there a problem with ROM it got shipped with (which can be sorted) or is it a hardware problem (will raise the case/ send it back).

That's so annoying if it's not working. Maybe try a different sim inside it? Good you paid on CC as you should be covered.

I saw a few links on youtube: Redmi Note

Also here - read the comments. Mentions that an update fixed the issue so maybe a change of ROM will do it. No Service

Flashing the software from what forums are saying can fix the issue... let us know how you get on.

I have bought 3 phones from Gearbest. 2 worked fine 1 didn't... and it was troublesome to get it sorted out.. pictures, email, video clip and then after supplying them with everything I could got offered partial refund nowhere near the price I spent . I vowed to stick to banggood and never use them again. but that is Gearbest. . . the phones all made by xiaomi apart from the one that didn't work are really great phone. I was lucky as I'm on Ee so my 4g bands work well the phones are fast and compared to my Samsung s5 it's more powerful. some games lagged on s5 some had to be played at medium level but this phone played at max settings and no lag.. .. but Gearbest grrrr they peeved me right off

So if you use ee or 3 and, like most people never use the warranty... You can spend the 200 you've saved on something else, even a replacement should you need one!
All the networks use that band to some degree.
They do but the use of B20 is limited to a few devices on Three. Even if you buy a Huawei P9 from them it will get nothing on B20 either directly of via the InTouch app and this applies to the majority of devices.

Just wanted to add for the record that this is complete horse poop. Had my doubts when reading it but put a frequency logger on my phone (3 sim only contract) today, it spends more time on band 20 then 3.
I've only ever bought one thing from Gearbest (£12 keyboard for my Linx). Currently sent a few emails to Banggood after they packed the wrong AC Adapter for a tablet I bought - Live Chat won't even speak to me and direct me to their contact forms, which takes up a day at a time! It's a not-common connector so I've had to buy from Amazon Prime to "make do".

Not that impressed with my China purchases at the moment!

Got my Note 3. What a piece of hardware, lovely screen, great battery life, super slick, very good sound for a phone, and it appears to run Pokemon Go fine if anyone cares X) (including AR mode) It looks and feels fairly classy too.

The software side is more troublesome. It had a retailer modified OS with ads on the lock-screen and in chrome, and it took a few hours (and lots of watching videos) to figure out how to get a clean version of global MIUI onto the phone. Now I've done that it's super nice though, but it's still on 5.1. I'd really like to get Cynagenmod 13 and 6.1 on there, but that's a difficult process involving waiting for approval to unlock the bootloader.

If you're not tech-savvy you'd probably be stuck with the ads and hate the phone, but if you can get a clean OS on there it's a lot of phone for £112.

Edit: Oh one more thing, the Pocket Minecraft demo crashes when you launch survival mode, dunno about the full game.

Will this phone have touchscreen problems, such as for example the vodafone smart 6 where when I was texting quickly the touchscreen didn't like keep up?
Could you explain why you have inserted the word like between didn't and keep?
If you're gonna be a pedant at least do it properly. You could have used quotation marks or italics, but without either your sentence looks even more nonsensical than the one you are criticising.
The grammar fuhrer will be disappointed in you.

Calm down, don't get your thesaurus in a knot.

Ok I took the plunge, 2GB/16GB in gold, now the waiting. Was between this and the Honor 5C, but I keep reading the 5C has a worse screen (low brightness and contrast). Hope 5.5" isn't too big.
Cheers for the replies btw.

I purchased the 5c and can only say that I am shocked at how good it is. I put a launcher on it as I didn't like the apps being on display constantly.

Regarding brightness, I am currently sat in a sunlit garden with the screen on 80% brightness and it is clear as a bell.

It has a far superior signal to my S3 and the camera is also superior and all for the princely sum of £139.99.

