Parts of Mexico are very safe for foreigners. I have not met anybody who has actually been to Mexico and said 'damn this place is scary'. Drug dealers are businessmen, and have vested interest in not scaring off foreigners.
Mexico feels like first world country but quite cheap to travel.
Voted hot.

26,037 people murdered last year in mexico vs 653 in the UK.
Just saying. ;)
Last years statistics are not released but for comparative analysis Quintana Roo (where Cancun is based in) had 163 of the 26,037 (0.62%). As with all countries (including our own) there are dangerous places. There were over 700 rapes in Las Vegas in 2014 but you know what, I think I'm gonna risk it as sampling what other countries have to offer remains appealing to me.
From a population of 600 hundred thousand still makes it highly dangerous.
London has a population of 8 milion and a muder rate of 83.
Which makes Cancun have 26x the murders of London.
Cancun has population of 600,000 and a muder rate of 163.

I'm not sure where you get your statistics from. Cancun is situated within the state of Quintana Roo. The 163 murders were in Quintana Roo which has a population in excess of 1.5 million so no, Cancun does not have 26x the murders of London. I don't think anyone has said it's the safest place on earth but the most dangerous thing I've seen over there was my mother in law drinking tequila.

I had a good time in Mexico City, saw the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon and spent 10 days in Cancun. Wasn't scared at all, the scary thing is sitting at home not having adventures.

Well you can count yourself very lucky and privileged that you can enjoy such a life but maybe spare a thought for the many Mexicans who's lives have been blighted by the brutal violence that controls their country?

"Cancun • The commander of the 34th Military Zone, located in Quintana Roo, General Anastasio Garcia Rodriguez, said that the police forces of Benito Juarez (Cancun) and Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen)" are infiltrated by drug trafficking, at least 90 percent. " (Taken from Borderland Beat)

It was cheap because you travel there the worst time of the year.

Nonsense! Yes, it will be hot (some like that) but the worst time of the year is hurricane season Late summer into autumn).

June is the worst month to go, yes it's warm but it is the month with the most rainfall, hurricane season is June to October.
MCGONIS
The people of London always get great deals!
yeah only because we have more choice of airports and more flights coming in and out. We get f***** over with almost everything else though.
Ive spent the whole summer in Miami before and it was hot hot hot.
Average temperature is 31 degrees in June. You can survive it but youll be boiling outside. Believe me the winter rates are the highest in that region and that for a reason!
I love hot temperatures but if you go on holiday you want to walk around outside and Florida is not the best place to do that in June.
To me this deal is not ideal but its cheap for sure. Might worth a try if you really want to do that.

so would you recommend hiring a 4x4 or something for the days when most things are closed and just drive somewhere like the plane crash site or one of the waterfalls ?

does anything happen on Christmas day to see or do ?

Nothing for me yet. From past experience they have always been quick to send out the tickets. Hope they come soon :(
Not got mine either. I sent the form off as soon as I had all the vouchers.

Hopefully that means they are sending them out in the order the tickets are dated as I wanted dates at the end of September.

Good deal. There are some nice restaurants in Calais and you can get the bus from the terminal into town.
Yep, just ask for london to calais that includes the ferry and you're golden. You'll just need to work out how to get from dover priory station to the docks and from calais docks into town (there are bus services, but not included in ticket price)

A side note: Ferries are so slow >_>

Edit:
Oh and be sure to go to 'reception' or 'signing in' at the docks as they need to validate your train card and have to give you special P&O tickets, otherwise you wont be getting on any ferry. You need to do this before you depart at both docks. (Signing in is 45 mins before scheduled departure) Also, if you're going for shopping, the buses in Calais are rubbish, and taxis are cheap compared to UK taxis...

Edited By: juangarcia on Nov 28, 2011 11:23
Guys just to clarify? If i go to Victoria station in London tommorow, all i need to ask for is a return trip from Kings cross to Calais? Which will also allow me to hop on to the ferry at Dover priory?

I dont think any of the replies have been snotty.

People point out that you need a passport, then some people come on giving wrong information saying that you dont, or that you can travel on a driving licence.

Schengen agreement dosent apply to the UK, so yes, you DO need a passport when entering the UK. Chances are you wont be let out of the UK without a passport.
Rubbish, there were several snotty idiot replies, including yours, which you are attempting to obscure by referring to somebody else's misinformation as the reason for your superior, insulting tone in your answer to the question.

