Currys price match

Hi. I’m trying to get Currys to price match a certain website.

I received the following email this morning:

‘Unfortunately, we are unable to do price match with the competitor. This is because the competitor is not offering free delivery, according to UK retailer terms the standard delivery should be free.

As we provide a delivery date before placing the order and give free standard delivery, this offer is not on the same terms.’


Can they refuse the price match for this reason, especially since the competitor offers free next day delivery with a code (albeit for a short while).

That bit about UK retailer terms also sounds made up, but then again I don’t know much about that.

Hope anyone can clarify based on their own experiences or knowledge.

    Of course they can refuse. They aren’t obliged to price match.

    They can refuse for whatever reason they like, just like you are free to buy elsewhere.

    • We'll match against any other UK retailer store or website price including offer-code discounts. We do not match trade prices, prices only available as part of paid for membership/subscription or 3rd party marketplace seller prices.
    • We do not match exclusive discounts e.g. staff/ student/ NHS staff blue light.
    • Our competitor's product must be the same model number as ours.
    • Price match claims on mobile phone handsets can be made post purchase only.
    • Both us and the competitor must have the product in stock and ready for delivery.
    • Where a product is not available online and is in store only, you will need to send a photo showing the model number, there is stock available, the date/time and the price.
    • We reserve the right to refuse a price match where we suspect fraud or unauthorised reseller activity

    It seems that they DO price match if there is a code. (See second line) so this should counter their delivery charge claim

    The first line of the info on their website says that they price match in stock products (excluding delivery charges)

    I suggest that you contact them again and hope that you speak to a different person. You can say that you have checked the criteria on their website and that this shows that they can price match.

    There price match is pants. Around black friday i asked for price match on nano leaf lights to what amazon had.

    They came back saying they do not have the same product for sale & rejected price match.
    I replied back to their email with links to amazon & currys (they were the same items).

    They then approved price match.

    Its hard work getting a currys price match. I have never got a price match at first attempt.

    Got the same email when I tried to price match with appliances direct. I wanted to price match and pick up instore but will just buy direct from appliance direct.

    I would give it another try might depend on the agent I got a refund of £50 yesterday on something I bought on Xmas eve took about 10 minutes

    It was a laptop from Laptopsdirect.

    I’ve gone and purchased it as I was going to get the laptop anyway.

    It’s kind of funny though as I replied back to the email with the free delivery discount code. They then said to redo the request and they’ll review it. At this point, I’m thinking that they’re going to accept it, only for them to then refuse on another basis lol. So instead I went the webchat route after purchasing and what do you know, they accepted it. They’ve said the refund has been approved, but I won’t believe it until I get the confirmation email.

    never believe it lol sometimes they dont put it through or at the wrong amount or refuse it after they say they will price match unless you get it there and then in store of course.

    yeah it is pot luck if you get it

    I'm struggling to find a retailer they will price match (on motherboard). Tried 5 or 6 different retailers and they just come back saying different terms, can't verify company is in UK, returns policy is different etc etc.
    It's a bit of a rubbish price match 'promise'!!

    I've tried: tekshop247, Infinite Computing, CCL, TechNextDay and AWD-IT. All have UK addresses and vat registered.
    I'll keep going (try Box, Novatech, Scan & EBuyer next).

    Would've given up by now but have vouchers to spend 🤪

    it depends who you get instore and also webchat. Shoplive better but it is glitchy and disconnects or not available. You have to complain to get price match from currys i find unless you get lucky. It is blood out of stone not worth hassle hours of work to get price match unless you go insotre and get lucky and have ok store manger/staff. The price match codes get item unavailable online as they dont want to price match but pretend they do! very shady currys. Go elsewhere! Im only trying as they have tesco price match games lol

    i think store mangers have targets/bonus so they dont price match imo is my gut take on it Or they love making customers annoyed.!

    Of course they’re not. They’re price matching because they want your money, rather than you giving it to another company. Not because they legally have to.

    They could have on their website that the moon is made from cheese. Doesn’t make it true or legally binding. (edited)

    When you purchase goods from a reseller you are forming a legally binding contract.

    If they make price promises (as currys do 7 days after the purchase) and then do not honour the terms in that promise that is a breach of the contract formed and effectively would nullify it (i.e. so early on in breach one option would be telling Currys to collect their goods and completing a chargeback)

    What most people will find though is that decline of price promise will not match the exacting terms in the price promise engineered to limit their legal liability (models that have bespoke names with slight tweaks compettiors that do not stock directly and so on)
