EE - BT Sport - Large screen Casting - extra cost

Posted 19th Feb 2020
I'm upgrading my contract and use BT Sport as an add on.

I just spoke to EE chap and said could he throw in the additional cost of putting it on a larger screen - it was only £5 a month.

He said he couldn't but then said something odd - 'I can't change the price but I'm sure you can use the internet, theres ways of working around BT Casting option.'

Now, I don't cast my mobile screen, I have the BT Sport App on my Apple TV - which I thought was the same thing - but now I'm unclear if I even need additional cost - as I am not actually 'casting' I am running the tv app separately altogether.

And what was he getting at when he said you could 'get around' the casting thing - rooting or something else?

Has anyone else got BT Sport via EE - is it work the extra cost, is it even necessary?

I think he was implying there’s a free 3rd party app you can use to cast the channels. Didn’t say which because all calls are recorded. & before you ask, I don’t know which but google is your friend.

I have 3 months free with EE. I used the BT Sport App on my Samsung 43 TV in the bedroom for a perfect feed.

Tonight I was going to try the PS4 / Xbox One App and hook it up to my new 75 Hisense / 65 OLED and see how they do.

They won't work unless they have a sim card as the app detects whether you have a sim card in your device and doesn'tt work if you don't !

Well, that's not entirely true either. I have a Telly Tablet - made by Virgin Media - it's a massive 14 inch thing, not portable in the slightest - but I got it for my camper van instead of a tv.

Anyways, I have installed BT Sport on it and log in my details and over my household wifi, there is no sim in it and my wifi is off 3 network not EE, I can watch exactly the same things I can on my mobile - for example WWE shows are available right away 'on demand' - but the Apple TV app has a delay on it - some of the WWE stuff is like 4 days after its happened.

That suggests that the app doesn't detect a sim in all cases.

I'm finding the BT Sport apps/subscriptions so hard to fathom. I have a BT Mobile Sim only plan and I get a BT Sport app free, it only works on my phone and my PC which is fine as my PC is connected to my TV. Looking at changing to a different mobile plan and various ones say they include BT Sport on mobile but don't say what that actually includes. I want to be able to continue getting it on my PC at least, on my Apple TV would be nice too but it doesn't work on that at the moment which is something else I don't understand!

So as I remember. If you set up casting on your phone and set it to casting your phone screen and then open BT Sport - I believe it will cast whatever is on your phone's screen so it should do so for free.

Let us know if it works.

Hi guys, cheers Jason. Since I posted my above comment I've phoned EE and taken BT Sport with them, £15 a month and watch it on the BT Sports app via my Now TV stick.
I got 3 months free aswell so payments don't kick in till November.
I then had Sky tv phone me up and they offered me Sky Q , Signature package,Sky Sports, HD for £25 a month for 18 months. They also gave me free installation along with £40 credit. It does good to come away from Sky for 6-8 months.

Yes the app on your TV is different, that's basically a different subscription. I was charged a tenner a month for the big screen option, kept it for only a couple of days then cancelled it. I was really disappointed with the picture quality. I think casting is your only option to get it on the big screen. (edited)

Right, so if I just cast BT Sport from my phone - that is free, but the Apple TV App (which actually isn't as good) is what I'm paying the additional fee for - I get it now - thanks.

Yes, I assumed he was implying that - I was asking does anyone know which app he was referring to.

But Strickibhoy was saying that 'casting' costs no additional fee - therefore, I'm confused as to why he was trying to suggest 'getting around it'. (edited)

The dumb part is - the phone app and the Apple TV app are totally different - the phone app gets stuff earlier, Monday night raw that over a week on the Apple app. The extra money you pay isn't for the Apple app, it's so you can cast your phone to the screen.

Actually, I've found that you could just cast the app using Chrome cast whole screen cast - no need for the additional payment.

My understanding is that to use BT sport on Windows all you need is the basic bt sport on mobile which you get included with the mobile deals.

If you're saying I would have to pay more to be able to use the BT sport app on Apple TV then it's just not worth it to me. I'll just look for mobile deals that include BT sport on mobile and continue using the Windows app.

BT Sport app is on Now Tv now & if get free with EE or BT mobile & can upgrade to "large screen" (£10month which aint too bad when consider can watch on two devices simultaineously) Some "essential" EE tariffs come with 3 months inc large screen (not free after obviously) but might be cheaper than direct from BT? I even upgraded to BT Ultimate 4k via EE for an extra £5 (on top of "large screen") which works great on now tv's 4k smartbox. Don't believe what gizmondo stated in BT Sport terms & conditions! =->

I've had BT through my EE pay monthly for a long time and up until very recently if you cast your screen via Google home app first and then started BT sport app you got casting at no extra cost, it was only casting direct from the app that would not work. However they've finally realised that was happening and have changed their app to detect when the device is casting and you now get an error message to say you do not have big screen enabled. I'm sure there are ways around it but I've not looked in to it.

Hi all. Been thinking about getting BT sports through EE again. Had it about 2 years ago when I bought my mobile phone. Back then I would Mirror my phone to my LG TV and it would play through my tv, does this not work anymore? Like somebody mentioned if I tried to cast it with my chrome cast it wouldn't work unless I paid EE £10 but if I mirrored it it worked fine .
    TIA
