I'd agree, customer service is relatively poor.
I changed the package (downgraded it) on the first day of the trial, and they took the payments immediately, I should have read the small print as it says any changes will initiate payments.

I asked the customer services to advise, and they have no flexibility.

I cancelled after they sent me duplicate DVDs, slow at responding to my queries and of course because they were inflexible.

Just a quick note to balance the above:-)

I've used them for the last 3 months starting with the 2 week trial and they have been fine - been getting through a couple of DVD's each weekend and sending them back Monday / Tuesday. Replacements have always arrived ready for the next weekend. One faulty DVD, all others worked.
Haven't needed Customer Services so can't comment on them.

i have just returned my 3rd pair of discs today. I started my trial just over a week ago. i reckon their turnaround has been excellent. Im very impressed. no bad discs....yet :whistling:
i might even carry on using them after my 3 months

I` ve used the trial for a month and the turn around is 2 DVD`s a week and even though I have reserved movies I have yet to receive any.
They are willing to send DVD`s six month or older but it`s a trial and I am paying nothing so really should not complain

i have had 2 new releases already, and i have a cancel link within my account page. and 2 dvds a week? thats a slow postie you have :p

re the above.. you can cancel LoveFilm online now.

I recently started using Blockbuster after using LoveFilm for a couple of years and I've been really impressed with Blockbuster, I get more new titles whereas with LoveFile you can wait an age for some movies.

Blockbuster is far superior to lovefilm, i even stopped the free trial early, the turnaround was shocking.

Im using Tesco which in turn uses Love Film. Im currently working my way through their entire HD-DVD collection!

Hopefully I'll be able to get through them all before my trial ends.

Lovefilm are not even worth paying for 1 month.

Have used them before and their turnaround is pathetic. Plus you have to phone them to cancel.


Have to agree I wont be using Lovefilm ever again. They send me a £40 gift voucher practically every month and it goes straight in the bin. I got more dvds from Blockbuster in 1 month than I did with Lovefilm over 3 months!

I cancelled online with lovefilm before the trial finished as dvd recorder playing up then forgot about it. they took out £9.99 in january and when i saw this on my bank statement i emailed them requesting my money back and insure that they dont take it out again as it wont let me back into my account as i cancelled it. i got no reply and in february they ook out £9.99 again even though i had cancelled any dd and have no account or had any dvds from them. emailed again still no answer so am going to have to try calling the phone number thats on bank statement

i got through and looks like i hadnt checked far enough back. they had taken money out in november and december too. offered me 5 months for the 4 months i have paid and not had anything or 2 months back cash. they said i had accessed the close account page but didnt go all the way through. also say that they have sent numerous emails (i gave a second email address 2 weeks ago still no reply)
so just a warning for people who want to cancel keep a close eye on it.

this has put me off ever having any dvd by post

Sorry to hear that rosalie, but can't you call your bank to cancel the DD as well as call them?

I cancelled the dd in january when i noticed the payment that had gone out but they still managed to take out februarys too so will be putting a complaint in with the bank as well for sending the payment.
oh well at least i getting 2 months back it will teach me to check my statements more closely as i hadnt noticed the nov and dec withdrawals or would have phoned up earlier

I think it's probably because they use your debit card details instead of bank account for DD's.

My experience was okay, the trick is to delete everything from your wanted list just before youre due end your trial, then call and cancel (that way they cant send you anything last minute and take a payment.)

I read somewhere on here that if you cancel after 10.00pm online there is no problem.I cancelled my last trial with them online with no problem.I did it at 8.00am.So it might be cancellable online when the phones aren't manned.:)

yep, brand new customers only i'd think. Maybe if theres someone else in your household who hasnt used them before you could get round it that way (be sure to use a different card) ;)

Voted cold i'm afraid. I've heard nothing but bad things about LoveFilm, and accordingly I use Amazon. First class turnaround time.

I've been with them and the turnaround has been quite quick. Amazon may have "first class" turnaround but with those prices i'm better off with lovefilm.

You're right went to My Account, reactivate and again it mentioned a £14.99 fee. However, clicked to go past that and it confirmed that there would be no fee (go figure!)
Have checked and the next payment date is sometime in June anyway. :thumbsup:

I didn't so much vote cold for the offer, more for the service as a whole.
Free is great, and if you can manage to cancel your account without them taking the debit out of your bank then great. But i'm dubious and some here have stated as much as I already knew ie. that LF are reputed to be the 'AOL' of the online DVD rental world.
I couldn't vote hot for a service that I don't trust. Sorry.

Just finished my 3 month free stint. Phoned up to cancel on Fri 16th, acknowledged receipt of DVD and game back on the Monday and cancelled it. My Bill date was due today.

I would cancel a week before to ensure your dvd's get back to them.

Just started another 3 month free because I had an old screenselect account that they brought over in the merge and the 3 month code worked on that account also! :)
