During the checkout, you will have the option to add $100 credit for $80. In total, it would be 80 + 1 + 7.55 =$88.55 approx £68 for a 3 years subscription.

It might be cheaper with cashback; however, I had issues before with Quidco. This should work also for existing accounts while Quidco requires a new account.

Note1: if you have an Android device, the APK from their website has an adblocker included. They could not put the same APK on the play store as it is forbiden by Google.

"Please note that, due to Google’s policies, the CyberSec feature will no longer block ads on the NordVPN app downloaded from the Google Play Store. But let’s look at the bright side: it will keep protecting you from malicious websites and other cyber threats. And if you’d rather see less of those intrusive ads, the app version with the ad blocker is still available on our website."

Here are some general information about VPNs that are a little less biased than what Google search results will show you (VPN referrals are a big business and many websites promote whatever is offering the highest affiliate revenue):

Regarding location of VPN providers: privacytools.io/

    Suggested VPN list: privacytools.io/

General VPN advice with lots of data for comparison: thatoneprivacysite.net/

One thing to keep in mind is that your purpose and threat model is essential for using the right VPN service. If you just want to et around geo-blocking and having a slightly better feeling about security, going with some of the big providers such as PIA or Nord is probably alright.

If you are dealing with sensitive data and/or have good reason to worry about security (within the UK or during travels), you might want to look at other factors. For a few, for instance, it matters whether VPN providers use their own hardware in 'trusted' data centres or whether they use VPNs (which, technically, are less secure). Very few use their own barebone servers, only AirVPN and Mullvad coming to mind right now. Again, for most users this should not matter, though. (edited)

The whole eyes program (referring to intelligence sharing agreements) is only a concern if you're doing anything that might break a law (ordering from markets on the dark web for example).Your average law abiding citizen doesn't need to worry about whether GCHQ know what you streaming via a USA Netflix whilst using your VPN... they have more important things to pursue.VPN for your average user helps unlock traffic shaped speeds, geolocation blocking of websites/services and preventing your average PC plod/ISP from logging what websites you do in your spare time.VPN alone for illegal activities just simply isn't enough.... if that's your thing..

This makes it sound like VPNs were solely used for streaming Netflix on computers that you do not use for any other internet activity. Some of us feel uncomfortable that everything you do online is permanently* stored with governments (or corporations, for that matter) and will eventually be used against us - lawfully or not.

*Perhaps not everything is stored from everyone just yet, but if an algorithm ever decided that your two-sentence email comment to your father on Brexit from three years ago was similar to a comment made by someone who was ever screened by police at a demonstration, you're gonna be on that special interest list for the rest of your life. Quite possibly your relatives and children as well. And that's the best case scenario. It's much more likely that pretty limited data gathering (and storage) will identify you as a potential threat. Will your Netflix history combined with your Premier League news reading online activities be sufficient for that? Now? No. In ten years' time (using the data collected today)? Probably. In 20 years' time? Without a doubt.

And before you criticise my metaphorical tinfoil hat: the above will be and is already largely technically possible. The issue to overcome is that the capacities to analyse all of the existing data are not there just yet. This is only a matter of time (again, for governments as well as companies). And what's technically possible will be used: first in intelligence gathering abroad, later on for governing at home.

Will VPNs save you? No. They will limit some of the data gathered on you today, though.

Whatever list you're looking it, it's purely about affiliate revenue. NordVPN might be popular (and for the vast majority of people sufficient), but it's not part of the top end of services.

Am I missing something ? I paid like 30 bucks for 3 years of Windscribe. They have a dedicated US Netflix server . There download speeds can be a bit up and down but , I have found that to be the case for all the VPNS I have used .

This seems expensive to me .

I signed up to these. Works ok with US Netflix but I guess they've had an influx of sign ups as UHD now buffers every second or two on each of the Washington servers, and HD often buffers too, at least on my atom based mini PC stick. Not tried with my Xbox yet, seems too much of a faff.

I used PIA before. It is a good service but less countries than NordVPN. It is also cheaper however it does not have several countries I needed. On a plus side for PIA, a couple of years ago they closed their Russian VPN part because the government demanded access. I think it pretty much depends what you need your VPN for.

