Quite a bit of misunderstanding in this thread, USB-C charging is very different to USB charging.

I don't have the exact numbers to hand but from memory the Nintendo charger can supply 2.6A at 15V that's 39W, a USB charger with a USB-C cable will only be a maximum of 2.5A at 5V, that's 12.5W. That would mean it could take 3 times as long to charge your switch if you use a USB charger with a USB-C cable, this is why (good) USB-C chargers are vastly more expensive than USB chargers. +1. This should come when you buy the console

It does come with one. This is an additional one for people who don't want to constantly unplug the dock.

Is this not just a USB C cable and plug?

    Yes..

Better off getting something like this and a USB C cable. I have something similar and mine charges just as quickly if not quicker than the Nintendo wall charfer

or even a power bank to charge on the go

Good price and it's a long cable

I only use this charger when docked, I use a 5ft Right Angle USB C Cable with a spare iPad 10W charging block when charging in hand held mode

I was thinking like a power bar or something similar, for ease of use on the go. Massive hassle unplugging this every time compared to just pocketing something small.

No, it's less useful than that. It's a plug with a USB C at the other end. I'd only be buying this if I moved the dock about and it was a big hassle to unplug the dock.

To charge in handheld, I stick a USB C in my phone charger. If you've got a pro controller, you've already got a pretty long usb c cable to do that job. If not, the cables are much cheaper than this.

The switch dock doesn't output to the TV without the official charger.

A good reference for Switch USB C charging.

FWIW I agree that this should be cheaper but I don't think it's that overpriced compared to some of the other Switch accessories on sale.

Yes, there's a lot of misunderstanding about USB-C charging, the effectiveness of it and the cost of them too.

This is a pretty good price for a proper USB C charger. (edited)

Bit wrong about the charging. It uses more power docked hence the higher voltage mode. Might charge a little bit faster than normal. But not 3 times faster. it will most likely be a 1s battery inside that can only take a certain charge. They're probably only charging it at 2c, about 10-15w maybe.

Which means you can play it while it charges, if you use a normal USB charger while playing it will charge very slowly at best but with most it will slowly discharge while you use it.

The switch doesn't support any of the QC chargers out there, seems the best way is to use a charger like this (with USB-PD) and a decent USB-C cable. I have one and the switch will continue to charge even while playing, unlike other chargers where it can actually continue draining the battery even while connected to AC.
