Triple bill of sci-fi action dramas based on the 1970s 'Planet of the Apes' film series.
In 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' (2011) Will Rodman (James Franco) is a genetic engineer working in present-day San Francisco performing scientific tests on apes in his attempt to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. His first test subject is Caesar (Andy Serkis), the prototype of a new breed of ape with human-like intelligence. But when Caesar breaks free a revolution is triggered and an epic war for supremacy breaks out between humankind and the primates of the world.
In 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' (2014) Caesar, now the leader of a growing band of cognisant simians, starts the process towards a truce between the apes and the humans. Many consider the outbreak of war to only be a matter of time however, since the human population has been vastly reduced by a devastating virus and their role as the dominant species on Earth is in question. As the tension increases it may only take a single spark to trigger an explosive war that will pit the humans against the apes in an all-out battle for survival.
Finally, in 'War for the Planet of the Apes' (2017), Caesar finds himself and his kind trapped in a war with the humans led by Colonel McCullogh (Woody Harrelson). Although adamant that apes are not savages, when a large number lose their lives at the hands of the humans, Caesar channels his dark side and vows to get revenge for every ape life lost. Synopsis Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel (Woody Harrelson). But after the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and resolves to avenge his kind, pitting him against the Colonel in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species...and the future of the planet.

However if you don't have them and want them then I would go for it. I really liked them and each one was better than the last a great trilogy of films and the effects are fantastic.

To be fair, it's not that relevant if the source is 2k. Some 2K upscales are better than ones done from a 4K master. And UHD blu-rays aren't just about the pixels. I think that for any 4K blu-ray, the value depends on:

    1) How good the 4K blu ray is in comparison to the normal blu-ray, regardless of source
    2) How good the HDR is, and how much you value that
    3) If it's got Atmos / DTS:X, how good it is and if you value that
    4) If you've already got the blu-rays, and if it's worth the upgrade
    5) How much you enjoy the films themselves. There's some films such as Blade Runner where I'd pay £20 just for a marginal upgrade, because it's one of my favorite films of all time and looks/sounds inherently gorgeous. Whereas other films that I'm not that fussed over, I'd stick with the blu-ray, even if the 4K blu-ray was a great picture/audio quality upgrade. Content is king.

With all respect, to tell people to save their money if they already have the blu-rays is quite simplistic and is making several sweeping assumptions on what people value. (edited)

A lot of grain effect on the first, actually looks better in standard blu ray

I can't comment if there is any enhanced sound track or HDR dolby vision on these disks but informing people that all is not what it seems. I did not make a value judgement you did that. Plus if you actually knew what you were talking about you actually can't add in what is not there so it is actually about the pixels and any perceived difference due to upscaling is in fact due to edge enhancement and picture processing and is often detrimental to directors true intent..

Hi, please keep comments on here friendly, comments like "if you actually knew what you were talking about" is quite aggressive; this is hukd, not Facebook or youtube. I've actually worked in post-production for quite some time, mainly on Avid systems, so I like to think I know a little about this stuff. I never said that the pixel count is completely irrelevant, it's just only somewhat relevant in a teeny way, because at the end of the day the end result is what matters. And a lot of people won't be able to decipher full native 4K, due to their eyesight and/or tv setup and viewing angle (you don't go up close to a tv set and study it, the way you would do with a high-resolution print or piece of fine art). A lot of people will 'top out' somewhere between 2K and 4K (or even lower than that, if you have poor eyesight and/or a poor viewing setup), so that's why a lot of upscales are just fine.

In terms of picture quality, such as edge enhancement, picture processing, DNR, haloing, crushed shadows, blown highlights, too much grain and so much more, this comes under the heading of 'picture quality', which can be great or outright crap regardless of whether it's an upscale. There have been some blu-ray films taken from a 4K master which have been outright atrocious. And some 4K upscales from 2K masters which have been absolutely sublime.

You are correct they won’t work in a DVD player.

These are 4K Ultra HD discs that will only work in a 4K UHD player and that needs to be plugged into a 4K TV.

The picture quality is far superior to a DVD version and in my opinion well worth it but can be a costly hobby until DVDs are phased out. (edited)

Yeah, if you have a 4K TV and player then this is an excellent price for three great films. If some effort has actually gone into the 4K mastering they could be noticeably better than watching the Blu-Rays (and leaving it to your player or TV to upscale) but perhaps not enough to justify upgrading if you already have the Blus.

Personally, I have the first two on Blu-Ray but still need to get War, so I might get this anyway - for £5 each it might be worth it just to upgrade to HDR, because I find that quite effective on my TV.

I have watched the last one in 4k. Thought the picture quality and HDR was very good. Has atmos on the 4k version too if thats your thing.

AVforums give it 9/10 for picture quality and 10/10 for audio.

Now now children, each to their own.
    Not everyone can afford quality.
Kodi is free, yes but it’s also poor quality in comparison (I say tucking into my caviar)

So based on the bad photoshopping of the top of the box am I right to assume that they have removed the Blu Ray discs from the set?
same set on Amazon is £5 more but includes 4K version and normal Blu Ray. Useful for me as I often get banished to the living room where we don’t have a 4K player.

Does any body know if these would be worth play on a standard ps4 slim or if the upscale is useless unless played on 4k ps4 Pro?
