There are only half a dozen in this collection that I want to read, and these huge collections are very hard to navigate with the Kindle interface. Woe betide you if you lose your place! I'd far rather that it came as 50 separate downloads. I'll have alook to see whther the later ones are available free.

These should all be available at the Project Gutenberg website as free downloads in a range of formats, including Kindle. They're out of copyright. Many are available with and without illustrations. I'd recommend this route rather than downloading a single 11,000 page behemoth

As always - thanks, Boz. As soon as I see your name on a Kindle post I know it's likely to be worth a download.

I'm surprised that people like Philip K Dick are out of copyright?

Edit: Project Gutenberg has several of his works:

    Brilliant. Found it.

I was manually searching from my Kindle, and found the same book but for 99p. I've found the free one further down the list.

Thanks for confirming it's still available. I really aught to have followed the link to see.

Philip K Dick fan here I believe the entries in Project Gutenberg you found are short stories originally published in sci-fi magazines which are now long out of business. Unless the author has a specific clause in their contract about copyright reverting to them (or unless the magazine collected works are bought by another company), I suspect the story is no longer owned by anyone.

All Dick's book-length works are covered by standard copyright law, however, which means they won't be in the public domain in my lifetime
