This software is amazing. Been using it all night and the amount of detail it can recover from a picture, even a jpg is amazing. I haven't tried a raw file yet, but the results on jpegs are stunning. Thanks OP.

I've not used software like this before. Can you explain please how it …I've not used software like this before. Can you explain please how it 'recovers' detail from a picture? I assumed the detail is there, or it isn't.

i am guessing by detail they mean shadow and highlight details specifically, so obviously its 'there' but if in shadow or bright light isn't visible
in general though i find it loses a large amount of detail on use and am still waiting on someone confirming thats normal or how to fix

Thanks OP, looks good for FREE and i am sure it will come in useful at somepoint, just a shame it can't be used as a plugin with Photoshop CS4. Love the fact that the trial had already expired, as soon as i opened it up and they are straight on with advertising the latest version of it (+ an exclusive US $300 OFF a multi-day (3+ day) Iceland Photo Tours with the purchase) .

Yes, the detail is there and you could do the same in Paint on windows by adjusting the brightness or contrast and playing with the colour settings. However, this analyses the picture and lightens areas where it needs to (eg shadows) and darkens other areas (eg sky to highlight clouds) and applies colour filters to enhance water or foliage etc etc all automatially without you having to manually do it. There are lots of preset filters, all doing slightly different things. But yes, the detail has to be there in the first place, it just makes it much easier to get back.

Thanks though i haven't got a clue how to use it .

Take bracketed exposures of a scene with wide contrast. For example very bright sky, shadowy foreground. You will then have 3 or maybe 5 or 7 images depending on your camera settings. 3 is most usual. Ideally one will be the middle exposure, then you'll have two more - one exposed for the shadows - another exposed for the highlights. Chuck them in this app then go mad for a few hours with the sliders.

Apologies if I've missed something but on the 'Get Deal' page I don't see a section to enter in an email address, just a 'Free download' button which I can install the app from but then it asks for the key and states I'm in a trial mode :/

Its now expired, got the key with my email straight away...

Not liking the results though seems to be adding a lot of noise to the pictures and makes them look very contrasty...

also takes ages to process on my I5 laptop

back to my trusty faststone.org/FSV…htm does enough for me crop/auto adjust image /contrast,highlights etc
