Budget external USB-C housing for samsung 980 pro

Posted 12th Apr 2022
hi, im a little confused over key types.
i need an external USB-C housing, to put a Samsung 980 Pro nvme m.2 into, (solely to update its firmware).
amazon would be my buying preference, i no longer import anything.
can anyone advise with a link please?
cheap as chips ideally as it'll be for one solo use

I doubt Samsung firmware updates will work over a USB bridge.

I agree with the above, I've never seen a firmware update work via an enclosure. A lot of official tools won't even let you run tasks like formatting if it's on USB. If you don't have an m.2 nvme capable slot, you can get pci-e to m.2 nvme adapters that should work for it, and they're cheap.

Depends how soon you need it, mine was £3.30 (no heatsink though).

My 980 Pro, has Samsungs heatsink factory attached fortunately.
I went dirt cheap, opted for this, as one reviewer mentioned he had used it for the same purpose, same drive (albeit his appears to be the non heatsink version that he added his own heatsink to):

    I guess I'll find out tomorrow>weekend

Would using a PCIe adapter like that affect GPU performance as it will be using some of the PCIe lanes?

    No idea.
It was used for a few minutes to update firmware for a ps5 internal drive, then removed.
(Too ugly ultimately to be left in my pc on show full time)
