I would say if you get 10% discount, it's gonna be the cheapest way to buy the tickets. Also, if its possible to combine with a railcard it's even better :) Beats the 1% at thetrainline (and that's for tickets over £30!)
Hi jaylo, welcome to HUKD. I'm going to add a bit to the thread title as "Wow Cheap Seats" doesn't really tell people what's going on in the thread.
Normal fare for a GNER STD ADVANCE1 (single) from Durham to London is £12.90, don't really see how this is that hot a deal? Still, 10% is nice I guess (but not as good as railcards...)

Discounted rail tickets with GNER (Jan-March 07)

Instructions:GNER have launched a new Christmas promo which allows you to book tickets at less than their usual cheapest fares. For example, London to Edinburgh (single) is £11.50 instead of £14.05. More examples include:

London to Leeds £10 one way
Peterborough to York £8 one way
Doncaster to Newcastle £6

Call it a token of our appreciation. Call it the Christmas spirit. But we’ve come over all generous this Yuletide.

We’re offering you the chance to travel from just £8 one way for a limited period only.

To take advantage of this great offer, simply book your chosen ticket and then print out the token, above. You can only book online at, and you must carry the printed token with you on the train to present with your ticket, otherwise it will be invalid.

And if you’re very wise, you’ll take advantage of three other valuable goodies, listed right.

When can I book?

Bookings open on Sunday 10 December and close on Saturday 30 December 2007. You must book at least two weeks in advance of outward travel.

When can I travel?

You can travel between Wednesday 3 January and Sunday 11 March 2007, excluding 10 to 25 February 2007. Up to four people can travel on one token.

Seats are available on off-peak services, with limited availability on Friday and Saturday afternoons. There will also be limited availability when major events are taking place.

Please note that engineering work will take place on some weekends during this promotion and may affect journey times. Please click here for more information.

To take advantage of this great offer, just print the token above.

You must take the token with you, as you will be asked to produce it for inspection on the train.

How do I book?

Bookings can only be made online at or here.

You must book at least two weeks in advance of outward travel. Seats are subject to availability, so please book early to avoid disappointment. At these great prices, we are expecting the biggest demand for travel at weekends – if you can travel mid-week, you will have more choice.

This offer cannot be booked by phone or at stations.

If you require space for a wheelchair or have access requirements during your journey, please call our dedicated Assisted Travel Team on 08457 225 225 before you book.

To give you greater choice and flexibility, tickets are sold as single fares, allowing you to choose the lowest available prices for every stage of your journey. For example, you can select the reader offer fare on the outward journey and, if the return train of your choice is unavailable, you can select the best fare shown. This mix-and-match option will give you even more opportunities to travel at a great price.

Major credit, debit and charge cards are accepted as payment.

Click here for a step-by-step guide of how to book this great offer. Remember, these fares are sold as single fares.

What are the terms and conditions?

In addition to the National Rail Conditions of Carriage, the following conditions apply:

Offer only available to holders of the appropriate token. These must be taken on the journey for inspection on the train. If you are unable to present the token when requested, you will be liable to pay the balance of the full fare for the journey. This applies to each ticket booked under the offer.

A token can only be used for one return journey. If you plan to use this offer more than once, you will need a token for each return journey you make.

Bookings must be made at least two weeks in advance of outward travel. Once a booking is made, no refunds or changes will be allowed. There are no child, Railcard or other promotional discounts available with this offer. Under fives travel free if they do not occupy a seat.

Travel is only permitted on the GNER service you are reserved on; no break of journey is allowed except to change to/from connecting trains, where these are shown on your ticket or itinerary.

Offer is in Standard Class only. No upgrades to First Class will be allowed.
