Free Lego starts in The Sun this Saturday (27th October 2012). It lasts for 9 days - 9 to collect. See The
Sun webpage for details.
I did think it seemed early to do this promo. I have two boys who both love lego and it is normally on around the time of both their birthdays which are Mid may and late october so above dates sound much more acurate to me thean the OP's. OP just had the wrong dates i imagine. I am sure the promo will be on nearer the end of the month. I think the sun normally anounce it on their FB page if you want some pre warning!

Scottish people are Scots not Jocks..
Stick to your Sad rants.

What about the "Jocks and the Geordies" in the Dandy, I'm sure the Jocks were Scottish :-)
I find neither expression offensive but I am neither Scottish nor from Newcastle. However, it need to be pointed out that it was once considered acceptable to use words like '****', '****' and 'sambo' - even in the most enlightened context (see Lindsay Anderson's short documentary, 'Thursday's Children' narrated by none other than Richard Burton) in which a character called 'Black Sambo' is used in a classroom of deaf children. It was also considered acceptable, even by the church, to own another human being and execute them if you so much as suspected them of a misdemeanour.

When I was in the Royal Navy, it was normal to call Scots 'FRISPs' and to my shame, the acronym still slips into my consciousness.

What bothers me, as an agnostic WASP, is that when somebody expresses their unease at a term being used, the user then feels licensed to use it as a weapon, as happened earlier in this thread.

Or are you a secret troller?
Trying to take the moral highground by pointing the finger at other users, but still intent on using rascist slang words (you posted again with 9's instead of g's) and also FRISP etc - was this just an excuse to use these words?
then you deem yourself by religion - white anglo saxon prtestant I assume you eman by WASP?

Jock is hardly a derogative term, it was used loosely due to the segregation of the Scottish and the English when they supported King James, or also referred to as a commed Christian name/or another term for John/James

This is HUKD not the Telegraph forum on politics, come down from that horse and have a bit of fun will you
Huh!? You evidently do not have the capacity to read full sentences, e.g. I said I was an agnostic WASP.

It doesn't matter how a name is derived if it is used derogatively, 'Sambo' and the 'N word' you are too offended by even to read it in context being perfect examples. How many Scots are called Jock? Very few, as it happens, which I can verify as I live in Scotland. Likewise Micks in Ireland and Taffs in Wales.

My point, which evidently needs explaining again for you, is that stereotyping even by collectively using a common name, can be construed as offensive. But I think that because you cannot distinguish between calling somebody a name and using that name for purposes of explanation, you may never fully comprehend much more than the editorials in The Sun.

Its a fact that Colonel Sanders has big sheds in his garden, but nobody's allowed in. And in these sheds he has 20ft high chickens, and these chickens are scared because the don't know why they're so big, and they're going, "Oh why am I so massive?" and they're looking down at all the little chickens and they think they're in an aeroplane because all the other chickens are so small!

maybe because it involves the sun, thats why i voted it cold anyway, to be fair though other deals on here from this scummy newspaper get really hot so dont give up yet.;)

im merely alerting people to the fact that these are on the horizon. I missed the ones by the mirror earlier in the year and, but for the grace of god, almost got scalped for some on fleebay (a set of 7 went for £25! i know because i bid £20 like a sucker.)

If people are voting cold due to their own personal opinions then they take away its visibility for people who might be waiting for these to come around again, which is against the whole ethos of sites like this. The sun has nothing to do with this deal other than they made a few phone calls and will print the tokens. Thats it.

I personally dont care either way. HUKD don't pay me enough. Just raising awareness. Take it or leave it, just leave my momma out of this.

If the met office is to be believed then we should be in for a late summer... at least it will have stopped raining by sept, so hopefully these will kick in just in time.

Went to Cofton country park in Dawlish, Devon last year, monday to friday for the princely sum of £4, less than a portion of fish and chips. Usually at that time of year they charge £15 a night... saving £56.

I'm unsure why people are voting this cold. Can anyone enlighten me?

You do not need conclusive proof that not one person robbed the injured. Innocent until proven guilty, not the other way round.

I think Glasgow celtic have been seen with a JFT96 banner.

Yet, considering what the sun said about Liverpool, Liverpool FC has made even more repulsive comments.
Chivas Regal
I'm sure the Germans are ashamed of Hitler and what he stood for! The S*N however couldn't give a damn as long as they sell their paper!
What you need to think of it is if your son or daughter died two days ago falling off a boat, completely sober and the the Mirror for example ran the headline 'DRUGGED UP DRUNK TEENAGER DIES WHILE TRYING TO KILL DOLPHIN' I think you might be a bit annoyed! Especially if the Paper knows it's a lie and they never apologise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now Liverpool fans don't buy the S*N and to be honest neither do a lot of other teams fans, with many teams having their own JFT96 banners etc!
This is why anything from that Rag gets us annoyed and it will always be that way!

