Got my Note 3. What a piece of hardware, lovely screen, great battery life, super slick, very good sound for a phone, and it appears to run Pokemon Go fine if anyone cares X) (including AR mode) It looks and feels fairly classy too.

The software side is more troublesome. It had a retailer modified OS with ads on the lock-screen and in chrome, and it took a few hours (and lots of watching videos) to figure out how to get a clean version of global MIUI onto the phone. Now I've done that it's super nice though, but it's still on 5.1. I'd really like to get Cynagenmod 13 and 6.1 on there, but that's a difficult process involving waiting for approval to unlock the bootloader.

If you're not tech-savvy you'd probably be stuck with the ads and hate the phone, but if you can get a clean OS on there it's a lot of phone for £112.

Edit: Oh one more thing, the Pocket Minecraft demo crashes when you launch survival mode, dunno about the full game.

Will this phone have touchscreen problems, such as for example the vodafone smart 6 where when I was texting quickly the touchscreen didn't like keep up?
Could you explain why you have inserted the word like between didn't and keep?
If you're gonna be a pedant at least do it properly. You could have used quotation marks or italics, but without either your sentence looks even more nonsensical than the one you are criticising.
The grammar fuhrer will be disappointed in you.

Calm down, don't get your thesaurus in a knot.

Ok I took the plunge, 2GB/16GB in gold, now the waiting. Was between this and the Honor 5C, but I keep reading the 5C has a worse screen (low brightness and contrast). Hope 5.5" isn't too big.
Cheers for the replies btw.

I purchased the 5c and can only say that I am shocked at how good it is. I put a launcher on it as I didn't like the apps being on display constantly.

Regarding brightness, I am currently sat in a sunlit garden with the screen on 80% brightness and it is clear as a bell.

It has a far superior signal to my S3 and the camera is also superior and all for the princely sum of £139.99.

Well chuffed.
Ordered at £114.12 thanks very much OP nice find. My brother ordered one of these and recommended it to me. My Nexus 6 is getting slugglish even after master reset the camera for example keeps crashing. Will be keen to see how this compares

oh and others might be able to advise a bit better than me as im new to these chinese phones
Depends what you want out of your phone, i used to root my android phones years ago but recently cannot be bothered so tend to stick with official release unless it slows handset down cos of all the bloatware.

I'm enjoying MUI7 and will update to MUI8 whens its available

and yeah would do a full install just to be sure, make sure you install the global version of MUI which has all the google stuff on it
I ended up buying this from Hong Kong Goldway as Dreami was slow to respond. It was on offer for $169.99 but Dreami are selling it for $168.99 for the Global EU Rom version. (gold versions)

HK Goldway said might as well go for the cheaper $169.99 as updating the ROM is very easy - they have a youtube video showing how to to do it.

The official public release of MUI8 for the Redmi will be released on the 16th of August.

So quick question - is it best to stay on MUI8 or root and install CM?

Once I get the phone should I do a full re-install of the OS to make sure there are no unwanted spyware?

I ordered on the 4th August 8pm local time in China.

Its been shipped today 5pm local time in China

Im guessing Xiaomi is one of the brands worth considering if your after a Chinese bargain!!

Yes , but they have some drawbacks compared to other Chinaphones - don't expect 4G on all UK networks ( they usually miss band 20 ) . They also use a custom version of Android ( which you may or may not like ).

I got MIUI 8 installed yesterday :) OTA, it's a big update 505mb in size with loads of improvements and some UI changes
Shouldn't be to long to wait now

But if you want to do it manually

Is the best seller Dreami on Aliexpress for the Redmi Note 3? Is there anyway I can get rid of the warranty as it being adding by default and is not valid in the UK? Additionally, should I get them to install MIUI8 or stick with MIUI7 as MIUI8 is too new and may contain bugs. Thank you,

Thank-you to all who responded to my post and for your help. As per your instructions I downloaded an app which displayed the hardware information. It showed that the CPU was 1.8Ghz. That was still contrary to one of the comparison website which claimed that the CPU should be 2Ghz. However it also showed that the camera is 16mp .. and in the comparison website, it displays a 13mp for the 1.8Ghz version. This all means that the information on the comparison website doesn't seem all up to scratch.

