Table Tennis Set Reduced to £2.49 (Two bats, net, 3 balls and carry bag) @ Aldi

13
In Aldi they've reduced these sets from £8.99, to £4.49 now at £2.49! It seems like a bit of a bargain, got two just in case the net is broken. Seen in store. (Stockton)

Perfect! I have a piece of MDF to go on my garden table and this will be perfect as normal nets are too big!
Coat the mdf with something weather proof, it will turn to a big soggy lump of mush the minute it gets damp/wet otherwise.

Great tip! This is one that was salvaged from an old carport but when I replace it I'll probably paint it to get the proper effect!

Cheap but good luck finding a table big enough to have a proper game.
Found one, funny thing it's called a table tennis table. ;)
Bought a different set in home bargains for £2 a few weeks ago. Has been great fun and can get a good rally going on a 5ft dinner table.

Thanks to the age discrimatory and "apprenticeship" loophole, Sports Direct isn't the only place paying less than the real minimum wage, never mind the dreamland "living wage" that is talked about but no one actually gets.

Not to mention the auto enrolment into the pension scheme which happens everytime you start a new job/contract. It is made difficult and usually frowned upon to opt out. Then the bs tax codes that you have to sort out. For people on "apprenticeships", temporary contracts, agency staff, zero hours etc it is a minefield of exploitation.

It is emotionally, psychologically and physically draining. For people with poor numeracy, literacy and low confidence it is nearly impossible to get a fair days pay.

I often wonder, why do people continue to have children in this country?. Smoke and mirrors at every turn. Mind numbing tv, Jeremy Kyle or shows about "benefits scroungers" or evictions and reposessions passed off as entertainment. False news, pointless wars, incredibly difficult to get proper health care and housing, the list goes on.

It is disgusting what they SD have done, but they are an easy scape goat for people to sneer at. And thanks to SD existence, atleast almost anyone can afford to dress their kids in okay looking sports gear. Poor people used to have rely on markets for Ascot trainers...

Own brand junk from the British slave traders Sports Direct.
Donnay WERE a 'good make'.

Then Mike Ashley happened.....

No brand (other than the 'Big 5-6') in SportsDirect are what they appear....
Uridium
Donnay haven't been a 'good brand' for many years now. It's just another brand name now owned by sportsdirect...so cheap Chinese made stuff, over inflated RRP stickers and then artificially reduced.
I'm not saying this table won't be any good but just don't fool yourself into thinking it's worth any more than the sale price

I remember when Donnay, Dunlop and Slazenger made quality tennis racquets, not any more.

Really wish sports direct didn't exist.

Very basic and simplistic game which becomes very boring quickly, even in 2 player local mode. Worth about £8 at most tbh.
If you want a no frills tennis game in HD this is a great game, if you want a lot of add on content or RPG elements then maybe you'll be disappointed or just enjoy the fact it's a bloody tennis game..!

If you grew up in the 80s and all you had to play was Pong then maybe you'd just enjoy it for what it is.
Not worth £15. Even the online mode made be bored af.

Good price but an awful game that does not deserve the name of Mario Tennis. Rushed to market missing a lot of content that is expected and no real story mode.

Yep, couldn't agree more. Bought it with the Bowser amiibo for about £20 I think and i've only been back to play it once.

Would not recommend if you are thinking of playing tennis regularly. Even spending just £6 more will get you something alot better. Ok for the odd hit I guess.
Any suggestions?
My sons just started since Wimbledon, started with this as it might just be a phase and didn't wanna shell out a decent amount if he was only gonna play a couple games.
What's a better option for £16 -£20 range for child and adult if he starts playing more often?
A racket which is in one piece is generally sturdier and better than these ones with a plastic "yoke" ( the bottom of the egg face of the racket, on good rackets its not a seprate piece, the egg shape is one piece). Also better rackets do not have seprate bars tracking into the handle. For an adult you would want one slightly heavier.
I'm struggling to find one for £6 more which matches ur description. Could u post a link to one please. Thanks

Even for £10 it would be too much $. The game severely lacks content which decreases the replayability it has to offer because even playing local multiplayer eventually gets boring so that doesn't save it from being terribly overpriced.

I have this table, it's ok, not great. It's not weather proof... When it says outdoor the instructions specifically say not to be left outdoors when not in use, not even covered. It is also in two halves that clip together, it's not one folding mechanism like the more expensive ones. Just so you know.
I've had this table for more than a year. It has always been outside covered, and everytime I use it is as new. The fact that its two haves is handy as well because you can actually play alone/practice if you have one half up and the other one down. My only advice would be to make sure you check the condition of the table when it arrives. one of the corners of mine was scuffed. I settled with argos for a £50 pounds refund as I couldn't be bothered with waiting for a new one, and the scuff actually does not impact on the use of the table.
Was training playing table tennis semi-professionally for a couple of year when I was a teen, I can tell you "practice with one half up and one half down" provides nothing more than a joke.... LOL
That Gump bloke seemed to get good playing that way.
thanks - ordered
Blasphemous
Does it come with the cover shown?
Yes it comes with a zip up frosted cover which is waterproof but can blow off. It also comes with net, balls and bats. The bats and balls are poor quality (the balls in particular don't bounce very well) but just buy a better set off Amazon.

