Carrera vengeance e spec. Suntour hesc motor

Hello so I have the above bike and I recently broke my controller that comes with the bike so that’s in the bin. Now Halfords want £170 for a new one so my question is can I buy any controller off eBay to power this wheel or do I have to buy Halfords controller. eBay ones are far cheaper.

Thanks.

go get the old controller out of the bin.

Thats just going to be a waterproof connector - you'll be able to salvage it from the old one.

Erm yeah by bin I mean a bin lorry. Whoops. Surely I can buy another waterproof cable then. I’m crap with this as I’ve used bike kits before but this prebuilt rubbish is annoying. I probs have to just pay Halfords for there controller won’t I :-(

38566906-8ujVI.jpgthat connector is easily replacable if you do it your self,a bit of tinkering and time and around 25 quid should get you going but if your not into diy maybe the cost of replacement from halfords is tempting as maybe a few hours of your own labour is more than the 170 halfords are asking for theirs already built up wired etc etc.
just built this last week done a few hundred miles on it.

Hi thanks for reply. Can this motor be connected to any controller then do you think. You got throttle on yours then. I’ve had 750w motors that go 25mph. It’s great.

your bike is fitted with a 250 watt rear hub bafang electric motor.
so buying the correct controller for your motor off ebay is the way to go but you may come across finding halfords have unique wiring etc etc,I dont know.

It isn’t Bafang this motor it’s suntour hesc. Bafang was the 1st gen motor they used. Then they made this one. I have a controller already and throttle from my old electric bike so in theory do I just need the waterproof wiring then to connect it to this.

yes halfords connector to motor is i think 3 wires and looks unique to me? so buy your own pair of 3 wire waterproof plugs cut off your original to connect your motor etc etc then work out if you have male female connectors for your speed sensor and onboard dash computer and dont worry about the brake sensors i run with out them connected no worries

thought you had the rear hub bafang electric motor but same rules apply to your suntour hesc motor

thats looking over complicated probably why they designed it that way! if a buyer was to come into complications similar to yours, it makes it difficult or expensive to fix, similar to apple designs where parts are unique etc etc.the main reason why i built my own ebike to my own design and I especially designed it so as its easy to maintain and if crashed smashed worn out or whatever parts are priced reasonably etc etc.
If i was in your position i would completely redisign the wiring on the whole bike and start from scratch all connectors completely waterproofed with the suitable controller from say ebay.