In combination to the other information you provided here, I read and watched some more reviews on the internet and there's now enough information which suggest a good probability that I may, after all, have the correct phone. I wish there was an official spec in xiomi's website to confirm. However what keenan316 says "The Pro bit was only added by 3rd party companies" may explain why this isn't the case.

Present sorted for partner and if there's any complaint that it isn't 2Ghz, I'll throw in a reminder that size doesn't matter.

Apologies for the false alarm everyone, I will edit my original post to reassure any future readers. Thanks Again.
Download an app from the playstore, just type in 'phone chipset'.
It'll tell you what version you have.

The snapdragon version you have should also have a 16 megapixel camera as apposed to 13.

Edited By: itr786 on Jun 18, 2016 20:43
In China there is only Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. The Pro bit was only added by 3rd party companies.
Under settings, in the "about phone" section, it will only say Redmi Note 3.

The CPU should say Hexa-Core 1.8Ghz Max..

Like this photo..

http://www.droidgizmohub.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Install-Cyanogen-12.1-ROM-on-Redmi-Note-3-Snapdragon.jpg

Does yours look like that?

New Note: The warning below was based on information I had at the time of writing it. However based on others' feedback since I posted below, I'm in the process of verifying whether the information was correct. In the meantime I'm removing the big caption of 'WARNING' from my post.
I received a rednote 3 NOT a rednote 3 pro.
In Settings > About Phone, It will tell you what processor you have. If you see 1.8 Ghz or less, then its NOT the pro. It should be 2 Ghz.
Has anyone else fallen for this scam? I would be grateful if you let me know. I'm about to contact AliExpress for support for the first time, can anyone reassure me its not going to be too painful?
Did you pay by visa should be able to get your money back if you did.

Calm down, you'll end up giving yourself a nose bleed.
It is a pro version.
Too late, even my ears are bleeding profusely. At first I searched on the net and the comparison websites suggest it is NOT pro:http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-Pro,Xiaomi%20Redmi%20Note%203/phones/9877,9803
(there were other comparison websites I checked)
Then I checked on the official site: http://www.mi.com/
If you choose the region as UK or International, you will only find the spec for the Redmi Note 3 NOT Redmi Note 3 pro - I don't know why. You have to choose 'mainland china' .. however the names are different after google translate, so it was a lot of trouble but eventually I was able to work it out and that's when I came to my conclusion that I've been duped.
However, if someone was able to prove me wrong here, I would be very grateful even at the cost of being laughed at.
Also in the About Phone section it says: "Redmi Note 3" in Model number. I was expecting it to have 'Pro' in there?

As suggested download a chipset app and see what it says, how much ram have you got? It should be 3gb

Unfortunately good memory is still relatively expensive, its not really an area they can cut costs.

More memory is never a bad thing and its cheaper than a new phone when you've underestimated your future memory requirements.

Its back in stock now but gone up a tenner.

What a fantastic Phone. I`ll say again, fantastic. first and foremost, Im running EE, and yes it does support 4g and Ive had some good speeds too. Averaging 10mbs using speedtest.net. Fastest ive had so far is 17mbps.

The phone is fast and responsive and very quickly loaded my old data apps etc which had been used on my old note 2.

Screen fantastic, Photos first class.

drawback is its full of at&t bloatware and a little work needs to be done to clear it. Some wont go but it can be hidden.

Even at a tenner more its worth every single penny IMHO
Looked, out of stock and have been for some time....

Just to mention, this isn't the standard European version, N9005 it's a US variant the N900A. How much difference that makes with regards warranty etc I don't know.

I have a N9005 and it's a cracking phone - picked it up off ebay for a little over £150 last summer but due to a bit of a balls-up I've just got a used N910F (Note 4) for £165 so I'm gonna have a play and see how it compares and which one I'll sell.

Do yourself a favour and avoid the "genuine" Samsung batteries that you see advertised and go for something like Anker (though you dont get NFC) and, if you can find one, buy the Samsung external charger. Tech21 make awesome cases for them but they're really hard to find - I bought mine out in the states and the phone's still great after a couple of drops.

I've just tried to hunt out an Anker battery for my note 3 and couldn't find one fit love nor money, any tips?

