If the camera shifts data exclusively by wifi, the USB cable provides power only. The suggested data USB repeater cable therefore has no benefit. What is required is a low resistance cable so that the 5V supply at the power socket is still 5V at the end of whatever extension cable is used.

Maybe the Yi cam is flexible enough to tolerate a marginal power supply.

All I know is, it works with no problem at all, and has done for over 6 monhts

Get the one I said about. It's a good quality, well sealed etc and has never let me down. Just remember...sometimes cheap is not always good. I used a £3.99 jobby from eBay originally and it failed in around 4 weeks.

Probably a faulty unit but the cable I have is still working spot on.

Cheers, I might give it a go and failing that will try and get a replacement. Cheers.

By loss do you mean speed loss or picture quality loss or data loss?? This is a 1080 camera

So the burning question WiFi or wired?

If you want a long USB cable for power supply purposes then you're going to struggle, especially if the camera gets anywhere near the limit of what USB provides. You're better off using a mains extension cable and moving the USB power supply closer.

A higher rated power supply might help keep the voltage up

Hi, I have this camera and it is a total ball ache. The short power cable is a joke, I have other indoor cams and they are great. With the outdoor one, I have set it up using three different extension cables and all don't allow the camera to function properly. I have used the plug it came with plus a more powerful plug. I have bought a 3 quid cable, an 8 quid cable and a 15 quid cable.

The issue I get are, it works for a time, ranging between a minute and an hour then it disconnects. You cant use the audio or mic as that must send a surge and causes it to disconnect, it then tries to reset but just stays in a state of disconnect. The audio also sounds like there is crickets, as weird as that sounds.

Maybe I have a faulty unit, I am tempted to try the cable you have recommended as one last try!