I have never seen Smyths sell a Wii U game at a good sale price. They have had the occasional decent buy on a 3DS game. OP this is a shocker, but keep posting you can only do better after this :)
Even without the Amazon deal, you can still buy the game on Amazon for 24 and the amiibo for 10, making it STILL cheaper than this deal.

Great to see some sport deals, however this is a rubbish racket

I believe for kids that a good racket (like a good instrument) will inspire them to take it up.

well i did see a date of more stock arriving on the 20th
What do you guys think the chances of getting this through chat are without first placing the order? Don't really want to risk them saying no, but was intending to buy this within the window they specified!

I managed to get it through chat, it is still on but OOS through Amazon but since they have no option they offered to waive the Amiibo charge once I placed the order. All done during chat.
Yeah Amazon customer services are great. However in this scenario you are buying off someone else and they are giving you something off themselves for free, which is just crazy...

Maybe you just got lucky and got a Newcastle fan on the chat?

This has suddenly started popping up cheap everywhere. Is there another amazon bundle incoming?

It's the Selects version so there is frequently going to be prices around this ball park. Even the original version has been as low as a tenner on occasion.

You now get a free Amiibo for the same price, so you might want to update your post. There's a small number to choose from the 'Super Mario' collection.
Still not worth this. Sub £15 at least, in reality it's 7 quids worth of a game.
Even though its Mario I think this game has a chance to go as low as £10 in time. Hopefully Mario & Sonic Olympics drives the price down.
I really want it for my collection, despite the lack of content lol
the game play is solid, i do agree that the mushroom is annoying but playing the simple mode without gimmicks is all you need to do.

You expect dlc from Nintendo? Keep dreaming.
Super Smash Bros has DLC, in fact, toted up, the DLC costs more than the game!
It's all a bit of a joke now from Nintendo, I can buy the Ryu Amiibo for SSB, but if I want to play AS him, I have to pay for the character as well.
Disgusting and shameful practice.
Yeah I know - I bought the Yarn Yoshi amiibo when it was £9 on amazon & was surprised & disgusted that I then needed to pay for the Yoshi's Woolly World game as well - it's absolutely shameful Nintendo money-grabbing tactics!
I'll assume that's sarcasm, since who would believe they'd unlock a whole game from buying an Amiibo.
I'd just like it that when I get my son T2L stuff, they have useful unlocking functions.
Fair enough, I guess. As far as the Ryu amiibo goes, you would seem to prefer that the amiibo unlocked the DLC character? Or you would prefer it if they didn't release figures of DLC characters? Or maybe you would prefer Nintendo didn't do DLC at all? Obviously, it would be great if amiibo unlocked in-game DLC (ie Smash Bros characters) but then particular figures would need to cost more to account for this which would mean that people who bought the DLC would be paying excessively for something they already owned. I'd say amiibo functionality is pretty pointless in most games anyway although it's kind of necessary (to be pointless) otherwise Nintendo would be accused of locking valid content behind a paywall - which they often are by some people anyway, regardless of how trivial the 'extras' are. For example, of the 100 (approx.) amiibo how many do you consider to have useful unlocking functions? I think amiibo seem best suited simply as collectible figures & any in-game features are a bonus. Obviously this all just my opinion!
So it's fine that you can buy a figure from a game... but if you wanted to play as that character in that game, you'd have to pay again?
Isn't what I said fairly common sense? I wasn't asking (sarcastically what you asked) that an Amiibo unlocked full games.
Shall we all just buy the Mario Amiibo n enjoy MK8, SSB, SMB n SM3DW?
What I'd like is for the Amiibos to unlock their respective characters in game.
That's not difficult, that shouldn't incur a vast charge, I remember a time when unlocking characters was done by the simple pleasure of completing the game.
Is the industry that hard up, they want to strip a game of items and objects and then charge to put them back in?
I don't see why you would expect anything else when buying amiibo - & it's much the same as buying the Yoshi amiibo & being surprised it didn't unlock the game as you've bought the toy without having the relevant software (full game or DLC doesn't really make any difference). None of the other Smash Bros amiibo characters are any different as far as unlocking extra content.
That's because most are playable from the start in SSB.
If you can't see much difference between developing a WHOLE game and the practice of extending that game by then working on DownLoadable Content, then I can see why you have trouble understanding my point.
I see the difference - I'm just pointing out that you think amiibo should unlock paid content (ie characters that you would otherwise have to pay for) - content which has been developed by Nintendo in addition to the main game & for which they have decided to charge. In your example, you have bought a toy & you don't have the correct software to use it with - regardless of whether the software is a full game or just paid DLC it doesn't really matter.
I think we've hijacked this thread long enough.
Our opinions differ, but as a (sort of) owner of loads of different brands of T2L, I'd say I speak for the majority that believe the figures should unlock the characters in-game.
You only need to check Skylanders, Disney infinity Star Wars and Lego Dimensions to see that using the figure on its respective portal/platform to play as the character is PAR for the course in this industry.
Ok, I guess that's fair enough & I do realise that's how the other toys to life stuff works. It's just that's not how amiibo work as there is no 'core' amiibo game so you just get a lot of pointless 'perks' across different titles instead so I guess you just disagree with the amiibo concept as it is at the moment.