Cheers.

Rich

look on Amazon ...I bought mine there for £10
Well mine arrived this morning, ordered last week, 4g running like a dream ;)

Well it's not the N900A then. They don't seem to know what model they are selling which is in itself a sign not to bother.
Works on mine, I'm just lost getting a spare battery, Samsung want £25 which is to much and Anker batteries are impossible to find in the UK.

If it's faulty is it still back to China though?
As a rule of thumb; if your buying these chinese phones from china, dont hold your breath on a smooth (if any) repair/refund.
i bought phone and it was not as described.. a lot of features missing and not working... I had to pay postage to send it back to China even though I bought from EU warehouse. PayPal had to intervene....never buying from them

Conversely, I've had mine six months, admittedly the stock software is pants, but Cyanogenmod 12.1 is working fine (apart from dual SIM data, only works on SIM 1). Bought from Gearbest EU Warehouse and arrived in a few working days. I have the 32gb Prime version. I am aware I've been lucky and I bought it fully knowing that any problems would necessitate sending it back to China (so effectively no warranty). But it's not ALWAYS a disaster to buy this way. It was £120, probably the most I'd be willing to punt. I'd be unlikely to do it again, but it's just so much better value than anything comparable spec wise in the UK at the moment.

I use angel vs demons v8 ROM and it works perfectly. it's based on miui, so you might not like it. I got my redmi note 2 for 40 used off eBay. I was lucky as the condition was perfect. tried the beta of the new eu miui. wasn't impressed, mainly due to the poor battery life and slow charge times.
Anyone else noticed Amazon have removed all Xiaomi phones?

Hi Gordon, in the case of dual sim usually only one of them is 3g, the other is 2g only, so if you got a 3g sim in the 2g slot it wont give you a data connection, not sure if that helps you 8) also, which sim app are you using to switch between sims?
That's indeed how it works on the stock software.
This is slightly different. It's because I'm using Cyanogenmod and Xiaomi haven't published sources. Even if data is disabled on SIM 1, SIM 2 never has data. It's a minor bug and Cyanogenmod is much better for my use overall than the stock MIUI software which crashes a lot and is full of rubbish apps I don't need (even if you reflash the sMIUI version which strips a lot of them out) http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/orig-development/rom-redmi-note-2-t3272872
Ah good so its rooted & you got CyanogenMod on it, well you could use mobileuncle to tweak it so that the frequencies are correct for uk? : http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=11870&page=1#pid247613
Engineering Mode isn't accessible either unfortunately. I'm happy enough without Band 20 to be honest, it's barely faster than strong HSDPA
Have you tried the XIAOMI RedMi shortcuts? Type *#*#13411#*#* in dialer, should give you engineer mode, or you can enter engineer mode by turning off your phone and hold Volume up button + Power button at the same time 8)
I bought the 32GB version from Gearbest EU a few weeks ago and it came to less than £100 with the TCB cashback.
It was $149 when I bought it, but has now gone up to $196. If you want the extra storage it might be worth waiting to see if the 32GB price goes down again.

When I first got it some apps wouldn't work (NowTV for example) because they thought the phone was rooted. I installed the international ROM from the Xiaomi website and that fixed that problem. http://en.miui.com/download-274.html

I didn't particularly like the MIUI interface, but installing the Nova launcher made a big improvement.

Lovely phone for the money.

It's worth investing in a spare battery, they're dead cheap from various Chinese websites. They're out of stock at Gearbest, but I bought one from AliExpress and one from Everbuying, and despite the low price they appear to be genuine. They last as long as the one that came with the phone, unlike some cheap phone batteries I've bought in the past.

