I've been with Sky over 20 years.
I'm currently paying £82.50 for their broadband, phone service and Sky signature service with HD and Netflix.
I don't have extras like sport or movies.
My current contract ends in November then it rises to over £100 a month and they aren't prepared to reduce by much either when discussing over the phone.
I just think it's too much, so I've cancelled.
I imagine others have cancelled so what cheaper options have I got to watch documentaries, History programs etc.
I'd have gone with Virgin broadband but they don't supply my area.
Any advice appreciated

Chromecast Dongle (so you can stream content from your phone/computer to your TV screen although the Chromecast has some inbuilt channel content also.
You may need to pay a subscription fee for some of the streaming services.
Get an IPTV sub from AliExpress, install an IPTV app on your Firestick.
with something like Smarters IPTV Pro you get a useable UI (its never going to be Sky or Virgin quality) but good enough for your Docu's
once your cancelation is over try a free trial of discovery+ thats all of the discovery channels,you might also get a disney+ trial, that has national geographic on it. If you have Prime then its moving some shows to IMDB TV which has adverts you might find more documentaries on there. Then there is netflx will have some as well, you can get a cheap sunscription either a share of an account or through Turkey.
You will have plenty of choice and certainly pay less than you are for Sky. There is also a cough cough way of watching shows, if you want to pay for a box, just search on here for it.

If I was living by myself it would be easy but I have 3 kids too that like their TV.

We're in the minority. Also, I like the Sky interface, usability, ease, design etc.
But you're paying too much. Tell them you love it, want to stay but can't afford it. And see what they can do for you
Then you'd need to sit down and spend some time on working out what those services cost vs what you are willing to pay for sky. Until you know that, how are you able to properly negotiate with sky?
You also need to take into account the extra £13.33 p/m into your sky costings, that you are spending on a tv license (which you may not need if you start using streaming services and don't watch live tv).
If you could get everything you watch now for £22, from a variety of streaming services [this is an example number only with no research done] and similar internet supply for £25p/m, then sky would have to essentially bring the cost down to somewhere around £47p/m. However, that doesn't take into account how much value you put in; your time, how accustomed you are to the sky ecosystem, hassle in using different services, time spent for you and the kids 'learning' a new way to watch things.
Yep, given my notice about a week ago. I'm struggling to find any decent alternatives to Sky tbh. I like their GUI and so smooth as well no messing around.

unogs.com/ is a good site to see what's available on netflix. it also tells you which countries NetFlix the show is on (each counties Netflix has different content - some people use VPN's to trick netflix into thinking you are in whichever country you want.)
if you go onto amazon, then amazon video, sometimes when you search for something. it tells you which service you'll find it on (e.g. if might say, netflix, price video, discovery+, disney, etc).
+1 for whoever mentioned curiosity stream (+ nebula) which is only something like $15 PER YEAR.
Discovery+ also has loads on.
IMDB TV has just launched and is free (with adverts).
But, it all depends on if you are happy try something new. Kids pick things up super easily, so unless they have additional needs or can't handle change easily (ASD), then the kids side should be fine. I think there are even separate apps for kids netflix you can get which help.
I've done the same recently, ditched Sky (we weren't actually watching any Sky exclusive content, pretty much anything that we used to watch they have lost to other services and platforms) in favour of Freesat.
Just be aware that with Freesat if you were on Sky Q only the newer 4K Freesat boxes will work with a Sky Q dish unless you have someone change the LNB on the Sky Q dish.

I already have Amazon prime so I get some service through that on my firesticks.
My wife watches a lot of soaps but they're normally on BBC and ITV anyway so she's ok😬😁

use a freesat recorder box, add a discovery+ & Disney/Netflix sub, you could probably add another 8 subs and still be quids in on that sky price

Yes, sky is a much easier option as it has everything I need in one box but I'm looking for options that may not involve having the kids learning new ways to watch.
Freeview box is one option or even Now TV.
Or even Freesat?
The trouble is I've only ever had sky since the 90s so don't know much about anything else...hence my post 😁

Well if I don't, I'm probably still going to stick with them anyway! I don't like the idea of streaming everything as if your broadband plays up, you've basically got no TV!