I know the Schengen agreement doesn't apply to the UK, my point was the question wasn't stupid in the context of an educated person being aware of confusing exceptions and European integrationist accords, but thanks for condescending to me as well.
Some people are just not worth arguing with.
And yet here you are...

powerful_Rogue
My reply to you or anyone else was not condesending.

Um...

powerful_Rogue
Seriously people, your leaving the UK and entering a new country. You "Passing" the "Port". Of course you need your passport!

Pretty condescending I'd say.

powerful_Rogue
Schengen agreement dosent apply to the UK, so yes, you DO need a passport when entering the UK.

Why are you explaining stuff to me I already know? Condescending, by any chance?

powerful_Rogue
I hate people that post inaccurate information, espeically after people have already given a correct answer.
I share your distaste for online ignorance and misinformation, though I also find people who ridicule others without provocation at least as annoying.

powerful_Rogue
At least two people stated you dont need a passport to travel to France, despite there being posts prior stating that you do.
I don't have a problem with you or anyone else slating people who post misinformation, I do it often.

What I called you and others on is the ridiculing of the original questioner and question, as it is a perfectly valid one.

If thats what makes you happy. :{

I disagree with what you have said and just think you have interpreted things wrong. Anyway, its getting boring now. I think the points been covered more then enough in this thread.
If you do this, how much time do you get to spend in Calais? And what could you do once you get to Calais station?
is this just a case of go to a supermarket and stagger out with as much cheap wine as you can physically carry back to the train - and I doubt that a person could carry more than 12 bottles for any great distance, so you'd have to save > £33 on that lot to make it worth the cost - unless as I asked, there's more to do once you get there.

Right I'll start this off with saying DO NOT BOOK this holiday IF and ONLY if your flight is with Sky Wings (GSW) and not because of Greece's current problems; please read this whole post before replying!

Greece In General:

Greece has it's problems at the moment; but which county doesn't? Would you not go to Ireland because of the riots and attacks currently going on within a small area of Belfast city center?

End of the day Greece has many islands; Kos being one of them, Kos is 373km away from the riots in Athens City (mainland Greece) and Islands like Kos rely on there tourism to survive; hence are suffering problems at the moment because of ill informed comments like in some of these posts!

My Olympic Holiday Experience - "Having literally just returned"

I've just come back from Zante; had a truly wonderful holiday apart from the flights; The Greeks are desperate for tourists and can't understand where people are!

In particular to this deal though DO NOT travel with Olympic Holidays at the moment if your flight is with Sky-wings (GSW). you can check this on there website.

At the beginning of the year Olympic Holidays lost there long term (15 year) relationship with Monarch (a very respectable airline); manly for finance/contract differences. In the struggle to find replacement carriers for it's customers Olympic found "Cheap/Unknown" airlines like Skywings and Strategic to get them through the season..

I can guarantee you that if you book this holiday with Sky Wings you will experience at least some of the following:

- Hours of delays (in our case 8 hours out, 3 hours plus a engine fault repair delay on return)
- Unsafe on-board conditions (broken seats, use of gaffer tape to stitch rips and cover holes..)
- Missing or broken basics like seat trays with "do not use please; written on tape securing them"
- broken toilets; overflowing and a general stench of urine for the duration of your flight.
- Ill trained flight staff who have no idea what they are doing literally being trained as they fly.
- Flight crew literally in tears during the flight as they are "stressed" with the conditions themselves
- The plane we flew on even lacking basic first aid equipment required by one very ill patent.

This is really no exaggeration; I know this as I've just returned from Zante with Sky Wings booked via Olympic; in my 28 years of flying I seriously haven't even been more concerned for my family's safety.

These are advertised as "budget/no frills flights"; I truly wouldn't wish anyone; even my worst enemy to go through what myself, my family and two full loads of passengers have just gone through.

If this continues I really can't see how both companies won't loose there licences; hopefully before something happens.

I'm in no way telling people not to book with Olympic as I've traveled with them for many years; however if they continue to use Sky wings and conditions don't drastically improve I really don't see how Olympic will still be in business by the end of the season.

I cannot comment on Flights via Strategic Airlines which tend to be from Gatwick booked via Olympic however please please please do you research before booking.

the deal has expired anyway
Are you sure?

I cannot comment on Flights via Strategic Airlines which tend to be from Gatwick booked via Olympic however please please please do you research before booking.

great deal

the riots are in athens you morons

yes but its the COUNTRY's economy thats &*^^$ed up, so if workers and country men went on strike/riot that particular week, theres a high chance you could be stranded there

And if we all decide just not to go, Greece will be in an even worse posistion as it is now.