Hey Flea,
I am considering getting the Redmi Note 3 Pro from the Dreami link which you posted up. Still debating whether to get the 3GB ram version of 2GB version.
I had a couple of questions:
1. Do you know whether you can flash anything other then MIUI on it? CM13 for example?
2. I believe you mentioned that you've bought phones from them before, just want to confirm that it is Dreami that you bought your phones from.
3. Do you know whether the battery can be replaced? It sounds like your in the IT business so I thought you may know whether it can be opened or not.
4. I have used MIUI 7 on my Galaxy S4 and had the following issues, can you advise whether you have had these issues before:
- GPS: I had to do a lot of fiddling around to get GPS working
- Google Chrome: With the build of MIUI 7 I have used on Galaxy S4 Google Chrome didn't work. It was a known issue, pages simply to not load, all other browsers worked apart from Chrome
- International numbers were not recognised, for example +44 numbers which are saved in my contacts where not being recognised when I had incoming calls, so I had to replace them with 0. Is that an issue with the Redmi Note 3 ROM?
- What PORT does it have on the bottom? USB Type C or the older style?
- Do you reckon MIUI 8 will ever come to the Redmi Note 3 line? Do they continue to support older devices like Cyanogenmod do?
I am currently looking into a replacement for my S4 and I was thinking of getting a refurbed S5 but the Redmi Note looks really tempting.
Thanks!
Howdee ceanth,
I will do my best to answer your questions.
1) The phone is supplied locked, but there is information on XDA on how to 'fudge' unlock the phone using a patched file. You can request factory unlock from Xiaomi though their website, (I have done this) once its manifacture unlocked you should be able to install any rom you like, there was a few on XDA and some also on Xiaomi's own forums.
2) I used Dreami from aliexpress. I think their entire name is Hong Kong Dreami.
3) Its a sealed battery, so I personally would not bother trying. But saying that, there are other phones that have sealed batteries that have guides for changing. So I can't really help on this one.
4) Not really tested GPS much.
- Chrome works fine.
- Just looked at my contacts, I have them as +44 7967 XXXXXX ect, and when they call it comes up with their contact details/name but shows the number as 07967 XXXXXX.
- Mini USB not type-c.
- They release weekly dev builds which is more than the 'major' brands do. But with any phone, updates are not guaranteed.
Now the phone is £102 with a possible 7.5% cash back. Sure you could sell it on for cost if you don't like it ?

Flea
Cheers Flea,
Sounds really good. The last thing I would like to know is how much 4G i will get out of Vodafone, also if you are able to advise which network's 4G will not work on the Redmi Note 3.
If I get it im probably going to go for the 3GB ram version as I don't like to change phones often so my logic is that i'll go for the best I can get at this stage so it lasts longer.
Hey bud, MIUI8 is confirmed for the entire line in Redmi Phones. Also, I don't think it will work on Vodafone LTE but you can check here http://willmyphonework.net/

Thanks for this info. I ended up buying a UK based device. The website you gave actually suggests Vodafone 4G will work on Band7-2600MHz.

Anyhow I guess I am out now, which is a shame since Vodafone is the only network which works in my flat so I am stuck with it :(
Hi, Only just got back round to trying to sort this. Am i right in thinking if i request the xiaomi unlock code i can then use the update app on the phone to get the global rom. As currently I can only access the chinese version.
I have manually downloaded the global stable rom but it won`t verify the update (i assume it it protected)
Sounds good, I think it's a good idea then to get the unlock code & maybe join you on the falkland isles . Do they send a link to the global ROM as well then? I know the ROMs are posted up on the guides but seems straight forward doing it this way.
Wildcard
Hi again Flea, got my new phone last week. All looks very good so far (arrived sealed & build quality looks superb), did you get the unlock code from the official site ok from xiaomi. I don't think I will be setting it up for global ROM for a few days yet(I will let my mate help who does a lot of these type things) Also I read on another post on here somewhere that someone was running his with the Chinese rom still and was happy with that? I think he just installed the play store on it as it came, main benefit was for OTA updates I think? I have read the comparison & think the global ROM is the choice for most and is what I intend to do.

Yes I got a text with my unlock code and a link to the software you needed to do it.

Running the global rom, only downside was I could not select England as the local, so I went for Falkland Isles. Actually got an OTA update to the global ROM today, nice to see Xiaomi are doing the updates.

Very happy with mine for the price, battery life is awesome.

