As it has been asked several times, I thought I'd add the following info.

To get this price select a Pay as you go tariff when you order online, such as the £10 classic pay as you go, the sim is free at checkout and has no credit on it, so you are not charged for a top up.

Unlock codes can be purchased on ebay for as little as £1.50. Power it up with a sim from another network inserted to enter the unlock code. Note Tesco and other O2 based virtual providers will work without unlocking.

Also note the G5 takes a nano sim, so if you're existing sim won't fit, you might want to order a replacement from your provider while you wait for delivery.

Here's a little internet tip for all you hot dealers - if a company like O2 is doing Black Friday deals it's very likely they have created the web page already and just not put the link on the main page - so try adding " /blackfriday " after the main site url - like this - o2.co.uk/bla…day

I was wondering if to buy his today (for a Xmas present) and have been umming and ahhing but noticed on their website that the other doesn't expire until 6th December! Just thought I would point this out that it isn't just a Black Friday deal!

When asked how I would unlock, he didn't like the "via ebay" response and refused to sell me one in-store (although I wanted two, with cash on the table). Twat. Told him I'd just order 2 x moto g5's online for £89.99 (each) without getting ripped off with unwanted sim cards or unlocking fees. I've since ordered online without being scammed.Great phone. Rubbish O2 customer service.

I do Hope you ordered online to collect from that particular store just to rub his nose in it

    Just FYI.

I received my phone yesterday. It comes with everything you would expect, battery, 2a charger, lead.

I have unlocked it with a code off ebay (item number

221373614000) for £1.69, currently using a Plusnet SIM in it.

    Hope this helps.

£10 topup is not mandatory if you buy online, you will just have to choose one of their tariff bundles which won't add a topup to your basket.
Instore they will make you to buy at least £10 topup though...

I don't know if this is true or just a salesperson trying to get extra money?

Tesco SIM will work in o2 phone 100%, Don't listen to o2 staff, most of them are incompetent and have to say so to sell their product and airtime

They are network locked to O2.

There are posts earlier in this thread confirming these can be unlocked, however I understand in rare cases an IMEI might not be found on the database the unlockers all use, in which case they refund, although it may still get added at a later date.

You can order an unlock code for under £2 without even opening the box, and if you buy the phone online, you should be able to return it and just say you've changed your mind, or didn't like it, should the unlockers be unable to generate an unlock code for your particular handset.

You should also be able to use it without unlocking with any of the O2 based virtual providers, such as Tesco and Giffgaff (well, I think they're O2 based).

Got this a couple of months ago on o2 for £130 pounds on offer so a definite bargain at this price. Also, the blue colour is exclusive to o2, and the phone has been confirmed by Motorola to get Android Oreo.

Unlocked mine on eBay for a fiver

Battery life is excellent and camera is surprisingly very good. No NFC though. (edited)

Hmmm I would have said a bargain but 4 Moto (different phone) faults on, I'm moving on from Leno...cough Motorola. If they sort out their quality control and updates and bring back what we loved about the early Moto phones then it would be good, but now? Nope.

No. It doesn't have NFC. A second hand LG G3 would be a better buy. It has NFC and build quality is far superior.

Yep laziness for sure. All people have to do is search ebay and contact the ebay seller to ask if they can provide an unlock code for an O2 supplied Motorola G5.
If the seller doesn't answer then don't buy. It's not rocket science.

That thought had crossed my mind too.

However, I deliberately avoided click-and-collect at that store, as he could ultimately not hand them over, despite advance payment giving him the last laugh.

Better to get the two phones first (via the post) then go in-store and make the point ;-) The manager did say that they're making their money through the sim cards and other services (like unlocking), not really on the phone at this price. I get the idea they dislike your typical HUKD buyer who isn't easily conned into buying extra services that you don't need or using third party providers.

I would recommend opting for click-and-collect/delivery from the start, which bypasses their in-store up-selling.

Couldn't he still refuse to hand it over and arrange a refund instead?

If is a subsidised by O2 phone, so I'm not surprised he refused in those circumstances, I would have at least tried claimed to be buying them for a wife or kid who already is an O2 customer and just needs a new phone.
