Free Fresh Yeast at Tesco

Not been fresh yeast in my local Tesco for years

The 'prepared bread', technically IS the fresh yeast lol

You get it to last longer by adding flour and water. It's called feeding.

If you cut the dough in half, and put one part to one side, then use the remaining portion for bread or whatever, the part that was put to one side can be fed.

If you add enough flower and water, you can get it back to the original size, and after 12-24 hours it's ready to be split again.

That's what your favourite pizza/bakery place would be doing, and it's worth experimenting with beer production too

Just a few days ago I saw fresh yeast at Morrisons, in the fridge section.

I just got yeast from Tesco's

How do we get them?

I believe you ask at the bread counter I’m not sure if they do anymore but Sainsbury’s used to charge

Thanks...I’ll check next time

A lot of the stores have bakery sections that only cook prepared bread, so no yeast available

It's up to the staff's discretion, so be nice to them
Edit: mind ask what date it expires, they use yeast by the block and can be used the day before it expires while the fresh stuff lays in the back. (edited)