Regards
Flea

Many thanks for the info fleabum. It sounds like you are a bit more knowledgable than me but I know a little bit myself & have had a look at the guide. It sounds like most are putting the global ROM on it themselves. Let me know how you get on? It sounds like different sellers put different ROM versions on so I thought like you it made more sense to get a sealed box version and sort it myself.
Enjoy
Not a problem, always try to help.
I have just flashed global rom onto mine, fastboot version 7.3.2 (kenzo_global_images_V7.3.2.0.LHOMIDD_20160419.0000.19_5.1_global). I used this guide to help out along the way :- Tools, Tips & Tutorials - MIUI DEVICE TEAM - Flash (Unbrick) Redmi Note 3(SD) with Locked Bootloader
I have also asked for a Xiaomi legitimate unlock code from their website here :- http://en.miui.com/unlock/. With this I should be able to install any rom on it I please with little hassle, but it does take upto 10 days they say.

you sure its not a power profile being applied? Mine is fine, but sometimes the profile turns off mobile data e.g at night time.
I'm wondering if this has something to do with the alarm not going off, it powers down to a low state.
Worth being aware that xiaomi handsets have an aggressive battery management system that terminates background apps. If any apps are failing then change their individual battery profile. Took me a while to make my RN2 play nice with my pebble for that reason.
Not played with alarms but I know from the outset it went into a sleep mode overnight so that could be the issue there too.
Was wondering about the sleep mode, but miui clock seems ok now, where as the google one was the problem. Miui certainly has more areas to fiddle with than standard android, pluses and minuses with that!

Definitely. Once you're aware of it then things are fine. But I was losing sanity and hair trying to work out why the pebble kept being forgotten about!

elephone p9000 looks better to me :p
In many ways it is. But the Redmi note 3 has the faster snapdragon 650, bigger battery and arguably better manufacturer Xiaomi. The P9000 has 4Gb RAM and a Sony camera which may well be better, NFC, and type c quick charge. Not sure about how the screens compare. The P9000 also has all the required UK frequencies..

Also look at the Ulefone Future, http://ulefone.com/products/future/features.html
And Elephone M3

Meizu M3

elephone p9000 looks better to me :p
finbaar : This is 16gb model
I have had my RN3 Pro 32gb model for a few weeks now. It is a truly impressive piece of kit. I moved to it from a OnePlus 2 and I buy a lot of phones (6 last year).

Pros
Firstly the battery life is amazing. I am exceptionally hard on phones when I am at work due to the fact the phone signal is weak and I use it a lot. Looking at it now it has 68% left after 7 hours. Usually I would have had to top up by now. The RN3 just lasts all day no problem.

MIUI is great, fast, smooth and feature rich. I used to flash it to phones and it was my second favourite rom after CM. If you don’t like the launcher just install Nova or whatever.

The build quality is very nice, particularly for the price. It isn’t to heavy either. The screen is decent.

It takes an SD card. I tried a 64gb one and it didn’t recognise it until I formatted it in another phone. Only 32gb cards are officially supported.

Cons
It is a big device, but it has a big screen. The footprint is smaller than an iPhone 6+ though.

The fingerprint sensor is decent but I have to map each finger twice for it to work properly.

Flashing the global rom was easy for me but might not be if you are not use to that sort of thing. However I strongly recommend doing so. Xiaomi issue regular updates and you will miss out on these with a custom rom. Also unlike the China rom Google apps are preinstalled and all Play Store apps are compatible (not so with the China rom).

No NFC (not an issue for me) and no band 20 (again not an issue for me as Three haven't rolled out any LTE where I live never mind switching on 800MHz).

The official global rom is V7.1.8.0.LHOMICL
If you've got something other than this the likelihood is that the seller has installed their own rom onto the device. You might want to look into flashing the official rom direct from the miui site so you know that you haven't gotten something with hidden aware on (it does happen). It'll probably be more stable as well. http://en.miui.com/download-301.html
Thanks, you are right it is a custom 7.1.9.0.0 LHOCNCL rom installed, it doesnt let me go back to 7.1.8.0
hmmm, interesting
Have you tried downloading the global stable rom, then flashing through erect very or the miui pc tool? Instructions here http://en.miui.com/thread-247543-1-1.html
Thanks for your help, all sorted now with global rom installed
How did you do it please?

I followed the instructions here

http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

First I put the chinese stable rom on and then repeated the process putting the global one on. It looks quite daunting but its not too bad, just read everything thoroughly. The biggest issue I had was the phone being recognised by my PC as an Android ADB device.