Well chuffed.
Ordered at £114.12 thanks very much OP nice find. My brother ordered one of these and recommended it to me. My Nexus 6 is getting slugglish even after master reset the camera for example keeps crashing. Will be keen to see how this compares

I paid $179.99 a couple of days ago which is roughly £135 from AliExpress, yes it's been around £120 around Brexit when the £ was all over the place.
if any repair, you need to send all the way to China...which will cost more than 50 pounds..
I tried in the website ibuygoyou.com which is in spain. same price 189 pounds with 2 years warannty
But if any repair, we need to send the phone to spain which will cost 50 pounds through DHL..
hence buying in UK and waranty in UK
I might be wrong, but this is not a UK phone, Xiaomi don't have any UK repair centers, Do you think you'll have a year warranty from a random eBay seller to repair a phone? Surely you/they would still have to send it back to China for repair.
This isn't a UK model phone, this seller has probably just bought bulk from the same place as most of us but is hoping to flog them for £70 more in the hope people think they're a UK phone, yes delivery may be within a few days compared to that of 10-14 days people are saying from AliExpress, but is it really worth it? He mentions nothing about warranty from what I can see on his listing but my guess (and I may be wrong) is that you still need to return it to China.

There is a warranty for 2 years from square trade where you no need to post from your pocket to chine or EU. Everything square trade will take care
2 yr warranty £45.99 from SquareTrade.

also if you dont buy 2 years warantty from uk seller, still you have 1 year warantty where you will post only to UK seller(you no need to post to china) , it means your charges are less..it doesnt matter they will send to china or get it repair in UK under waranty......

suggest me the best place to buy apart from china, am focussed on waranty as currently my redmi note 2 has severe battery drain problems.
If all you want is quick UK delivery and some type of UK warranty, there are cheaper sellers on ebay

oh and others might be able to advise a bit better than me as im new to these chinese phones
Depends what you want out of your phone, i used to root my android phones years ago but recently cannot be bothered so tend to stick with official release unless it slows handset down cos of all the bloatware.

I'm enjoying MUI7 and will update to MUI8 whens its available

and yeah would do a full install just to be sure, make sure you install the global version of MUI which has all the google stuff on it
I ended up buying this from Hong Kong Goldway as Dreami was slow to respond. It was on offer for $169.99 but Dreami are selling it for $168.99 for the Global EU Rom version. (gold versions)

HK Goldway said might as well go for the cheaper $169.99 as updating the ROM is very easy - they have a youtube video showing how to to do it.

The official public release of MUI8 for the Redmi will be released on the 16th of August.

So quick question - is it best to stay on MUI8 or root and install CM?

Once I get the phone should I do a full re-install of the OS to make sure there are no unwanted spyware?

I ordered on the 4th August 8pm local time in China.

Its been shipped today 5pm local time in China

Snapdragon 650 versions come with 3GB of RAM. This says 2GB. I would get that conformed before buying.

They also do a 2Gb/16Gb version with a Qualcomm MSM8956 Snapddragon 650,
the same as 3Gb/32Gb version. Take a look at this link Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro

This has now expired for the initial price - it's around 136-137 now.

Im guessing Xiaomi is one of the brands worth considering if your after a Chinese bargain!!

Yes , but they have some drawbacks compared to other Chinaphones - don't expect 4G on all UK networks ( they usually miss band 20 ) . They also use a custom version of Android ( which you may or may not like ).

Maybe oversimplified but the probability of having a problem with aliexpress vs Amazon is much much higher. If I bought something in the UK I would expect it to work for at least a year if not I would claim under warranty. An item bought from Aliexpress will have no such cover, and in the unlikely event that it did would cost a huge amount in shipping costs. The amount saved in the purchase is not enough to protect against this. if you are willing to take the risk that's fine, but I feel the fine people of hukdeals should be made aware so they can make an informed choice. The Internet is full of Chinese websites with nice pictures of their customer service operatives who as you know speak very poor English and will say just about anything to get and keep your money. It is in my opinion not a risk worth taking for high value items.
There is a reason Ali express is cheap. It's not a deal it's a gamble.

kinda over simplifying it there.

Yes im sure people have had issues and being a foreign company thats tough to deal with. but if you protect yourself using paypal or credit cards you should be fine purchasing.

as always with gearbest or aliexpress you have to take into account returns being difficult / not worth it depending on your purchase.

but as you know the main reason for them being cheap is due to them not adding vat onto the prices and shipping them from their home market.

now I saw in banggood LeTv Le2 with x20 and 16MP camera for 140P and now I'm between Le2 or Redmi note 3 (basically RN3 has gyroscope and I don't know if I'll need one in the future if I buy some VR set).

