I've been using the Northamptonshire library Zinio selection for ages, very good selection
Thanks for posting, usefull to know this
It's a good offer but be aware the library's can change what they subscribe to. In North Tyneside you have to pay to "upgrade" you card to allow you to access the magazines. After about a year they started to reduce the number of subscriptions and cut all the ones I was after!
Thanks, very useful,it will email you when new issues are released.
You need to sign up for a free Zinio account after you click on a magazine!

Wiltshire does not provide this facility :(
This is a tremendous offering - I found a posting about it on here over a year ago, and have really enjoyed using it. You can read the magazines on android, Ios, windows mobile and windows laptops/desktops. you can download and read them offline.
Nottinghamshire seems to have signed up to this big-style, so the range of magazines is brilliant. However, relatives in Herefordshire tell me this isn't available to them at all through their county library. It depends how your local authority chooses to spend their money.

I guess, in these days of cuts, you have to think which most benefits the community: free access to magazines, or social care for the elderly/good road maintenance/etc. ??
hah, i just posted this. i will delete. cracking deal for free!
Been available for years but not all local authorities have signed up to it.

Hi Guys,

I don't seem to receive the $5 vouchers anymore.... I used to receive them on both my accounts, and quite often too... I was wondering if Zinio still sends these vouchers or not...

Any suggestion on how to receive them again? I also renewed a subscription, so I have actually spent money with one of my accounts...

Thanks a lot to those who gonna reply.

Yes they still send them out randomly, the more free offers you take the more vouchers they send haha. I added my Zinio account to an Asus Memopad last week and received an email for another load of mini subscriptions and single issues. Remember it's only an incentive so they don't have to send out any discount codes / free subs etc

Glad it worked for you, you'll probably get a free $5 voucher code emailed to you soon too as that tends to happen after taking an already free deal from Zinio :)

I haven't got an email for a free voucher code, but some reason I got a bunch of magazines I didn't pay for added to my reading list, including one I was about to purchase that I thought was a little too expensive, so I didn't bother! Not exactly sure why I got these magazines for free, but I'm not complaining!

It's been so many years since i read computer/game mags. I used to have giant stacks of them, read them all cover to cover. It's a hard sell with the internet, everything in them is already weeks old news.

Ah but cover discs! How I used to love those. I don't even have an optical drive anymore though so not really very useful for me, heh

you don' get a cover disk - you get a code to plug into Steam ...

I finally realised that when I looked at it with my eyes rather than the quick scan and imagined idea of what it was :)

so, are you buying?

Already got it and I never buy any magazines anymore. It's all digital for me now and thanks to the tablet I can also read on the loo! ha

The reading is worth it. It was the pcgamer review that made me interested in the first place. I don't know if I have 100 hours [that kind of time went to guild wars and guild wars 2.... now you know why I didn't want to pay a higher price!
Yep I agree loved playing this , but the first time I played I was a lil drunk and stared for about an hour reading every bit of text and still didn't know how to do anything lol

That describes my first go at it perfectly but sadly, I wasn't even drunk. I'm afraid of that game now.

Twenty Six Pence.

And a $5 voucher that you could of spent on something more worthwhile, of course. (Don't ask me what)

True, but the thing is, i'm not willing to spend any real money on that site for a magazine i can only really "read" on an iPhone.

So for something like this, for a bit of minor titillation(so to speak), 26p is about the extent of what i'd be willing to part with.

I'm now set up and running for Bucks Library Services, who knew all about it when I popped in an asked. Many thanks for posting this info - for me it counts as the best freebie I have ever seen on HUKD.

Did you get pointed at a link online or was it all in the library? I'm in South Bucks as far as you know would that make a difference?

My local library (Princes Risborough) runs occasional tutorial sessions on using the library's 'e' facilities. I attended one this morning and found it very useful - I took my own iPad in, and it was great to be told about and shown where to access any extra software needed to make the various applications work. As 'e' magazines, books and music all seem to need different softwares and applets to make them work, the on site 'hand-holding' saved me a deal of head scratching. It may be that I am particularly fortunate to live in an area where the Library Services go out of their way to help, but I doubt if Bucks is unique in this respect, and have posted this item in case it is of use to anyone else.
Just signed up and unfortunately 'World Soccer' isn't on my library's list. Can someone check their account to see if its still available?

Edit - Found out it is but my library service doesn't subscribe to it. I've put in a request, so fingers crossed.

Is there a step I am missing?
Be aware that even if you don't sign up to their newsletters, you will be randomly added to them (even years later). They also sell your email address on to other companies.

They tried to deny this until I pointed out that the email address was unique to zinio and I NEVER signed up their spam newsletters.

They didn't bother to respond after that cast iron evidence as I had them bang to rights.

this seems to be designed to do a few things:
store media (alternative solution: a separate external hard drive that you can plug into anything with a USB port)
play Bluray Disks on a TV (alt: a separate bluray player, optionally one that can play your media files through usb port)
play your media on your TV (alt: use the bluray player, or buy a box that plays media eg WD Live TV for £80 or use your existing computer)
lots of other alternatives setups are available, most of them both cheaper and more flexible than buying this

i don't see much point in buying a £400 computer with no screen and a poor processor that is just going to play movies on my telly
i know its slightly different - i did see one of these with a single core processor but with 8GB ram, 1TB hard drive and ATI graphics on Dell Outlet for a little over £200 very recently so i personally think you can get a much better price on one of these if you look around :)

Not really a desktop replacement due to very little expansion possible (i.e. no parallel or serial port).

I don’t think the omission of either of those ports is the issue especially as most modern desktops lack them also. I have a USB/Serial adapter and I presume you can get the same for a parallel port although it seems far less widely used unless you have an old printer.
The lack of space for internal expansion cards is a more of a restriction I’d say.

This isn't designed as a portable machine, it is designed as a media hub to go under your TV and next to your Sky box in a similar fashion to the way Revo's are hacked and used by many people on here. You however have a much more powerful machine, Blu-Ray player and 1TB of hard drive with this. Seems like a cracking product for the money and I personally like it however its not one for me. I already have a Revo hacked and running Boxee on a Linux OS and a separate server with far more power and storage than this streaming, organising and holding all my media.

Great product for someone looking for a decent media centre PC running windows and without the need for a media server.

I see. I didn't know that people use this as a media centre. Interesting though.

iPad arriving in the morning so will be signing up for this. H&R from me, cracking deal
it astounds me how this is cool, yet a deal for a tin of beans with 5p off can get to 300... sigh...
Agreed. I bought those 2 plus the iPhone mag. Esquire is a great deal but their regular price ( can buy anytime). I think I have my reading cut out for me though :)
Nice one, thanks. Got Maxim and PC Magazine, reading on PC and not too shabby for that price.
Had a look through rest of the site, Esquire (US) is £5.37 for 12 issues which is not a bad price, although the UK edition is £34.99.

Explanation for the cold vote please? Have some guts. :)

Middling reviews - weak story but good animation MIGHT be the reason (apart from the usual band of idiots!?!).
It's the best price by a good amount & UWISH have got behind my Heroes thread 100% so I've gotta add some heat.
