Hi, can someone please suggest the best way to transfer my current three number to my new three sim.
The official way is to change the current number to PAYG, this takes 4 weeks! Then transfer it to the new number.
Another way is to transfer the number to another network, then bring it back to three on your new contract. But this is only useful if you have a spare and active sim on another network.
Any other solutions that are quicker & cheaper?
Thanks

sorted by• I got a free lebara sim from before. (Comes in 2 working days).
• Sunday I filled the form in on the Lebara website to transfer partner's number from EE to Lebara. They sent an activation code to the number (no top up required).
• Number successfully transferred over to Lebara on Tuesday.
• Wednesday I requested the PAC from Lebara (PAC to 65075) and filled the form out on EE to port the number back in.
3 days, all done and dusted. (edited)
It cam be confusing but just take each stage at a time without thinking too much about the next day and it'll be fine.
I've done this so many times for family and friends, it's easy.
If you've got a dual sim phone, it's a lot easier I say.
Maybe order the new contract sim a little earlier as there might be a delay in delivery because of Christmas.
Min top up £1.
Vodafone PAYG sim should work straight out of the box no top up required, it did for me when I bought a Vodafone locked phone and had to have an active sim in it for 30 days until they'd unlock it for free, you could make calls to it and dial the voda service numbers ie balance etc.
No minimum top-up. Used Asda the last 3 times. Never cost a penny (edited)
Online. Think they charge in-store for them. Could be wrong though
Any recommendations for the free sim? The ones I've come across require a £10 top up to activate the sim, without activating it's not possible to use the sim.
This doesn't work for same network transfer. (edited)
I see, not sure then try contacting three directly and see what solutions they might offer.
The official way is that they convert your account to PAYG, but they have a minimum 4 weeks gap before they do it. This means you have to pay for the next 4 weeks as well.
Could OP not transfer to another networks PAYG which normally takes 48 hours and then switch to the contract taking another 48 hours?
Yes, this is possible, however to activate a new sim you need to top up, and minimum top up is around £10 on the networks I checked. However, someone above has pointed out Asda mobile who have a much cheaper initial top up, so I'll be looking at that for now.
Did you get the sim online or in store?
Twice used it Asda in last 2 years without top up.
Yes I have done a similar thing in the past but at what point do I need to purchase the new contract sim I want to move to ? Is it before stage one I’m guessing thanks (edited)
Unless you don't mind staying on pay as you go whilst you wait for the new contract sim to arrive..
Ok cheers it’s just I get confused because at one stage you can have three different phone numbers ( current number , temp sim number , number from new contract)
On Vodafone so will port to lebara then back , just ordered lebara free sim then on 16th when 12 months lapses i will order new sim deal from mobiles then fill out port pac code to lebara then move old number back to Vodafone when ready , its a faff but it’s still sadly the best way to get good deals (edited)