Thank-you to all who responded to my post and for your help. As per your instructions I downloaded an app which displayed the hardware information. It showed that the CPU was 1.8Ghz. That was still contrary to one of the comparison website which claimed that the CPU should be 2Ghz. However it also showed that the camera is 16mp .. and in the comparison website, it displays a 13mp for the 1.8Ghz version. This all means that the information on the comparison website doesn't seem all up to scratch.

In combination to the other information you provided here, I read and watched some more reviews on the internet and there's now enough information which suggest a good probability that I may, after all, have the correct phone. I wish there was an official spec in xiomi's website to confirm. However what keenan316 says "The Pro bit was only added by 3rd party companies" may explain why this isn't the case.

Present sorted for partner and if there's any complaint that it isn't 2Ghz, I'll throw in a reminder that size doesn't matter.

Apologies for the false alarm everyone, I will edit my original post to reassure any future readers. Thanks Again.
Download an app from the playstore, just type in 'phone chipset'.
It'll tell you what version you have.

The snapdragon version you have should also have a 16 megapixel camera as apposed to 13.

Edited By: itr786 on Jun 18, 2016 20:43
In China there is only Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. The Pro bit was only added by 3rd party companies.
Under settings, in the "about phone" section, it will only say Redmi Note 3.

The CPU should say Hexa-Core 1.8Ghz Max..

Like this photo..

http://www.droidgizmohub.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Install-Cyanogen-12.1-ROM-on-Redmi-Note-3-Snapdragon.jpg

Does yours look like that?

New Note: The warning below was based on information I had at the time of writing it. However based on others' feedback since I posted below, I'm in the process of verifying whether the information was correct. In the meantime I'm removing the big caption of 'WARNING' from my post.
I received a rednote 3 NOT a rednote 3 pro.
In Settings > About Phone, It will tell you what processor you have. If you see 1.8 Ghz or less, then its NOT the pro. It should be 2 Ghz.
Has anyone else fallen for this scam? I would be grateful if you let me know. I'm about to contact AliExpress for support for the first time, can anyone reassure me its not going to be too painful?
Did you pay by visa should be able to get your money back if you did.
ssatoh_inreverse
itr786

Calm down, you'll end up giving yourself a nose bleed.
It is a pro version.
Too late, even my ears are bleeding profusely. At first I searched on the net and the comparison websites suggest it is NOT pro:http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-Pro,Xiaomi%20Redmi%20Note%203/phones/9877,9803
(there were other comparison websites I checked)
Then I checked on the official site: http://www.mi.com/
If you choose the region as UK or International, you will only find the spec for the Redmi Note 3 NOT Redmi Note 3 pro - I don't know why. You have to choose 'mainland china' .. however the names are different after google translate, so it was a lot of trouble but eventually I was able to work it out and that's when I came to my conclusion that I've been duped.
However, if someone was able to prove me wrong here, I would be very grateful even at the cost of being laughed at.
Also in the About Phone section it says: "Redmi Note 3" in Model number. I was expecting it to have 'Pro' in there?

As suggested download a chipset app and see what it says, how much ram have you got? It should be 3gb

Unfortunately good memory is still relatively expensive, its not really an area they can cut costs.

More memory is never a bad thing and its cheaper than a new phone when you've underestimated your future memory requirements.

Its back in stock now but gone up a tenner.

What a fantastic Phone. I`ll say again, fantastic. first and foremost, Im running EE, and yes it does support 4g and Ive had some good speeds too. Averaging 10mbs using speedtest.net. Fastest ive had so far is 17mbps.

The phone is fast and responsive and very quickly loaded my old data apps etc which had been used on my old note 2.

Screen fantastic, Photos first class.

drawback is its full of at&t bloatware and a little work needs to be done to clear it. Some wont go but it can be hidden.

Even at a tenner more its worth every single penny IMHO
Looked, out of stock and have been for some time....

Just to mention, this isn't the standard European version, N9005 it's a US variant the N900A. How much difference that makes with regards warranty etc I don't know.

I have a N9005 and it's a cracking phone - picked it up off ebay for a little over £150 last summer but due to a bit of a balls-up I've just got a used N910F (Note 4) for £165 so I'm gonna have a play and see how it compares and which one I'll sell.