Who cares? It's their own fault for joining the Euro

I never said anyone cared, I was just pointing that fact out.

Cheaper with Club 18-30 on their website. Found holiday for 2, leaving on the 10th June for 1 week, from Bristol,London etc, transfers etc included. Choice of 3 hotels.
Yes Kavos is not the cleanest of places (I worked there for 3 years) but is a great laugh and a good party holiday!!!!! Kavos beach is a little dirty but there is a 'secret' beach which is a 15/20 min walk (possibly longer) down a dirt track, very clean and succluded (spelling?). Worth it just for the flights. The island itself is beautiful and there are buses that run around the island so very accessible.
for that price you could maybe even book accommodation at another resort , this is cheaper than the flights should be surely! Heat added !
yeah but its great for a lads/ladette holiday. heat added
Kavos is a real scummy place

Aslong as theres a bed and a shop to buy water and food then it doesnt really matter IMO, certainly not when your paying less than it costs for a Manchester to London train ticket to go to a wonderful part of the world, try not to be small minded Brits. We have ruined many destinations with our need for clubs, pubs, drugs, pros and general disrespectful behaviour. Just because somewhere doesnt have air con and there are stray cats doesnt mean its a bad place. Meh, take a look at an British city and tell me whats so great?
kavos you are right research no it was a late cheap deal now i know why.

last year went to cavos never again.

Kavos i take it you mean.

Did you research the resort before booking ? Its quite a niche place but there are some amazing places on the island.

"you dont normally see people who like the hotel go on a website and praise it for me to go it ?

people normally only do it if it's really bad - ?"

Agreed, usually, but Holidays Uncovered have lots of positive reviews too, and when you are spending what could be thousands of pounds it's worth doing a bit of research.

i need to speak to some of you people on here regarding holidays, was thinking of portugal to take me the missus and two kids, hoepfully all inclusive, having never been abroad before to search its become really daunting trying to compare the different things. there must be a easier way of doing it, do you focus on one hotel and then search for that, as i start off doing one thing and end up somewhere else with not what i want. heres the killer, because the kids are school age was thinking it will ahve to be the end of july!!! i know its not going to be cheap.

thanks, will keep looking, hard to try to find somewhere to go unless you know of someone that sbeen, guess theres a bit of reading up to do tonight. Hight street travel agent wanted 5.5k for the 5 of us to portugal all inc in july!!!!

Go to travelzoo, always good offers on there. If you're not going until July you're probably better off waiting until nearer the time for a late deal.
Check icelolly.com as well.

Who cares what the review is like Skiathos is a fabulous island. You only sleep there anyway.

You might do more than just sleep in your room. I stayed at the Panorama in Koukounaries a few years ago in May. It sheeted it down for 4 of the 7 days I was there. Learnt my lesson from that - never stay in just a beach resort - always better off in the town.

sundaygirl13
Who needs a pool when you have some of the best beaches in the world on Skiathios!

I would re-phrase that as some of the most over-rated beaches in the world.

However, not a bad deal for the price - Skiathos town has my thumbs up.

have heard it s very expensive in greece now5 to 6 euro s for a beer etc ....any one confirm this ?

Was only 2 Euro when we visited Zante last year provided you drink the local stuff (Mythos).
Depends where you drink I guess, some clubs may charge 5 to 6 Euro.

Mythos?
Meths? :)

Mythos as Myth
Fantastic deal, went a few years ago, really is a lovely place, agree about ti being expensive though
Went last year, lovely place and friendly locals, take your credit card though, VERY EXPENSIVE!
Loaf of bread nearly £3, beer nearly £5 pint, Lobster on the seafront in the town £80!!! I wouldnt self cater, its a false economy nothing is cheap and you will feel like you are paying thier national debt off in person.
Even the local supermarkets were not cheap, certainly way above uk prices, you might find some cheap Gyros in the backstreets if £2 for a few chips and a slice of kebab meat in a small wrap is your thing.
I considered going back to Greece this May but decided not to after the shock of prices last year.

Court Farm's ok, especially for kids under 8 or so. It could do with a bit of TLC but is nice for a couple of hours' fun, especially on a sunny day.

Worth this price, but no way worth the full asking price. went last summer and is lacking. There are much better examples of this sort of place.
