Watch especially from 2.15 when the tealeaf uses angle grinder to cut through any locks regardless of how well made.
Also my tip grease every joint/orifice, moving part ie keyholes, barrel sections etc with vaseline or similar, stops tealeaves, vandal's etc from supergluing them

    If they offered stickers that said "IF YOU TOUCH MY F*CKING BIKE I'LL BREAK YA F*CKING LEGS!" it may work better as a deterrent.

    The police wont do jack, its the bottom of their priorities, even if you go to them with evidence as to who has stolen your bike you will be on your own.

    It does seem a bit poorly worded. While it may well increase the chances of your stolen bike being returned if it gets dumped, there is no way it's going to make any difference to some scumbag stealing it in the first place.

    Registration is free but if you want to mark your bike you need to pay either £13, £20 or £30

    My bike got stolen from my shed, the police caught the guy and returned the bike to me a week later

    If they want a bike to get home and chuck in a hedge then probably not. If it's something nice that they hope to sell on them maybe. Also, if they get caught with a load of bikes registered get someone else it might get them in hot water.

    When my bike was stolen I found it on gumtree in London. Gumtree pulled the ad because the seller was using multiple accounts to sell multiple bikes that they used to get to work.
    The local police got all the details from gumtree, but the best they could do was ring the number.
    No answer.
    Only the Met Police could do anything as it was in their jurisdiction. They’ve got bigger fish to fry.
    Burglars go on day trips now as they can do it with impunity.
    This particular lot of scum burgled the area, breaking into garages and returned when they thought insurance would pay out.
    They were caught on CCTV and still it wasn’t enough.

    Buy a good lock. Use it. Fit a garage defender to your garage.
    The Police and a bike register can’t help you.

    I think people need to look at stats for stolen bikes ever being found, let alone returned to owners.
    Does anyone think a copper is going to pull over a kid on a bike in Manchester to see if it has a sticker placing the owner in Liverpool.
    A barcode that won't rub off. Yes I'm sure sandpaper or grinder will struggle with that. Maybe a can of paint and your barcode is never to be seen again. Stamps can be ground and parts with tough markings easily replaced (not that they really need to bother)
    The only thing you can do is try and prevent it getting nicked in the first place. Or try and prevent people buying bargain bikes even if they know it's suspect. If it goes forget about it and ring your insurance company. (edited)

    Thats been my experience, each bike comes it a serial number on the frame, so not really sure what this adds, if you can file off a serial number then I am sure you can peel off a sticker (even if its anti peel).
    Just looks like a scam to sell you products.

    I should add that all my bikes are already on immobilise.com/, when I had a bike stolen it tooks months for them to take a statement and when they did they were totally unaware of immobilise depite again "all forces being signed up". I acutually showed them the entry as it had the full spec of the bike, which the copied by quill! (edited)

    I vaguely recall reading a forum post by someone who found their stolen bicycle amongst a batch of recovered bicycles being sold off at an auction on behalf of the police, this despite the police having the description and the frame number and I'm pretty sure he said it was registered on immobilise.com too.

    I suppose with one of these ugly stickers on, the police might be slightly more likely to bother to check it.

    I do still have all our bicycles registered on immobilise.com anyway (edited)

    My bike got stolen out of my garage at 4am, a neighbor saw them climb over my wall and called the police. The police knocked on my door holding my bike and the thief got 25 months in jail, so does work sometimes.

    25 months? A neighbour stole a parcel from my front door. The police raided his house for another crime and found the box with my name. I had to give a statement and got my box back after 6 months.

    I got a letter saying my neighbor was found guilty for theft (for several crimes) but my parcel got him ONE DAY in prison!

    When I was in the U.S. I used to leave an empty handgun holster strapped to the side of the fuel tank of my motorbike. Don't know if it had much effect but I never had my bike stolen. It was a well known ploy but if you were a criminal, would you take the risk ?

    Mine has a barcode printed on it which cant be rubbed off. was done by the police years ago and also registered, i know it aint gonna stop people robbing it but it helps is they try and sell it on or if they find it after being stolen

    That might be so. But if you somehow found the bike but the thief still has it you can get the police to come with you to collect it safely

    Flippin heck there's a load of moaning whingers on this site! Have some frickin common sense, no it isnt going to stop your bike getting nicked it's a flippin glorified sticker. If a thief wants to steal anything they find a way, but if a thief sees two similar bikes and one has this sticker, they'll probably take the other one. Also if it does get nicked so some drug dealer can ride across town and dumps it then you're more likely to get it back eventually.

    People who say thieves will sand it down and repaint it. What thief does that for heavens sake!! Most thieves are opportunists and unless you have a REALLY expensive bike they wont go through the aggro of angle grinding a lock off a bike and sanding and repainting a bicycle.

    Its a good idea and will reduce the chance that your bike is nicked. worth a tenner or whatever it is.

    This is not just about a bloody sticker - that serial number doesn't mean much if it can't be traced to the owner. You register your bike's serial number with this so that if it's found you can be traced. Granted, not much of an actual deterrent. You can pay to have a micro dot that means if the sticker and/or serial number are ground off then there is still this ID hidden in the bike.

    See my update. Of the maybe 100 or so bikes that I am aware of being stolen (cycle club) and fellow commuters from various places of work. I am only aware of a couple being recovered and in both cases because they had been dumped, not down to police work and were identified by their description.

    If you want to spend extra money giving another identifier to your bike then good luck. My advised who be spend the money on a gold standard lock, lock up in front of CCTV if you can and keep your fingers crossed.

    Why would you lock it through the wheel? Also that chain will come off with a pair of bolt cutters. Spend some money on a decent D lock and lock it through the frame, ideally as low down as possible to make it difficult to get off with hack saw. No stopping a committed thief but this will stop the opportunists.

    So True!

    They don't even bother to answer the phone I phoned 101 some months ago. The phone rang so long I got cut off! I rang back and again the same - no answer! I tried for over an hour with no sucess.
