Isn't what this program does (copy protected DVDs) illegal in the UK?

No, as your legally allowed to make backups for your own use.

That's what I thought, but the last time I saw a post with a DVD ripper giveaway, somebody pointed out it is illegal again since 2015. Google "copy dvd uk legal" and you'll see all the articles about it.

true, yet another government fudge up, their attempt to put right the laws forbidding it failed due to not doing their ground work and making it look like it was something new and that the music industry could not be expected to tolerate huge losses without fair compensation, despite the music industry providing only opinion not proof they would actually suffer any loss.
Typical uk law/politics 1 step forward 2 steps back.

ps it is still legal software because its primary purpose is to copy DVDs you have "made" not bought (edited)

We might as well just pay our Netflix and Spotify subscriptions then and never buy a CD or DVD / BluRay movie if that's how they want it. Joke is you can download for offline playback on both those services

It is legal to make one back up of a DVD or CD you have purchased while you still have possession of the original. It is illegal to circumvent any copyright protection system. i.e. DRM protection.
    Same with video games.

It's technically illegal to rip your cds too for the same reason, which is ridiculous.

Wrong. This is a misconception. It is illegal. However, they're unlikely to a) find out b) take you to court over it.

Just googled it. Didn't realise the law had changed.
Still illegal to remove the DRM whether you are allowed back ups or not. (edited)

Just saying, Has anyone noticed anything strange about the licence …Just saying, Has anyone noticed anything strange about the licence code? Also, this doesn't copy blue rays.MakeMKV does, AND copies DVDs. Theoretically it is in Beta and requires licence renewal (about) very month, which can be got from the forum. It works but only produces MKV files (which are massive in the case of Blue rays). Of course, these can be resized in other free programs. Also, it doesn't extract everything. Eg pictures, commentaries etc.

What's strange about the license code?

Of course this doesn't copy Blu-rays or it would have been called WinX Blu-ray copy Pro.

MakeMKV is really a different type of program, it rips the DVD/BD to a video file where this copies the DVD or its structure to another DVD, ISO file or DVD folder. And FYI, MakeMKV can be used without the license if just ripping DVDs.

It's faster converting DVDs as well. You need to go to the forum to renew the licence when it runs out

i have not downloaded this copy but have done so a few years ago and used without any issue as far as i remember. the days of DVDs for me are over now as I have moved on to digital stuff, DVD is such a dinosaur in my mind, they just clutter the house for no reason. i am surprised they are still around, crazy.

Good stuff. Not too fussed about the legal side, copying one DVD for backup purposes is hardly Knock-off Nigel so the 5-0 won't be knocking on your door.
