Cheers OP

When John Lewis had the offer on, they shipped the TB version anyway. (The model is the same, just the colour is different)

This makes it £149.99 delviered, so not a bad price for a great bit of kit. (and quidco?)

People I would like to advise that the Silver one looks much better than the Black one... although I am a big fan of BLACK, I have bought both the Silver (first) and now the Black one.... but the Silver looks so good, especially with the way the mirror finish on the display complements the casing and the text display.

At this price its an absolute bargain. If your after a bog standard one then get the cheaper Thomson one, but the Humax is the daddy.

...but the Humax is the daddy.

I thought Topfield was the daddy and Humax was the mummy - am I wrong?
Thomson is definitely the pervy uncle, though. ;-)

I think Humax is the daddy if you don't want to go to the trouble of connecting your PVR to your computer to a download TAPS (program addons) to make your Topfield more user friendly. Humax is better out of the box. Topfield is better once TAPS changes have been made, has no fans so is silent and has better outputs (can output component). The Topfield is significantly more expensive though.

Can the Humax now do series link?

No. I think the Topfield may be able to do a version of Series Link with a TAP... not 100% sure though.

Today the MyStuff TAP allows you to set automatic timers based on the name of the program so you can record every episode of a named program. MyStuff is about to be updated to include automatic timers based on words in the program description too.

FYI Topfield are about to launch a new model:

Humax is the daddy and the toppie is his slightly more intelligent brother who has some annoying little habits

Can the Humax now do series link?

It will do, but only when the latest Freeview "Playback" firmware update is rolled out, which hasn't been yet - should be out before Christmas though. Also the broadcasting companies will need to broadcast the info for the box to pick up for series link and other new features, which I don't think is happening yet on all channels either... I would have thought this is the case for all Freeview Playback PVR's, not just the Humax.