Do yourself a favour and avoid the "genuine" Samsung batteries that you see advertised and go for something like Anker (though you dont get NFC) and, if you can find one, buy the Samsung external charger. Tech21 make awesome cases for them but they're really hard to find - I bought mine out in the states and the phone's still great after a couple of drops.

I've just tried to hunt out an Anker battery for my note 3 and couldn't find one fit love nor money, any tips?

Cheers.

Rich

look on Amazon ...I bought mine there for £10
Well mine arrived this morning, ordered last week, 4g running like a dream ;)

Well it's not the N900A then. They don't seem to know what model they are selling which is in itself a sign not to bother.
Works on mine, I'm just lost getting a spare battery, Samsung want £25 which is to much and Anker batteries are impossible to find in the UK.

If it's faulty is it still back to China though?
As a rule of thumb; if your buying these chinese phones from china, dont hold your breath on a smooth (if any) repair/refund.
i bought phone and it was not as described.. a lot of features missing and not working... I had to pay postage to send it back to China even though I bought from EU warehouse. PayPal had to intervene....never buying from them

Conversely, I've had mine six months, admittedly the stock software is pants, but Cyanogenmod 12.1 is working fine (apart from dual SIM data, only works on SIM 1). Bought from Gearbest EU Warehouse and arrived in a few working days. I have the 32gb Prime version. I am aware I've been lucky and I bought it fully knowing that any problems would necessitate sending it back to China (so effectively no warranty). But it's not ALWAYS a disaster to buy this way. It was £120, probably the most I'd be willing to punt. I'd be unlikely to do it again, but it's just so much better value than anything comparable spec wise in the UK at the moment.

I use angel vs demons v8 ROM and it works perfectly. it's based on miui, so you might not like it. I got my redmi note 2 for 40 used off eBay. I was lucky as the condition was perfect. tried the beta of the new eu miui. wasn't impressed, mainly due to the poor battery life and slow charge times.
Anyone else noticed Amazon have removed all Xiaomi phones?

Hi Gordon, in the case of dual sim usually only one of them is 3g, the other is 2g only, so if you got a 3g sim in the 2g slot it wont give you a data connection, not sure if that helps you 8) also, which sim app are you using to switch between sims?
That's indeed how it works on the stock software.
This is slightly different. It's because I'm using Cyanogenmod and Xiaomi haven't published sources. Even if data is disabled on SIM 1, SIM 2 never has data. It's a minor bug and Cyanogenmod is much better for my use overall than the stock MIUI software which crashes a lot and is full of rubbish apps I don't need (even if you reflash the sMIUI version which strips a lot of them out) http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/orig-development/rom-redmi-note-2-t3272872
Ah good so its rooted & you got CyanogenMod on it, well you could use mobileuncle to tweak it so that the frequencies are correct for uk? : http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=11870&page=1#pid247613
Engineering Mode isn't accessible either unfortunately. I'm happy enough without Band 20 to be honest, it's barely faster than strong HSDPA
Have you tried the XIAOMI RedMi shortcuts? Type *#*#13411#*#* in dialer, should give you engineer mode, or you can enter engineer mode by turning off your phone and hold Volume up button + Power button at the same time 8)
I bought the 32GB version from Gearbest EU a few weeks ago and it came to less than £100 with the TCB cashback.
It was $149 when I bought it, but has now gone up to $196. If you want the extra storage it might be worth waiting to see if the 32GB price goes down again.

When I first got it some apps wouldn't work (NowTV for example) because they thought the phone was rooted. I installed the international ROM from the Xiaomi website and that fixed that problem. http://en.miui.com/download-274.html

I didn't particularly like the MIUI interface, but installing the Nova launcher made a big improvement.

Lovely phone for the money.

It's worth investing in a spare battery, they're dead cheap from various Chinese websites. They're out of stock at Gearbest, but I bought one from AliExpress and one from Everbuying, and despite the low price they appear to be genuine. They last as long as the one that came with the phone, unlike some cheap phone batteries I've bought in the past.

