Release date: 3 March 2017.

  • Suitable for the Nintendo Wii U.

Explore the wilds of Hyrule any way you like—anytime, anywhere! - Climb up towers and mountain peaks in search of new destinations, then set your own path to get there and plunge into the wilderness. Along the way, you'll battle towering enemies, hunt wild beasts and gather ingredients for the food and elixirs you'll make to sustain you on your journey.

Be prepared and properly equipped – With an entire world waiting to be explored, you'll need a variety of outfits and gear to reach every corner. You may need to bundle up with warmer clothes or change into something better suited to the desert heat. Some clothing even has special effects that, for example, can make you faster or stealthier.

amiibo compatibility – The Wolf Link amiibo from Twilight Princess HD, the Zelda 30th Anniversary series amiibo, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild series amiibo are all compatible with this game. Tap the Wolf Link amiibo (sold separately) to make Wolf Link appear in the game. Wolf Link will attack enemies on his own and help you find items you're searching for. Tap a Zelda 30th Anniversary series amiibo to receive helpful in-game items or even a treasure chest!

Far superior games with far better gameplay and graphical mechanics (even on the Switch!) released in 2017 which got overshadowed by this overrated game just because it was called “Zelda”. If it was just called “Breath of the Wild” it wouldn’t have got anywhere near the faux hype and fawning it received from the masses of disgraceful critics and the worst fanbase in gaming. Voting cold to this toilet stain of video gaming history.

Couldn't agree more. Hard and interesting to see where the dev team will take the series after this.

I had such a blast with this game, put 200 hours in it and then went on to buy the DLC too. I found it so much fun. But I also think considering the acclaim it got and the GOTY awards it is also over rated. There a lot of flaws in the game and I think the critics went overboard (as usual for a Zelda game). Game of the year for me was Horizon.

Wow ... I thought Horizon was very average starts good but after a while found it repetitive and very predictable. It didn't help that BOTW came out at a similar time, once i'd played Zelda Horizon just gathered dust and I haven't returned. I guess each to their own.

Same as me. Played all the Zelda games and this is the first one that I couldn't put down. Paid full price and put a couple of hundred hours in, worth full price IMO, not many games are.

A bargain at £30 but I have to agree, while its good, it was over-scored just like Odyssey - 10/10 all round etc when neither were really great leaps over previous zelda & marios.

For a switch game that really has scope and depth you need to try Xenoblade 2

A good game, but I baffles me how this got 10's because it has SO many flaws and just to say a few:

Limited Enemy types (you are going to be fighting the goblin enemies a lot)

No interesting items like the older Zelda games

Terrible FPS if that bothers someone.

Incredibly boring world, its HUGE but there's very little in it. Few interesting locations and barely any if not any dungeons. If they made the world 2/3 of the size then it might have been more manageable.

You will be running around for most of the game, its a lot of moving and not a lot of doing. I didn't realise how much time I was simply running to the next objective until after I finished the game.

Combat is too easy and broken, you can just spam backflip and win.

Zelda sounds like a boy trying to do a girls voice

DURABILITY! I'm fine with durability as long as its not as stupid as this. I was scared to use my good weapons and that is something a game shouldn't do.

Shrine puzzles got boring after about 30 of them

The most important for me was just TERRIBLE story, there just isn't a story here. These characters mean NOTHING to me I don't know their backstory, am I supposed to feel bad if I don't even know them?

Now that isn't to say its a bad game, I love how you can approach a situation in extremely creative ways which not many other games are able to do. The cell shaded graphics are nice. But to be honest I can't think of many clear positives for the game, I enjoyed the game on my first playthrough however after coming to realise how over-rated and flawed this game is, it really changed my opinion. I'll give this game some credit - it is very nice to look at - but my god was it a miserable game play experience for me. Easily the worst open world I've ever played, and I honestly think that if you swap the Zelda title and characters for something else then a LOT more people wouldn't be fooled by the hype and see it for what it is.

Whether the game is any good or not is beside the point I was trying to make. Being rude and insulting people who enjoy something that he happens to dislike himself is rude nasty and childish. By all mean give an opinion but to insult every single person who enjoyed the game (there are plenty of non ‘fan boys’, myself included who did) is a bit pathetic.

I can see why people have gone mad for this game, though. The sheer amount of freedom and exploration is something I've never seen before in a game. Unfortunately the mechanics ruin the enjoyment for me, such as the stupid stamina bar, rain that can strand you on a mountain, weapon fragility and op enemies. Not to mention the fact that every dungeon looks the same and the bosses lack variety. I really wanted to like this and I appreciate what they went for but I found this game very frustrating.
