Great idea! All for it -what I can’t understand though is how cruise liners /ships stay out of the firing line in the press when it comes to the environment given the fuel consumption etc etc whilst out on nature’s “Fragile Oceans” not to mention the effort to fill and unload them!

Thanks for posting this Tesco were collecting these for a charity and by the time I collected the tops they changed to another charity. I have quite a few I can send.

Surely a better idea would be to make the bottle and cap out of the same material

Iv also had a little think about this and lush products are simply micro plastics that get washed strait down the drain things like glitter ect. So I guess at first you think they are doing a great thing then you think about it more and they are trying to offset their own waste. It's still good they collect them and I'll still collect and send them. Maybe I should stop thinking about these things so much

Yep I jumped the gun at first and TBH have been telling my wife this for awhile now "its just a waste of money you wash down the plughole" with out actually looking into the company more when I should have. I owe her an apology when she gets in.

Debatable, I guess they are at least collecting them and recycling them. Most councils will just dispose of them and we don't really know where they end up. The postal van is on the road anyway you could argue. I don't know the real answers but you could say that about almost any recycling system. Clothes from clothes banks bottles from bottle banks paper from paper banks are very rarely sorted in this country meaning they travelled long ways around the world before they made any type of difference. I have discussed this with family members before and the only conclusion we came to is every country should be responsible for its own rubbish recycling plants must be in every town and the facilities to make new products should be in this country.
You collect, deal with, recycle and make your own products from recycled materials in your own country. Any excess rubbish that can't be recycled needs to be turned into climafule for cementworks, metalworks, or power stations. I live next to a cement works that uses climafule and the town collects black bin rubbish that can't be recycled and turns it Into climafule. Tests have shown the air quality is miles better than when it just used coal for fule.

Of course it's not confusing to you, you wrote it so you should know what it's supposed to mean. All I wanted to know is if I have to haul my bottle tops into a PO or not. If you're going to go to the trouble of posting stuff you might as well give people clear information about it.

There aren't that many cruise liners in the grand scheme of things. They also ferry a ridiculous amount of people so fuel efficiency is much better than you'd expect when taking that into account.

New ships are becoming LNG-based as well which will improve things even further.

Commercial shipping is a different story though.

Looks like they have ended the FREEPOST scheme but you can still hand in your bottle tops at any of the nine Lush shops.
