Piece of advice: download the bt sport app on your smart device. Even if it's only for 1 day.

Every champions league I've regretted using YouTube because of how bad it is

My Dad would love to watch this but not interested in connecting to internet and in some ways I agree with him. Put it on freeview all you will have to do is flick a switch (edited)

They broadcast the 2018 final (Liverpool vs Real Madrid) for free in 4K via their youtube channel and they had to switch to downgrade it to standard definition for the 2nd half due to the stability problems they had.
Surprised they still can't figure it out 4 years later.

I still have the BT Sport/google cardboard viewer from when they tried broadcasting in VR in 2017.
BBC tried it with the World Cup in 2018 but nobody seems to want to touch VR for live football these days.

What a joke the champions league tv rights have become with BT sports - now we need to be grateful that the final is free (it’s in their contract it has to be) and zero free to air matches throughout out the season. (edited)

It is BT sport, not BBC so no TV licence is need. Am I correct ??

    No.

You need a TV licence to watch this.

You need to TV licence to watch anything as its being broadcast on traditional formats. This includes TV Player, watching live on ITV Hub etc.

The licencing website is intentionally vague as it doesn't say whether its limited to UK broadcasts or international. I want to watch the Bathurst 12 Hours this weekend, not live anywhere on traditional TV in the UK but is shown on TV in Australia. TV licencing could technically do me for watching it live. (edited)

The other option is to pay £5.99, £6.99 or £7.99 and watch it at a Vue cinema (I'm not sure if others are showing it too)... or if you're with Vodafone you can get 2 £6.99 tickets for £7

Someone previously suggested Windscribe VPN and I've tried it and it works for both BT Sport and Now TV apps. So I'm sorted now. If anyone else is interested in Windscribe, it's only free up to 2gb of data per month so I upgraded to the unlimited plan (£8.49 per month) which I only intend to use for my stay in Japan. There might be free ones with better data allowance but I'm just happy I've found one that works and it's done now. Incidentally I tried Surfshark and it failed for both of the above but it came with a money back guarantee which was easy to sort and cancel via their online chat. NordVPN is my usual VPN which works on neither of the above, I may switch after my current term expires.

There are codes for 20, 40, 50 and 60gb free windscribe each month. A quick Google or look on here as some have been posted. You would need more than 2gb to watch in 4k. ProtonVPN is very good and completely free.

I’m absolutely certain that the previous years they’ve done this it’s always been 30fps. So regardless of 1080p or 4K won’t matter because 30fps is garbage for live sports. I think it might 50fps on the apps though.

47446413-4Rbjf.jpgThe champions League final isn't a protected event according to this. So don't think BT are obligated to show it. They must calculate they will make more money from advertising than from subscribers.

Europa League is a stronger competition!! I say that as a Celtic fan. Rangers and Frankfurt did very well to get there although imo there was a fair slice of luck in it happening!!

There used to 3...European Cup, Uefa Cup and Cup winners cup. The European Cup (now Champs League) was/is always regarded as the hardest to win as it's League champs but now diluted with even up to 4rth teams in some leagues getting entry......joke!! That's another story.

Uefa Cup (now Europa League) was imo the next harder to win as it used to be based on league positions and probably some years not far behind the European in levels of difficulty.

Now for the fun bit!! They scrapped the Cup winners Cup years back and replaced it this year with Europa Conference. The cup winners was widely regarded as the easiest to win IF YOU'RE HONEST. Small teams/minnows could freak a cup final appearance (e.g Gretna in 2006), even win it, and even if they lost in Cup final they could get European entry into this if the cup winners were also league winners. It's a travesty this is deemed a 'deal'. I guess it is technically, just a sad state of affairs. Are they not obliged to show it anyway? Honestly, should be on TV instead of via streaming which has a 30-second delay compared to terrestrial

I don't want them to win it either. My brother is flying out tomorrow, hope he comes back in tears like I did from Seville. But it's a one off game. I would fancy our chances against Frankfurt more than I fancied them against Porto. And we had a team back then that would wipe the floor with our current team and theirs.

But either way. It's some achievement for a 10 year old club

Cold cold cold cold cold, this has always been free on ITV in the past, BT bought the rights and only made it free because they were compelled to do so.

    1. They deserve NO credit whatsoever for making it free - as mentioned, they're only doing it because they have to
    2. This is NOT a deal. The match has always been free. Before BT Sport came and stole the rights, putting the vast majority of games behind a paywall, many European games were free to watch on ITV for decades. Far from being a 'deal', the offering non-paying viewers are provided with now is the bare minimum and nothing compared to what we used to be able to enjoy

STOP POSTING THESE NON DEALS EVERY SINGLE YEAR. If something's normally paid, then that means it's a deal to get it for free. If it's been free for decades, it's not a deal.
  25. 252Scooby_'s avatar
I remember when in the World Cup England games was on the iPlayer in 4K , however there was a delay so you would get notification of a goal before you saw it , so in the end I settled for 1080p in real rime

This isn't BT doing it for the fans, this is a legal requirement when they signed the deal. The finals should be free to air and putting it solely on Youtube is the very least BT could do for the smallest cost.

    Should be on Freeview

Proud of what? A team that went bust and robbed taxpayers of money? Robbed local businesses. Now they have gotten to where the are spending money they don't have through loans. They are lucky they got this far and can now pay back the mounting debt. However half their players are retiring or on loan. Next year they will be back to normal order of being Scotland's shame.
