i bought the wonky carrots today, great value and couldn't tell any different from my usual carrots.
Me too, I bought all wonky veg for tomorrows dinner, Carrots, Parsnips, Potatoes and Cabbage , all good quality and not really wonky at all, just varying sizes with a few blemishes here and there. Under £2.50 and dinner sorted ( apart from the meat ) I thought it was a good deal which is why I posted it.
as long as it all edible it doesn't matter what shape it is .

I can - they're enormous! Way better value than the standard carrots, such a shame our Morrisons seems to run out of them so quickly too :(

Good old Brussels and the EU Power machine aboloshing 'wonky' veg years ago plus other laws forced upon us (pesticides, items not allowed to be sold in pounds and ounces). Another reason why I voted Leave. ;)

dont forger, we will simply be swapping one set of rules for another, 1 set of self serving Muppets for another. Nowt much will change ;)

Lol not sure if serious or trolling .

FYI The regulations dictating standards on appearance ,colour , size etc of fruit and veg got dropped by the EU in 2009 . Since then Its good wholesome British supermarkets like Tescos , Sainsburys ,Morrisons and Asda which have been upholding the standards by rejecting anything other than perfect class 1 fruit and veg .

As for pounds and ounces do you really think we are going to go back to those measures after we leave ?

Actually the 20% is applied on the FULL price of £1.66!! So it comes to 49.8p ... call it 50p! Wowzer.
83p half price - (20% of £1.66) =
83p - 33p = 50p total
no, it doesn't work like that. It will only give you 20% off the price the item scans at i.e. 80p. It does not give 20% off the £1.60 as you say. Bought 2 today so I know ;)
Ah ok - interesting.
I once bought a 2 for £5 deal at Waitrose, and it was part of my 20% picks selection. Each inidividual item was £3. When it came to scanning, it gave me 20% discount on £6 ... they might have changed their systems since then as it was a good half yr ago.
Still, 83p - 20% = 64p!
Great deal.
unless a pic of receipt is coming soon, i feel a cold snap soon not a sugar snap ... this example, is they scan at £3 so that is the way it works now. my pick simply does not SEE the multibuy.
surely you can copy and post the line on the receipt which says the discount given on the item.
I didn't get the discount ... someone else suggested that it qualifies so I amended the deal, hence why I have not posted the receipt (which i wouldn't do anyway ... this isn't my full time job you know lol). Feel free to do a cold snap or sugar snap or whatever makes your life feel complete
so you found a great deal, so good you did not get any. not forgetting quote "Sugar snap peas are amazing - crispy, sweet, great snack, good for weight loss" you changed the discount 3 times and you cant even get the original price right. the maths in your title is still wrong.
You really are a tool.
Thankfully the vast majority of people on here are grateful when someone makes the effort to post a deal.
thats my point, you havent posted a deal. its been wrong from start to finish.

Existing Barnsley branch do this, so I think this is pretty much confirmed as nationwide. No doubt the second branch due to open soon will also do Taco Tuesday.
the american taco bell is awesome... not sure about the UK ones :(

Very few in UK.
They could have been huge like subway but they chose to make sub standard food in favour of profits. Hence they didnt take off. Shame.
Subway's food quality is no better than Taco Bell's. Almost all of the meat products at Subway are imported from the US which makes no sense at all. US meat welfare laws are terrible, if anything Taco Bell (UK) is better than Subway because it's under the KFC brand and only uses UK/Irish meat. I think the main reason why Taco Bell hasn't made it here yet, is that people in this country just don't understand anything beyond Fajitas. The Taco Bell at Lakeside and the one at Basildon are good, yes it's a shame there's not many.

Is it the standard subs at Subway that are sub standard or are all their subs sub standard? What if the standard procedure for producing standard subs is actually resulting in the production of sub standard standard subs?
mattgrant
cactusjack86
If you have enjoyed Taco Bell in the States, steer clear of them in the UK. Awful.
Anyway ... back to the deal, where can you get a quick snack and bottle of Sol for £2?! Bargain in my book and was a great mid week treat.

Out and about, hardly anywhere. At home, easy.

Immaterial anyway if the snack is naff, I'd rather eat chalk.

I would however, take this deal, and ditch the snack. £2 for a Sol out and about is reasonable.
AMTF
there are a couple in Essex, one in Lakeside (I drove there a few times from High Wycombe just for Taco Bell) and one on Basildon. I think there's one in Manchester too, those were all the ones there were a couple of years ago when I checked

we have one in Chelmsford now as well :)

Best of luck with the sunflowers. My one are currently being eaten by squirrels. They either munch through the flowerheads or bite the stalks to cut them down.