Hey Flea,
I am considering getting the Redmi Note 3 Pro from the Dreami link which you posted up. Still debating whether to get the 3GB ram version of 2GB version.
I had a couple of questions:
1. Do you know whether you can flash anything other then MIUI on it? CM13 for example?
2. I believe you mentioned that you've bought phones from them before, just want to confirm that it is Dreami that you bought your phones from.
3. Do you know whether the battery can be replaced? It sounds like your in the IT business so I thought you may know whether it can be opened or not.
4. I have used MIUI 7 on my Galaxy S4 and had the following issues, can you advise whether you have had these issues before:
- GPS: I had to do a lot of fiddling around to get GPS working
- Google Chrome: With the build of MIUI 7 I have used on Galaxy S4 Google Chrome didn't work. It was a known issue, pages simply to not load, all other browsers worked apart from Chrome
- International numbers were not recognised, for example +44 numbers which are saved in my contacts where not being recognised when I had incoming calls, so I had to replace them with 0. Is that an issue with the Redmi Note 3 ROM?
- What PORT does it have on the bottom? USB Type C or the older style?
- Do you reckon MIUI 8 will ever come to the Redmi Note 3 line? Do they continue to support older devices like Cyanogenmod do?
I am currently looking into a replacement for my S4 and I was thinking of getting a refurbed S5 but the Redmi Note looks really tempting.
Thanks!
Howdee ceanth,
I will do my best to answer your questions.
1) The phone is supplied locked, but there is information on XDA on how to 'fudge' unlock the phone using a patched file. You can request factory unlock from Xiaomi though their website, (I have done this) once its manifacture unlocked you should be able to install any rom you like, there was a few on XDA and some also on Xiaomi's own forums.
2) I used Dreami from aliexpress. I think their entire name is Hong Kong Dreami.
3) Its a sealed battery, so I personally would not bother trying. But saying that, there are other phones that have sealed batteries that have guides for changing. So I can't really help on this one.
4) Not really tested GPS much.
- Chrome works fine.
- Just looked at my contacts, I have them as +44 7967 XXXXXX ect, and when they call it comes up with their contact details/name but shows the number as 07967 XXXXXX.
- Mini USB not type-c.
- They release weekly dev builds which is more than the 'major' brands do. But with any phone, updates are not guaranteed.
Now the phone is £102 with a possible 7.5% cash back. Sure you could sell it on for cost if you don't like it ?
Regards
Flea
Cheers Flea,
Sounds really good. The last thing I would like to know is how much 4G i will get out of Vodafone, also if you are able to advise which network's 4G will not work on the Redmi Note 3.
If I get it im probably going to go for the 3GB ram version as I don't like to change phones often so my logic is that i'll go for the best I can get at this stage so it lasts longer.
Hey bud, MIUI8 is confirmed for the entire line in Redmi Phones. Also, I don't think it will work on Vodafone LTE but you can check here http://willmyphonework.net/

Thanks for this info. I ended up buying a UK based device. The website you gave actually suggests Vodafone 4G will work on Band7-2600MHz.

Anyhow I guess I am out now, which is a shame since Vodafone is the only network which works in my flat so I am stuck with it :(
Hi, Only just got back round to trying to sort this. Am i right in thinking if i request the xiaomi unlock code i can then use the update app on the phone to get the global rom. As currently I can only access the chinese version.
I have manually downloaded the global stable rom but it won`t verify the update (i assume it it protected)
Sounds good, I think it's a good idea then to get the unlock code & maybe join you on the falkland isles . Do they send a link to the global ROM as well then? I know the ROMs are posted up on the guides but seems straight forward doing it this way.

Hi again Flea, got my new phone last week. All looks very good so far (arrived sealed & build quality looks superb), did you get the unlock code from the official site ok from xiaomi. I don't think I will be setting it up for global ROM for a few days yet(I will let my mate help who does a lot of these type things) Also I read on another post on here somewhere that someone was running his with the Chinese rom still and was happy with that? I think he just installed the play store on it as it came, main benefit was for OTA updates I think? I have read the comparison & think the global ROM is the choice for most and is what I intend to do.

Yes I got a text with my unlock code and a link to the software you needed to do it.

Running the global rom, only downside was I could not select England as the local, so I went for Falkland Isles. Actually got an OTA update to the global ROM today, nice to see Xiaomi are doing the updates.

Very happy with mine for the price, battery life is awesome.

