Come across to read this and thought this is worth sharing. What a beautiful geasture from this restaurant.

A Turkish restaurant in Leicester is offering free meals to homeless and elderly people on Christmas Day.

Saray Mangal in Highfield Street will be working to make sure no one eats alone this Christmas.

The 'Authentic Turkish BBQ and Meze House' is hoping to inspire people to "care for each other no matter what religion, race, culture or language".

From 12pm to 4pm on Christmas Day this year, the restaurant will provide a three course meal for anyone who is elderly or homeless and may otherwise spend the holiday alone.

Its nice to see they are doing their little bit.

Not sure why people are complaining they are only doing it Christmas, they are a restaurant without income they shut down. Let them do something nice one day out of the year if that's all they can afford to do, and lets not criticise.

    Heat added.

I will do. There is other local charities involved in it too. There's a lot of homelessness in Leicester and many charities help as best as they can. Please do if you're down this way, the good is excellent! Thank you.

it's good to see someone doing something positive (with some free publicity, and so what?) rather than pathetically complaining about someone else's attempts.

I was homeless a few years back (at 18, then again at 21) - and it really is the little things that matter - I was never one to beg or ask for anything - always trying to keep myself to myself - but I'll never forget the feeling of inclusion I felt when I was given gifts by hostel staff at Christmas time - they may have been inexpensive but they meant more to me than anything when I had nothing - things like this DO make a difference

What a really lovely gesture, but more importantly, that's the mother-in-law sorted for Christmas dinner.

Lovely gesture, if more restaurants or cafes could offer this, or maybe a mince pie & tea/coffee morning free, would help alleviate loneliness even for a few hours.

Must be just me, but surely because you are alone and of a certain age doesn't make you worthy of a free dinner? There are lots of lonely people who aren't old. Whilst I recognise and applaud the sentiment I would rather see them asking those in the know to make referrals of who invitations could be sent out to.

I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who is offering & helping the elderly homeless & lonely people at Christmas and at other times. It's a difficult life for some & some people have worked hard & ended up homeless lonely rtf. I took in an elderly neighbour and made hot meals everyday for over 5 years after everyone simply turned the other way after his wife died he was so lonely . He was a true gent and I miss him so much after he died . It's cost nothing to show & give kindness to others & no extra to give someone a meal 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎅🎅🎅 happy Christmas to each and everyone . Keep smiling

Seriously. Keep it to yourself if you want to help out also try doing it more than one day a year. Blatant advertisng and more are catching onto it as a cynical but effective marketing ploy. Great for giving out a bit of food on one day but it is only one day and why all the patting on the back is required?

Good but also ridiculously out of date with ignoring the growing amount of younger people who are isolated and lonely.

The elderly have a hell of a lot of support already available to stop them being on their own at Christmas (salvation army, age UK as well as many people posting on Facebook reminding people to check on their lonely elderly neighbours).

I myself am a young person who faces loneliness. My family died and because of battling with mental health problems, I have never had any friends.

Although due to mental health problems, I likely wouldn't be able to attend anything like this, I know what loneliness and isolation is like and can understand that for many in a similar situation, it would be taken up and mean the world to them.

It's discriminating against people purely because of their age. Surely there should be more focus on helping young people struggling with loneliness, because without that help, they will remain lonely all of their lives into old age (if they even live that long, because some days the loneliness can easily push someone to doing something drastic).

The mind boggles on some of the comments in this thread.

    A wonderful kind hearted gesture.

Looking on TripAdvisor this restaurant doesn't particularly seem to come across as being desperate for the publicity.

Lovely idea this....I tip my hat!

It's a crazy world that the UK being one of the richest countries in the world having so many homeless. .....seriously something is wrong with our society....I've been to a lot of countries mostly poorer and some richer. ....I haven't seen a country so far with so much resources who let's this happen to this extend....walking around my hometown Nottingham there is so many homeless...It shouldn't happen in the first place....

Sadly this is the result of a total in balance and greed....and if you vote tory then have a word with yourself....You're part of the problem....we need to provide a cure not treat the symptoms!