I've just seen an add which shows super 6 at 39p not 49p but either way It's worth checking out.
I've always found Aldi carrots better quality than Lidl but the cauliflowers from Aldi don't keep well. However you look at it for 39p or 49p you can buy them and use them within a few days.
OttovonPrimark
robin5858
Hope these carrots are better than what saw recently in the newer Aldi of 2 in my town. They were slimy and rotten on the sheilf and were in date. A crate full.
Did report it to assistant store manager and to her credit she got them removed.
But got to ask why they were left on the shelf. Standards in this branch have gone down in my eyes.

I've been an Aldi shopper for over a decade. Never took to Lidl - don't think the quality is high enough and the store nearest me is a horror. But standards in my two local Aldi branches are slipping and products across the range are not as good as they were.

In the past nine-twelve months I've been doing more and more of my shopping at Sainsbury's.

edit - spelling

Agreed! when the salad stuff was on, the taste of the stuff was awful. So, when I ran out, I bought some stuff at tesco, ok cost a bit more, but so much better. Sainsbury's is good too. Shame about Aldi, I've been a shopper for the last 6 years and I noticed it going down hill the last year.

Thank you.
I shop @ ALDI And LIDL. My Local Aldi is top notch, I've never had an issue with any Fruit or Veg OR the quality of them.
My local Store is Polmont & Linlithgow.
Same goes for LIDL. I think this is simply down to individual stores and managers and staff working in them.
I rarely goto the big 4 supermarkets now, as they are simply more expensive for everything on the shelf & this adds up more over the months shopping bill with 5 in my family.

I have tried both and they are quite unique. The crisps is not oily at all while the fruit mix is crispy and full of flavour without any sugar added. Recommended!

You are correct, prices have been creeping up and the weight of a lot of items has been coming down. Some biscuits now have a lower weight but cost the same, tuna has reduced from about 160g to about 130g but same price and we noticed last week that the blue things you put in the toilet cistern to colour the water have reduced from a 4 pack to a 3 pack but will they still be 99p?

Still continue shopping there though.......

Us too. Still so much cheaper. We never get grapes there. Find them rubbish.

No wonder they are at 29p as at 49p would be about what normally are..... Cold
You realise your logic is ridiculous? They're 29p, and as 49p is 'what they should be' this deal is cold?

I agree. However to be fair, last week in Aldi broccoli was 35p, and a lot of veg is coming down in price. Broccoli even in Waitrose of all places can be bought at just 37p - mind you, if you're mad you can also pay nearly 2 quid for it!

The only thing cold is your attitude. Love how your profile mentions "Never pay full price" X) it would seem you are a hypocritical person? If it's normally 49p then it's a good deal. Much like if something is £49.00 but reduced to £29.00.... It would be a good deal.

Basically according to eu regulations a lot of veg doesn't meet the specifications for sale in the uk. It used to be just thrown away because for example the carrot was too fat or the cucumber was slightly curved. I'm talking hundred if not thousands of tonnes a year just thrown away at the farmers expense. Wonky veg has been introduced by a few supermarkets to see if we really care about how a carrot is too fat etc and also to try to prevent food waste. It's a stupid eu rule that has caused numerous farms to go bust. By labelling them as wonky they can get away with selling it.

as others have said it's nowt to do with EU regs-if you go to Sainsburys, their wonky veg is their 'basics' brand.

these boxes have been going on a while now in Asda but it's only in certain stores & they don't get many in at a time so they sell straight out. I've yet to find them in my store so can't comment on what you get for your money!
I got one last Thursday. Nice selection of items - potatoes, onions, carrots, leeks, pointy cabbage, orange peppers, cucumber, lettuce .... I think that was it. A bit more preparation time required as they're not in the pristine plastic packaging (they look more like actual vegetables), but they taste good. We had a nice selection with our roast this evening.
A brilliant idea but would rather call in at my local market and keep their business going than give to the big Corporates. It's cheaper as well!

I didn't think it was anything to do with the EU although stand to be corrected. It's the supermarkets saying they don't want it as customers won't buy it. Just about all the big supermarkets are selling veg that's not perfect. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall tv show.. war on waste... started it all off. Thursday this week he started on the coffee cups, as all going to landfill as they can't be recycled. Don't put your coffee cups in the recycling bin.... Go get um Hugh. He dose to

Aldi seems to be the only supermarket that doesn't put 'best before' dates on their fruit and veg.
Actually they have started putting best before dates on some bags. I must admit not all bags but they have started

They tend to put whatever number of week it is...maybe this is week 29 ?

Yawn...feel sorry for close minded people like this. Bet s/he is like that with everything in life.
Some of the best ones (especially the frankfurters) are from the Tivall range, but you don't see them around so much as Quorn seems to have taken over. When I became veggie 40 odd years ago there was very little choice. Now it's so easy!

Thanks for the heads up... What would you say are the best veggie burgers? I been veggie for just over 3 months now, aint going back. Feel so much better for it, more so than quitting fags and drink.

Some of Sainsbury's own are really good. They do a good spicy bean Mexican style burger and an Indian lentil one. Both great. Fry's do good chicken and beef style burgers which are pretty good too.
