  You will find that a number of companies offer their shareholders discounts on their products or services as long as they are on the shareholder register. Some more examples here:

  However, the reason that people may have voted this cold is that it is only available to those that are on the shareholder register, and those people should already know of such discounts as it is usually mentioned in the shareholders annual reports that shareholders receive.
