Good enough box for price .. But if you want it to last for years then screw on two small metal hasps at front to keep it closed.. and on the hinge side put a couple of holes in edges and put cable ties on it .. we did this on our second box and it's still going strong 6 years later ....

These are definitely not ones that can be sat on but as someone else has said, there are things you can do to help keep them going. Placing them on a good flat base means the lid will always line up with the base when closed. If you put it on an uneven surface, the lid goes skewed leaving a gap that lets water in. We too added cable ties to the hinges side to stop the hinges popping out and I also added bolts to the front and back in the 4 corners to make sure the side panels don't come away from the rest of it. Looks ok but could paint the bolt heads if needed. These things don't necessarily make the box stronger but have found that it keeps everything all aligned and most importantly watertight.

The base on these is slightly raised and clips in at the inside edges, so be careful putting heavy stuff in that could ping the sides out, also made worse by heavy things leaning on the inside edges, it is what it is and for cushions etc will do the job. (edited)

If your loft is watertight as it should be a wood chest is likely better. Some plastics are more fire resistant than one might think but there is no doubt Emily is made for outdoors use.

Interesting points but I'd like to think I'd be out of the house by the time a fire got that bad. Also, a wooden box is flammable too.

Mine just randomly falls apart. I will look out in the garden and the sofa cushions will be all over. Best to use epoxy when putting together.

Not pretty but I use an old wooden fence post cut to the length of the unit & painted with some similar coloured cuprinol shades & rest that across the front edge of the lid. Helps weigh it down & stop the lid from warping (corners curl up) & rain getting in or wind lifting it.
Could use some pressure treated & painted decking instead.
Go edge to edge to evenly distribute the weight onto the end verticals.

Same here. I’m planning to put it in the conservatory for storage and sit on. Sounds flimsy from the comments I read.

This isn’t for sitting on at all. Read the OP. It is for light storage outside. Hence the price.

I would hate to try and get a box this size into the loft!

You are better off with clear strong plastic boxes with good lids from high quality brands like Whitefurze for much cheaper than this - usually about £9 or so delivered for a c. 90L box if you buy a few at a time.

That is a fantastic idea. I've got a similar one and it bursts open sometimes. I'll add the cable ties this weekend, thanks!

Bought one of these and the quality is shocking. It broke the first day with very little use. Absolutely useless. Keter has a good reputation but this one I cannot get behind. Would not recommend.
