Is there much difference over 1080p blu rays?

Varies from film to film, and depends on your TV. Personally I only really invest in a 4K bluray if it's a film I love and will watch again and has a good transfer, or if it's a decent price. I reckon maybe 1 in 10 Blurays I buy these days are 4K.

Having said that, £10 is a pretty decent price for these films, so worth a look at bluray.com to see which score well for 4K picture.

On most films yes, however it’s the HDR can add more to the picture with some stunning looking colour effects. Not all films look better though, better to research each film you wanna buy to see if it is an improvement on the BD. Best example of this was probably Blade Runner which looks absolutely fantastic in 4K even compared to the BD disc.

I'll second that it's incredible in 4K. 2049 is also stunning on 4K.

Can anyone verify if this deal is in all asda stores ?
Think you will find streaming bitrate is not upto 3K disk rate and you don't get to keep it.
Changing the RRP for 4k disks to £14.99 - £19.99 would boost sales and the uptake of 4k players to people who have just upgrraded tv system to HDR 4K. Zoom-Zavvi-Amazon and now Asda all selling 4k Disks from £9.99.

As far as I know there hasn't been a single major release on UHD Blu-ray that's required a player or TV to get 4K resolution. They're all 2160p.

Film can be scanned in any resolution, so it always moves forward with the technology. Even if a movie was filmed (although it's technically videoed) on a 4K camera, in all likelihood it won't be finished in 4K and even then it's moot as UHDs offer HDR, a wider color gamut and better compression (and in some cases Atmos is exclusive). So whether it's 2K or 4K sourced it doesn't matter.

The question is the price is it worth over the Blu Ray and at full price 25 pounds compared to 15 pounds personally I would say no. Personally I have held off 4k because I think it is going to be a short lived media. With 8k TV's on the market, streaming replacing physical media I think we will see the jump to 8k in the next 4-5 years.

4-5 years? Jeez! You are planning on living long! I agree with your reasoning - its not worth that much more money but some 4k editions are really good and big improvement over BluRay. I would advise people to get their favourite movies now in 4k rather than wait another 5 years for 8k:P And you will struggle to stream 8k in UK anytime soon. The internet here is 3rd world countries level and no point in denying that! Besides, my 4k streams do not look as good as my 4k blu rays:) You do realise that 4k movie streams are compressed? And what do you think will happen to 8k streams? Unless you have already fallen for the Boris' promise to deliver super fast broadband to all households, do not think your streamed content will ever look as good as proper disc version. Although I do admit for most content on streaming platforms that doesn't matter BUT if you value those few good classic movies, then YES, you do want them in best quality possible and that will always be physical media until we really get super duper fast broadband. So not very soon!:P

Depending on your setup, it can make a massive difference. If you have a 4K TV that supports Dolby Vision (and does it properly) you’ll get a lot out of them visually. In addition, if your audio system supports Atmos, you’ll have the added benefit of audio seeming to come from all around and above you.

Yes, 4k blurays with its peak luminance and colour grading are exactly the way the film was meant to be seen.

Just for a contrary opinion, I thought Blade Runner was a really poor 4K transfer. Not only looking decidely ropey (grainy, out of focus) in several places (due to poor source material rather than any 4K fault it has to be said), but I thought the HDR was really overdone. Thought my eyeballs would explode! I actually sold my 4K disc and stuck with the Blu-ray copy. The only time I've done this.

Totally agree with your statement Yas. Very grainy indeed

I;m sure this has been said before, but just a simple point to note, all 4Ks contain a Blu-ray disk as well so you do get 2 copies of each film.(and some also have digital copies). Give one away, sell it, save it until you upgrade in the future - your choice.
At £10 they are sometimes a better purchase than a standard Blu-ray copy.
