Sofology company

Posted 31st Dec 2017
Been looking for a new sofa suite and really liked the one we saw in Sofology.
Also they were the only company who when we walked in to take a look, they did not harass us and walk around like a following shadow behind us.

However they seem to hold no sales.

Does anyone have experience with his company and managed to bag a discount?

Thanks any advise would be appreciated.

I had nothing but trouble with these clowns, be warned!! The showrooms are great, all modern with decent suites, the suites are not cheap, but given the quality things seemed fine. The one we were looking at was in the shop and one thing that swayed us was the fact that they said the one in the shop had had thousands of bums on in over the past few years and was still solid, they also offered a 10yr frame guarantee!! We were sold!

HOWEVER, unfortunately, after around 14wks (normal for a "handmade suite" (handmade as in some guy in China put the frame on a jig to weld it, it was hardly bespoke furniture despite their BS!), Sofology really showed their colours. The suite arrived and it was a shambles, it was a recliner, but there was a gaping gap between the front panels... like around 1.5", you could clearly see the wall behind, additionally, none of the lines matched up on the 3seater and the gaps were worse!! There were also clearly visible dents on both suites which had stretched the leather, it looked like it was second hard. The delivery driver noted the issues and said I should let it settle and ring within 30days if i wasn't happy.

After 24 days it was no different, so I called the helpline as instructed. I got through to someone after a long wait, but he said he was just taking the call as the complaints team was very busy (I wonder why!!!!), he said he would get someone to call back but it might not be that day. The crux was, no one did, I called a week later, but they didn't have a note of my call, they did however arrange for an "engineer" to call.

I could go on forever, but to sum up:

Despite a text and a call, the engineer didn't turn up, Sofology blamed the contractor, the contractor blamed Sofology, I was left having a day off for nothing

The "engineer" eventually came on the following Saturday (after them first saying that Saturdays weren't possible!?!?) however, he didnt have instructions to solve the misaligned panels so wouldn't touch them, he semi-corrected the dents but said that leather is like skin and once stretched, it will always show.

They sent a second engineer, who basically said it was knackered and unfix-able (like the last one)

I still wasnt happy as it was "second hand" now and I had paid for a new one. This is the interesting bit, they said that had I called WITHIN the 30days, I could have had a refund, but as I called after 31days, I could only have a repair, so reluctantly I agreed to another visit

They sent ANOTHER engineer a week or two later who "skinned" the suite and put on new covers but the panels were "within their tolerance"... despite them looking like crap!

After hours of calls and many failed promises to call me back, they finally agreed to replace both suites, RESULT!!! Or so we thought, but the replacements were even worse, BOTH had bigger panel gaps and the 3seater had a cut on the arm.

Then I remembered that I had called within 30days but they had not called back as promised, so I dug out the phone bill. luckily it was there in black and white and I had them. I called the next day and they still tried to worm out of it but after hours on the phone and a bucket load of stress and anxiety, they caved in and agreed to refund me.

I have to say that they were the worst company I have EVER dealt with. They lie and try to wriggle out of their obligations and given that we had TWO suites which both delivered damaged, I think that their quality assurance is diabolical. IF you must deal with this shower:

CHECK YOUR SUITE THOROUGHLY ON ARRIVAL
IF THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG, CALL THEM IMMEDIATELY
MAKE THOROUGH NOTES OF EVERY DISCUSSION
RECORD YOUR CALLS AND TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE DOING SO
STAND YOUR GROUND, THEY LIED AND BROKE PROMISES TO ME LEFT RIGHT AND CENTRE

I think they bit off more than they could chew with me and I got my money back, but even that resulted in me threatening legal action as they said I would have my refund within 5working days, but when I called them on day 5, no one knew anything about it!!

My advice, steer well clear, but to answer your question, yes they do have discount periods, we bought ours in the February offer, but the customer service and quality of the product is so poor, I wouldn't bother even if THEY paid ME to take their sofa, read the trustpilot reviews and take heed of the 1star reviews... I didn't and nearly paid the price.

I now have a suite from a local independent dealer and its great, it was a few quid more but it arrived with no damage and it looks exactly like the one in the showroom!! (edited)

You take Terry Tibbs out to lunch, you wine and dine him, you give him an oil massage and then he gives you £1950 if you’re lucky!

    Much love.

It seems you are very happy with this company, sofa.

The fact that I wrote so much at that time of night should be an indicator of just how much I hate them. I'm reasonable, if it was just "one of those things" I would have just walked away, but they are SO bad, I wouldn't want anyone to have to endure what I had to thanks to these scumbags. I don't even care if they read this, everything I'm saying is backed up by recorded calls, they PERSISTENTLY failed to ring back, even when they had promised to do so. They tried everything to stop me getting what I had paid for and the fact that they think that they have the say as to what is "acceptable" quality is testament to their arrogance. The suite in the shop was spot on, yet ours was a bag of crap and they just say, "it's within our tolerance levels" and that as it has been shipped from China, some damage is expected!!!

Perhaps we were unlucky......twice!!! But my in laws also bought the same suite (no recliner) and they have had them out three times in the first year to fix a creak and banging noise in the frame, so that's three for three, hardly a ringing endorsement

They are part of DFS and were purchased by them this summer. Pretty much all the sofa companies now are owned by DFS, so remember you will get DFS style service in all of them unless you but from next, m&s home or somewhere like that. (edited)

I have a sofa from Sofology and must admit, I’ve never had an issue with mine, it’s 3 years old now.

Got a great suite from Sofology

a 3 seater electric recliner, 2 seater electric recliner and a standard one seater armchair. £1400 it was, they were ex-display ones too, but came wrapped up as if new. Very pleased with them indeed & everyone who comes over assumes they costed a lot more than they did. So don't be put off by looking at display ones etc.

Everyone will have different experiences of course, but that's life.

Your 3 and 2 aren't in dark brown leather are they?? You are of course dead right, if my sofa (and replacement) hadn't been delivered in such a poor state, I wouldn't have had to use their god awful customer services and I would probably be saying how good they are.

At the end of the day, you do your research and take your own risks, but three out of three suites all with damage is a little too much for me

DFS own sofology, multiyork, dwell, and sofa workshop, this is no where near All the sofa companies.