All you need is a WIndows PC running x64 (64 bit operating system).
If you don't reflash and wipe any of the phones you get from resellers you're mental, well documented a lot of them come loaded with malware and keyloggers. Doubly stupid when this actually has an official global rom.

As for Marshmallow....I've had a few Chinese phones now & while UI update OTA are common I have never received an OS update

So for the money, is this THE phone to get?

Certainly up there. Ludicrous specs for the money (compare this with what you would get from a UK-sourced mainstrean brand and burst out laughing!). There are obviously downsides, i.e forget about any meaningful warranty as you would to return it to China for repair and that would be VERY expensive!

I'm a recent convert to buying from China and now would never buy a UK-sourced mobile again. Happy to take the risk regarding warranty (what %tage of mobiles actually break down in their first 12 months anyway?) and after doing lots of research it was between this and the Meizu MX4 Pro. Similar prices (Meizu maybe 10 quid more). I went for the MX4 Pro in the end as whilst the specs for the Redmi are fantastic for the asking price the specs for the Meizu are just crazy. No dual SIM but that's not a deal breaker for me. The Meizu DOES have NFC, 3GB RAM, QHD+ screen and OTG support though.

Horses for courses.

Sounds like a good deal but be aware when ordering from Gearbest EU warehouse.

My experience: Ordered mobile from EU warehouse. Surprised to receive it from the far East by DHL. A week later received invoice from DHL to pay customs charges. Contacted Gearbest who say that EU warehouse was out of stock so they shipped from China warehouse and now refuse to pay the DHL charge. Did not inform me that EU warehouse was out of stock. Be warned.
Damn. Somehow my company name has gone missing off the address and so Hermes are sitting on it. No idea who to contact to get it redelivered but annoying as the postcode is only for two business in one building with a shared reception so they obviously didn't even bother trying... For info for anyone else buying from the Gearbest warehouse - http://www.oneworldexpress.com/ will give tracking info a lot sooner than hermes will as they are the 'eu warehouse'. The tracking info is at least 6 hours ahead of gearbest...

Edit: Looks like my email to one world express worked - Its been relabeled and is back with the courier! Hopefully tomorrow?

Edit 2: In case anyone finds this - It arrived Tuesday. Cracking phone for money. Pain needing to flash it to get a supported ROM from xiaomi.eu but for just over £100 I'm not complaining.

is there an sd card slot on the 16gb?
No SD card on ANY Redmi Note 3. Personally I'd go for the plastic Note 2 and stick one of those metal bumper cases on it. They cost less than £2. The Redmi Note 2 16GB (with SD card slot so probably not necessary to go with the 32GB version) costs just £82 herehttp://www.everbuying.net/product1120445.html

Originally I looked at this but after playing with the redmi note 2 for a while I wasn't keen on it anymore..
The MTK chip is annoying and the forum support for note 2 is really unorganised (ie seems like not many has this phone so therefore not many threads or users developing this).
All I'm trying to do is flash developer rom and put gapps on it :( taken 2-3 days so far of force closes and unexpected errors (I've used android and tinkered since android 1.5)...
They've sold almost 10 million of these, which I think is plenty. Also, putting a Rom on is easy, there's forums on Xda. Putting gapps on is very easy, type in google on the mi app store, click on second link (search on beidu) and it should come up. It will be in chinese but it doesn't matter. Install the app and press the blue button then install the gapps. easy
This is Chinese rom yes? I'm trying to avoid this because of malware etc.
Global doesn't have Mi store?
I use the miui stable rom. You can change the language of it after the initial set up which is what I did. I've been using it for almost 2 months now and have experienced no issues tbh. I just installed a custom recovery and then rooted my phone so I could uninstall/ freeze some bloatware but other than that its good. If you want the stock look, there's also an aosp rom so you can get the stock look.
Wouldn't the malware just take your details once you log onto the account? (ie sign in or up to Google etc?)
What Malware lol? There isn't any. Miui even has its own security software.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 for £110.12 at AliExpress

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is currently selling at £115.41 at AliExpress.com, but the seller is offering a $8 (£5.29) voucher bringing down the price to £110.12. This is much cheaper than many of the offers

Was tempted but no SD card slot, 12gb isn't a lot. Also non removable battery though willing to forgive due to 4000mah battery, assuming it's accurate.
For another £30 would bite for 16gb, SD slot and 3gb ram
You can use the second SIM slot as the micro sd slot in case you need it. So not really an issue :)
I'm afraid you can't use the second sim slot to expand the storage. That is not supported on this phone.
this or smart ultra 6?

