sorted bySecondhand ones won’t be delivered, will potentially have problems that will have no easy way to resolve... I know what I would prefer, and this is a great price with the cabinet stand
Very hard to see until you have filled it
I really wanted a reef setup but opted for a Cichlid tank as a compromise
I know what you mean, I keep on getting tempted to get another, then my gf reminds me why I got rid of the 3 we used to have.
I didn't mind water changes and filter cleaning, it was the never ending battle against algae which I used to hate.
Much better quality
And for those of you who state that aquarium keeping is hard work...not anymore...buy yourself a Python water change kit...and you'll agree that it's never been easier!!
I have been keeping my eye on 2nd hand ones (been looking for 3 weeks now) but this size is hard to find. they can go from £200-250+(mainly the older models(no LED light)) normally with Filter and some extra but most of the ones i have seen are over 180miles (collection only).
I am still going to hold my breath on a 2nd hand as i am looking for a black cabinet but came across this and thought this was a nice deal. (edited)
Try UltimateReef classifieds. The amount some people spend on saltwater tanks (generally much better build quality than the above, thicker glass, more robust stands to deal with salt creep, optiwhite glass etc.) and then cannot be ars*d with the upkeep a few months later. 2nd hand tanks come up all the time all over the country. A fair few never even see water and come bundled with kit.
Be careful not to get drawn in by the reefkeeping though, can get expensive very quickly .
Oh yeah .... a friend of mine's dad kept marine, several tanks, several reefs. From experience, it only takes one power cut and you have a room full of expensive dead stuff.
I used to keep freshwater, but, like the guy above, got sick of maintenance …. (edited)
This is nonsense. Plenty of excellent used tanks out there.
New tanks can also leak as well if the factory silicone job isn't up to scratch. Just make sure you do a wet test on any tank before you do anything else.
Tried Facebook Marketplace?
Thanks i have been checking 2-3x a day on Facebook marketplace, gumtree, Ebay and preloved
also to note i search for deals to see if anything tempts me.
Note. I am looking to make a turtle tank and plan on making a basking and nesting area on to the top of the tank(with a Ramp in to the tank). so any tank will do that is less then 42" in length (the closer to this size the better) but I love the look Fluval 200l and the size is spot (think it is 40") on to what i need. (edited)
Workload depends what you put in it, I've got a heavily planted 200 litre tank and spend less than an hour a week looking after it. If you had a discus or marine tank it'd take more effort
Nice find man,
I have seen some nice 240L ones but they will not fit for me.
I have seen one 240L tank and stand for £30 issue is no Hood/Lid (inc light) and Filter as he sold them and as you may know hood/lids (inc lights) cost £££.
i only know this as i messaged the guy to check the length. he did say if it does not sell he is scrapping it.
I did miss out on a 200L one like the one above but a older model (none led light) for £100. (i was planning on painting/colouring in the stand) (edited)
I have checked mins still shows £315 for the 200L Tank and Matching Cabinet.
You may just have the tank added (tank only shows with code £279) (edited)
Thanks for the heads up.
I should of said would be Freshwater turtles. so it a bit easyer for me to maintain and do water changed.
Which species of turtle are you planning on keeping? Some are now banned in the UK. Do bear in mind their potential size and the amount of mess. You'll need a good external filter and as large a tank as possible
Thanks for the heads up.
I am not picky on species yet mainly looking for the smallest ones you are allowed.
I would be looking for two that is anything under 9" the smaller the better (5" i think would be ideal) and i know males are small then females but my need to get one of both.
I would also be looking at the Fluval 407 Filter (filters up to 500L). i am still looking in to the finer details if this filter would work or if i should be running 2 filters says 2x Fluval 307(filters up to 330L).
As stated they would have full range of the tank as the basking area will be ontop of the tank. unlike some sets up i have seen where they only use 3/4 of the tank for water and under 1/4 for basking. (edited)
I have this tank though and it looks great.
Have you ever experienced a leaking tank? NEVER buy them used
The guy i was buying it from had 5 tanks and a pond. he was selling up 4 tanks and keeping his smallest one and his pod (so he can move the fish in, in the winter)
I done some water tests to check for leaks as when i arrived the tank was empty. checked the hood and lights all worked. he had cut out some slots in the hood to connect a external filer. this did not bother me as i was going 2 do the same but i may of cut the hole about a inch from the end of the hood rather then at the end of it.
The guy helped me carry it to my car (defo need 2 guys to move the tank). when i got home set it up and done some water test over the next 2 days to check for leaks and all seems to be ok. so at the weekend took my little boy to the pet store to pick up items for the tank, filters, heaters, landscaping/display items. plants. will let the tank run a week before getting any fish. the guy said with the medication for the tank we are using we can get fish in 3 days and they will need water from the tank to do a PH/Water test, they will do for free normally cost £1. to be far i thought we had to let the tank run a month before we can get fish and the guy said yes 1-2months if you dont use any medication.
P.S the filter we got was a Fluval 407 (this does 500L) and was the cheapest price i has seen this filter in shops or online (shop was called Coral Reef and is located in Glasgow).
Before people say this filter is over the top we are looking to run the tank as a fish tank (tropical) as my son want some fish before moving it on to a turtle tank. (edited)
thanks we will be getting a testing kit. just no point getting one till after we get fish. as the shop going to test it for free. before we can even buy any fish and i have to say more shops should do this.
