o2 refresh and bad credit

Posted 28th Sep 2019
So i told my friend to do the o2 refresh trick and she did one last month and all was fine and now she tried again but this time maybe cos her credit is not too good she was was asked for a 475 deposit and after 3 months of monthly payments she would get it back, now she can afford this no problem but how does this work with the refresh ? once you cancel the phone contract how easy is it to get your money back ?
If anyone has does this please let me know how you got one.

Cancel the contract after the phone is delivered. Wait for 2-3 days, tell contact customer care and ask them to issue refund for the deposit. It's a smooth process.

I don't know the exact answer, but I would of thought that if it was a deposit and the money isn't needed to pay off a contract monies owed, then I can't see how they could keep hold of it.

So the only sensible answer is that they will refund anything that has been overpaid if the contact is cancelled early.

Once she’s paid the full amount back and it shows as cleared (maybe another 24 hours) she can call back and ask for it to be refunded.

In O2 refresh, essentially you buy the device and SIM on Pay monthly contract. You have option to pay for device fully while taking this contract. Once you get the device and SIM, you call O2 and ask them to cancel the SIM while telling that you had paid fully for the device as you will like to keep the device. They cancel the SIM and contract and you keep the device.

If they asked you to pay deposit while issuing the contract, you will ask for refund of the same after cancelling the SIM.

Question: you take out a refresh contract however you pay for the device in full on order technically should you only be credit checked for a 30 day simo? Or do you still get credit checked for the phone loan even though you paid full for the phone on application?

A credit check is a credit check. Once it's done it's done. It's an instantaneous process.

I still don’t really get what the trick is. Are the phones cheaper as part of this. I’ve currently got until March left on my o2 contract but they’ll let me upgrade now, for free, on an o2 refresh. So, let’s say I upgrade and they cancel my old contract, am i right in thinking that then I have to pay the phone off in full, and cancel the airtime part? If so, what’s the benefit (apart from exiting my current deal early) are the phones cheaper than retail this way? (edited)