Justice For The 96!!!!

Does anyone have conclusive proof that not one person robbed from the injured.....if some individual/s drunk as a skunk did stoop that low (which is possible) they are not likely to admit to it.

The papers print garbage all the time, always have done and always will, they are as bad as each other.

As far as the tragedy goes, think the fans also need to accept some responsibilty themselves.

You can bet the vast mojority of supporters buses each Saturday will have copies of the Sun on them.

Nice deal.

The Justice Bell
by Dave Kirby

A schoolboy holds a leather ball
in a photograph on a bedroom wall
the bed is made, the curtains drawn
as silence greets the break of dawn.

The dusk gives way to morning light
revealing shades of red and white
which hang from posters locked in time
of the Liverpool team of 89.

Upon a pale white quilted sheet
a football kit is folded neat
with a yellow scarf, trimmed with red
and some football boots beside the bed.

In hope, the room awakes each day
to see the boy who used to play
but once again it wakes alone
for this young boy's not coming home.

Outside, the springtime fills the air
the smell of life is everywhere
viola's bloom and tulips grow
while daffodils dance heel to toe.

These should have been such special times
for a boy who'd now be in his prime
but spring forever turned to grey
in theYorkshire sun, one April day.

The clock was locked on 3.06
as sun shone down upon the pitch
lighting up faces etched in pain
as death descended on Leppings Lane.

Between the bars an arm is raised
amidst a human tidal wave
a young hand yearning to be saved
grows weak inside this deathly cage.

A boy not barely in his teens
is lost amongst the dying screams
a body too frail to fight for breath
is drowned below a sea of death

His outstretched arm then disappears
to signal fourteen years of tears
as 96 souls of those who fell
await the toll of the justice bell.

Ever since that disastrous day
a vision often comes my way
I reach and grab his outstretched arm
then pull him up away from harm.

We both embrace with tear-filled eyes
I then awake to realise
its the same old dream I have each week
as I quietly cry myself to sleep.

On April the 15th every year
when all is calm and skies are clear
beneath a glowing Yorkshire moon
a lone scots piper plays a tune.

The tune rings out the justice cause
then blows due west across the moors
it passes by the eternal flame
then engulfs a young boys picture frame.

His room is as it was that day
for thirteen years its stayed that way
untouched and frozen forever in time
since that tragic day in 89.

And as it plays its haunting sound
tears are heard from miles around
they're tears from families of those who fell
awaiting the toll of the justice bell.

Is this relevant to the deal

I did not think the initial comment was so that is why i replied. Ia this relevant enough for you?

The Sun newspaper
On the Wednesday following the disaster, Kelvin MacKenzie, then editor of The Sun, a British tabloid newspaper with national distribution owned by Rupert Murdoch, used the front page headline "THE TRUTH", with three sub-headlines: "Some fans picked pockets of victims", "Some fans urinated on the brave cops" and "Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life".

The controversial front page of the Sun.
The newspaper cited the words of unnamed police sources and a Conservative MP for information relating to the alleged incidents.[56]
The story accompanying these headlines claimed that "drunken Liverpool fans viciously attacked rescue workers as they tried to revive victims" and "police officers, firemen and ambulance crew were punched, kicked and urinated upon". A quotation, attributed to an unnamed policeman, claimed a dead girl had been "abused", and that Liverpool fans were "openly urinating on us and the bodies of the dead" [57]. These allegations contradicted the reported behaviour of many Liverpool fans, who actively helped the security personnel to stretcher away a large number of victims and gave first aid to many injured.[58]
In their history of The Sun, Peter Chippendale and Chris Horrie wrote:
As MacKenzie's layout was seen by more and more people, a collective shudder ran through the office (but) MacKenzie's dominance was so total there was nobody left in the organisation who could rein him in except Murdoch. (Everyone in the office) seemed paralysed – "looking like rabbits in the headlights" – as one hack described them. The error staring them in the face was too glaring. It obviously wasn't a silly mistake; nor was it a simple oversight. Nobody really had any comment on it—they just took one look and went away shaking their heads in wonder at the enormity of it. It was a 'classic smear'.

Quote form Wikipedia. Maybe this is why feeling is still running high about this paper?

Its curious because whilst I completely agree that the Sun made up ficticious claims in recent years liverpool fans have:

Rushed the turnstyles in Athens, stealing tickets and arriving without tickets.
Attacked an ambulance outside Anfield stadium carrying a player with a broken leg.
Defecated in a plastic bag and chucked it into the away end at Anfield.

