Can anyone clarify if you still have to pay import tax on this?

Depends on a combination of the courier you select and how lucky you are. DHL are a sure-fire way to get stung. Another is a dealer who lists the actual value of the unit on the packaging for Customs folks to see; most dealers are good with under-declaring the value of items so they fly under the Customs' radar.

Select the slowest courier option available, non-tracked, and your chances are minimal. I haven't had to pay any duties on about four Chinese phones purchased to-date, but my luck will probably run out soon.

Perhaps budget for a 20% surcharge (VAT) plus a ca. £10 handling charge when you order so you know the maximum you'd have to pay for the item.

Good spec. The new P23 uses 16FF+ compared to the older P20 using 16FF.
And this is underclocked to a, still fast 2Ghz to save power.

So, sipping power, the battery in this could last 10 years, but maybe stuck on 7.1 if the reported due 8 update does not materialise in March. (edited)

Well. Me not included. I want a phone that lasts more than an hour between charging

I'm a Power 2 user (review on HUKD). I would expect similar from this phone but here are my thoughts:

I bought the Power 2 because of the big battery. I don't play many games or run anything processor heavy but I've built my own app to keep track of payments. As such I need something with a full days battery. Although I charge my phone every night, today's battery is still at 86% from 9am. On the occasions I have forgot to charge, it has went 3 days easily. There was one day I sat with the screen on at full brightness playing a game (Hitman Sniper iirc). Only then did the battery go down significantly and needed charging after 14 or so hours.

I've only had 1 update despite one or 2 little niggles (the Bluetooth and Wifi drop the odd time). I've also had 1 sudden restart (while Bluetooth was connected and screen off) so I don't think everything is perfect with the software. That's one thing I've noticed with brands like this, my Elephone P8000 (which lasted 2 years) only had 2 updates in the lifetime of the phone despite having niggles. I think brands like Ulefone and Elephone keep their updates for the next model. The Power 1 for instance had a screen niggle which the Power 2 didn't. I'd think the Bluetooth and Wifi issues will be OK in this but maybe something else will crop up.

I'd also love to see wireless charging at this price point, the wire that originally came with the phone stopped working, something I've noticed with most phones I've ever owned. Wireless charging would do away with the need for any wires.

NFC or camera doesn't bother me but I've included a pic on my review thread. Mine came with a free screen protector and case although with Gorilla Glass it's not needed. I'd expect the same with this phone.

I've bought 10 or so phones from China and only been hit with 1 customs.

All in all, the Power 2 is a great phone, I'd expect this to be better.

Power 1 user here, just got my Power 3 up and running.

First impressions and to address some of the comments above to anyone thinking of buying:

Very, very good so far. No import duty (select NLPost on Gearbest, package marked at EUR15). No malware baked into ROM (using Malware Bytes + TrustGo). Stock Android so you can install Nova Launcher etc.

The biggest annoyance (not Ulefone fault) is all the Google bloatware, e.g. Google Assistant popping up every time long press home button. Had to disable the Google app to get rid.

Camera seems very good, even before the 11th Jan update, no softness at the edges etc.

Ditch the stock camera app and get "Open Camera" instead, much more powerful e.g. it actually remembers white balance settings, and you can lock focus to infinity so it doesn't hunt when filming.

One thing I did notice is they seemed to have disabled Camera2.0 API so no option for RAW shooting, and you don't get the Camera tab in MTK Engineering Mode, I hope they fix this as the Power 1 had it.

WiFi is good no dropouts (I think MTK SoC and Asus routers are a good match)

Fantastic phone for the price, sheep buying £800-£1200 Apples and Samsungs every 18 months are just burning their hard earned cash, but it keeps my Index Tracking Funds growing so good on them. (edited)

It'll still have crap camera's. They need to cut back on the RAM and concentrate on the camera's!

There are few videos on youtube which seems to suggest battery and gaming is not bad. The reviews below look good.

It is unlikely. Don't select DHL tracked packaging and it 99/100 will get through fine.

My issue with a lot of these lessor known back street Chinese phones is they do not configure the power management correctly in the software, and to counter this, they attach huge batteries!

The 6080mAh battery might sound great on paper, but will probably give closer to two days phone use as opposed to the four they claim!

Use to be a big fan of Chinese phones, but once a couple of the flaws come through, you begin to tire of them and their quirks and would rather stick to bigger well known brands.
(For example the slow MTK processors, bezel-less displays which have bezels, lack of software updates, promise of great cameras that disappoint, fake duel cameras, some apps not running on them, no NFC and bugs that show up in the software, due to lack of testing.)

Now some of the brands like Bluboo and UmiDigi, have stopped using a near stock version of Android and replaced it with their own buggy version like UMI-OS, where ads randomly appear while using the phone and they have put something in the software on the phones to prevent third party launchers being used, like Nova Launcher!

As a rule, I wouldn't spend more than £100-120 on a phone from China, unless the reviews are amazing and contains well known specs, like a SnapDragon processors.

There are exceptions to this like Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, I have used and was very pleased with!

Never had issues with any Chinese sellers, the products have always arrived and never been stung for customs charges... I am always aware of you having limited rights when you buy overseas, its just the phones are over marketed on the sellers website, with fancy images and quotes, but when they arrive you are left a little underwhelmed to what you was promised! Why don't all phones offer a 6080mah battery.
Would rule out the need for a battery pack.
    Or portable charger.
Give consumers the choice of a thick or thin phone.
    Imagine a Samsung s8 with a 6080mah battery?! #justdreaming

I think people are losing sight of the fact they're, buying a phone and not a camera. Surely the solution is to leave the phone with 6 GB of RAM and stick another fiver onto the price, then install a decent camera. £165 to £170, for a good camera, quite frankly, I think Joe Public would be delighted to pay up.

I saw the Oukitel K6 deal the other day which I found interesting but it didn't have a gorilla screen. I phone gets dropped a lot by my toddler. I don't think that will survive our drop test.

Agreed. Unfortunately, the hardware is easy to find but to implement it with a good software you need a software engineer which are difficult to find. There aren't many chinese companies who can do this.

No phone needs 6gb of ram. So there is no need to keep upping it on every new model. The reason they are doing it is because it's cheaper to add ram than fit a decent camera and software.

I bought one of these phones and I was a bit sceptical. I was going to buy a xiaomi redmi note 5 pro but the specs weren't the best so i took my chances. It took 2 weeks to get delivered but i'm really happy with it. Ok the cameras not the best (hopefully oreo update will help out) but everything else is superb. I always had problems with smart phones only lasting a day this phone can easily hit 2.5 days.
