I go to the gym every other day for about an hour and am currently working on bulking up. Im drinking a whey protein shake before the gym, one after and another before bed.
What else do you guys recommend, nothing that could potentially add fat or gives other negative health effects.
#5
Drink one the moment you get up. Casein is better before bed - a tub of cottage cheese is good stuff.

I'm no expert, Mako, but have a look at maximuscle.co.uk - plenty of products, but also plenty of advice.
I've used their products for over a year now, and it makes a huge difference taking supplements compared to just trying to eat properly and train.

Definitely Norateen Heavyweight II for bulking up -

Add some Creatine as well, you should see decent results in strength and size.

If you are taking protein, take it within 30mins of exercise.
But you dont need more than 1.3g per KG body weight per day really.

Do some reading of journals. A lot of this stuff is marketing BS..

Dont bother reading all the websites where bodybuilders pat each other on the back and agree that supplements are the be all and end all. Training right is more critical than taking supplements.

Creatine will be a lot more beneficial as a supplement

I know others will flame this... so be my guest. But OP, read the articles.

horacehogarth, try cottage cheese before bed - whey is digested far to quick to see you through the night.

Try Creatine CEE - doesnt taste great but its better than the old mono type.

Most of the LA stuff is overpriced and overhyped, you would do far better sorting out your diet, getting plenty of good carbs and protein + some essential fats - such as fish oils.

A good place for whey and other stuff is www.myprotein.co.uk

Enter my referer code - MP30826 and you will get 5% off your first order.

hmmm i say each to their own.

i have used several types of suppliments, some i felt worked, some i know other people thought worked due to comments and some i felt were a waste of money.

i do the same amount of exercise per week, eat reasonably healthy and use protein shakes and other sups.

if you find something you think works for you, or you feel or see it working how you want, then it is not a waste of money.

i always buy any sups i need from the good ol usa due to the massive price difference anyway.

i find places like bodybuilding.com who have their own store with special offers is as cheap as anywhere when postage is factored into the deal.

i also have a 10% code off the bodybuilding.com shop but you only have till 28th july to use it, i never posted on this board due to it being a usa shop

ComeBack10Percent in the voucher code bit and get your 10% off.

thank you all for your replies, theres a lot of knowledge in this area amongst the forum goers - nice to see. I think im going to have a look at that Norateen stuff, you think LA muscle would be a good place to get that with the 20% off?
#13
Mako the only thing I would say is that if you are training for any sports at a high level which could involve a drug test do some reading up on norateen, because I have heard it can possibly give you a positive result!!! I think I saw something on their website saying it was maybe ok, not definately, for rugby which is why I never went for it.
#14
If you are going to try Norateen, the best place to get it would be LA.

But if you have not tried Creatine CEE i would give that a go first - its actually proven to make muscle look bigger - by helping them retain water, and to help get the last few out of a heavy set - and other stuff, do a search on google.

Unless anyone can post otherwise, I dont think LA offer any actual reseach to back up there advertising claims?

The LA stuff really is hyped up to play on the "what if it works" part of our minds.
#15
Not doing any pro sports Iain, just some tournament paintball and i would never be tested at the level im at. Cheers for the heads up though.
Ive not tried Creatine CEE, it looks like it wont hurt the pocket as badly as the norateen so perhaps i will try that first, cheers

Dont take pure creatine. Buy EAS creatine, its more expensive..but its worth it.
Pure creatine will have higher dosage, but most will be excreted via the kidneys, which can cause damage. EAS will get more into your muscle, than a much bigger dosage of pure.
Again, do some research.