It's one thing to bear grudges against the sun but it would be consistent to boycott liverpool fc for their actions at heysel and since. Its double standards I'm afraid.

To be more specific it is not the boycott of the newspaper that is at issue. If you want to boycott it - fine. It is the moralising and telling other people what to do when Liverpool FC is itself a completely dispicable institution.

I find it ironic that the very people moaning about the sun in this thread are actually increasing its sales by bumping the deal, thus more heat, thus greater awareness of the deal

its a win win for tescos / the sun!

This isn't 4chan, you don't bump threads like that here. It only gets noticed by heat not postcount.

Maybe he meants that heat bumps it up the leaderboard

The people moaning won't be giving it heat.

heat is irrelevant - most people use Custom view sorted by DISCUSSED so every bump puts this in full view again for most people

Saynoto0870 for 01 numbers.
Is this kind of a farce? So If I went with some friends It would be £15 to get there but getting back would be a totally different cost? Also when I try to book it says listings aren't available (For nearly every date I've entered) so please call number. Surprisingly the number is 08716.

Has anyone actually booked it yet?
what duty free you are allow to bring back never been before

Lets say you wanted to stay until the next day...could you book two trips on consecutive day, and use the second bookings' return to come back?

No, they check that the first part of the ticket was used that day, if not they'll charge you the full price

What about buying two returns, one from Dover to Calais returning the same day and one from Calais to Dover returning the same day? The first part of each ticket would be used on both journey's, the second part of each return ticket would not. Job's a gudden, eh?

I tried that but the deals only on Dover-Calais, not Calais-Dover. Makes sense considering as the offer is with a British newspaper.

They do a 36 hour return fare for about £45. Allows you 1 night in France.

these are a ripp off :x

i booked a sun 9.50 hoilday which cost us £38 as its for 4 people and then with the entainment charges etc we need to pay another £75 :w00t: and this was with pontins . pontins called us to talk about the hoilday we had booked through the sun and they said they could give us the top aprtment not the basic one through the sun for the same week with free entainment passes etc all for £80 . so i would of been better off through pointns direct avoid sun hoildays just ripp people off call the comapny u want to saty with direct u get a better deal

-agree thats how third parties work its like an agent fee
anyone have a spare token , still need one plz
I've booked to go to st.ives in july :)
We used to think people were MAD going on a "Holiday In tHe Sun" but that was BEFORE going on one. We took the plunge 4 years ago and now go 2 time a year for the same price as one Holiday for 4. Yes it is true that the dates are limited but if you get in the online booking fast you can normaly get something good. The dates go VERY VERY FAST so booking on the day the site goes live is a must.

Thank you for the CODES!!

Rep + Heat added.

This is rubbish, how come people can book before the date stated in the letter I have received? I have tried several dates and many parks and none are available, anyone know how to get past this?

The booking site usually opens a day early, and then its a case of guessingthe last code. The booking is first come, first served - so if its a popular date you want they get booked up very quick. And not all parks are available for all dates.

Both of those articles are about Kelvin Mackenzie - near universally acclaimed as a grade A ******, whose mission in life, in his own words, is "to get the Lonsdale Belt for vile and be personally rude to as many people as possible".

But Mackenzie ceased being editor of The Sun in 1994 - fifteen years ago, so I ask again, what must The Sun do to be capable of being mentioned without an outpouring of bile from Merseyside?

Typical bleeding heart Scousers with a grievance! You'll never whinge alone on Merseyside...

The Sun has repeatedly apologised for its Hillsborough coverage, and none of the people that ran the Sun then run it now (including the then editor, the dreadful Kelvin Mackenzie). What does The Sun have to do to earn forgiveness from Scousers who're unhappy with it?

True, but this is not a lottery. It's getting a freeby with your paper. And it happens to be a lottery ticket. To be honest, this deal doesn't exite me... chances of winning are far too close to zero... and the Sun isn't my kind of paper...

If you haven't already started collecting the tokens it may be too late to get 10 tokens ( and the booking form was in last Saturdays and last Wednesdays Sun)

It's not too late to start collecting. Tomorrow (Wednesday) would be the last day you can collect (states that on the website- the token calendar) and you can print the forms that you need online from the Sun website. Hth

Anyone who does the Telegraph crossword regularly (or Times/Grauniad etc.) will know that these crosswords do not have the same complexity.

But for the casual user I think this is an interesting use of the DS. I don't understand the cold voting either - perhaps you are caught between anti-intellectual and anti-tabloid responses...