Regards
Flea

Many thanks for the info fleabum. It sounds like you are a bit more knowledgable than me but I know a little bit myself & have had a look at the guide. It sounds like most are putting the global ROM on it themselves. Let me know how you get on? It sounds like different sellers put different ROM versions on so I thought like you it made more sense to get a sealed box version and sort it myself.
Enjoy
Not a problem, always try to help.
I have just flashed global rom onto mine, fastboot version 7.3.2 (kenzo_global_images_V7.3.2.0.LHOMIDD_20160419.0000.19_5.1_global). I used this guide to help out along the way :- Tools, Tips & Tutorials - MIUI DEVICE TEAM - Flash (Unbrick) Redmi Note 3(SD) with Locked Bootloader
I have also asked for a Xiaomi legitimate unlock code from their website here :- http://en.miui.com/unlock/. With this I should be able to install any rom on it I please with little hassle, but it does take upto 10 days they say.

you sure its not a power profile being applied? Mine is fine, but sometimes the profile turns off mobile data e.g at night time.
I'm wondering if this has something to do with the alarm not going off, it powers down to a low state.
Worth being aware that xiaomi handsets have an aggressive battery management system that terminates background apps. If any apps are failing then change their individual battery profile. Took me a while to make my RN2 play nice with my pebble for that reason.
Not played with alarms but I know from the outset it went into a sleep mode overnight so that could be the issue there too.
Was wondering about the sleep mode, but miui clock seems ok now, where as the google one was the problem. Miui certainly has more areas to fiddle with than standard android, pluses and minuses with that!

Definitely. Once you're aware of it then things are fine. But I was losing sanity and hair trying to work out why the pebble kept being forgotten about!

elephone p9000 looks better to me :p
In many ways it is. But the Redmi note 3 has the faster snapdragon 650, bigger battery and arguably better manufacturer Xiaomi. The P9000 has 4Gb RAM and a Sony camera which may well be better, NFC, and type c quick charge. Not sure about how the screens compare. The P9000 also has all the required UK frequencies..

Also look at the Ulefone Future, http://ulefone.com/products/future/features.html
And Elephone M3
Or
Meizu M3

finbaar : This is 16gb model
I have had my RN3 Pro 32gb model for a few weeks now. It is a truly impressive piece of kit. I moved to it from a OnePlus 2 and I buy a lot of phones (6 last year).

Pros
Firstly the battery life is amazing. I am exceptionally hard on phones when I am at work due to the fact the phone signal is weak and I use it a lot. Looking at it now it has 68% left after 7 hours. Usually I would have had to top up by now. The RN3 just lasts all day no problem.

MIUI is great, fast, smooth and feature rich. I used to flash it to phones and it was my second favourite rom after CM. If you don’t like the launcher just install Nova or whatever.

The build quality is very nice, particularly for the price. It isn’t to heavy either. The screen is decent.

It takes an SD card. I tried a 64gb one and it didn’t recognise it until I formatted it in another phone. Only 32gb cards are officially supported.

Cons
It is a big device, but it has a big screen. The footprint is smaller than an iPhone 6+ though.

The fingerprint sensor is decent but I have to map each finger twice for it to work properly.

Flashing the global rom was easy for me but might not be if you are not use to that sort of thing. However I strongly recommend doing so. Xiaomi issue regular updates and you will miss out on these with a custom rom. Also unlike the China rom Google apps are preinstalled and all Play Store apps are compatible (not so with the China rom).

No NFC (not an issue for me) and no band 20 (again not an issue for me as Three haven't rolled out any LTE where I live never mind switching on 800MHz).

Hey guys, got mine today - came with miui global 7.3 | stable 7.3.2.0

Firstly am i safe from the spyware/malware
Secondly am i better off getting cyanagenmod?

Thanks in advance

Download a spy warehouse scanner from the app store as a minimum. I advocate flashing a rom yourself to be 100% sure. But that does take time and effort.

Not used cm on this device but the miui rom is fine enough

Can any1 tell me how to enter download mode? thx
hi, there is a mode on the redmi note 3 pro called edl mode, once you enter that mode you will need to download the fastboot rom and the mi flash tool, then connect your phone to the pc, while connected to edl mode, and flash the rom using the mi flash tool.
