I've got this cctv system (i bought it w/o a HDD from amazon last year for £114.).

its actually quite good, and for the price you cant really complain too much.
I chose a wired over wireless system for two reasons, it cant be hacked/blocked as easily, and it wont put extra traffic on my existing wireless network. (even with most wireless systems you still have to get power to the camera, so some cables are still required, just not as many or connected back to the main unit.)

Negatives are the menu's and manual are not great (chin'glish) so it takes some time experimenting/learning to understand and find all the options (google & youtube are definitely your friend for this). The cables have a bulky'ish water resistant RJ45 connector cover at the camera end, and you will need to route the wire around all the way from the control box to wherever you place the cameras (so may need to some drill 10mm+ holes or have existing access holes or vents if you place the cameras outside) .
The 'x'POE is proprietary, not compatible with other POE kit if you have that, and wanted to integrate it somehow.
I think you'd definitely want a bigger HDD than 1Tb, esp if you are going to have all 4 cameras set-up, but it will be OK to get you started.

If you want a domestic cctv system that has all the features, and a prepared to put some effort into installing the wires and understanding the interface, THEN, at this price it is great value.

Highly unlikely in daytime. No chance at night. Car moving at say 30mph? Forget reading number plates

You are looking at probably a varifocal cam for the telephoto end and/or likely 5MP (2K) res so zooming is possible without sacrificing image quality too much (edited)

how many days is kind of like asking how long is a piece of string. it is down to how much movement there is (because the video is compressed) and what resolution and frame rate you set the camera's to record at. As rough idea i think you might get 5-7 days recording for all 4 cameras at 24x7 with the default settings. It will loop recordings, by deleting the oldest, when it runs out of space.

as Kramaring mentions you can set it to record only on motion detection (or have some cameras doing that and others recording 24x7, or whatever time frame you chose, eg daytime, nightime hours etc, it is very configurable when you work out all the menus and configuration options, which can take a while esp if you don't have any previous cctv system experience )

i have three cameras recording 24x7 1080p at 12fps, two at the standard (compression) setting, and the third at higher quality (ie less compression) and get about 28days constant recording until it loops on a 4tb HDD.

I dont think you would pick up a moving number plate at 30+ meters, and definitely not at night.

from the phone app you can view the live feed, and also the current days recording (but not previous days). you can also record the stream you are watching, and take still photo's stored onto your phone, (edited)

I'm in no rush to buy however would like to have CCTV fitted with in the next year. Is this worth buying ?

Like others have said, a lot of kit for the money! Have all the ethernet cables from each camera into a POE switch in say the loft then just a single ethernet to the NVR and router for a clean install. (edited)

The system can be setup so that it only records video when motion is deleted. This save a lot of hard disk space and also means finding foot easier.

the phone app only displays the SD (low res) channel by default when on mobile data. on wifi you can select HD. While on the unit itself you can change the recording quality settings for both the channels, on each camera, for resolution and compression and fps either to get better picture, or to save on storage/bandwidth. (this is all standard stuff for cctv)

Yes it's wired. Good piece of kit for the money. You can access it remotely via the xmeye app. Easy enough to setup too.

As someone who owns a 2MP camera setup (not this specific model), I wouldn't recommend getting one personally, as they have a hard time picking up reg numbers on moving cars (just check some of the footage in the reviews). For everything else they do an adequate job.

Thanks Shane the deal is expired,know the link I posted above from eBay is that the same one but refubshed and no hard drive I might get that after all this information seems good enough for me. I was thinking a parked vehicle not moving if that makes any difference just trying figure out if I can recognise a face about that distance away from my property if it is place really high up say 10m from ground level.

Off topic, but has anyone got experience of similar systems by Foscam / Floureon? I'm after a wireless setup as haven't got the access for LAN cables with these types of installs.

Be warned, I bought two systems from the same manufacturer and they both died a week apart just after two years
