Thanks for this Northlad

its all swings and roundabouts with Dell i'm afraid. If they add delivery on top of this price then its like saying 'we'll give you free delivery' . Not knocking the OP though - still a good bargain.

This saved me a bundle. I bought a Inspiron 1720 Powerhouse. Price = £858

-£170 Dell Discount
-£60 (10% Discount)
FREE DELIVERY
5% Quidco

I saved over £250 and got it for £599. It has 2gig RAM, a directx10 graphics card and a whopping 320gig HDD.

So to Shaggy posting about this being pointless, I am very happy this person brought this to my attention!

Thanks northlad!

thanks for that celticwiseman - rep given!

ok so whats the difference between the N0172011 which is £629.10 and the N0172008 which is £598.96? (both prices include the 10% discount voucher) This is after the N0172008 has been customised to have the same spec as the N0172011 i.e. both have:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]

nVidia® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory

320GB (5400RPM) SATA Dual Hard Drives (2X160GB)

the only difference i can see is that the N0172011 has the "Dell Travel Remote Control". surely this isnt worth the £31 difference??

also, can anyone comment on the build quality of the Inspiron? how does it compare to say, a Vaio, in terms of things like chassis quality and screen quality?
and can anyone tell me if these run fairly quitely and cool or do they get hot quickly?

thanks!

The N0172008 doesnt have the 8600 graphics card mate and comes with a 1.66ghz dual core, not 2ghz, and only (lol) 250gig HDD. Buy it through quidco though for another £30 off. I tried taking the N0172008 and matching the spec but it was well over what I paid for the N0172011. Better check that though!

Oh and the customer reviews on the site have given build, functions and support 5/5 in each area. Delivery is slow though, I got an expected delivery date of 1st Feb!

if you customise the N0172008 you can put in the nVidia® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT graphics card and upgrade the hard drive to the 320GB (5400RPM) SATA Dual Hard Drives (2X160GB). then it comes to £598.96.

also, does anyone know what the battery life is like on these models? and is it worth upgrading to the 9-cell? does it stick out much from the back of the laptop?

ok, ive uploaded a couple of pictures of the N0172008 specification ive configured...im pretty sure its the same spec as the N0172011 (but without the "Dell Travel Remote Control") and the total is £598.96 rather than the £629.10 for the N0172011.

I would recommend the added battery tbh
#16
Thats really weird! Do it mate, £30 difference and 5% quidco! (£25) = £55

£575 for a great laptop that will last you years!

Damn you for showing me up though with an even bigger bargain!

i didn't knock the OP or the deal - please read my post again  i was just saying dell will usually have a hidden charge somewhere so you get similar deals week in week out.

i am after a high spec dell laptop myself so will try and find a good deal

Really good prices, for the 1720, though I went for 1520, as not bothered about graphics card and didnt want the 17 inch screen, only bummer was tried to use the code for the 499 voucher that just ended, but had problems with the credit card, so had to increase the processor to the 2.20ghz one. Have been looking around in the sales for past week, with the 10 percent and free shipping you wont get a better branded spec machine.
#19
I went for the 1720 yesterday and like a previous poster have recieved an expected delivery date of 1st Feb!!
Cant say I really want to wait that long..
I wonder if its worth phoning to see if they can convince me not to cancel the order
Anyone tried this in the past?
#20
Well I sent them a cheeky email saying it was a gift for a person who's birthday was in january and I would cancel if it arrives after. Lets see what happens :-)

Bought Laptop @ £549. Added printer and carrying bag to take to over £599 to qualify for discount and only paid £550. So I got a free printer and carrying bag using this code. Brilliant!

remember, 45nm penryn laptops are out in just 1 week! uses less power (5-15%), they are 5-10% faster clock for clock and miles faster for SSE4 applications. produce less heat too, so no burning your lap hopefully!
[mod]#24
For those of you still thinking of placing a dell order, please remember that not only does this 10% voucher expire tonight (midnight) but also the free delivery finishes and the extra discounts off Inspirons also finishes tonight.
So those bargain dells are likely to look a lot less like bargains come tomorrow morning!