All those Chinese resellers are as woefully crap as each other when it comes down to it, trust me.

dont trust aliexpress. ive heard so much bad reviews compared to other reliable buyers like banggood
Actually AliExpress is the safest way to buy junk like this. They keep the money in escrow and the seller doesn't get a penny until either you're happy with the item or a considerable amount of time has lapsed.
dunno. i guess it pleases some, but not others. i personally would only order from banggood. not really fussed if its gonna be like £10 more as i know i wont be scammed there..

i got the note 2 and it's excellent (as it has TIF card and dual sim) the only difference with the note 3 is a better frame rate on video and a fingerprint scanner...to get the best out of note 2 just root it (it doesnt affect warranty and easy to do)
Here's the cheapest on ebay and its a UK seller, so lots less hassle...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-2-5-5-FHD-16GB-2GB-Black-Grey-Dual-Sim-Unlocked-Smartphones-/121801505660?hash=item1c5bef7b7c:g:mtQAAOSwo0JWMwJf

I bought a note 3 from sainsburys website in march it was a 'furb' but I'd grade it a* as new and it was 200, loved it but then got note 4 thru work and sold the 3, I missed the memo on the s view case tho, why that isn't on the 4 I don't know, but a note 3 handset only came up on curry's eBay for 149 so I snapped it up, again mint condition but just phone and battery, it's on 5.0 and is perfect, this still warm tho
Still have mine which I picked up on O2 Refresh deal for £216 back in Feb and great phone but I'd say this is a touch pricey being 2 generations behind and alternatives available.

EDIT: This most likely isn't getting Marshmallow by the way but 5.1.1 starting to make rounds in US.

Just got an edge plus, but I still love my old. Note 3. Great phone when it was released, and still is.
How do you find the edge plus in comparison to the 3, I wanted a Note 5 but Samsung didn't release over here. I have a Note 3, bit slow or a few jumped frames here and there on Jellybean.
The folks over on XDA have Lolipop 5.1 on the Note 3 good upgrade to Jellybean...http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/orig-development

Thanks, sorry just realised I meant to write "lollypop" it's on Android 5.0 officially, is root safe? as in can your data be hacked / stolen when using root?

Great big mobile but mine lasted a few months!!!! 3 repairs by Samsung which were cow boys. I told them what was wrong they fixed something else !! Was in tears

Vodafone claimed they repaired my camera after a week of owning the device. 2nd repair still not fixed. And even a new replacement was acting up.

But the rest of the phone worked perfectly. Just low light and steady shot mode were terrible and would produce tears across the screen.

I barely used my note 3 camera as results were beyond crap at tines. I'm shocked it was rated so highly for its camera. I had 2 different phones note 3 from Vodafone and both weren't up to par.

The s6 edge I got yday the camera smashes my note 3, but reviews say both cameras should be equally as good. which the note 3 isn't, unless it's under perfect sun light.
Cold, android is an unheard of operating system.

Can I ask if anyone has found a way to remove the EXCESSIVE bloatware that o2/ Samsung include on this handset.

The pre installed apps are continuously updating, killing my battery life and I don't want half of them.

Ideally I would like to get the phone to a lean state without rooting.

I would ask people to share their experiences and suggestions, about managing the bloatware on this o2 refresh handset.

E.g might one possiblity be to get stock google lollipop on this handset. Could it be done without rooting?

