Just a word of warning people. Was going to buy an Xbox 360 game for a mere £8.61 but then read the terms and conditions regarding promotional codes. Would be surprised if they honour this code.

2.3 Promotional codes are codes that enable customers to obtain benefits such as discounts, free delivery and free gifts. These codes are non-transferable so may only be used by the person to whom they are issued and must only be used in accordance with their terms and conditions of use. If you use a promotional code to claim a promotional benefit, you must first check that it was issued to you and that you are eligible to use it. By using it to claim a promotional benefit you will be confirming that:-

(i) you are entitled to use the code;
(ii) you meet all the conditions that apply to its use;
(iii) you agree to the terms set out below.

If, before accepting your order, we find that you are not entitled to use the code or do not meet all the terms and conditions of its use, we may reject your order or alternatively process it without the promotional benefit being applied. If, after accepting your order, we find that you were not entitled to use the code or did not meet all the terms and conditions of its use, we may reverse the benefit that you obtained. If you transacted on a cash basis e.g. by debit or credit card, we may take a further payment, equivalent to the value of the benefit obtained, from the card used. If you transacted on a credit basis, the value of the benefit obtained may be charged to your credit account.

tried street figher. didnt work.

Code wouldn't work for me or my girlfriend :(

Interesting response - just wanted to know if I was actually 'allowed' to use the code - as their terms and conditions state that if you are not allowed to use the code they will not honour it!

Don't really think two questions are a lot!

Hi Gang

I work in shopdirect IT Dept
To set the record straight. As you know shopdirect consists of a number of companies. Littlewoods etc. As you know we are going though a credit crunch. there are a number of factors why these codes are released.

Shopdirect promise the Home delivery network a number of parcels a week to get the delivery price down.
shopdirect have contracts with suppliers to sell a certain amount of goods to get supply price
shopdirect need to sell a level of goods to justify the staff levels
shopdirect needs to keep the level of returns down. returned goods are palleted and sold to the highest bidder normally 5% of the value.

easy way to meet the objectives is release codes.
parcels deliveries go up
targets for goods are met
and staff levels are maintained. its not profits but work turnover.
goods are unlikely to be returned.
it will look good on paper to the banks the amount of active accounts it has

shopdirect will honour the code once the goods have been despatched. some accounts do have a flag on them. regular users of codes. it will stop you using the code. but will go to the credit team for ascessment first.
you will either get a phone call to say on this occaison you cannot use the code. it will not stop you using future codes or you will get the confirmation of delivery code.
if your unsure you can place the order via telephone. at the moment its 100% acceptance via telephoneas long as the code is valid and its the first time you used it.
2007 saw an attempt to claw back the discount. this was due to an error that the code could be used several times on one account and people did do it
people who had only used it once were unaffected.
however shopdirect relented after talks and those account were blocked from using codes and some cashback privledge was removed.
this code is a dept staff performance code. its used to reward staff depts.
however like the others once the goods have been despatched they will be honoured.
