Just to let you know that they don't always accept that voucher I have tried on my Audi A4 and they said they wouldn't do it at that price.

Well I work for them and you get cowboys in any business as it's down to the individual branch not the company as a whole. If you haven't already, go through the complaints process and if you are right according to the T&C's you'll get a refund as they treat each case very seriously. If you owned a company and had an employee do something wrong, is that your fault? I understand your reaction though.

I will admit though that I don't shop at National Tyres for my tyres as they're too expensive even with a staff discount!

wheel alignment? is this another term for balancing

my car has a problem recently, the steering shakes on and off, even when im going 20mph, i dont think it is a balancing problem as someone told me that only really occurs when going a lot faster than that

Balancing is different.....you really need to get your car checked asap! (Your wheel nuts may even be loose)

They are expensive, I had a pair of Dunlop SP2000 tyres fitted for £116 around 5 months ago at Bracknell Tyres, National Tyres want £84 each.

Yes, the company is responsible.

I really don't understand why people are moaning about this. It isn't a complaints forum for National Tyres. The voucher is for a wheel alignment for £15....they won't do your break pipes, they wont change your tyres, they can't do any other work other than what you ask them to do!! (without your permission first). They might give you advice for other stuff but just decide yourself if you want it doing or not. Just hand over the voucher and say that's all you want! Simples. Hot deal me thinks.

I had my car done last year on same deal for £14 and mechanic did an excellent job. The equipment used was spot on too and attached to all four wheels not just the front. My tyre scuffing problem was solved.
#21
A national tyres or any other tyre shop alignment is really basic and in my experience not worth having it done even if it was a fiver! Go to a specialist alignment centre and get it done properly will cost around £60 but you will get your moneys worth and regain most of it back in extra life on your tyres.I tried National then Kwik fit to sort out my car and I was still not happy so I went the specialist route and the readings after having two lots "Try" to align my wheels was astonishing. When it was really sorted It was like chalk and cheese in the difference in handling and tyre life has vastly improved.

Would steer clear, when i visited them they managed to damage my alloy wheels when fitting new tyres. A month later i was still waiting a refund for replacement parts they had damaged even after going through their customer services. Treated me completly with contempt even after admitting to their mistakes, not just the one! Im not saying they are all bad as some branches obviously better than others, but after my experience i would never use again to say the least, especially after seeing what little interest their head office takes in customer satisfaction should anything go wrong.

Hot from me, we will be taking out car to be done, but its good to be made aware of the warnings from the other replies. Thanks.

Pointless paying £15 & getting wheels aligned for northerners...

...the roads are so badly surfaced and potholes are so prevalent that (after having them aligned) we would have to take the car back and get the wheels aligned again before we even got half way home... & the roads are so bad that having taken it back for re-alignment, we would have to take it back and get it done again before we even got half way home... & the roads are so bad that having taken it back for re-alignment again, we would have to take it back and get it done again before we even got half way home...

I think you get the idea... any chance anybody reading this works for the Highways department?... or did our wonderful government make those people redundant too?....

I digress....

You can guarantee they'll inform you that the tracking rod nuts are seized and so they'll need replacing too - adding £90 or so the price. Also beware the puncture fibs about the hole being to close to the tyre wall so a brand new tyre is needed.
You get nothing for nothing in this world. Offers like this draw the punters in in their droves only to be fleeced.

Crooks the lot of them !

Used these vouchers twice. Job done, no trying to sell me tyres, fix my brakes or anything else. Think some people have just been unlucky.

You probably have a twisted or warped tyre that needs replacing - could even be a back tyre.

My local tyre depot its only £14 anyway

There's a branch near you!

Over 200 throughout
the UK.
Taken from their website, except they are not throughout the UK, none in NI.
Typical!

Had this happen to my car and the brake flange was warped (talking millimetres here). Suspect your brake disk will be damaged from this too if its the same as what I had. Get it checked. Both were replaced on mine.

All branches are different but some companies just want you through the door in the motor industry, like £15 MOT's then hold you to ransom on work that needs doing, its possible they may say you need a track rod end, a bush etc otherwise they cant finish the alignment, the average person would just say, yes go ahead dont have a choice blah blah. But not all are like that so just excercise caution if they say it needs something else, otherwise a hot deal, even in the motor trade this would have cost £10 and with un-caliberated equipment so good deal, no doubt National have theirs checked every month or so for caliberation.

Will they do my road bike? or at least my mtb..........

As it happens, I'd booked my car in for tracking and balancing at my local National Tyres minutes before seeing this post.

The branch accepted the voucher no quibbles, balanced both front wheels that needed it and laser tracked the car for £26.90. They did a great job, and took less than an hour.

I use a local independent as much as I can, but he doesn't offer tracking, so I went to National Tyres.

Everyone complaining about them in this post needs to realise no-one forced them to buy any service or product from them whatsoever. If they'd just told me 15 minutes ago that I needed any additional work, I'd have simply said "I'll take that under advisement, how much would it cost? Bye!" and then, if it was indeed a valid warning about the condition of my car, address those concerns with my usual mechanic / tyre fitter.

I thought people on this website were usually considered "intelligent consumers".

The problem with tracking is there is no way to know if they have done the job correctly, lets be honest tyre wear on inside or outside does not happen over night, it takes months so how do you know they have aligned them correctly?

Sometimes in this life you just have to trust people or else worry your life away.
If it helps when I had mine done I was interested and I watched the mechanic do it and he explained what he was doing and why. He did a great job.

Agreed, and in those months the cost of balancing would compare with that of replacing worn tyres, or at least give a halfway competent mechanic an incling of how to balance.

Anyway I though balancing was not about uneven wear and instead about centring the axis of rotation on the axle?