Thanks for the info. Ive had Nord for a while now before they became such a mainstream VPN supplier. I'm looking for a new one now. Something about a VPN supplier who pride themselves on being privacy friendly and not logging anything but then creates huge ad campaigns didn't sit right with me. And now this too.

Have you tried messing with the settings? Stuff that should in theory slow …Have you tried messing with the settings? Stuff that should in theory slow it down (TCP instead of UDP, small packets etc) or make no difference (changing port, changing protocol) can often result speedups because it stops a device in the middle messing around, or works around whatever bug is causing you to lose that speed. You obviously won't get actual linespeed as the VPN inherently adds overhead, but that sounds noticeable slower than I'd expect.I found PIA on Virgin to be much faster on TCP than UDP, despite the increase in overhead. YMMV, but having used Nord and PIA there's not much in it speed wise whenever I tested, assuming the best settings for each.

I didn't mess with my networking settings yet, but was fully braced for the overhead. But this was a bit excessive.
My only issue is with Netflix buffering with Nord with USA servers, other than that I'm getting decent enough speeds otherwise.

Good service, but you can usually get it a lot cheaper via the Cashback sites going direct. I signed up before Christmas, can't remember the exact price but it was $2.80 dollars ish a month on a three year deal which worked out £81.30, got 50% cashback (yes FIFTY) through TopCashBack which has already been paid so it's just over £40 total for three years

TCB are still doing 50% cash back and they currently have a code 3ynordvpn giving you 3 years for £84.30 but without using that code, you can get a three year deal for $2.99 a month which works out about £82.00. There's often codes knocking around to get a few cents a month off too to drop it even further.

Speed wise, I'm on a Virgin 350 connection and normally get over 300mbps with it only dropping to around 250 on Nord. I actually have it set up using DD-WRT / OpenVPN on a second router which I just use for any private stuff, most of my traffic goes out unencrypted on another router. (edited)

I used NordVPN prior to moving to PIA and the one problem I had with Nord was the fact that they dont have any load balancing available unless you use their app to connect.. So, for example, if I set my Kodi to connect over VPN I had to pick one of their UK servers (UK1, uk2, uk3, uk4, etc), there wasnt a single entry point (UK) that would route the traffic to the least busy node. So you end up with 50 entry points for UK, whereas PIA only give you 1 entry point.

What exactly is it your getting out of it that's worth £70 a year? Also, you analogy about walking makes zero sense in that context.

Why do I need a VPN:

To access cross countries netflix such as the USA.
To access iPlayer when out of the UK and download content from it for trips.
To have a VPN for my IPTV apps so my browsing history is obscured and the provider doesn't get my real IP address
To download content without my ISP knowing what I am doing
To use on public Wi-Fi so that snoopers cannot access my browsing.

Total cost - £70 but after 42% cashback (which is currently 60% so an even bigger saving) so £1.20 ish a month for that price it's worth it.

My analogy makes sense your using a free vpn when if you paid a little extra you would get extra benefits like OVPN files, more servers, double VPN etc.

I have Netgear Orbi, could i make it work through that?

A simple way to achieve a VPN WiFi hotspot is to plug in an external unit, like a GL.iNet device and setup your VPN provider through their OpenVPN interface. You would plug in the Gl.iNet device into one of your Ethernet ports on the router and setup any devices you want to connect through a VPN to connect to the new Access Point. For e.g. You can name it similar to your current WiFi (SKY2638 and SKY2638-VPN). Works like a charm.

Also, if you want to connect through wires then the units support that's also as it has a LAN/WLAN (In and Out) port so either connect just one device to is through the In port or connect a cheap witch to the In port and enjoy the VPN access through the ports of the Switch.

You can find the units on Amazon.. (edited)

I think Netflix recognise some of the nordvpn IP's, and then block or limit you, whereas other servers are fine, and can watch the US shows.

I've got Nord and it's hit and miss so I should figure out which specific server is best for Netflix. I also had buffering from my nvidia shield device via LAN connection on cable broadband, so that shouldn't really happen for regular HD.
With other VPNs, no buffering problems at all.