Thanks in advance,

Libertas

ugh trust me to receive a faulty phone. It arrived with bubble wrap but not the protective screen sticker which some of you were saying. In low light conditions on the camera, I have vertical lines appearing ramdomly on the screen. I have paid off all the device and cancelled the rest of it. I only noticed it because I were playing around with the camera at nite. Its fine in normal light conditons. I hope they will replace my handset.
Did you got the replacement? Mine having problem with camera its all blur all the time. Sometime it just clear and if i take one picture then it back to blur again
Yeah i got a replacement and the camera on that is faulty too. o2 said they wont replace it as its my second replacement so i have to take it 2 a o2 shop for repair and thats if they repair it, oh and plus o2 have took £21.76 out of my account!! o2 say in the terms and conditions even though i cancelled my air plan and paid off my device in full once my phone was depatch o2 will charge per day till the air time was cancelled and that i will receive a partial refund once the new bill has been generated. I never touched the sim or activated it, I will see on Monday how much they have refunded me, if its not the full amount then i will be having words once again. Me personally i dont know if i am one of the unlucky ones but 2 faulty phones at once is not just a coinidence, customer faulty returns or slight faults i presume some users mine not notice them.
Can you tell how you got the replacement. I tried O2 they said i cancelled the contract so I have to check with the manufacturer warranty. Can you explain a bit more about the problem. Mine camera is just blur both video and photo. If I pressed just above the flash on the rear side the blur goes away for few minutes and backs again. I wonder it just the rear lenses have some problem. Did you had the same problem. I notice the vertical lines very rarely. How you got the replacement did you got after the cancel the contract or before. Did you try the manufacturer warranty?. I had the same problem they charged me as well. But they said O2 will refund the entire amount.
I phoned the o2 pay monthly team and asked for a replacement and they sent someone the nextday to do a phone swap at the door, which was also done even after i paid for the phone, but it has to be within 14 days of receiving the phone otherwise you will have to send it off to o2 repair team or you can just drop it in any o2 shop and they will send it off for you. I think every camera is blurry until the lens focuses on the particular object. My photos looked washed out in low light conditions and also grainy compared to my mums note 3. Her camera looked smooth on the eye and colours looked better.

Yea I agree. It will be blurry till it focuses but mine even after focuses its blurry too. As i mention earlier i have to do some things to clear the blur.

Damn, just got direct debited £23 ish quid from my account from o2 and received another email saying:
In total, your bill for this month comes to £430+
Have contacted them via live chat and they've assured they've nullified future charges and and I will be credited back the £22 ish quid (they minus 1 day of "service" for between the day i ordered the sim and the day I received it (it was next day delivery)). Freaking stupid since they're charging something never received yet???? The sim is still sealed in its package and I called the same day I received it to cancecl!
Grr...

My advice is get all over this immediately.

I have said this on several posts now, 02 are shocking and do this all the time. What is a relatively simple process gets messed up. They debited me 450 twice, then claimed I was not paying my bill for 4 months and ruined my credit score. In the end I had to submit the contracts they sent, proof that I paid the refresh deal off the next day and also get the Mobile ombudsman involved. This went on for 6 months.

Finally earlier this month I received a formal letter of apology and compensation. It was not worth the hassle at all.

Yes its easy. Yes its simple but you are dealing with retards who will end up causing you a lot of money & stress if you are not all over them.

Exactly the same thing just happened to me!! How do they get these simple things so wrong! Was told to cancel my direct debit which I have done so they can't take anymore money I don't owe :(

Same here. They really have messed up. Quick chat and screen captured.

I was told by an O2 Guru that these only had a 3 month warranty as they are refurbs?
Really? Think they got that wrong. From O2 site
"What is a refurb?
It's a used phone that's been restored to its original state, so it's as good as new. The phone's user guide is available on the manufacturer's website. View our refurbished phone terms and conditions. Comes with a 12 month warranty."

Went through this process for a HTC One M8. Spoke to many different gurus from O2 live chat, one said 12 months warranty. The last person I spoke to advised me that if you take the option of paying the device contract off and then cancelling the airtime contract, your warranty for the refurb no longer applies. He was adamant that because its a refurb, the warranty is provided not by the manufacturer but with O2 instead, and only applies as long as your refresh contract (airtime and device) are in place for the first year.

This alone was enough for me to return the phone, as its a choice between an out of warranty 2nd hand device with minor dents/scratches for £240, or buying the one from Amazon.de for a little over £310 brand new with warranty.

Just a heads up for those of you who are looking at O2 refresh refurb deals. It might be worth the risk, but buyer beware!
