If you want a foldable unit without 3D, just buy a 3DS and disable the 3D on/off toggle button, or even better use the admin privileges and go into the parental control settings and disable 3D?1. Why on earth would anyone want to buy a 2DS when (a) your kids will grow up one day, and (b) your paying a premium price for something with reduced capibablity that is an optional choice anyway.2. The argument seemed to be the 2DS was more robust (nonsense), or more comfortable (more utter nonsense), yet now everyone is getting sweaty pants and excited about a foldable 2DS.Cold for every single 2DS unit deal on here, get a 3DS model for goodness sakes.

I have 3ds xl but I never use 3d and I would gladly swap it for a lighter device which is 2ds xl. I think this is currently the best device to buy from the whole 2ds/3ds family.

No. It makes it cheaper. Why pay a premium for 3D if you don't use it? Think you're looking for an argument where none exists.

I would say it will be loose since the New 3DS XL is loose in this case.

I bought the pouch for £7.99 a while back, Mario Kart 7 is nearly 6 years old and can be picked up for less than £20 especially pre-owned so I really dont think this is that great a deal considering console RRP is £130

Each to their own on 2DS / 3DS but after using my sons original 3DS XL and an original 2DS i picked up cheap 2nd hand. I much prefer the screen on the 2DS. Yes it is smaller but it doesn't have to accommodate the 3DS functionality that we never use anyway. Guess thats the same with the new XL model too.

    It's cheaper to get a n2dsxl rather than a n3ds/n3dsxl

    1. (a) Doesn't have to be for kids (b) you aren't paying a premium since it's cheaper than a brand new "n3ds/n3dsxl"
    2. The o2ds is more robust than its o3ds counterpart, I've hardmodded a fair amount of 2ds'es and 3ds'es. The lack of the hinges makes the 2ds more robust.
Imo the o2ds is more comfortable than its counterpart, as I have fairly large hands.

Overall, many people don't use the 3D function, including myself. Why? Because it is trash. Pokemon SuMo didn't even allow you to use the 3D option. The n2dsxl is cheaper than the n3ds and n3dsxl, at MSRP anyway.

I'd rather buy a n2dsxl, saving me some money. Than buy a console with a function I will never use for more money. (edited)

The exterior of the New 3DS XL is a horrible glossy fingerprint magnet. That's enough of a reason for me to pick the new 2DS.

Welcome back NoahsDad. We've missed your nonsensical rants. You don't seem to realise that the New 2DS XL is exactly the same as the flagship New 3DS XL model. Apart from the 3D screen. If you don't use the 3D (and many don't) why on earth would you pay more for exactly the same functionality? Clearly bonkers.

Your thinking seems to be, buy a 3DS instead for £40 more (because it's "better") then turn the 3D functionality off. Because who knows, you might grow out of disliking 3D, or maybe people who can't see 3D will miraculously be cured in the years to come.

That's pretty lame, even for you! (edited)

Arrrrgh who said "hinges", the old hinge myth stories. Someone is saying the new 3DS XL is a fingerprint magnet. Not even sure who is being serious now. As I thought, there is no good reasons anyone can give to buy a 2DS then, even a foldable 2DS.

The best and most plausible reason given is that it is cheaper. I can accept that one, although being cheaper doesn't necessarily make something good does it....

A lot of people don't like fingerprints showing up and making their device look like a greasy mess.
If it doesn't bug you then more power to you but I can't stand it.

Have you ever dismantled and put back together a Nintendo console with hinges? It's a pain, how do I know this? The hinges on some of my previous Nintendo consoles have broken.

As I said before in my previous comment, the n2dsxl is better because it's cheaper than a n3ds. It is cheaper because it doesn't have the 3D option.

+1 I want to play the new Metroid but don't like 3D. Why on earth would I pay extra to pick up a 3DS XL when I could get a cheaper 2DS XL?

The argument is from the 2DS brigade that the 2DS is better than the 3DS because it is cheaper. Clearly nonsense and not rational in any context at all. Is like my saying smart price ASDA apple juice is better than Del Monte Apple Juice (because it is cheaper). A Nissan Micra is better than a Tesla then.

No, because I have found hinged Nintendo consoles to be nothing other than well made and durable and to last the course. You don't mention which consoles you are claiming you have had hinge problems with, but the various consoles I have used, I have not been throwing them about of walls. No idea what you are doing with yours then or how you are looking after them.

My 2 x 3DS XL units, a 1st gen Green special edition Yoshi one, and a 2nd gen newer blue one are both in perfect condition. The green Yoshi one in particularly has had about 3 years constant daily use now.

My kid often plays multiplayer with 3 of his cousins who all have standard smaller original 3DS units. These are all fine with no hinge issues.

I even recall my Game n Watch orange Donkey Kong twin screen hinged console was fine, and that is going back a couple of decades and more. I also had the Safebuster game n watch, same thing, perfectly robust and well built.

I think it would be a good idea to stop spreading myths about 3DS units being faulty, or having hinge issues, just to make those with a 2DS feel better about a bad purchase decision.

I've read many reviews and the only issues that the New 2DSXL has are minor (something about the cartridge slot, and a stupidly shorter stylus) and they all echo the same thing: it's a fantastic device for those who don't mind losing out on the 3D effect. Money saved to be put to purchasing games instead.

Sounds like your aware of previous 2DS discussions where the 2DS fans say the flat unfolding screen is better, more comfortable etc and that's why the 2DS is apparently better. Yet all that is forgotten now, suddenly it is cool to have a folding 2DS.

The 3DS XL is a superior console for a little more investment. Also has better future resale value and well it is just much better. There is no point to the 2DS. Limited, backwards tech, for mugs really.
